By far one of my favorite breakfast places. The crab cake Benedict is to die for. I CRAVE IT. I think about it. And every time when I order it, it satisfies every single time! Over all- this place earns 4 stars. There food is generally amazing and the service is generally friendly and inviting. I have had some experiences though where this was not the case- as in this morning. Our waitress was cold and abrasive. It was a relatively busy Saturday morning- but this particular waitress I've been served by before- and the time, day, and business seem to have no affect on her personality. Furthermore- this morning I ordered the Roast Beef Hash. What I expected was fresh roast beef with potatoes, maybe some peppers and onions. What I got was a pile of bland, seemingly unseasoned potatoes topped not with fresh roast beef, but what seemed like pan-fried deli cold-cuts- also incredibly bland, dry, and generally unpleasant to eat. I've literally Never sent a plate of food back- but today is the closest I've ever come. The dish, to me, was nearly inedible. This all to say I most certainly WILL come back- as their other menu items are delicious. Their cinnamon rolls, for instance, truly live up to the hype. And they've got surprisingly delicious batch brew coffee! I hope this reads not as a petty, entitled review- but as constructive feedback. Many menu items are amazing. Absolutely enjoyed my first experience here. Angela, a new waitress, was very friendly and inviting. Though new, she knew the menu well and gave great recommendations, which we ended up enjoying! Their menu has a wide variety of food selections and the cafe itself is pretty cute and quite unique. There's artwork everywhere, and I'm unsure of if they are currently selling, but it makes the place very inviting. Everything I've eaten at Curbside has been fresh and tasty. Portions are good, and prices are reasonable. I especially love the salmon scramble. Place was cute and clean; service was efficient and friendly. The food was disappointing for the price. I had the veggie omlette with home fries and coffee cake. The omlette was not as good as I make. It was overcooked but there were plenty of veggies in it. The potatoes were tasty, but the chunks are too big. The coffee cake, I saved for home and was so disappointed when I tasted it. It was dry and bland. Only thing good about it was the cinnamon sugar. Well I heard great things about this cafe so I decided to review it to start off I walked in a little lost first time going there and not one of the waiters addressed me after one of them walked out of the back area to helped me out and was the only decent staff there. As I was waiting for my food I could hear 2 of the staff talking about one of their coworkers it is OK to be friendly with your coworkers, but never to forget that you are still in a professional environment... let's skip to the food I thought maybe that was all worth it for the food, I ordered French toast French fries and Biscuits and gravy, it was not worth it. The French toast was dry enough to where I almost chocked, the Biscuits and gravy was unflavored and dry as well, and I thought how could they mess up French fries but they were the worst French fries I've had and some weren't even fully cooked.... My brother and his wife did not know that this place existed. I was flabbergasted. I've been here plenty of times and this is the first time I've done a review. This place fills up fast and when we arrived, it was packed. Luckily John (the owner) said that the wait should not be long as a table was wrapping up. I'm glad we got there when we did as there were 2 other parties that were waiting to get seated. My family ordered different things that are staples in this place. Must haves - coffee cake, cinnamon roll, clam chowder and Eggs Benedict with salmon. Croissants are near and dear to my heart so you can never go wrong with the stuffed croissant. My brother - LJ had the French Toast while his wife ordered the eggs Benedict with chicken. My older brother Richey had an iced latte of some sort and he greatly enjoyed it. I shared half of my eggs Benedict with him as he only ordered a cinnamon roll for lunch. Plus I really wanted most of the cinnamon roll. We used to LLOOOOVEEE this place! It was our go-to on the weekends and everything we ordered was superb. Today, however, was a disaster. I ordered a tofu scramble (which was on their menu) and my boyfriend got the corned beef hash. We waited an oddly long time. When the food arrived, it appeared as if the chefs were unfamiliar with both of these items. Both of our meals looked like the ingredients had just been thrown onto a plate and delivered to us. They were both severely lacking in flavor. Our waitress didn't check in with us or ask how our food was. We'd left our plates alone for quite some time and someone else came by to pick them up. She asked us how the food was and my boyfriend told her that it seemed a little off today, then asked if there were different cooks. The woman said the cooks were the same and that maybe we ate too much last night so we couldn't enjoy the food. We also ordered a potato pancake and it never arrived. Even after the waitress brought the check. When we told her we'd changed our mind, she said "ohhhhhh" because she's forgotten about it. Bummer. We will not be coming back. Thanks, Curbside. I have been going to Curbside Cafe for years and always been really pleased by the staff and the food, which is always really good. This morning was a different story. It is the first time in 6 months I have been out to eat. My daughter and cousin from out of town, went for breakfast and were seated outside after a 10 minute wait. The waitress was super nice and the food great, and we were enjoying the sunshine and visiting with my cousin. Then the owner walked up to our table and asked us to leave and said that we were sitting at his "prime" table (a plastic table in the middle of a side walk with people walking all around us), too long and that his waitress wasn't making any money and there were people waiting (there were only 2 customers waiting and the inside of the restaurant empty). Needless to say I was taken back and embarrassed by his request, more like demand, he was rude and I've never known him to be. I have been a Vista Resident for over 30 years and I really "talked-up" his restaurant to my cousin. I have always supported his various restaurants over the years whether dining or booking large catered dinners. I personally do not think an hour and a half, for 3 people to eat is "too long". It was a crappy ending to a nice "first time out breakfast". I have my leg in a brace and walking with a cane, which makes his behavior even more unbelievable as it was taking time to get myself up, as they were already removing our food! At the risk of "stampeding the herd" I offer up the following observation of a local (Vista) breakfast eatery that I visited this morning for the first time. Yikes, my Huevos Rancheros breakfast offering was fresh, tasty, yummy, delicious, what's another superlative for "down right good"? I understand that the Huevos Rancheros is a southwestern/California breakfast stable but for me, a transplanted New Englander, who has NEVER missed a breakfast in spite of the fact that I've traveled and lived in East Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and South America, the Curbside Cafe "knocked it out of the park" with their Huevos Rancheros. I bet even my favorite TV (PBS) food show hostess, Pati Jinich, would agree that their Huevos Rancheros is very, very yummy! read more

We got there at about 11 for a Sunday morning and it was very busy, took about 20 minutes to get seated and maybe another 20ish minutes to get our food. I opted for the fresh fruit on the side which was very fresh and delicious and some squaw toast. Overall I enjoyed my omelet and my other enjoyed his turkey omelet as well. My favorite is the Greek Omelette (3 eggs, spinach, onion, feta cheese, kalamata olives and sun dried tomatoes). Wow! I had the biscuits and gravy and they were superior! They just had that little something extra. The biscuits were softer then normal which I like and the were cut in half and grilled on one side so they had that crispiness in each bite. They didn't skimp on the gravy, perfect amount to keep everything from drying out. They have great coffee, not super strong but still lots of flavor. There was also fresh parsley in the gravy, to give it that extra color. Poached eggs were a little under done, but just a tad, as long as they aren't hard boiled I will forgive. Overall great place! There counter seating leaves something to be desired. I like the art on the walls they are selling only I wish more of them were local artists and original paintings and not popular re-prints. I would have enjoyed my meal more if the kid behind me hadn't been spelling the same word over and over again in the loudest voice possible and making loud ineligible sounds. However, I cannot blame the establishment for bad parenting. I will be back again and am looking forward to it. read more

Very, very good local breakfast & lunch joint. I honestly don't know why anybody would waste their money at a soulless corporate dive like IHOP when we have high-quality local gems like Curbside Cafe. Their coffees are as legit as any coffee shop. They have a full espresso bar with an impressive array of accompanying speciality drinks. The cinnamon roll is the perfect AM sugar fix to compliment your cup of joe. Not too sweet, not overly-frosted, just perfect. The only reason I can't give Curbside a 5-star review is the corned beef hash. I'm somewhat of a corned beef hash connoisseur (or at least a purveyor), and I wasn't sold on this recipe. The potatoes tasted boiled, and several of the larger dices were actually raw. Also, they use carrots (not necessarily a bad thing - see: Cafe222), however there are as many carrots in the hash as potatoes. And the carrots also tasted boiled. A hash should have a certain crispiness about it, and theirs did not. As much as I wanted to like it, I just wasn't feeling it. But everything else was perfect. The pancakes were deliciously thick and fluffy, and just melted in your mouth. I loved that the combo plate included a slice of their awesome homemade coffee cake. How cool is that!? The over-easy eggs were cooked absolutely perfectly, and the bacon was top-grade quality. So, so good. I really see Curbside Cafe becoming THAT place for my wife and I. You know THAT place... Where you grow old together over good coffee & a hot breakfast. Love it. read more
