Don't do it! Let me just share with you the recent experience I just had with this mortuary. So although the counselor Heidi was very nice. It seems as if everything we talked to her about wasn't executed correctly or at all. They only she did was communicate to the cemetery. My father just passed away i. Mother's Day. A veteran and religious Christian man. They could even provide me with all the correct info for my dad's military honors. I had to search and call 4 different places and people to get my dad's firing volley to find out it was at the veterans cemetery in Riverside. All she had to do is ask if they had availability. Then on the day of our viewing with my dad we were robbed of our personal time with my dad because the sound and tv system wasn't working. They asked me to provide an MP4 video in a usb. We spent 2 hours trying to figure out what to do to pay my dad's memorial video. I then had to buy my own projector and Bluetooth speaker for this. The on-site coordinator/ director didn't know or do anything to help us. He also didn't stop people f coming in to the room for our 1 hour personal time with him. He also took it upon himself to open the floor up for people to speak against our wishes to do things different. He also made me feel weird by asking him to communicate with the cemetery about a gift someone was giving us (flying doves) he said he's never heard of such things. He did nothing for us and the whole thing was jacked up. They don't care. When I communicate this to a manager she sent it to the owners and all they said was they will look into it and the director will get retraining. They robbed us of our special time and this place is a mess!! Don't do it! They just want your money. I've been to other places that are way better! read more

Came to a viewing here. I was greeted politely and the place was very clean and spacious. Their bathrooms were clean as well. From what I know everything went smoothly and was done right for this viewing to happen. They even had a paper program done. read more

I highly recommended this funeral home. My mom suddenly passed away, and we did not have anything set in place for her, so I was scrambling to put something together. I called a few different places. I was disgusted to learn that many funeral homes treat it like a business and seem to want to take advantage of you when you are most vulnerable. I was recommended by a family friend. I called and spoke to Armando, and came in for an appointment. He genuinely seemed sympathetic and he did not try to upsell me at all, once I told him how much I had to work with. Him and the entire staff were really wonderful. He also put me in contact with a broker to find the a resting place for my mom. He helped me find the perfect spot at Rose Hills. The funeral went so smooth. I was so happy with the entire process and the funeral service itself. Losing a loved one is the most difficult thing to ever have to go through. My experience with Custer Christiansen was excellent, and I am grateful. The staff was professional and friendly, knowledgeable and patient in answering all my questions. My loved one wanted to be cremated, and we have a family plot in another location, so we did not do a funeral service or casket viewing with Custer Christiansen, so the services they provided were transporting the body from the hospice place, and cremation. It was notable to me that the staff was skillful in being professional, empathetic, and friendly, all at the same time. I never felt rushed, I felt safe to ask all of the questions I had, and the paperwork process was easy and smooth. Their prices were super reasonable and I really appreciated that. They also had a website where they posted the obituary that we wrote, along with a photo of our loved one, and it had a virtual guestbook where friends and family could write comments if they wished. I thought that was a great feature, especially during Covid. I went with a family member to their office while our loved one was in hospice, and I have to say that it felt easier taking care of things before our loved one passed. I had another loved one pass away 3 years ago and we went to the funeral home and did all the paperwork and things after he passed away, and it felt more difficult. So I recommend if it's possible for you (if your loved one is in hospice, etc.) to take care of the paperwork and arrangements before their passing. Getting the death certificates was a longer process not because of them, but because of Covid and the LA County health dept taking longer. I called a few times to check on the status, and each time the staff was friendly and updated me to the best of their ability, and I really appreciated that. Came here for my friend's father's viewing. It was easy enough to find, just about a mile from the 10 freeway. The salon was big enough and well kept and there is a kitchenette with a sink, refrigerator and microwave with tables and chairs for the daily repast that Filipinos are wont to do. A separate entrance door straight to the kitchenette makes it easier to bring in food and what not, without bothering the solemnity of the viewing area. Parking can be tight though, especially if you have a big family or many friends who'd like to visit. I hope not to visit this place soon if you know what I mean, but when the time comes I will surely keep them high on the list. read more

This definitely was not an easy review to write, but as many of you may already know, this summer we very unexpectedly and tragically lost my father in a car accident, and decided to have his services here. Making arrangements for a loved one is definitely one of the most awful things I've ever had to do in my life and the staff at Custer Christiansen definitely helped the best they can to make the entire process a little bit easier. Our funeral arranger Armando was so sweet and helpful to my family. He was with us every step of the way, whether it be explaining paperwork to us, getting us coffee or water, and even getting us tissues for the harder moments. He would call to remind of us of paperwork that was due and genuinely cared to see how my family was doing. Weeks after my father's service he even personally delivered a necklace of my dad's thumbprint to my mom. My dad's service was absolutely beautiful. Fay and Armando were very accommodating to my family and all of the guests that attended. They did not rush us or pressure us in any way at all. Their chapel is small and very nice but definitely fills up fast with loved ones coming to pay their last respects. I genuinely wish that no one ever has to go through this type of experience, but that's life. It's definitely awful and heartbreaking, but if you do ever need to unfortunately plan a service for your loved one, I highly recommend this mortuary. They genuinely care about your family and do not act like used cars salesmen. They are respectful and definitely cater to the needs of you and your loved ones. read more

Rip off when you're at you're lowest...DON'T GIVE THESE GUYS YOUR BUSINESS. Shop around. My mother passed away unexpectedly late Tuesday evening away from her home. The police officer that responded asked if we had a preference in mortuaries. Not being prepared, we said we didn't know of any in the area. He recommended Custer Christiansen; he said they were good, and reasonably priced. We said OK, and they made the call. It took them more than 2 1/2 hours to arrive to take the body away, and said they would be in touch the next day to finalize arrangements. They didn't advise us of any costs, or options - just spent about 5 minutes to collect the remains and go. When they called the next day, they asked when I could come to their location in Covina to finalize arrangements and sign documents. I informed him that we wanted cremation services, and asked that, since I live in Lakewood, could this be arranged over the phone and send documents via email. He said no, I would have to come in, and also, my siblings would also have to come in and sign documents. I told him that it would be difficult to get them there, and he said he could FedEx the docs to them and they could return them by FedEx. When I asked how much cremation services would be, he told me that it starts at approximately $2000. What! When my father passed, it cost about $600 for everything. After considering this, I told him that I didn't think we would want their services and asked how we could transfer the services to another provider. He said that they would be happy to transfer her to another mortuary, but they would charge us $595 for the pickup that they did the night before. The mortuary that we decided to go with, Chapman Funeral Care, will only charge us $587 for everything (pick-up & cremation). Custer Christiansen is charging us that much just to pick up the body. That's ridiculous. And they won't budge on the price either. This mortuary is part of the largest mortuary corporation in the country. They are there to take as much money as they can from you while you are at your most vulnerable point. DON'T GIVE THESE GUYS YOUR BUSINESS. Shop around. There are better options! read more

18 years ago my grandparents made funeral arrangements they had everything paid for and covered. Back then it was owned by a different company. recently my grandmother passed away and they honored everything. we worked with Anthony and he has been absolutely wonderful and incredibly helpful. he has made this entire painful process very smooth for. us he had every opportunity to tell my grandpa that he owed more or make up other charges and he did not he was very honest and took amazing care of my family. We were guided to go here. Armando took very good care us. He made sure we were comfortable with everything. And thanks to him...we were. My 18 year old was called to be with the Lord on 1/14/18. She was a very charismatic girl, beloved by her huge family, highshool friends, and her close to 3K Instagram followers (make-up arstisit). Armando handled the well over 500 people at the veiwing and facilitated every aspect of the ceremony. The next day at the cemetery he made sure everybody that wanted to leave a rose on my daughters casket, had one. It was 200+ people there. I called Custer Christiansen because I need a death certificate for my father who died in 2007. I called them because they were the ones to provide his service ,they have been so nice to me .They offer to get the death certificate, I didn't have to do anything except Supply the $20 it cost for the certificate. I just received a call from them and they have it and they are going to mail me the certificate what a wonderful experience I surely appreciate that they are able to do this thank you again custer christainsen. read more

I am giving them an excellent review...why? From the time I called until the end of my husband's viewing was over, they have a superb service to our family, friends and relatives. Jesse accommodated me and my kids even without appointment for cremation consultation. They were able accommodate my request for viewing day despite their busy schedule to have my husband's viewing on a Saturday right before the holidays! Their price was very reasonable. The place is very clean. The eating area is very spacious and there's no extra charge. The 2 gentlemen that assisted during the viewing day were very professional, I think their names were Robert and Al. The date was Dec 15, 2018 from 10AM to 4PM. I apologize if I didn't get their names right. Robert was so kind and sensitive to our needs during the whole time we were there. He made sure that we always have everything we need. Cremation process was also very quick. The whole process went very smoothly. We were able to pick up my husband's urn the following week. My children are very pleased with the entire service, and that is very important to me. Thank you. read more

My wonderful mom passed away a week before Christmas. Needless to say I was devastated and had no idea how to begin the process. Custer Christiansen was wonderful. The entire staff, especially Armando and Carlos, were exceptional. They recommended a reverend and he was great. We had her service and small reception at Custer Christiansen and the burial at a cemetery in Culver City. They were with us every step of the way. My dad recently passed away and it's never an easy thing to make funeral arrangements for a loved one. With that being said, everyone we dealt with at Custer Christiansen (Anthony, Geri, Armando and Robert) all went above and beyond anything we could of even imagined. Right from the initial meeting with Armando we were put at an immediate ease which made the process so much easier to deal with. What could of been a very emotional and difficult process for us turned out to be the exact opposite. The professionalism that Armando displayed while going over every detail with us lifted any stress we might of been feeling prior to arriving and was replaced with total peace and comfort. He accommodated any requests we had and even recommended things we did not even think of that allowed us to honor my fathers life in such a beautiful way. On behalf of our entire family we will be forever grateful for all you did for us. The vigil and funeral were so beautifully planned and I would not of changed a thing or added anything. I was impressed with Custer Christiansen last month when Armando Luna assisted my family with my grandma's funeral. Luna and the staff were helpful, caring, and informative during the whole experience grieving my grandma and planning her celebration of life. If I had any questions or requests, they were helpful and quick. I have a large family and their chapel accommodated all of us. There was enough room and street parking. They have a kitchenette and tables for refreshments as well as a fridge. They had televisions to play videos and music. They made the gravesite services beautiful and organized. They helped our family during a difficult time and I really appreciate their services. I recommend this mortuary service for any loved ones who have passed. read more

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND this mortuary. They made multiple mistakes in paperwork and the spelling of my moms name at the vigil. They also "misplaced" paperwork necessitating extra trips to the mortuary. The night of our vigil the "attendant" asked us to step outside so she could close up even though we were only 2 1/2 hours into our 4 hours that came with the service. If I could give them a rating of 0, I would do so. I very strongly suggest you DO NOT use this mortuary. My mother recently died on a Saturday, in the hospital and I contacted Custer Christiansen Mortuary to come and get her body so I could make funeral arrangements. For many decades, our family has used their services for the funerals of loved ones, so it seemed like a natural move; obviously have grown totally inept over the years. I understand they are no longer family owned and operated, but are now part of a large corporation. In my initial conversation with a man from their mortuary, he repeatedly misspelled the names I gave him when he asked for specific information. That was my first red flag; as it did not give me a lot of confidence, since he made numerous mistakes. Before I left the hospital, I signed the necessary papers to allow them to pick up my mother's body. On Sunday, I received a call from a woman at the mortuary saying I had to come in to sign papers so they could pick up my mother so they could take her to the crematorium. I told her in no uncertain terms my mother was not to be cremated; she was to be embalmed for a funeral. She said, she was sorry she just made a mistake. About two sentences later, the woman said something to the effect of "...but Karen, we need you to sign the papers for pick-up so we can get her cremated..." I said she is NOT to be cremated and who is Karen? By this point she was quite flustered and I was handed over to someone who sounded like the man I spoke to the day before, who couldn't get the spelling of names correct. I told him I did not want my mother cremated and that neither I nor my mother were named Karen, so to whom were they referring? He said not to worry, the woman I first spoke to was simply flustered. I told him I didn't understand why I needed to come in to sign papers, as I had already signed all of the releases at the hospital. He said he had called my cell phone the day before and left a message about signing the release form. I told him that was impossible, because I DO NOT have voice mail set up on my cell phone. He then said he also left a message on my home phone; however, there was no message from him on my home phone either. He was simply a liar. By this point I was really worried; numerous mistakes and you can't un-cremate someone if they didn't get it right! I told him that frankly I had very little confidence in their mortuary or their services. I called the hospital to put a hold on my mother's body, because the last place I wanted her to go was to Custer Christiansen Mortuary. Custer Christiansen was incredibly inept - they didn't even know who they were talking to (they kept calling me Karen), repeatedly talked about cremation and then lied about leaving voice mail messages. I shudder to think what would have happened had I gone with their services! Instead, I went on Yelp and searched for the best funeral services in the San Gabriel Valley (they're located in Pasadena). The new mortuary I selected was extremely professional in every way, with great attention to detail; they did not make any mistakes. There is enough stress when planning a funeral without having to worry whether your mother will be accidentally cremated. DO NOT USE CUSTER CHRISTIANSEN MORTUARY - they were so inept and dishonest it was absolutely frightening! read more

Our experience with Custer-Christensen took a difficult situation, the death of our relative, and made it much worse and more stressful that it already was. We are very unsatisfied with the treatment and service we received. The casket was brought in 5 minutes before the memorial service was to begin while people were already seated. Gloria and Sharon were very unkind, rude and uncooperative to our family during a difficult time. They did not communicate with family members or return phone calls. They charged for funeral services that they did not provide. They said people were there to greet our guests, which just didn't happen. read more
