Cuppa Joe's is a lovely, small town, local coffee shop. The gal behind the counter was incredibly kind and helpful! I told her it was our first time visiting and asked if they had any specialty drinks, and that I liked espresso and not so sweet drinks. She recommended a brown sugar, toasted marshmallow shaken oat milk latte, but not too sweet. I immediately said "yes ma'am". Love the service! The coffee was great, but it's the service from Hannah that really stood out! She's the blue-haired girl you'll probably notice during your visit. She's personable, funny, and incredibly relatable. She has recommendations for what to get or add onto your order and makes you feel welcome. I'm all for the down home, no frills cafe/ice cream parlor. That's what Cuppa Joe Cafe is. We went in on a Friday evening specifically for ice cream and there were two other patrons inside, one woman enjoying ice cream and a man with coffee doing work on his laptop. A quiet and calm atmosphere, everything looked clean, there was some beautiful local art exhibited on the walls, and the young employee greeted us warmly when we stepped up to the ice cream freezer. They sell Blue Bunny, so the flavors are nothing super exotic, but you can count on consistent quality. I got the Orange Cream, which was a delicious flashback to eating creamsicles in the summertime when I was a kid. Our toddler got a half scoop of chocolate, luscious. And my husband got a scoop of cookies and cream which was loaded with cookie and super tasty. The menu for the coffee drinks and breakfast/lunch bites looked really tempting and at good prices, so I think we'll definitely stop by sometime for a coffee and a pastry or something on a weekend. Went a little out of the way in search for coffee and breakfast. Coffee was a hit, they had pumpkin spice in July!!! My kind of place. Tea and hot chocolate for the little ones made a happy pit stop. What made Cuppa Joe absolutely perfect? The perfect cuppa joe served with a smile. This is an unpretentious, small town coffee shop offering counter service. Not sleek and shiny, definitely not upscale. Local art is for sale on the walls. But what they do they do exceptionally well. They use Shenandoah Joe beans - a small batch roaster dedicated to the craft of roasting coffee. So you know this is good coffee. They had some tasty muffins, a few breakfast sandwiches and other bakery goods - even ice cream. Hannah was working the morning we stopped in and her vivacious personality made two out-of-towners feel right at home. Mislabeled as place for brunch/sit down food. This is a coffee shop, with the ability to microwave side food (sandwiches, burritos, etc.)...food is overpriced and basically fast food. Disappointed. Hadn't dropped in on this place near Lake Monticello for some odd reason (usually make coffee at home in the mornings.) When I run out, I usually go out to the convenience store outside the main gate, but looked up Cuppa Joe on Yelp and found out that they sold whole bean coffee (duh). I was pleasantly surprised by the decor, original art and the friendliness of the barista. Loved the French Roast beans I took home to grind. If you're a coffee shop person, either at the lake, or visiting friends there, check it out. You won't be disappointed. read more

Went in this evening for an ice cone. Was not greeted by the guy behind the counter, except for a cold blank stare. He did not offer to help until we asked for the ice cream. One small scoop was $4. I used to think this was the spot to go when owned by the first owner. I am no longer pleased with this place and have given at least 5 chances in the last four to six months. Seems every single time I walk in there it is nothing but bad attitudes of being bothered and not wanting to be there by the employees. The old owner used to frequently be in the store and make everyone feel welcomed. Not the case anymore. Everyone looks miserable. Very disappointing since it's so close to my home.
