The boyfriend and I stopped by on Sunday morning after catching a flick at the Coolidge Corner theatre. We saw there was a buffet, and being as to how I'm selective about the Indian food I may try this was a safe choice. You have a decent amount of choices: you can grab mint chicken, chicken masala, chickpea salad, rice, honey balls, rice pudding dessert (not familiar with the proper names), just be aware that all of the only meats they feature for the buffet is chicken. You can ask for naan bread as a part of the meal and they will come out to your table hot and ready. The sauces are more on the mild side, most likely to appeal to the people not too fond of curry. As always, you can grab as much as you want or how little you want, and for about $15 it's definitely worth the price. read more

I ordered delivery from this place about an hour ago and was looking forward to the food but I was ultimately very underwhelmed. I had two major issues with this place: 1) Too expensive for low quality food: When I first placed my order, I had thought I placed it for 2 naan, 2 roti, 2 subjis (shahi paneer and malai kofta) and 2 orders of samosa. My total came out to $32 and I was surprised at how great a value it was. However, as it turns out, I mistakenly only order 1 subji (shahi paneer). While that was my mistake, $32 for 1 subji is expensive for this area based on the other Indian restaurant's fairly competitive prices. Not only was it expensive, but the food was cold when it arrived. We had to microwave the samosa and the naan and rotis. Needless to say, if we plan on eating delivery right away, we expect it to be hot (or at the very least, warm--this food was just cold). Finally, the shahi paneer itself tasted like it was canned tomato puree with a little bit of cream and paneer thrown in, the naan and rotis were burnt around the edges and raw dough in the center. Overall, for the price I paid, I was expecting food that was at least comparable to the other Indian restaurants in the area. 2) Terrible service: after placing my order, it took nearly an hour and a half to receive it. This wasn't a huge issue to me since I was home all day anyway so I gladly accepted the delivery and tipped the driver as I normally would. Unfortunately, I don't usually check my food before sending the delivery driver on their way. The minute I opened the bag, I noticed the beverage I had ordered (a mango lassi) had spilled out of the container and soaked through the paper bag it was in. The paper bag tore as I lifted it up. As I already mentioned the food was also cold and awful. Naturally, I gave the restaurant a call and explained my situation and all the problems I had had with the delivery. At this point, the lady I spoke to gave me some gems of customer service. I had the following responses from her: When I told her about the spilled lassi: "It's not our fault the lassi spilled, we packed it well. It must have spilled after the delivery driver dropped the food off" When I told her about the food being cold: Her: "The food was made 10-12 minutes before it was delivered, there's no way it was cold." Me: "So you're telling me I'm lying when I tell you I had to microwave it?" Her: "Well, I'm not lying." When I told her about the onion salad I had asked for not being included with my food (Indian restaurants generally serve onion salads, typically with hot peppers and lemon): Her: "We don't deliver onion salads, that's why we included a chutney" Me: "But chutney is SUPPOSED to come with samosa, it's not a replacement for onions... also, I ordered two samosas and recieved only one chutney." Her: "So you DID receive the chutney." Me: "Yes, I didn't say I didn't." Her: "Right, so we don't give you onions with that." At this point, she put me on hold without telling me and I assume she went to get a manager since he answered after the hold. After explaining everything to him, he said much of the same stuff, albeit in less of a mocking tone. I told him I could send a picture of naan/roti so he could see how bad it was and he agreed (but really, you expect unsatisfied customers to jump through hoops like this?). Anyway, I sent the pictures, then I called THEM back to ask if they had been received. At this point I was told the manager had left (remember this was about 5 minutes after I talked to him). Originally, I had wanted a small refund on my order for the trouble but since I had to jump through a million hoops and was still rewarded with terrible service, I am now planning on disputing the charge with my credit card company to ensure that the restaurant gets $0 of my money. Remember, I called them several times to come to an agreeable compromise but they were not willing to work with me. It should speak volumes about this place that I plan on disputing it, which affects my credit score, just because THAT's how much I don't think they deserve my money. read more

Pretty good Indian buffet. I guess it is my boyfriends favorite place and I have noticed that we go there everytime we are both in Boston. The food is good and affordable. The naan takes a while in case that makes a difference. It is super casual and seems to have different selection each time you go. I recommend it if you are looking for a filling hot meal. read more

Now I've had a couple days now to think about this one and I'm still not sure what to give them. We spontaneously went here, which we NEVER do when it comes to eating out. We go out very infrequently, so when we do, I make sure the restaurant is legit and not out of our price range. We wanted to try some of the Indian food around Coolidge corner though and the prices on the menu outside brought us in to eat here. However, I didn't realize until after i ordered that they left the lunch menu outside and my vegetarian entree was $13. Now for dinner this ain't terrible, but I never appreciate it when restaurants make the vegetarian meals as expensive as the meet dishes (they were the exact same price). They actually got our order wrong and charged me for something I ordered, but then said I didn't want. However, this was a language barrier problem I think and I wasn't about to have them take it out of the waiters salary when I should have clarified further. The environment was really weird. It reminded me of a cafeteria and just doesn't seen to match their prices. There's no waiter service and you go up to order your food. You grab your own silverware and out it away. All very strange for $13 entrees.. But here's the twist-the food was actually delicious...all of it! I couldn't believe how good it was considering their presentation of it and the restaurant as a whole. The quality of the food simply doesn't match the environment and style of this restaurant. The food was definitely 4 stars-without question. So all in all I would say this is a great lunch buffet place (where I'm sure they make a killing), but I'm not sure about dinner. But in the end the food is great and that's what matters most-at least to me ;) read more

Got this delivered for the first time the other day and will get it again I'm sure. It's not the best Indian food I've ever had, but quite good for the price. My samosas were a little greasy and the naan a tad doughy, but both were greatly improved after a few minutes in the toaster oven. Maybe condensation during delivery was to blame. The vegetable korma was very tasty, and as is typical with Indian food, even better the next day as leftovers. Portions were pretty generous. read more

Okay so I couldn't stay away because I am a hungry person and I really like Indian food. And look, they added one star. What have I learned? That the only vegetarian dish that is tolerable is the aloo mutter. Potatoes and peas. That's it. I've forever sworn off of the "combos" because I couldn't find a second veggie option that had any flavor and didn't taste like old socks. I even got a dish once (it was some type of mixed veggies) that was COLD. Not just lukewarm, but like it was originally frozen and they didn't heat it up properly. When I bit into a piece of potato and then cauliflower, it was cold. I got a little scared at that point in time wondering what type of bacteria was now growing on my food. Yipes. So, I might go every so often if I'm in a rush and I'm craving Indian food. However, I'm through with trying out other entrees and trying to give them second, third, ninth chances. Basic Indian, ok price. This place has a very nice decor, open and airy. The food is lined up like a buffet, just tell the counter person what you want and he'll plate it up for you. I got the Combo 2 which allows one meat and one veg option. It comes with rice. The garlic naan I ordered was made on the fly. Decent Chicken Tikka Masala, and the same for the Saag (or Palak) Paneer. The problem was that the rice had quite a few bits that were overdone. I paid $13 for a meal with a bottled water and got bad rice. Great concept of quick Indian food on the go, not so great delivery. I will keep hunting. read more

My friends and I stumbled upon this place last Thursday before the blizzard started looking for some warm food. I hate to admit it but it was also my first time eating Indian food. The man working on the floor immediately greeted us and got us started with the buffet. The food was warm and savory just like I wanted it to be. The chicken tikka masala was absolutely delicious I got seconds. They also serve fresh toasty naan with the buffet which was better than any store bought naan I've tried. Even in the midst of a blizzard there were regulars here and the place was really beautiful. They play these Indian music videos which aren't bad either. The decor is really nice too and it was just an overall pleasant experience. The guy on the floor really took pride in how the restaurant looked. I'm surprised to see so many Yelpers hating on this place. As the other reviews read, Curry House is cafeteria style. Got a Combo #2 (rice, oinion bhaji, saag paneer, chicken tandoori). Pretty decent amount of meal, cost me around $10. The food itself was pretty solid. My gripes, though, were that: - the "homemade cheese" in the saag paneer was definitely tofu (not found in the description) -bhaji was not crispy; just plain greasy. If this were the only Indian food in Boston I would be content. However... as most of us know, this is not the case. read more

Aaah, my Curry House. Where would I be without you? It's my go-to Indian food restaurant at Coolidge Corner. For my money it's just as good as Dahni but for a better price. Quality-wise It doesn't stack up to Tamarind (Washington Square), but I think the prices are the cheapest in Brookline, and delivery is free. I had ducked my head inside one day to grab a menu and it sure smelled great in there! When I finally went it wasn't the best. I was not expecting a buffet style and being that it was 30 minutes before closing time when we went in there I think it wasn't so fresh. Curry House has solid Indian Food at a much more reasonable price than surrounding restaurants. I think the experience depends on how/what/when you order. I haven't had the lunch buffet, but that's definitely one way to experience Curry House. Buffet aside, they have a few combo platters that combine entrees with apps and naan. This is a good choice if you like a lot of variety for $10, but the food is "dished out" buffet style with this option. Yummy, cost-effective but not really made-to-order. They also have a more traditional menu with full-sized entrees, apps, tandoori, & naan options. Items are mads to your specs (medium-hot with lots of onion chutney, for me) and come with either rice or naan. If you're looking for a more intimate experience, Rani next door is a better bet, but you'll definitely pay a higher price. If you're more into a quick meal at a reasonable price, then Curry House is your place! read more

It's been two hours since dinner and I'm full. So very full, I can't help but say so every 2 minutes and believe me my roommates are tired so me talking, I'm now in my room writing a review. I had the combo plate with chickpeas and Chicken Tikka Masala. At first glance of the price and portions, I didn't think I'll ever go back. In this case, first impressions can be VERY deceiving. With the combo, you get two The small bowls each of the entrees are served in, how a surprising amount. The portion of rice or Nan bread that you get as well is piled high on a standard dinner plate. I've only eaten here for the lunch buffet and it's not bad. However, I'm not an Indian food connoisseur as I've only started eating about three years ago and even then I was into dosas and not other things. Every time we go this buffet there are different dishes ranging from chicken tikka, chicken curry, saag paneer, channa marsala and sambhar soup. I like the sambhar soup and the channa marsala (I love me some chickpeas!). The dishes are OK, not the best but the price isn't bad $10.65. They also give you naan. Mmm. naan. All I know is that I had high expectations of this place. Having never been in, the cafeteria style counter was a welcome surprize. And the staff friendly. And there is plenty of water available, I drink a lot while eating. But the food itself was, well, meh. The rice was good but the vindaloo chicken was the mildest I have ever had. hmm... lots of negativity being thrown at this place. I think it's a great place for a quick fix of popular indian dishes. Everything I've had here has been solidly prepared and satisfying. The chicken vindaloo was the perfect level of spicy heat. Saag Paneer was solid too. But I think the star is the fresh naan. Suprised more folks haven't commented on that. I think the naan itself is reason enough to go here. The place is clean, tactfully decorated, and actually had a cool mix of indian music playing in the background. PROS: Wonderful spiced chicken dishes, delicious veggies, spinach, cauliflower. We were here on a Wednesday evening, so they had cafeteria style service (we picked out our combos and put food on trays, took to table etc.), not the buffet. We had a great meal, fast, savory, good value. Bonus: we found this place via restaurant.com, so we had a $25 coupon with us for extra savings. It's a pretty place, with warm red walls and Indian art. Super clean bathroom, very nicely done. CONS: It was a humid day in Brookline, and there was no A/C. The doors were open, there was a breeze. It wasn't bad, but eating that spicy hot food in the heat wasn't 100% pleasant for me (thus the 4 Star rating). read more

I'm updating my review for their delivery - containers I mentioned before seem to have been upgraded. The issue I mentioned in a previous review hasn't happened since my last review and that was 18 months ago! Frankly - I always enjoy the food I get here. No regrets. Ever. Lovely delivery service - always extremely friendly folks - everything has always been correct with my order. I have since "graduated" from my student discount, but the food is still worth the money to me. Chicken korma was very good when I recently tried it. I enjoy the veggie samosas, basmati rice, saag paneer (lots of paneer!), chicken tikka masala (lots of chicken and no waste!), yummy naan... and my friend said her mango lassi was very good too when she tried that recently. This is a review for the lunch buffet. There aren't exactly many Indian lunch buffets around, but Curry House has a good one for a cheap price ($9-$10). As long as you stuff yourself silly (and I don't think that's particularly hard), it's a great deal. They always put out basmati rice, some sort of very tasty carb (I've been told they've put out samosas sometimes, but I've seen either a potato pancake or deep fried vegetable amalgam), chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, and then a variety of chicken/vegetable dishes. Usually, there's some sort of rice pudding for dessert. The tandoori chicken has certain tender pieces (so choose well) and many dry pieces. Usually the chicken tikka masala is very good (it was only chewy once, and we've gone many times). The naan has always been great, but it's extra. They bring it to your table for you. Basically, pick and choose the highlights of what's good that day and then proceed to stuff yourself. To get the buffet, you walk in, pay for the buffet (which goes from 11 am - 3 pm), grab a plate, and you get food to your heart's content. I haven't experienced the service issues others have, other than the usual leave-you-alone attitude at a lot of Asian places. That's never been an issue for me, but it might be for others. read more

I go to this place from time to time for their weekday buffet on my lunch break when I am completely starving. It's cafeteria style, open, and I love when they have bollywood dancing on the tv. The staff could be nicer. I just feel like they hate their lives. There could be more selection for their buffet. But the food is decent and fills my belly. Gourmet Curry House is a solid choice for middle-of-the-road cafeteria-style Indian cuisine. Though the food is solidly three stars, I give an extra star because the staff has a habit of bringing my naan bread out to me rather than making me go back up to the counter to get it. At a counter service buffet, I appreciate that they go the extra mile if you're nice to them. The naan falls right in the middle of the spectrum of naan that I have had. It soaks up the sauces of the food well and underlines the flavors. The chicken tikka masala (the General Gau's Chicken of Indian-American food) is not as spicy as I might like, but it has a good flavor to it. Ditto the chicken curry and even the Tandoori chicken. At one point, the lunch buffet featured a ground chicken dish that was very good, though I have not seen it in a month or so. The kheer (rice pudding) is fine, though I have had better in my experiences. If you go at anytime other than when they have buffets, the food is more expensive, and it's probably not worth what they're charging given what's right up the street. But for lunch, the buffet is a very good value given the quality of the food. I enjoy this place and I stop here semi-regularly for lunch on the weekends. I recommend Gourmet Curry House. read more

Not bad. We got delivery from here the other night and the food was solid. We got chicken vindaloo and saag paneer. Both dishes were solid...the vindaloo is definitely the spiciest i've had in Boston by far. I like that they let you choose rice or naan so that we could get one order of each with our food without having to buy extra naan. we also ordered raita which was a nice sized portion. the delivery also was about 20 minutes ahead of schedule which awesome considering it was prime dinner time on a weekend and we weren't particularly close. read more

Amazing food, they also have great vegetarian choices. Mango Lassi was delicious as well as the Channa Masala. Staff were very friendly. Restaurant was very clean and tables had plenty of space between them. Restaurant is fully wheelchair accessible, very open and easy to move around. Will be coming back for sure. read more

We had some tasty Aloo Gobi, spinach and cheese thing (palak paneer?) , and some chickpea dish. Got a couple free samosas along with it and some garlic naan. All good. Flavor wasn't as great as some other Indian I've had but maybe next time I'll try some higher spice (went with mild). Ordered via Yelp online and it was ready just as I walked in the door, about 20 minutes after ordering early Monday afternoon. Will have to try the buffet some time. I'm extremely disappointed with my pickup order I had made today. I ordered a Saag Paneer (spicy level-hot) with Veggie Samosas. I opted out of getting the lunch buffet since they only make the Saag Paneer mild for everyone, which makes sense. When I had picked up my order and starting taking my first few bites, I noticed it was still mild like from the buffet. I'm suspicious that all they did was scoop the same Saag Paneer from the buffet and prepped my order since it only took 10 minutes to be ready since I ordered it. Only thing hot from this experience, was how burned I got from making a custom order with them :( read more

Ordered delivery, was quoted an hour's delivery time, called after 90 mins to be told the order had left the kitchen 20 mins ago and should be here very soon. We waited another 30 mins then called back to cancel - food that's been driven around for almost an hour is probably no longer hot. At $40 it was an expensive meal, too, for 2 people (seems more economical to eat in the restaurant). Plus we were ravenous by then - on the verge of tearing chunks from couch cushions. We wanted to order somewhere else and know it was truly on its way. They were ok with us cancelling and refunded the money (for which we are grateful, thanks :) then the delivery guy turned up 15 mins later, I guess no-one could reach him to tell him we'd cancelled. not a great delivery experience. food has always been good in the restaurant though. read more

I have tried their lunch buffet once..and was so disappointed. The food was completely bland unlike the typical Indian cuisine. The service - non existent and the lady at the counter - extremely rude! The only thing that I did like was their Mango lassi. Since there are a number of comparisons on Yelp with the quite nearby Rani, I went there after my lunch to look at their buffet. The décor is certainly more elegant, but then it would be difficult for it to be less so. The Rami buffet looked very sparse, with perhaps only seven serving trays. I'd say this is a somewhat standard Indian buffet, but on the plus side of the middle of the range. The Naan is cooked for you when you get your first plate of food. When I first tried the Chicken Tikka Masala I was amazed at how tender and moist the chicken was - it clearly had not been pre-cooked in a tandoor. I know some people trash India Quality, but I am firmly devoted to their rich and flavorful Masala sauce, and that at Curry House didn't come close, although the chicken was much better - if non-traditionally prepared. My first serving of Pakoras were quite good, but the second round was quite heavy and dense. I don't know if they were actually from the same batch and had just sat out for too long, but the initial pair had definitely seemed much lighter. The vegetable korma was fine, although the sauce was on the soupy side. I have yet to find a buffet with good Tandoori Chicken, and this place was no different. I can only think that it's a combination of the cooking method and then sitting out on a buffet line. Also that the breast is the only piece that would be able to retain moisture through tandoor cooking, and obviously no one will cook breast pieces for a buffet. The Raita was excellent, with more additives then I'm used to seeing, while the kheer was only average. read more

Last sunday I came here with my BF here, we were just craving something that we never had before. So we were just walking from Allston (where we live) to Brookline and voting for each new place we saw, so this Curry House matched both of our votes. the atmosphere was a little but weird, but it was crowded, which made me think that it's a good place. So we actually got on buffet time, I was happy cuz I was able to see the food I was about to eat. I liked the rice and everything else , BUT THE BEST DISH IS THE CHICKEN TIKKI MASSALA (sorry if I misspelled it). We actually got an extra of it after we were done with a first plate. Oh, anf the very good news is that u can go to buffet as much as u want and pick as much food as u want, no limits!!!! (my bf asked the cashier about it and he said that we could come back to the buffet and take more food). Today I had a day off, no food in fridge and guess what? I went to this place all by myself!!! All i ate is rice, naan bread (which is awesome and free) and that chicken i mentioned!!! I ate at 2 pm and i'm still not hungry at 10 pm :) lol! Thanks for everything Curry House!
