Nice ambiance, but my liege waffle was very burnt :(. I ordered a miso caramel latte and a piece waffle. The latte was decent but the waffle was pretty burnt on the outside, I could not finish it.

The service at this café is exceptionally kind, with the staff providing helpful recommendations and input throughout our visit. However, they do chat a lot, which can be a bit distracting as their voices carry. Nevertheless, this cute and quiet café provides an ideal ambiance for getting some quick work done! Alex and I ordered the Taza Mocha and the Cappuccino. Overall, both drinks could've been made hotter. They were both warm and got cold really quickly. There was a subtle touch of mocha, sourced from a local shop, which gave it a unique character. It resembled more of a plain latte due to its light flavoring. Nonetheless, the grainy texture added a natural feel that I appreciated. Personally, I quite enjoyed the mocha, but it's worth mentioning that I tend to prefer lighter, less intense flavors in my mocha drinks. For those who enjoy strong, bold mochas, this might not be the ideal choice. However, if you're like me and prefer something lighter with just a hint of mocha flavor without being overly sweet, then this drink is the perfect combination. The Cappuccino was okay. It didn't stand out. I wouldn't get it again. We also ordered the leige waffle. It was very flavorful but not too sweet - I kept craving more. As leige waffles typically aren't fluffy, it met my expectations perfectly. Although, I would have preferred it to be crispier, but the texture and density within the interior of the waffle was spot-on. I'm not sure if I'd visit again, but I definitely think it's worth the try!

    Tahini chocolate waffle

Yummy waffle, so warm and chewy with light crispy crunch on outside. The chocolate was so gooey and liquid. You can definitely taste the tahini flavor and it wasn't too sweet at all. Perfect snack! The inside was pretty small and any party bigger than 2 would likely have trouble finding a spot inside. The servers were really friendly and nice though! Service was also decently quick.

Came here on a Tuesday afternoon and the space was relatively full for midday - a lot of patrons working or just chatting with others. The ambiance left it feeling very friendly and cozy which was overall nice and not too loud. The staff was pretty friendly and quick with getting our orders ready. Two of us shared a waffle and it was a good snack - pretty sweet and crispy outside with a soft inside. It was definitely a nice way to wrap up lunch as we came here after we finished eating! Overall, I found Curio to be a nice, quaint spot. I wouldn't mind trying some of their other menu items such as drinks in the future if I were ever to come back.

A good capp with a quality fern, even with almond milk! / Dec. 2022
    Emily L.

I've been on a mini Boston coffee pilgrimage this fall, finally visiting shops that I've been hearing about for ages. Curio in East Cambridge was my most recent stop, and a very worthy destination it was. I had read that it gets pretty crowded, but I was lucky enough to snag one of the few tables in this beautiful little shop with a cool antique tin ceiling. They had steady business on a weekday mid-morning, but it didn't feel crowded. There were quite a few laptops, but a discrete sign reminded folks that weekends are laptop free. I got a cappuccino with almond milk. (They also have oat milk as another vegan option.) It was smooth and aromatic, exactly what a capp should be. They use Broadsheet and Counter Culture beans. I asked the barista if they had decaf (they don't), but I hope one day they will. A friend told me their liege waffles are legit and delicious. If I weren't gluten free, I would have jumped at the chance. I hope to come back with the Tall Man so we can compare notes!

To be fair, I think I would have enjoyed one of their other waffle options a lot more, and I also did not get a chance to try the coffee which I hear is great as well, but I was not a huge fan of the everything waffle. Personally, I didn't think the flavors worked well with each other, or maybe there just wasn't enough flavor overall. However, the baristas were friendly and it's a nice place to work if you're lucky enough to get a seat!

    Vanilla bean latte

The waffle was delicious and I ordered the vanilla bean latte! Such a light yet tasty flavor. Not too sweet and it pairs so well with the waffle. I loved the decor of this place and the baristas were so friendly! Such a great place to just journal, meet people and get some alone time. Definitely recommend this place and wishing them continuous success

There's something special to be said about a cafe you don't have to wear headphones at. The music is as carefully curated as the drinks themselves, but the sounds of Curio Coffee don't stop there. On weekdays, there's a soft clicking of keyboards to accompany the underground beats and well ground beans. The extremely receptive and quick service is impressive considering the volume of customers they get. Don't be deceived though--no matter how busy the baristas get quality is never sacrificed. The sidebar is always well stocked, with the additional amenity of self-serve water (yay hydration!). Curio Coffee is a different story on the weekends. As per store policy, they enforce a "no computers" rule Saturday/Sunday. There's an authentic sense of community at Curio Coffee. There's limited seating, but people cycle in and out. With patience, a spot will open up in under 10 minutes. (Plus their waffles are AMAZING, somehow layered and buttery? I have no clue how they do it)

    Liege waffles and chai latte

THE LIEGE WAFFLES are enough for you to come to Curio to try. So perfect, warm, with the pearl sugar on top!! If I was in the area I'd be grabbing one every morning with a coffee. Really small, yet cozy with outside seating! I wasn't a big fan of the chai latte it was a little watered down so I can't speak for the coffee.

I'm always weary of these highly raved coffee shops, but Curio Coffee did not disappoint at all. Seems to be a local favorite in the Cambridge area. Parking is sparse, but there is some paid 2 hour street parking. I got the oat milk latte with vanilla bean syrup, and the leige waffle. The waffle was doughy, crispy on the outside and quite filling for a morning treat. The latte was amazing and the slight touch of the vanilla syrup added a subtle sweetness. The strength of the coffee here was also to my liking, more of a medium / dark roast. I'll be back here soon enough!

    Simple Latte
    Mark N.

I was walking around Cambridge to visit MIT and ran across this coffee shop near my hotel. It's a small, quaint spot. I ordered a simple latte. I could taste the espresso more than the milk, which is how I like my lattes. Two thumbs up. It was definitely a dark roast. For a small shop, it was completely full of locals (I think there locals). The barista was friendly although she called me Matt when it was time to pick up my drink instead of Mark. lol. This is a good alternative to Starbucks when you want support small businesses.

I don't know why it's so hard to find a cafe au lait in the Boston area but Curio has it! And it happens to be delicious. They also have liege waffles, which I was dying to try. As someone who's spent a considerable amount of time in Belgium, these waffles hit the spot. I love the thick, aromatic batter and the hidden sugar gems. I will most definitely be back

There were very few redeeming aspects to the meal, and we left feeling both disrespected and unsatisfied as customers. The issues started right away. We ordered drinks--including a pear mocktail--but were brought the wrong ones, and then they attempted to charge us for those incorrect drinks. In hindsight, the cocktail mix-up should have been a warning of what was to come. The pear mocktail itself was also quite bad. The service felt chaotic throughout the night. We asked multiple times for additional servings of steak and fries, but were largely ignored. Meanwhile, nearby large tables were repeatedly served, cleared out entire trays, and still received more attention from staff. For an all-you-can-eat steak frites offering, we each received only one serving despite several requests. As for the food itself, it did not make up for the service. The steak was just okay--some pieces were chewy and overly fatty, though acceptable if refills had actually been provided. The fries, however, were terrible. Our first serving was so hard it was nearly inedible, and the only refill we received was just as bad. I also ordered the spinach risotto, which was slightly better than the steak, but it was so salty I couldn't finish it. Overall, this was a frustrating and disappointing experience. I would not recommend this restaurant and will not be returning.

We walked into a warm, energetic space with dim lighting, an open dining room, and a constant buzz that makes it a great choice for a night out with friends or a date. The restaurant has a vibrant, social energy that encourages sharing and exploration, and the open layout adds to the sense of activity without feeling chaotic. Rather than ordering individual entrées, the experience is centered around sharing a variety of dishes, making each visit feel a little different depending on what you choose. The tapas are the highlight of the menu, with plenty of options that encourage trying a little bit of everything. The bacon-wrapped dates are one of the signature dishes, balancing sweet and savory flavors, while the patatas bravas, croquettes, and charcuterie boards are reliable choices to start the meal. If you are looking for something more substantial, the seafood paella and squid ink pasta stand out as excellent main dishes, offering rich flavors and generous portions that are easy to split between two or more people. The olive oil cake is also worth saving room for if you want to end the meal with dessert, and the overall progression of the meal works well with the tapas format. The drink menu is just as impressive as the food. Wine is the main focus, with an extensive list featuring Spanish and international selections, but the sangria and cocktails are equally popular. It is the kind of place where you can easily spend a couple of hours sharing plates while working your way through a few different drinks, and the beverage program is thoughtfully curated to match the style of the food. Service is one of the restaurant's strongest points. The staff are knowledgeable about both the menu and wine list, and dishes arrive steadily throughout the meal instead of all at once, creating a relaxed dining pace. The pacing allowed us to enjoy each dish without feeling rushed, and the team checked in at the right moments without hovering. The restaurant is consistently busy, especially on weekends, so reservations are highly recommended. Even with a reservation, there can occasionally be a short wait, and the lively atmosphere means the dining room can get quite loud during peak hours. The energy of the room is part of what makes the experience work, but it is worth keeping in mind if you are looking for a quieter dinner. Barcelona Wine Bar is one of the best places in Boston for Spanish-inspired tapas and wine. The combination of flavorful shareable dishes, a well-curated drink menu, attentive service, and vibrant atmosphere makes it an easy choice for group dinners, celebrations, or date nights. It offers a meal that feels both communal and polished, with a setting that encourages slowing down and enjoying the evening. Just be prepared for the energetic environment and plan ahead if you are visiting during the busiest times.
