My favorite breakfast/brunch restaurant! I've been here many times over the last 20 or so years. The food is EXCELLENT!!! My favorite is the Greek Omelette (3 eggs, spinach, onion, feta cheese, kalamata olives and sun dried tomatoes). This comes with potatoes or fruit on the side and a huge piece of homemade coffee cake. I usually get the fruit, which is always fresh, and box up the coffee cake to take home. At the risk of "stampeding the herd" I offer up the following observation of a local (Vista) breakfast eatery that I visited this morning for the first time. Yikes, my Huevos Rancheros breakfast offering was fresh, tasty, yummy, delicious, what's another superlative for "down right good"? I understand that the Huevos Rancheros is a southwestern/California breakfast stable but for me, a transplanted New Englander, who has NEVER missed a breakfast in spite of the fact that I've traveled and lived in East Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and South America, the Curbside Cafe "knocked it out of the park" with their Huevos Rancheros. I come here at least once a month, and it has to be one of my favorite breakfast spots in North County. I usually try to support the smaller businesses, since they usually provide good customer service, and they represent the community as a whole. While I usually stick to one or two items on the menu, I had the Italian omelet this weekend. Sounds like an oddball item, and truth be told I would not have normally ordered it but my brother was the brave soul that tempted the fates that morning and we split it. Wow, that plate was amazing. First impressions - really great place. Clean, bright, friendly, busy, roomy. Obviously a locals' favorite. Located in a great part of old town Vista. I love the idea that I can bring little Lilly-pup here and eat outside together. Unfortunately, my choice of chicken fried steak was not so great. The steak, breaded with Italian bread crumbs, was fried a bit too long, and the sausage cream gravy, while good, did not match well with the Italian flavored coating. However, the home fries were excellent. The squaw bread toast was under-buttered and drier than some squaw breads. But I am forgiving, because my husband's huevos rancheros were excellent. Two crispy tortillas, topped with two beautifully done eggs, smothered in a nicely done chunky tomato sauce and cheese, and plated on top of a huge serving of black beans that covered his plate. Really good stuff! The pancakes looked divine. The fruit cup sub for potatoes is beautiful. I think next time, those will be my choice, that or the crab cake benedict. There used to be another page for Curbside Cafe, but it seems to have disappeared. I have been coming here for years, since I was little. The owner, John, is always there keeping an eye on things and helping with the flow on busy mornings. The service is consistently good, with the exception of a couple of huffy waitresses who get stressed when it gets busy, and they practically rush you out the door before you get a chance to ask to try their "best-in-town" cinnamon rolls. Kelli is a sweetheart and always takes care of her tables like they're family. The food is also good. There are lots of classic dishes (eggs benedict, omelettes, scrambles, etc) and some unique spins too. My favorite thing to get is the toasted onion bagel with cream cheese and red onion, with a side of crispy bacon to layer on top. Sounds strange, but don't knock it til you try it! The downside is the bagel deal is about $4.95 but to add bacon is another $3.95.. overpriced for 4 strips of bacon if you ask me. Their hot chai lattes are fantastic. Better than Starbucks or any other coffee location I can name. The perfect blend of sweet and spice; I know it's a pre-made powder but I'd love to get the name! I found this place on Yelp. The survive was excellent. The waitress remembered every thing that was asked. The food was brought out quickly. I really enjoy breakfast here! They have a few vegetarian options including a veggie tofu scramble (very tasty) which is served with two slices of your favorite toast. Thanks to Sean for his review as my fiancee and I might never have come across this place had he not shone light on this "little gem". We just had a fabulous breakfast at this little cafe, and found the staff not just friendly and attentive, but pleasant and non-obnoxious too which is a wonderful change of pace from the average cafe. These are down-to-earth folks who have a clear commitment to providing a great dining experience to their guests. Now let's talk about the food... For starters, they have high quality espresso beverages available, of which we enjoyed a couple of fine cappuccinos. You never know what you're going to get when you order coffee at a cafe, but this is definitely taken the #2 spot on my list of favorite places for cappuccino in North County. The breakfast food is both familiar and creative, easily visible in the selection of Eggs Benedict derivatives. I opted for the interesting Stuffed Croissant, a healthy-sized croissant sliced in half like a sandwich, with scrambled egg, cheddar cheese, tomato, avocado, and onion, served with southern potatoes which were a highlight of favor in and of themselves. Another interesting note is the fruit bowls that come with some dishes. How many times have I seen fruit bowls around the area that are basically honeydew, cantaloupe, strawberry, and maybe pineapple on occasion? Curbside Cafe understands that this is just not diverse enough to stand out, and so in addition to these common fruits they also provide a broad sampling of tastes including papaya, mango, banana, kiwi, and green grapes. Pricing is on the low-moderate scale, where the total came to around $22 for two, but you may find yourself as I did, giving a well above-average tip as a reward for the great service. On a final note, while the place was jam packed with people at 11am on a Saturday, sitting outside was considerably more peaceful than many other cafes. There were some families, couples, and people with their small dogs sitting at their feet. It definitely felt very laid back, casual, but comfortable. I've been before when it was much more crowded but, today was much quieter and I was seated immediately. Spinach omelette, with Swiss and mushrooms was delicious. Nice, crispy hash browns and toast had the best tasting butter ever! My server was very friendly and best of all, super grateful. I typically always leave 20% and only when the service is completely garbage will I ever leave less. My obvious 20% tip came with "Thank you very much, I really appreciate it!" This place is really overpriced. Now I understand why their menu is not posted on a web site. The cinnamon roll is a good value, but the rest is just too much. They don't have any good options for people on a low carb diet unless you want to pay a ridiculous price for a salad. I paid $6.50 for a cup, not a bowl of soup. The waitresses stress level was about 70/30 that being stressed compared to comfortably executing in a packed house. And on a Thursday morning too, yes the food IS that good. My coffee mug wasn't left empty. The food is pretty good. We chose toffee cake instead of toast and it's totally a good choice. Toffee cake is moist and not too sweet. Ham steak is pretty good. Bratwurst tastes like regular breakfast sausage (but still pretty good). Hash brown is good. My husband really likes it (but it's little greasy for me). Fresh fruits as a side is another great choice that I made. Their eggs benedict on crab cakes is one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. There are tables outside (where we mostly eat) and inside. It is a very casual atmosphere, and the street it's on is fairly quiet. The servers are fun, efficient, yet make you feel welcome and at home. We live about 10 minutes away and come here regularly. This morning was my first time at curbside cafe. My husband and I have wanted to try it for a while, we had heard nothing but great things. After eating here myself I understand why, it's a great little cafe. The food was good, I had the huevos rancheros. I liked that it came with black beans and overall it has good flavor. Good food. Great for dogs. They always have ample outside seating. Even though they are very busy a table is usually opening up and we've never had to wait. I don't know which is better, the food or the wait staff but this is a good old fashion coffee shop with coffee shop wait staff that are fun to talk to. Great omelettes. If you want to ruin the diet you are on, then get that big piece of Coffee cake with your breakfast. It is great but I tried it once and I manage now to watch my friend eat it every time.
