I purchased a used jacket online that arrived with torn, embroidered details. I called several shops in San Jose to see if they would restore the jacket, and after I sent them pictures of the embroidery, I was immediately turned down because a shop would not offer repair services, or because the damage was considered too difficult to fix. Losing hope to get the jacket restored, I was recommended to speak with Lenny, the head of the shop at Apparel by Susan Kay's. Not only did Lenny offer repair services, he was confident that the repairs would be done "the right way". I brought the jacket down to Lenny in person, where I instructed him that I wanted to have this repair done in such a way that would leave the satin lining of the jacket untouched. He reassured me that this was possible, and gave me a week deadline for the jacket to be fixed. Lenny followed through with his deadline, and considering the 'before' state, I was extremely happy with the results. The repair makes the jacket as a whole look nearly new. Sure enough, the lining was left untouched as I requested. On top of the quality work, I was charged with (in my opinion) a reasonable invoice of $56--a fair price considering the labor, special instructions, and turnaround time. If you need any embroidery jobs or repairs done the right way, Lenny is your guy. His work speaks for itself. read more

After calling countless places to get someone to embroider a cape I ended up being referred to Custom Apparel by Susan Kay's! This place is on San Carlos right off the 87and close to the 280 and street parking out front. The steel doors makes you unsure if this place is welcoming the public haha. I was given a team cape and I wanted to embroider it. I wanted it to be simple, pretty, and not over the top expensive. This place fit exactly that. I called and spoke to Lenny and asked if they would work with it and he was so nice about it. He asked me type of fabric it was, what color, what I wanted to put on it and I was able to get an approximate quote. I liked how he quoted 20 bucks and it ended up being 18! That's always the appropriate thing to do to quote higher and be cheaper in person! I turned it in Monday evening and got it Wednesday! A quick turnaround. I would definitely recommend this place if you need from one item to hundreds of items to customized, personalize- screen print or embroider. I can't wait to show my cape to my teammates! read more

When looking for an embroidery shop, a friend of mine told me to go see Lenny at Susan Kay's for my business shirts. I did and sure glad I made the trip from Fremont down to San Jose as it was well worth it. My first trip I took my idea with some pdf's. He took it from there and had my idea worked up and he emailed me the preliminary art work. I made some suggestions and he worked with it. A couple weeks later the shirts were done and look great! Ouch- dropped off a set of stockings and an Easter basket liner in the last week of May. Upon returning the next week, the owner told me my things weren't finished, but the job would certainly be done by the following Monday. I just returned today, five weeks later, to find my job still hasn't been finished. The very sweet woman who was manning the store was overly apologetic and tried to convince me to leave my things there, but I will clearly be heading to another business.
