We've been going to Cushing Square Vet Clinic for 10 years. We have had a few different vets and technicians over that time and each one has been fantastic. They provide you with treatment options and are willing to discuss the situation with you and not pass judgement on your decisions. Sadly, during those ten years, we have had two senior cats that needed to be put to sleep. Their staff (from the front desk to the vets) were compassionate and comforting to both the cats and to us. We also received lovely condolences cards both times. When we moved to the Boston area 15 years ago, our first vet was horrible, the second was ok, but Cushing Square (the third try) has been great through mundane and traumatic events. I cannot recommend this practice highly enough. read more

While the doctors, staff and atmosphere are nice, we recently went in for a booster shot for my 1 year old dog and they charged an extra $45 simply to do a "check up" prior to the shot without asking or letting us know it was their "policy". While it's fine and makes some sense to do a checkup, doing so without asking or explaining themselves felt backhanded. The worst part was that he had one of these "check ups" literally a month before this for another booster. I've enjoyed most visits to this clinic otherwise, but won't be returning. read more

Are you kidding me with this place??? We have two guinea pigs after having dogs for 20+ years and had to change vets because ours doesn't see guinea pigs. Our little guys had respiratory and eye issues after purchasing them at a local pet store (ugh) so after a brief search found CSV on yelp. Noticed good reviews but didn't read them. Fast forward a few weeks, was lucky enough to try out both Dr. Starble and Dr. Binder. Can't say one is better than the other they are both amazing. Go above and beyond and genuinely care. It's the docs that call to check on the pets to follow up after our visits. On our second visit (chronic head tilt on one of our pigs) Dr. Binder explained what the bead tilt meant (beyond the obvious ear issue) and offered to contact a former colleague with an MRI machine that could work on such a small animal. Next day Dr. Binder calls me back - she's spoken with her former colleague and instead of pressuring me to spend a fortune on an MRI they've come up with another medicine to try. She explained that it's possible the medicine won't work but that an MRI would be so costly and won't lead to any other solutions (pig likely has interior damage to his ear and isn't suffering). I never felt one bit of judgement at my disinterest in spending on an MRI for a little Guinea pig. These doctors genuinely care and I can't recommend them enough. read more

I've been bringing my cats to Cushing Square for probably 8 years or so, and have seen Dr. Emara, Dr. Kay and Dr. Sullivan on different occasions - all of them have been extremely helpful, caring and professional. Their technicians and receptionists have always been exceptionally friendly, especially when my grumpy cats are less than friendly back! (And they have always gone out of their way to get my cats seen even with little notice!) The vets have handled every concern that has cropped up with my cats, including minor surgery, and always follow up in a timely manner. Whenever something was needed that the clinic could not provide, they were ready with recommendations for other hospitals/facilities and I've been nothing but pleased! Cushing Square Vet is a great animal clinic. The place is clean and the staff is wonderful. Like a few previous posters, I started coming to this clinic after Dr. Binder purchased the practice. I truly value Dr. Binder. So much so, I have followed Dr. Binder through three previous animal clinics/hospitals and drive over an hour to get to her practice. She has such a way with animals that I have never seen before with veterinarians - so kind, empathetic, and friendly. (And I SWEAR the animals recognize it!) More importantly, she is very knowledgeable. She explains the situation, offering all alternatives up for discussion. Just generally a great vet. read more

Years ago I was a regular at Cushing Square with my Boston Terrier. They were amazing and when she started to develop strange little seizures they figured out quickly the cause (cancer) and we determined a humane treatment plan for the dog's remaining days. Fast forward 8 years and we have a new rescue dog. I had since moved three towns away and took our new dog to a new vet closer to us. My gut told me to go back to Cushing -always trust your gut. The new vet (to us) while I suspect competent, did not have same bedside manner, compassion and knowledge as the Cushing Square group. So back to Belmont we go --and it's worth the drive for us to know that a great team takes care of our dogs regular vet needs. read more

I recently had to put my kitty to sleep, and Dr. Binder of Cushing Square Veterinary Clinic was so compassionate, kind and gentle with her during the procedure. I had not planned on making this decision so it was somewhat of a shock to leave the office without my kitty. Today, I received a card from Dr. Binder with a hand-written note, letting me know that she believed I made a good decision in the best interest of my kitty. Hand-written. It was so thoughtful of her to do this, as I've been feeling unsure about whether or not I did the right thing. I don't know of any other vet that would have gone to this measure. read more

I cannot say enough about Cushing Square Veterinary Clinic. It is amazing. The staff is well beyond professional - and, Dr. Binder is the best of the best. She cares for the animals that she sees as if they were her own. My dog is a 12 1/2 year old Black Labrador Retriever - and, having Dawn as Windy's veterinarian is a blessing. I know that my dog is receiving the best care that she possibly could be - and, there are simply no words. The costs are reasonable/comparable - and, I could not be happier with the care that Windy receives. I daresay that Windy would agree. We generally walk to her appointments and when I tell her that we are going to the vet she is so excited. Enough said... A+! read more

Just had to write after seeing the very negative review about one person's experience with having their pet put down at this clinic. I first came here 13 years ago when my 19 yo cat was nearing the end. My former vet heavily pressured me to spend all kinds of money on tests and meds for a cat that wasn't in pain and had lived a long, blessed life. I wanted to find a vet who would partner with me to manage her remaining days humanely and affordably. This place was it and more. The day we put her down was so hard, but every staff member there was compassionate and patient with my crying and needing to hold her one last time. Now, my dog is 15 and the same kind of conversation is sadly beginning. They recognize my deep love for my animal, but also completely support me choosing treatment for her that respects her age, her condition and my bank account. I highly value the care we have always received there. read more

Love this veterinary clinic. We recently moved to MA and was referred to Cushing Square Vets. The staff is professional, friendly and helpful. Both vets are great. Knowledgeable as well as friendly. We have two dogs who are our babies and they were great with them. Would recommend this clinic for sure. read more

This is not a sympathetic vet. I stuck with them because I was close to my home. They are rude on email and on the phone. The last straw for me was during Covid 19 when I asked them to refill my cats prescription for insulin and they said no unless I bring him into their office. They have no special system in place and I am considered high risk right now and cannot go in the office. I asked them to refill it for 1 more month until things settle down and they refuse to do so - even said I would make an appointment for early may. I have been going to this vet for over 3 years and have spent 1000's of dollars with them. She told me "we've told you this before". He is ~3 weeks overdue for his appointment which is nothing considering I've been told to stay home for over a month now and not leave my house for 3 weeks at least. She also asked if my parents could bring him in (I'm in my 40's so show how much emotional intelligence she has - let's send 70 year olds out during covid 19) My cat will likely die without insulin. I also monitor him at home and his diabetes is stable for years now so the situation is just really irrational. I suggest anyone who thinks about going here to think twice. Another friend brought her cat here and it came home with fleas. It's not a clean office and is often over capacity so it's the last place I would go right now. I have reported the incident to the vet board and hope the will investigate. I see many other vets have good systems in place and will hopefully be more helpful. I am not one to complain about people but this should be known so people consider who they are dealing with. I also have realized how much they are over charging me for insulin compared to other vets as I look for help elsewhere. Bottom line is think twice before going here. read more

I cannot imagine taking my dog to another vet in the area. The staff is extremely friendly. You can tell they love animals, and I've been to other vets where you wonder why they decided to become a vet. They are very thorough when checking out your pet and discussing their findings with you. They talk you through all of your options and the prices so you understand exactly what you are looking at. I have been taking my cats to Cushing Square Vet Clinic for more than 25 years. That probably says it all. The staff is extremely dedicated to the health and happiness of the animals they attend to. They will drop everything to help when there is an emergency. While definitely not inexpensive, the value you get in terms of piece of mind is excellent. My cats are older and starting to have health issues and she is really good at explaining my options for care. She has an amazing contact with animals, one of my cats used to have be muzzled to get a nail trim and she can do whatever she wants to him, he still loves to see her! read more

Dr. Binder is truthfully the best vet my family and I have ever experienced. She's unbelievably caring and compassionate and makes every interaction a good one. My dog is almost 16 years old and she deals with our constant questions and my family's fairly high level of anxiety. We live about a half hour away but could not imagine going to another vet, no matter the distance. She also is extremely knowledgeable and offers a variety of solutions for our dogs problems. She also calls us frequently anytime she knows our dog is sick just to check up on him. If you're looking for a vet in the Boston area, she's the best choice you can make. read more

When we got our puppy 2 months ago I asked around for referrals for a vet. A colleague of mine insisted I bring him to Dr. Binder after having gone through many, many vets in the Belmont/Cambridge/Watertown area. She insisted that no other vet had been so kind and caring (and reasonably priced) and that I would love her. She was absolutely right. My husband and I adore her and really appreciate how much she LOVES our puppy. When our puppy had a cough and runny nose, she managed to fit him into her schedule right away. I've never waited for more than 5 minutes in the waiting room, and every time I get the bill I say "oh, that's it?" Honestly, I would never consider another vet after meeting Dr. Binder and the staff at Cushing Square! read more

Dr. Binder is the most educated, compassionate and dedicated vetinarian I have ever been to. She was filling in for the previous vet I used to go to when I took Tabitha for her appointment. I'm so grateful she was there and not the other Dr. I was so impressed with her dedication and concern for my elderly kitty that had several heath issues. When I took my darling Tabitha to Dr Binder Tabitha just had gone blind. Dr Binder called me the morning after our appointment and said she was up all night researching her illness. She had a medication that could possibly help. It did!!! My Tabitha got her eyesight back in a day. It broke my heart to see her blind. She's a peace now but at least she could see us before she died. We have two other kitties now and I have taken them to Dr. Binder and they love her! They are relaxed at the office and don't mind the drive! I couldn't think there is another vet that is better then Dr. Binder. read more
