So I'm sitting at home, studying for my board exam today. I need cake, lol! I look on Grubhub to see what they deliver fast. I end up with a 4 pack of my choice of cupcakes!! Man ohhhh man!!! I have had a lot of cupcakes over the past decade and for a while was on a quest to find the best red velvet cupcake but in all my travels, I have never...never seen a place that had this many cupcake flavors. I mean, it was unreal! Anything you could think of, they had. And, even things that you could not think of, they had. From the traditional red velvet, chocolate on chocolate, chocolate on yellow, strawberry, and coconut to the very interesting such as key lime strawberry, red velvet with German chocolate topping, red velvet strawberry, orange pineapple, blue velvet and key lime, and white chocolate macadamia, Cupcake 50 Etc has you covered. In fact, the owner told me that they have over 100 flavors! I forwent just usual red velvet for something a little different here and I got a blue velvet and a chocolate mint. These cupcakes were really, really great. They were so soft and moist and the cake to icing ratio was perfect. They weren't covered in icing, which I appreciated. While the cupcakes were excellent, they were quite expensive. I guess I'm used to $3.50 or $4 at the most for a cupcake so I was very surprised when one cupcake was $5.35 with tax. There is no better way to celebrate the beginning of the holidays than with with a delicious cupcake from Cupcake Fifty Etc. This was our very first time here on this Saturday afternoon. My first impression walking in was "Oh how pretteee". The decor in itself is a work of art! I settled with the seasonal Red Velvet with nuts and my husband picked the yellow cupcake with chocolate frosting. We also ordered the festive peppermint bark with a candy cane on top cupcake and banana pudding to try. I will say we are samplers. LOL. My husband Rey and I sampled all 4 as soon as we got settled in. All the cupcakes (Red velvet with nuts, yellow cupcake with chocolate frosting and peppermint bark) were all soft and not dense at all! The cupcakes were delicious and the frosting was on point in flavor and texture. The size was huge in my opinion and I was only able to eat a few bites on all 3. Lol. The banana pudding was cold and very fresh! We were looking for the sliced bananas that you typically find in banana pudding but it was still DELICIOUS as this had crunchy crushed vanilla wafers on top. Can't wait to go back after the holidays to try something different. Overall, everything was rich, moist and sweet. Good composition! Overwhelming...the second you step inside. The counter boast rows and rows of sweet goodnessessess of cupcakes. The counter also proudly displays the Bakery awards she's won in the past. Can we talk about freshness and tasty??? So once again Yelp came through with an event so we stepped out to see what all the excitement was about. We walked in and love the way the owner is using her space. Erica went to visit before me, and said she smelled home cooking that went beyond cupcakes. The owner/baker uses her space for events as well as caters. The vast spread of cupcakes and baked goods was so overwhelming I couldn't get just one. My personal recommendations are the super moist blue cheesecake, lemon and the strawberry. If only Cupcake Fifty was closer to St. Johns I would be there at least once a week. I went into Cupcake Fifty and was immediately in awe of all the cupcakes displayed! And then to see that it was event center as well was even better! I was told which cupcakes i could choose from for the Elite event and ended up buying 2 more because I couldn't walk out with just one! I had the triple chocolate which was so amazing, it was rich, the icing was perfect sweetness and texture and it wasn't too overwhelming. The blue velvet with key lime which was full of so much flavor, sweet with a sour kick from the key lime! And the regular blue velvet which was moist and the perfect amount of sweetness! While she was bagging it up, i made some friendly conversation with that owner and she was delightful. My desserts were very heavily portioned and beautifully presented. When I lifted up the lid on the peach cobbler, I got hit with a whiff of cinnamon and peach that was irresistible. I dug my fork in and my tongue was met with the most glorious bite of the best peach cobbler I've ever had. I don't even have words besides "wow!" for this one. We introduced ourselves and vice versa. Then the Owner told a little history about where she started and that she supplies some restaurants and local grocery stores with some of her fixins. Her new and permanent location is near MERRILL and 295. In the same shopping center with Big Lots and Salvation Army. The place is very big and spacious. I was referred by a friend and was excited because I had heard so much about this place. I ordered a cake for my husband's birthday. When I picked it up it looks thrown together but I was in a desperate situation cuz I didn't have time to get one from anywhere else and so I took the cake against my better judgment. My partner and I stopped here on our way out of town for a long weekend. We had been seeing the signs it was reopened but kept missing their open hours (closed Sundays and Mondays). In shelter of heavy rain, we stopped last Thursday. Now we know why it's called cupcake fifty!!! They have 50 plus flavors of gourmet cupcakes, catering, a beautiful eatery, and the owner was there to educate us. This is a black-owned, woman-owned business just opened within a year or so. She needs our love and support to keep her divine cupcakes available for our JAX community. The cupcakes are soooooo moist and delicious! We LOVE the blue velvet - think red velvet but blue with delicious cream cheese frosting and perfect golden crunchy sprinkles. Try the German chocolate red velvet for a flip on the traditional red velvet or German Chocolate Cake. Yum! I loved the maple bacon but my partner likes the bacon more crisp than chewy. I'm a fan! I had heard about this place from my fellow Yelpers, so when I was in the area I had to make a stop. It was a little hard to find on Google Maps, but once I did, I parked and walked in. I was the only customer, but Charlotte greeted me and let me browse the cupcake selection. There were so many choices! The Cookies and Creme stood out to me, so I picked that one. I also ordered a cup of coffee, which Charlotte let me know was the Keurig machine at the end of the counter with a variety of options in the sliding cabinet underneath. I had picked up a crooked cupcake, so Charlotte picked out a right-sided one for me. I brewed my cup of coffee, Donut Shop, and sat down to eat my cupcake. I was so impressed with how moist the cake was and the creaminess of the cupcake. It was one of the best cupcakes I've had! It made me think how good of a wedding cake it would be, so after I finished my cupcake, and I went up and inquired about wedding cakes. Charlotte does make wedding cakes too, so she gave me her card to reach out in the future and she gave me the crooked cupcake I had picked up earlier for free. Wow! These cupcakes are amazing! When you walk in, they have all of the cupcakes lined up, packaged and ready to go. I assume the name is due to the fact that they must have had 50 different flavors (or at least it seemed like a ton!!!) They have gluten free and special flavors for $6 each. Then they have some for $5 and then the basic flavors are $4. Let me tell ya, ain't nothing basic about these cupcakes! I had the triple chocolate and it was divine. My family and I were greeted warmly when we arrived. Charlotte (the owner and baker) was so kind to us and gave us a little bit of background on her baking history and her shop. We tried the sweet potato square, birthday cupcake, blue velvet cupcake, and peach cobbler. Everything was delicious - cupcakes were moist and not too sugary, the sweet potato square had the perfect balance of sweet potato to crust ratio without feeling overwhelming, and the peach cobbler was literally mouth watering. Charlotte told us her blue velvet cupcake and the peach cobbler were both top sellers in her shop and I'm not doubting that for even a second! Those two items alone will make you want to keep coming back. Plenty of parking in the shopping center lot and the bakery shop itself is huge with ample amount of seating for all. Wow they should call these pudding cups! These are unique cupcakes in that they are more like a bread pudding then a traditional cake. They are served in a cup with a spoon because you need that spoon to scoop out the delicious cupcake! I like a moist cupcake but this went beyond moist, to almost underdone ( which is ok by me, I'd rather cakes or cookies be under then over) I really like they have unique flavors too, we tried cotton candy and cookies and cream...the better was the cookies and cream, it had chunks of Oreo cooked in the batter and was very tasty...the cotton candy was a let down because it just tasted like vanilla, we couldn't pick out any cotton candy taste. The frosting was way sweet ( but I'm not a big frosting person anyways) it was easy to just scrape off to get to the yummy cake.
