Really good food here. This is a charming, quirky little place tucked into a side of a building downtown. It's a one woman operation, so bear this in mind. The owner is the waitress and the cook (and presumably the dishwasher, etc.). The restaurant's interior has a Cuban decor, often with Caribbean music playing. Super cozy and intimate. Despite the Cuban decor, however, the food is Thai. Like I said, it's quirky. It's not your standard issue Thai restaurant food either. It's got a hard to define uniqueness to it. Super fresh and flavorful. It's really good! The main frustration with this place (and why I gave 4 rather than 5 stars), is the irregular hours of operation. It's hard to tell when it will be open. I wouldn't count on posted hours, because they're not always reliable. Understandable for a one woman operation, perhaps. But it's well worth a visit if it's open. Our approach is to aim to come and eat here (we live here in Astoria), with a back up restaurant in mind. We fully expect that the back up destination is where we'll end up eating. If Curry&CoCo is open? Great. We eat here. If it's not, we move onto the second option. I get that this might be annoying to some folks, but it is what it is. Embrace it and pop in if and when you can. Like I said, it's worth your time. The food is great.

This is here, doing a lot in not very much space.

TL/DR: don't expect a lot of interaction, she's a one woman show, handling the phone orders, the cooking, and the tables. Presumably, she also does the dishes. The food she brings out of the tiny kitchen space, however, is worth the missing socializing. In the tiniest of spaces, with four tables and a few seats at the bar, this place might be overlooked from the, what, 20' storefront? (see picture) You step in and there are a couple of four tops, a couple of two tops and the bar around the middle of the place and the kitchen in the back third. That's it. We had been noshing our way through Astoria so we were going to split something. We spotted Coconut Shrimp on the menu, and added that as an appetizer. We opted for the Sweet Basil Salmon. Over-fried shrimp are a war crime, if you ask me, so we were delighted that these were perfectly cooked. The sauce was nothing special, but we're used to the spicy Marmalade at the Fly By Night Club, so nothing else compares. A good way to start. The chef/owner/waitress/hostess/phone-order-taker/everything was in constant motion. She had her ingredients all withing arms reach and she moved from fryer to wok burner, to big stove with efficiency and fluency that bespoke her mastery of her craft. When it arrived in a cloud of aroma, it was just delicious. I cannot speak to the authenticity, but it was damned good. The salmon was fried. I assume that the fryer is used a little more here as it makes quick work of already seasoned food, and if it is used as expertly as it is here, then that's just fine with me. As I said, the salmon was tender and moist, and blended seamlessly with the sauce prepared for it. Fried Basil. In the deep fryer. Seriously. Crisp, with an almost tea-leaf flavor, when added to a bite they changed the whole experience. Teeny-tiny, even though there's no social social interaction, this is a gem in Astoria. side note, I was taking the dog out for the last piddle of the evening and had occasion to speak at some length with the aforementioned renaissance woman who owns this place. She's quite charming, which makes the lack of a social element a little more frustrating.

We found this little hole in the wall and thought we would give it a shot. We were not disappointed at all. We had the coconut shrimp, crab fried rice and yellow curry with chicken. The dishes were so tasty.

Love the atmosphere inside. Only one cook there but the food came quick and it was delicious! Good price too :) I'd eat here every day if I lived in Astoria!

Awesome!!! Best Thai food I've had in years, all made by a Cuban chef. Muy delicious. My family and I enjoyed chicken, fried rice, Penang, chicken, curry, and Penang shrimp curry. Everything was awesome. Highly recommend. So, so good!!!

Best Thai iced tea ever, and I went to Thailand. The awesome server said her Aunt makes it- definitely try. I got the pumpkin curry, which was delicious and hit all the spots. I asked for a side of crushed peanuts, which I usually add because, why not? Small inside, so keep it romantic and bring yourself or one other person. Who likes eating in groups anyway?

Crispy noodles with curry. Forgot the real name.

What a wonderful surprise hole in the wall in downtown Astoria. Traditional spices and amazing recipes. The pumpkin curry was top shelf.

That said, I've eaten it ordered from ladies squatting next to rocket stoves on the street...and I want my Thai properly spiced, like my eyelids oughta sweat. American Thai food is adjusted to our tastebuds. So, I typically get it as hot as I can, and add my own chili dust. Folks, I have met my new go-to Thai! They offer spice levels one through five. I ordered it a six. The server told me she could adjust it up to a nine spice level, if I needed that. Um, no ma'am! Six is delightful! Phad Thai tends to accentuate the savory and sweet in most presentations. Not so, this savory, crunchy, tart, and fiery masterclass in Thai noodles! It was incredible. I cannot wait to go back and put myself at the mercy of their amazing presentations of what many will visually recognize as "Thai"......but your tastebuds are in for a treat! This is a destination food truck, people! Wow. I decided, on the strength of the Phad Thai, I should taste the Thom Kha Gai I ordered before I chilled it for my intended lunch tomorrow...... Yeah, so Dee Dee has spice DOWN! Her food also has the delightful flavor layering I love most in really good SE Asian food. The mushrooms in the soup? Buttery, and perfectly cooked. A delightful springiness. The tomatoes are bright and soft. The onions still have body, and onion flavor........and there's a lot of lemongrass and galangal floating around in there! Like the other entree, the Thom Kha is super special. I'm so glad this is a local option for me......my belly has a delightful burn, my lips are only slightly numb, and I'm really content with my Thai tea and mango juice. Love this place already.

Because we were driving through on our road trip, we decided to make a stop here for a late lunch this last Tuesday afternoon, around 2:15 pm. After we parked, we walked inside and headed towards the salad bar/ hot bar food area. After looking around (there is also a counter that you can order made to order sandwiches and burritos), I ended up deciding to purchase the following: Peanut Chicken Sesame Noodle Salad, $8.99- This was quite a massive portion so I only ended up eating about 1/3 of it and then had the rest over the next few days (I ended up mixing it with some chopped cucumbers and tomatoes that I had to make a large salad). I loved the peanut sesame dressing and noodles in this salad but wished there was more chicken. Mayak Egg Noodle Bowl, $8.99- My husband picked this salad for himself but I didn't have any. He thought it was good and appreciated something fresh, as his bowl had shredded cabbage, like my salad, and cucumbers and shredded carrots. Pumpkin Pie, $6.99- My husband saw this small pumpkin pie and decided to get it because he is such a big fan of it. I actually don't like pumpkin as much as when I was much younger. But I did like this pie and thought the flavors were well balanced, not too overly sweet. ---------------------------------------- (Total= $24.97) I really appreciated that the little dining area (there is also an outdoor dining area as well but because it had rained previously, we opted to sit inside) had plastic bowls and plates available for you to put your food in. This was helpful for me to be able to thoroughly mix my noodle salad since the dressing was mostly on the bottom. Then after I mixed it, I just put it back in the plastic container and only left about 1/3 of the salad in my bowl to eat. If I lived in this area, I would definitely be a regularly of this market (specifically for the prepared food area).
