Love to go and study here but sometimes it can be loud. The staff is usually nice except the other night when I went. Which was just one time out of the 1000 times i go... I think I went to Cure on a bad night because it was way too loud to study and the workers friends were there and it was very distracting but maybe that my issue. This place is a great location for coffee or tea, I wasn't completely sold on the food, though I've only had one dish and the options for sides are excellent. The Sausage, Egg & Cheese sandwich smelled great, but wasn't that flavorful, greasy for my taste, and very slow. read more

We try come to the cure every Monday and Wednesday. Today after voting we thought we stop in for some breakfast . We order the following : 2 large creme brûlée's one iced one hot and 2 bagel breakfast sandwich's called the morning cure. Our total was 33$- no problem paying for that . We sat down at a table and waited for our food and drink . Iced latte came out first , it was ok . ( not the best we've had but wasn't bad enough not to drink it ) then the hot latte . At first I thought it was terrible because it was not sweet enough so I asked the girl to add more syrup. It didn't help . It was disgusting . As an avid coffee enjoyer it was absolutely trash . Then our breakfast sandwich's arrived . The bagels were hard as a rock . There was no way you could bite into it with out breaking a tooth . I asked for a fork and knife . You couldn't even cut thru the bagel because of how hard it was. I really wanted my coffee so I went up to the counter and asked if she could remake it because it was not good. She said no . They could pour the crappy coffee over ice to I guess make it less crappy - not sure how that would help but whatever . She said that it was because they were a small business and they would be giving away there profit . I understand being a small business trust me I do but when did being a small business get in the way of customer services. I walked back to my table and the girl in there would not stop. I said it was fine and just went back to my phone and she kept on so i told her how it was like mentioned above which I guess hurt her feelings because she just won't stop . So we cleaned up our table and left . To say I am disappointed is probably an understatement . we threw everything away and left. As we were leaving the girl at the counter in the most snarkiest voice said " have a GREAT day" . My stance would be if I am paying for a service or meal i expect it to be done correctly or at least a decent quality to where I am not throwing 98% of it away. It wouldn't have cost them 33$ to replace my drink. But now they have lost my business for good. read more

In the coffee desert that is downtown Norfolk, Cure is an oasis that actually has decent hours. The coffee is good and strong, the vibe and decor is industrial modern, and the staff are pretty friendly. The pastrami sandwich is pretty amazing. Edit: The one thing that is slightly annoying (for which I'm deducting one star) is that they can sometimes take a while to take your order even if you're standing right in front of the register and no one else is around. Sometimes I feel like I'm at a club trying to get the bartender's attention, when there's really no reason for pretension. Hopefully management can address that in the future. read more

I go often since I work nearby. Love the coffee and espresso drinks. Recommend the Mexi Mocha (spicy mocha). Great sandwiches, salads, and avocado toast. Service can be a little slow when they're busy, but that is expected. read more

I have found a new hidden gem in Norfolk. It's in one of those areas where even a 15 year Hampton Roads resident like me always wondered: How the hell do you get over there, is there parking, and is there even anything worth going to? I finally got to this little area thanks to a NOAA research cruise I had to do for my Oceanography class at ODU. It's a Sunday, so parking was easy, but may be VERY hard to find at other times. The prices are great, the atmosphere is great, the staff is great, in short: IT'S GREAT!!! Before the cruise I had a Honey Cinnamon latte (I would have liked more honey, but I was in a hurry) & a toasted bagel w/cream cheese. I finally found a place where adding cream cheese doesn't double the price of the bagel; Einstein's.....I'm looking at you!!!!! It was only 50 cents for a generous schmear. After the cruise I was hoping they'd still be open (a Sunday in VA) & was pleasantly surprised they are open until 8pm. This time I ordered a pot of chamomile (sp?) & hummus. Total of $11 for both! The pita for the hummus was toasted & warm. The tea was relaxing. Give this place a try if you haven't yet. I will definitely be back. read more

Decided to try this place instead of Starbucks during an extended lunch....bad idea. Parking is less than minimal. After a long wait and rude service, I found the food was overpriced and no better than the cooler at 7-11. I mentioned this to some fellow coworkers and they had all come to the same conclusion. My first impression was not great but I've since come to love Cure. Great coffee drinks and chai and iced teas. If only they didn't keep running out of pastries. Cure was recommended by a local in the area. I've been all over the world and visited hundreds of coffeehouses. This one is a keeper. I wish I lived in the area. I'm not sure what is wrong with my fellow yelper here that needs to feel some soul with his coffee and sandwich. I don't agree with another comment from the patron who was left uninspired. Who thinks like that? It's coffee. It's not a Monet. Sorry. I was just put off because it reads like a vendetta and not fact. That's not fair. So anyway, I was told this place was off the street which I like and the cobblestone street was cool. I was told Cure offered a great pastrami sandwich and good coffee. I saw lots of pastrami sandwiches going out. I was stoked to see that I could enjoy a nice cold beer as well. I was greated by two pretty girls behind the bar and treated well. I ordered a double shot of espresso and found it of good quality. Had a nice sweetness and was not bitter. I too was uninspired because it's just coffee but it was tasty all the same. I was checking out the beer selection and the man next to me noticed I was trying to figure out the spelling of one of the beers. He told me the name and offered a sample. That does not happen much these days. He explained to me the history of this particular beer and offered some suggestions of other places to enjoy good beer. Turned out to be the part owner Mike. Good guy. Treated me very well. Lots of hospitality at this place. Even the other patrons were well mannered and friendly. Had some good conversation. This place is adorable! I've been here several times including for their Galentines Day event they held earlier in the year. The space is bright and friendly and is in a really cozy location. They have even recently expanded and added much needed extra seating, which is still sometimes in high demand at certain parts of the day. They have some pretty unique flavors like the lavender mocha, which is worth a try. I recently tried their pumpkin pie latte which tasted amazing, but I personally need to order decaf next time. The food selection is equally amazing, their sandwiches are great and the vegan berry scone I tried on my last visit was really enjoyable. The only thing is that some of their drinks can be overly sweet, and I enjoy sweet things. It could be that someone is a little more heavy handed than others but it can make finishing what would be a perfect drink, hard to do. This is a great hangout spot with delicious drinks and can be nice to do homework on a quieter day. read more

I think this place is great. I think the earlier reviews might have been spot on because this place has only been around for a year - so it was in their beginning during that time. Since then, this place is really making a good name for itself. It's got a great beer selection - as well as a nice selection of Virginia beers. They smoke their meat (chicken, bbq, pastrami) in house and it's really good. The drink selections are nice and the baristas (who are also really sweet people) are always willing to throw out a suggestion of trying a different little something in your latte. The owners are usually around at night and visible, they will come out and talk to you. There aren't a ton of tables, but there is a decent amount of space and considering how quick the service there is during lunch and dinner, you probably won't have to wait long to grab a seat. Overall, this place is really good. I'd like to see some more decor items in there as it does seem a bit lacking on that compared to other shops around - but it's clean, simple and has great food/drinks/baristas/owners. -- Also, best chai tea latte around! read more

I came here during a brief trip to Norfolk for work. I came looking for good espresso pulled by someone who knows what they're doing and I found it. They were using Counter Culture beans, I got a double shot and the Smoked Chicken Salad sandwich. The sandwich was tasty and the espresso was deliciously balanced. I enjoyed it so much that I got a cortado to-go after eating. It was also very good. My drinks were made by different people, and they were both friendly and knew what they were doing. While I'm sure the specialty drinks are great, the espresso was very solid and you can't call yourself a coffee shop without that. The neighborhood is really nice with lots of character and old buildings. If I had the time, I would definitely be back. Highly recommended. read more

Where else can you walk to in a snow storm and get a shot of whiskey at a coffee shop? Joe has been a familiar face here since my day one visit and is helpful to chat about the area. The pastries are great and local. People are always working away on laptops and studying but it maybe gets livlier later at night. Huge house-smoked chicken salad croissant and house-smoked pastrami sandwich - both delicious. A friend swears by the grilled cheese. The potato salad and coleslaw are fine, not exceptional. Real sodas, sweetened with cane sugar. A small complaint on one visit was immediately satisfied. read more

I love this coffee/bar/sandwich spot right in the thick of Freemason. My favorite is their Turkey Romesco sandwich. I had never had romesco before trying this sandwich. Its a little red pepper spice and a lot of flavor, add to that, avocado and a generous portion of turkey and field greens. Its awesome. Really. I also enjoy going there for breakfast for their avocado toast. Its simple. Buts its oh so good. They have a very respectable beer offering. The drafts aren't always the coldest, but I love their selection. I have yet to come at dinner time to catch their dinner specials or cheese plate- but i'm sure they won't disappoint! read more

Stopped by Cure when picking my son up from Norfolk. We don't have a Coffeehouse in Emporia, VA. We had a Starbucks for a little while, but it closed down in a few months. We just stopped in for a Cappuccino and it was very tasty. Loved the cobblestone street and I thought the atmosphere in the coffeehouse for a Saturday afternoon was very nice. The service was good, the beverage was good, and the place had a cozy feel about it. We did not stop by for a meal, but the owner offered me a taste of the pastrami and it was very tasty. I think it's definitely worth your time to give them a try! I think they will be a big success when the word gets around! read more

The pastrami is amazing! Coffee is very good and they even off drip coffee which you don't see much, if anywhere, in this area. They have acoustic mic night which is very fun. They have a local baker who makes all their sweets, which are delicious. This place is definately meeting a need in the area and they are really coming into their own! read more
