My friend wanted to grab a quick lunch here. She heard good things and wanted to give it a go. We walked in and was greeted by a very friendly gentleman who helped us find seats quickly. Our waitress was promptly over grabbing our drinks and taking our food order. My friend went with a salad and I had to give the crab cake sandwich a try. It's unfair though, I'm from Maryland and have high expectations for crab cakes. I haven't found one on the west coast that matches the east coast, but that's another story. I saw a few other options on the menu I will try next time. The crab cake wasn't bad, I wanted it because I knew it would be the perfect size. I wasn't super hungry and didn't want to order something heavy. I liked the decor in the shop, I liked the setup with indoor and outdoor seating. Everyone was super nice. I grew up in down town vista and always wanted to check this place out. My first experience was a few months ago when I ordered a coffee. I was the only one inline for about 15 minutes waiting for someone to notice me while I saw multiple open tables not a single hello or we will be right with you. When I called to order the 2nd time a lady answered, she sounded upset or annoyed. When I placed my order she asked me "is that right, you sure you want that" and I've definitely felt a bit offended since I had repeated myself at least 4 time after I ordered soup. Didn't even give me an estimated pickup time and hung up. I tried to call back but they only picked up the phone and hug up. Not a nice place ! :( read more

Lovely brunch spot with plenty of seating! Vista is a very dog friendly place, so the outdoor tables were always full. But don't count the indoor seating out because it has skylight and pothos galore! Our food came out fresh and tasty. The salmon benedict was devoured quickly and the monte cristo was what the new kids on the block might call a mmmuah-chef's kiss. The cinnamon roll was massive, and similar in texture to an ensaymada, shout out to any pinoys and pinays. We weren't expecting it to be covered in nuts, so let's also shout out to any people with nut allergies. There are adorable shops nearby, too. Just eat your fill, let time slip away, and enjoy the sunny weather. read more

Sooooo good! Two of us had chorizo rancheros - some of the best we've ever had and I'm from New Mexico! Others had omelet, Monterey Cristo breakfast and bacon/eggs with crumb cake. All of us loved our meals. The service was awesome and enjoyed meeting the owner who obviously takes pride in his cafe and instills a great culture among his staff. Highly recommend! I have no idea how this place has as many good reviews as it does. I try to be as objective as I can in my approach to judging a place while accepting some bad for some good but this place has some pretty glaring issues. We went for breakfast with a party of seven. Immediately the staff looked annoyed at the size of our party. They were rude and shrugging about where to put us. They only had small round tables outside, so they decided one table "should" be big enough for us. We asked to put two tables together to which they were annoyed with our request. We ordered our food and sat patiently. The food took a little longer than I expected but for a place that claims to be a home made spot, I don't mind waiting. When the food finally arrives, I couldn't believe my eyes. The presentation was terrible. Only one of us liked the food we ate (Huevos Rancheros). I had chicken fried steak and eggs. I could tell that my steak was straight out of a store bought package and warmed up. The sausage gravy had cut up James Dean sausages in it and the gravy was not good. The potatoes were cut into such large chunks that they weren't cooked throughout. The kids said the burgers were bad with old buns, and the chicken strip looked like they came from burger King kids meal. My sister took 2 bites of her vegetable omlette and decided she couldn't eat it. Lastly my coffee cake was so dry it it had to have been several days old. The check came and I was shocked at the price for 5 adults and 2 kids. They also inserted a 22% tip without the option to change it. Shady. I can't stress enough that this place is not worth your time or money. Walk down two blocks and check out Mom's Cafe. Way better food and way better prices with cheery and friendly people. read more

I came just for the legendary cinnamon roll, and arrived just before closing time. The outside tables were still packed with people, attesting to the popularity of this establishment. The rolls are huge, at least 4"x5", covered in a yummy sticky syrup, and generously festooned with whole and chopped walnuts. The roll does indeed have a very soft crumb, providing a "melt-in-the-mouth" tecture. However, something was off with the pastry part of this roll, and with each bite, I tried to discern what that was. Was the flour old, or a mix of wheat pastry flour and something odd that yielded the fine crumb? was butter not used but shortening instead? was there a dough conditioner or something added to the yeast? I ate about half and brought the rest home, where with the addition of butter, the flavor improved (actually, was masked by the butter). In my humble opinion, it's not worth the drive or the calories. What good is a huge pastry if it's not delicious? Back to the search for the best cinnamon roll in San Diego County. read more

Overall its a cozy cafe. Food arrived fairly quickly and server was courteous despite the language barrier, as my party predominantly spoke Spanish. Atmosphere was calm and quiet. I believe my table was loudest which is unusual. Brownie points. However, (There's always a however) I ordered the country fried steak and a house pancake and syrup that was at an extra charge for whatever reason, I saw nothing special about it. The steak and gravy was underwhelming. Somewhat bland and didn't scream made to order to me, If I were to return I would probably stick with the sandwich menu, because the bacon I must say was delicious. But bacon is bacon Also and this is my biggest pet peeve: The restrooms. Dark and dingy and far from sanitary, a complete polarization from the homey inviting atmosphere of the front of house. Side note: paintings for sale on the wall is a nice touch but poorly placed. Get them outta the bathroom guys! LOL!
