Solid ice cream. This was the second time I've had Melt, first time was at a different location (both in Texas). Since this was my 3rd time in Dallas-Fort Worth and I still haven't been to the Stockyards, my sister and her hubs decided they had to take me to experience it at least once. It was a pretty warm day so, obvi, that called for ice cream!! I can't remember what they ordered but I got the Cookie Butter ice cream on the Waffle cone. It was between that or the (flavor option at the time-- week before Halloween) Monster Cookie Mash, a mint-cookie flavor basically. I was able to sample both and it was a slightly difficult decision but ultimately, mint lost this round. The Cookie Butter hit the spot! It's a cute little shop, narrow from what I remember... I don't think there was anywhere to sit? I was too focused on the ice cream choices and we took it to go. They did have cute merch there that I was almost tempted to get... cute colors. There was one employee working I think, not sure if there was a back room. She was nice and helpful with the samples. We came here for dessert to wash away the worst taste in our mouths (dinner at Joe T. Garcia). It's close to the stockyards and Billy Bob's, which was our next destination. This is a really small storefront with barely enough room to order and zero places to sit. There is ONE bench outside, which was already occupied, so just be aware that you'll have to relocate across the street or elsewhere to enjoy your ice cream. Our flavors were hit or miss. The cup of Texas (essentially a light coffee) was wonderful and creamy, but their special flavor--pumpkin tiramisu--was awful. It was essentially just massive chunks of cake with a bit of ice cream in between, and that ice cream was hard as a rock. Like, there's a good idea there, but execution was a disaster. We did like the cookie explosion and rocky road, and our daughter was satisfied with her chocolate chocolate. Service was middling, and considering the cost and lack of seating availability, we're landing on 3 stars. Maybe at some point, we'll try another Melt location that is better, but for now, we're unimpressed. read more

We always get ice cream on a trip. That's our way of ending our day/trip on a sweet note. I looked up ice cream shops in stockyard and MELT ice cream popped up at the very front. Then I walked out of a chain burger store and noticed, hey, it's right across the street and people are eating ice cream in this 50 something degree weather, this must be good. I smiled at a mom walking out of the shop with her kids, and asked her if the ice cream is good. She gave me a thumbs up and said it's worth it. When we walked in the store it smelled amazing, I felt like walking into a bakery. I wanted to try out fun flavors but my kids insisted on what they know best- vanilla bean and strawberry. As a family we discuss, negotiate, and compromise. So we ordered vanilla bean and strawberry. Since we're sharing the ice cream and cone, I told myself it's okay to order 2 scoops. Vanilla on top, strawberry below, in a vanilla cone. But oh boy it was gigantic and it took the 3 of us a good 15 minutes to finish. The vanilla was surprisingly sweeter than the strawberry but I really appreciate MELT not adding too much sugar and using fresh ingredients. We can really taste the difference. We will come back when we're in the stockyard. Hopefully, the kids will at least let me try chocolate then. read more

Stopping in at Melt Ice Cream is a "needed" guilty pleasure on a somewhat warm day in the Fort Worth Stockyards. Oh my gosh, what incredible creamy ice cream. My wife and I both were so happy we both got one scoop instead of two since their ice cream was SO rich. My wife decided on Strawberry, and I opted for the Cookie Crunch. Since it was a bit warm on the day we stopped in, we had to eat the ice cream quickly. I have a beard and boy did I make a mess. Ha ha ha, but it was worth it. The place is tiny. Standing room only and probably only enough for 4-6 people to stand in line. there were two young workers behind the counter. They were pretty awkward and funny. The menu was straightforward and they have some options like affagatos and cones. I got a single scoop in a cup. This is what happens when you get old. You get ice cream in a cup. Anyway. The ice cream was kind of melty, which is fine with me. It tasted good and we ate outside on one of the benches across the street. There was some traffic drama that was happening so that was fun.
