Great selection of gently used duds ranging from $5 to hundreds of dollars. Great variety of style and sizes, though all for the ladies. Very friendly staff that placed our selections in the dressing rooms while we browsed. I walked out with a pair of black pointy heels and a black shrug. Probably could've spent hundreds in there, but that wouldn't have been prudent. Glad to have dragged my friends in for a browse. Will definitely stop back if I return to Alexandria. read more

I consign clothing here frequently and find it to be the easiest, friendliest, and most honest consignment experience I've had here in the D.C. area. My boyfriend jokes that my investment strategy is 'buy high, sell low, keep the profits' --- but as someone who is a bit of a clothes, shoes, and purse horse, I'd much rather get something for an item that otherwise would just go to waste in my closet or to a clothing donation bin. I wouldn't go here with one pricey item expecting to make a ton back: as I expect customers of Current are looking for a deal. That's just how consignment works: you get what people are willing to pay for whatever item you bring in. I appreciate being able to print out my consignment sheet, drop off a bag or two of clothing, and checking back in a few months later to see what (if any) money I've made. And while it may not be for everyone: I appreciate that Current takes care of donating anything that doesn't sell or that they don't end up putting on the floor. That being said, I view consignment as a nice surprise in terms of money, and as a convenient way to pare down my overstuffed closet--if I wanted to maximize the possible profit I could get off an item, I'd take the time to go on EBay or another online re-seller. read more

This store has both new and consignment stuff. To my surprise, I found the new stuff quite affordable and the consignment stuff overpriced! They carried lots of cute lines in the front section of the store, which had all their new stuff and which looked to all be under $100. The consignment stuff made up the second 2/3 or so of the store and had a lot of nice stuff, mostly mid-range lines like J. Crew and Ann Taylor, with a surprising amount of Tory Burch. I just found the prices on the consignment stuff too high to really take seriously - if there had been something I truly loved I'd have sprung for it but for mere like, I wasn't biting. That said, I did end up buying a new dress! So it was a good experience overall. I'd give this store a browse every couple weeks to look for true finds, because it has a large selection and definitely could reward frequent searching. read more

Boutique or consignment or both? Both. Good finds here without having to peruse through 30 crappy moo moos to find 1 good blouse. Though more expensive than some other consignment shops, the selection is clearly chosen well. All the clothing was in very good shape with pretty decent and fairly consistent brands - I was surprised by the scope that ranges from names I can't afford to look at to some surprisingly inexpensive get up (Xhilaration from Target next to Tahari?). It works for me. I found some fabulous items. The staff was very friendly and the store wasn't crowded. I enjoyed taking my time sifting through the front and back of the store. There was a bit of a wait for the changing rooms, which always a bummer, but overall it was a good experience. read more

Great little shop in the middle of Old Town. Whenever I need a need just 1 need piece to complete an outfit for an occassion, I always check here for first - whether it's a bag or earrings or a necklace. I can go in, describe what I plan on wearing to a sales girl and they're instantly able to pick out exactly what I need. They're always nice and friendly. I've never used the consignment part of this business, but a friend of mine didn't have much luck with it (she went in with 3 bags of clothing and they didn't accept anything). But again, I just use it as a quick stop to pick up something simple - not a full shopping experience. And yes, they ARE a tad pricey. (Some stuff is way over priced). Couldn't be more disappointed in this store. While they were very upfront about their "policies" and that once you consign your items, if they aren't sold in a certain amount of time, they are the property of the store and you forfeit your right to return or even to compensation. I protested and said what incentive does that give the store to sell the items? It actually incentivized a scam type environment to hide items until past their "deadline" then put them out for sale and the store keeps all the profit..... while the staff said "no, no, no" they never do that... my high end items totaling over $2000 were marked rather low, and have yet to be sold in three months, therefore losing any and all profit. Now you might think, oh your items were probably old or not desired.... they were Valentino rockstud sandals, a new fendi purse, a two year old Gucci evening bag worn twice and Gucci sneakers... how on earth could those items not sell!!??? It is clear this store is participating in some type of deceitful scheme to make 100 percent profit. Incredibly disappointing and terrible experience... didn't make a dime for my expensive items. Never going back to this store. Beware, be ready to treat your items like a donation.... cause that's what it really is. read more

I have so many things from Current Boutique, it's ridiculous. A lot of times consignment stores have either crap or designer stuff that is way too pricey. Current has a nice mix of affordable and high end items. I actually have found the staff to always be pleasant and helpful, without being too pushy. It's definitely not a cheap store, but you can find a bargain there. I have a pair of super cute kensie wedges that I always get complimented on that I got there for about $20. There are several great thrift shops in the area too, if you're looking to spend a little less. read more

The employees were very nice, however, the Love Moschino bag I bought that was in good shape when I bought it at the store literally fell apart within days (i wore it very lightly and for a short amount of time). Within days, the casing of the bag started falling apart and the leather from the straps came off on my shoulders. Even though the bag showed SLIGHT signs of wear when I bought it, it looked very wearable when it was bought, and within 3 days it was mangled. And I do not take my bags into bad conditions, I merely wore it to the store and to dinner once, and treated it delicately. I had suspicions and took it to a friend who authenticates bags, where I was told that the bag was not authentic. I did not even know fake Love Moschino was a thing. I am aware that the store supposedly authenticates in store, but I found it very off that the bag started to disintegrate suddenly after a couple of LIGHT wears so I had to check. I was scammed. I don't know what to do. The bag was 55 which wasn't that expensive, but the store's no return policy makes it even worse because I feel trapped and 55 dollars is a lot of money to me. read more

Customer service has always been good and I have had nice conversations with employees while waiting in the store. Never consign at Current Boutique. I wish I could give 0 stars. I have never written a Yelp review before. I have never received service bad enough to justify a review. But Current Boutique in Alexandria has pushed me to write a negative review and explore CRIMINAL action against the store and its owner. This store has basically stolen my items. I consigned a Louis Vuitton wallet, a pair of Tory Burch riding boots, a pair of Tory Burch Reva ballet flats, and a pair of Elaine Turner boots to Current Boutique in Old Town more than a year ago. Over that time, I periodically checked in to see if my items sold. Each time I was told they had not and to try back later. This week I tried back one final time. When the salesgirl on the phone gave me the same spiel, I told her that I would pick up my items and sell them on my own. She told me that I could not pick them up. I told her that I did not want the items to be donated, which is what I understood that the store does with items that do not sell. She told me that my items had not been donated and were not slated for donation. When I asked her where my items are now, she could not tell me. When I asked her when they had been on the sales floor, she could not tell me. Astonishingly, she took the position that she did not have to tell me where my items are or honor my request to get them back. She claimed that the consignment contract gave the store exclusive rights to do whatever it wants with my items. I am a practicing lawyer, and that is not consistent with the legal definition of consignment. A consignment store sells goods on behalf of the owner; a consignment store does not gain ownership of the goods. I asked the salesgirl to provide me with the copy of the contract that I signed, the sales history for the items, and a phone call from the owner. The salesgirl told me that the owner probably would not call me back because SHE GETS THESE COMPLAINTS ALL THE TIME AND SHE DOES NOT CARE. I told the salesgirl that I would be forced to take legal action if the owner did not call me and provide the information that I requested by yesterday. The girl responded by telling me that THE OWNER WOULD NOT CARE BECAUSE SHE HAD DEALT WITH WORSE THAN ME. Needless to say, I did not get a call or the requested information. This has gone beyond bad customer service to theft. For all I know, my items did sell and I was never paid or the owner or one of the salesgirls converted my items to their own use. For these reasons, I have contacted the Alexandria Police about filing a theft complaint against Current Boutique. read more

Went last night, while BF worked on laptop at Killer ESP, and I'm glad u did, b/c it was just perfect to shop, w/in an hour b4 closing, it gave me the opportunity to chat, and sift thru some of the coolest "staff-picks" of inventory u have ever seen for old town--ever! It's a great layout, and shoes are systematically organized w/ strategically placed price tags via black sharpie on white sticker dots in bottom front... consistently!!! So, store has always been a fine experience, but seems to have expanded the styles, b/c a few times I gasped in disbelief while finding SOoooo many options throughout the entire store, i.e., brand names, colors, styles, shapes, shoes, boots, etc. Marketing Managers, it's prolly already been considered, but felt super-compelled to encourage the shop to update website, etc. w/ the current inventory of... EVERYTHING!! But when I stood looking at the shoes on the last back circle rack and coats below... I slowly looked up... and realized the infinite row of tall boots that seemed to continue beyond the horizon. To have that many for Fall, plus the variety of awesomeness--you gotta show whatcha got The ladies are great. They are consistent, while capturing the complete customer experience (my opinion), ie, polite, welcoming, respectful, appropriately engaging, keen sense of awareness of the customer and the shop's needs. I was impressed w/ the order of inventory, AND especially, how quickly they return fitting room items to their respectful racks, which seems to keep area clear, and increases potential sales of those items, which would otherwise be slowly accumulating rack in the back "outta sight--outta mind. I say this b/c it shows great leadership in the management and employees understanding better business practices. Too often, simple practices are overlooked and = profit loss, so b/c I believe in ur shop so much, I salute you all and will spread the word, and read many more positive reviews from the vast no. of interesting customers, with whom your are, building so many neat relationships every day. This review is of their consignment side only. I have too many formals that I've only worn once, or in one case, never worn, and I decided to look into consigning with Current. It's in a highly trafficked area of Old Town, and I'd visited the shop before, so I thought it would be a good idea. I was put off by the salesgirl, who tried to have me look around the boutique while she was reviewing the three items I brought, one of which was a formal that had never been worn (long story). Um, I'm not going anywhere while you have a couple of my formal dresses in your hands. I stood at the counter. She appeared to find a blemish on a formal I brought that had been worn twice. In a flash, she applied some stain-removing product to the dress without consulting me first. Grrr. She told me that she would take the immaculate, never-worn dress, and pushed the consignment contract towards me. Um, did you expect me to sign without telling me what your list price would be??! (Their policy is that they give you half of the sale price.) I coolly asked her what the list price would be, and she fidgeted a little before responding. At her list price, the most I could get for the dress was $40, and that could decline over time. I really don't believe that she would've listed it at $80. I paid $210 for that BCBG number! Needless to say, I kept the dress. I'll be searching for a more well-established shop in DC for my consignments. read more

I have both purchased items and have sold 1 item, another was "donated" from the Alexandria store. After 90 days Current Boutique reserve the right to "donate" your items without consent. The items I purchased (about 3 months ago) were three skirts and a blazer, all in good condition and the prices were ok. The items I brought in for resell were two jackets and a pair of black plants. The jackets/blazers were purchased for 90-100 bucks and the pants were purchased originally for about 80ish dollars; I went back at 30 days later and they weren't sold, so I figured I'd just take them to the Salvation Army, but their policy is that they stay til they sell. Well... I came back today and figured I'd see if anything sold and to give a few other items a chance to be sold. Before handing my items over the clerk checked my inventory and out of the two jackets I had a 12.50 credit. I asked why the total was only 12.50 and she said they donated my other jacket. There were no notes indicating why. So, it's ok to donate my items, but I couldn't have them back when I requested nor would they give me a receipt stating my items were donated. "It would be too much work to notify customers when and why their items are donated" stated by the clerk and they won't pay you for the items that they just give away. But it is my fault that I didn't read the contract I signed. I don't remember what the contract stated...but how do I know some one didn't just keep it for themselves? Needless to say I didn't leave my other items. I would not recommend selling your items here and I will not purchase from Current Boutique again. What I experienced is ridiculous and unacceptable. Update 1/28/2016; I received a check today for 11.50 for the jacket CB sold. I was told they only issue checks by mail; they charged me $1 for their processes and procedures. I think this place is great as a consigner. I do NOT shop there, but I have sold many a piece of clothing here and at the Arlington location. I would say the majority of my items are accepted and I even got $120 for a piece which meant it sold for $240 in the store. I think it may have been a Cole Haan leather jacket, but they assign numbers to the items on the check so you never know. I will caveat this with I donate brands such as DVF, Trina Turk, Coach, Seven for all Mankind, Nanette Lepore, Rebecca Taylor, Cole Haan, etc. My strategy for deciding what to bring in is asking myself can I wear this out or can I wear this to work. Those seem to be the clothes generally accepted. As a result I have literally got back hundreds of dollars for clothes I wasn't wearing. I do agree the service is horrible, but it's not like I'm in the store very long..... Addressing the complaints: - If you don't like the pricing model don't consign your clothes there. This is one of the best percentages of profits and highest returns I have seen in the consignment arena. As a reminder these are clothes you don't want so don't overvalue. No one but you has any sentimental feelings attached to that garment. Any money is better than letting the items sit in your closet unworn. - They tell everyone to look around while they are assessing the clothes. No one likes a neurotic hovering fool. Don't worry, they aren't going to take your clothes and you always have the option of taking the items back home with you that they don't want or if you're having second thoughts BEFORE leaving the store. - You can't get your clothes back!!!! In what consignment world are you selling in? This rule is made VERY clear in the consigning agreement. Imagine the hassle this would cause for the business owner. If you at all even think you are going to regret departing with your item, keep it and let it go unworn in that closet for another couple years. - Items are soooo overpriced here sometimes! I shop at discount retailers so sometimes I even make money by selling at Current. I count that more to luck and shopping skills though :) I will admit though, I don't consign here anymore. I just sell my stuff on eBay. You can literally sell ANYTHING new, used or abused. This way I reach a broader market, do not share profits, and don't have to deal with an unpleasant staff. I love this place. After digging through one too many thrift shops full of polyester housecoats, it's such a relief to browse through a real consignment shop that's clean, well-organized, and spacious. I've very rarely gone in to browse without coming out with something I couldn't leave behind. The prices are entirely fair -- things that were inexpensive new will be inexpensive used, and the reverse is also true. They know what they're doing; don't expect to find designer stuff at thrift store prices. The shop is well-organized by size and the pieces are all in good condition and well-chosen -- you won't find 15 of the same hideous thing. The dresses are particularly nice -- I'll never buy a formal new again. Well, I probably will, but not for the sake of necessity. Only one caveat: my bigger friends haven't had as much luck finding things, so their selection tends to around size 10 or 12 and down. I brought a friend here and she literally bought an entire wardrobe of work clothes. We had a whole list of shops in Old Town to go to, and never made it past this one, she was so happy with what she found here. read more

I don't think I've ever walked out of Current without purchasing something. The store is extremely well-curated, with an emphasis on designer clothing. They have an excellent selection of costume jewelry as well, and the clothing leans more towards the dressy/work or party-appropriate. I've consigned with Current before, and I don't have any complaints about their consignment policies. They don't take very many things, but that's understandable. I wouldn't consign anything I wasn't absolutely sure about wanting to part with, though, since you won't get your clothes back. Their prices are higher than most consignment stores, so think more retail-on-sale than thrift-store, but you can find wardrobe staples at good prices, and they have a nice mix of high-end, designer labels and more affordable clothes from H&M, Anne Taylor, Banana Republic, etc. Their purses are an especially good value - I found a Coach cross-body bag and a Brahmin purse for under $100 each, both in great condition. They don't carry much in larger sizes, so if you're between a 4 and a 12 you'll have better luck here. Also, check your clothes carefully before you buy them - although they're very good at inspecting things before they take them, I did find a sweater with an unraveling cuff. My few complaints would be the scant dressing rooms (they're very large, but they only have 3 and you will have to wait for one, especially on the weekends), that they crank the heat waaayyyy up in the store, and that the staff is often unfriendly. They've been better the last few times I've been in there, though - maybe they saw some of the reviews! read more

I have been to the Old Town Current Boutique and the Courthouse/Clarendon Current Boutique. The Old Town location has a lot more inventory. As a result, it tends to be busier. If you are not a fan of crowded shopping, you may want to try the Courthouse/Clarendon location first. Also, for me personally, there aren't as many items in my size. Despite the huge inventory, they didn't have a lot of smaller sizes in shoes, tops or dresses. They had ample sizes of the mid-range and average sizes though. Although I did not look, I suspect there is not a huge selection of larger sizes either, though that seems to be unfortunately consistent at consignment shops. Also, Current Boutique has a website where you can buy items from any of the stores online. I have not tried it yet, but it's a nice option for items you know will fit you. I recommend checking it out if you cannot make it to one of the stores. read more

Ok first of all let me start by saying this: you can get the same designer used clothes for much cheaper online. Honestly spending the prices they're asking is absurd.. I understand it's in Old Town and the rents are high but do yourself a davor: windowshop here and then compare with ebay, person to person sales apps, etc. You will be surprised. In addition, the sales staff is very catty here. Maybe it is because I am a man. I asked for some help finding something for my girlfriend, I am not up on women's fashion. The woman told me to go shop at a store that sells wedding dresses. Real helpful lady! The staff seemed very inattentive and didn't really care about customer service at all. I saw one kate spade piece that looked nice and just bought it on ebay for literally half the price this store was asking. Also the dress at Current Boutique smelled like stale perfume. Cute little shop with some great items. Like others have mentioned, everything is well-organized by size and type (e.g., work pants, jeans, sweaters, blouses); which makes it easier to find things. I've gotten some good deals here -- a pair of like-new Joe's jeans for $59 and a Polo dress shirt for $25. Staff is friendly but not overbearing, which I actually prefer when shopping/browsing. Their selection is quite a mix -- I've seen Brooks Brothers, J. Crew, Merona, and H&M all on the same rack and Tory Burch, DVF and Facconable on others. read more

My wife Sarah and I just left the Current Boutique on Kings Street. While I've been to the franchises in DC and on Wilson Boulevard -- not necessarily of my own volition -- this by far was the most memorable. I consider myself an attention to detail fellow, and I must say that the employees of this location must be of the same elk! I know my wife better than anyone and she isn't always the easiest patron to deal with (let's hope she doesn't read this). From religious 'fitting room' sessions all the way up to Supreme Court debates; on the value of the items she consigns - it can be tough on novice employees. The two ladies working today in particular were nothing short of amazing! From offering their expertise on how items fit (which saved me from having to judge each outfit Sarah tried on) to making us laugh. I must say - I didn't mind this shopping trip. Mediocre clothes, minimal designer selection. There are better boutiques in old town with real designer selections!

Honestly, there are so many other consignment shops in the Old Town Boutique district that I like a lot more. As a shopper, Current is not bad, it has a decent selection but they the racks are a little too full and sometimes I've noticed damages to the clothing. As for the staff, I'm not sure if I've ever seen one leave their perch from behind the counter- even as I carried a mountain of clothing around. I had to stock my own dressing room but I really didn't care too much about that. The biggest complaint I have about Current is their consignment process. BEWARE, unless you don't care about getting your clothing back they do not give you the clothing back after a certain period of time. The sales girl failed to mention this to me when I dropped off some clothes. I came back to pick up my check for the items that sold and pick up anything that didn't and found this out the hard way. I would much rather bring my things to Mint Condition just a few blocks away that date their items so you can get clothing back that hasn't sold or will donate them if you don't pick up unsold items. read more
