We have nothing but accolades for Mike Martinez and Custom Door Boutique. After years and years of searching for the right front door for our home, we finally found the one person who could make our dream door come true. Our house came with typical tract home doors. When we decided to replace them, we shopped around for a long time. We tried the big box store first and were surprised to learn that our doors were not the typical standard size. We were told about 95% of prefabricated doors were not available in our size. Of the 5% that would fit, none were to our taste. We realized that if we wanted something we liked, we would have to have it custom designed, created and installed. Our next step was to drive through various subdivisions looking at front entry doors trying to find the design that "spoke" to us. We loved the 8-panel doors we saw and decided the center panel should be replaced with a design of beautiful colorless stained glass that still offered privacy. Our next step was to look for the best person or company for the job. Finding that special artist took time. At last, we found Custom Door Boutique. We were pleased that this company is small, locally owned and not part of any conglomerate. We spoke with Mike Martinez, the owner. He came out and we were (and still are) extremely impressed with his knowledge, professionalism, kindness, fairness and his ethics. He did all the work. We discussed what we wanted and he came up with a proposal that was very agreeable to us. Regarding our glass design, we chose to design our own. Mike said that was doable (and at no extra cost). All we had to do was give him a drawing or sketch of what we wanted. We found a few patterns we really liked and incorporated them, allowing one pattern to flow into the other. Mike took our design for the door and glass and worked on putting them together. He sent us the pictures/drawing/sketches of what it would look like. Once we gave the okay on that, we had to settle on the color stain for the door. (By the way we had chosen a wood door and got to pick the type of wood.) Mike provided us with several examples of different shades of the stain we had chosen. It took us awhile to decide which stain it would be because we kept checking all the samples at different times of the day and evening, both inside the house and in front. When we gave Mike our final okay, the process of making our beautiful door began. A custom door, if you want it done right, takes time and patience. It took a few months for everything to come together and the custom stained-glass panel to be created. In May 2022 our beautiful doors were installed. Mike is a perfectionist and his doors will be a perfect fit with no gaps. Mike is a true artisan. We highly recommend Mike Martinez and Custom Door Boutique. Even if you have an issue with a door he did not install, Mike is your friendly, helpful neighbor who is the right person to call. When I finally did an inquiry, Michael responded right away. He came out just a few days later to discuss my vision and followed up with a quote one day after his visit. He really listened to me and incorporated all the features that were important to me. He even had innovative suggestions to accommodate the look and feel that I wanted that I had not even considered. I also liked that he presented a few cost effective options for me. After I chose to move forward, he had a full CAD drawing to me about 10 days later. After receiving HOA approval, the doors themselves took about 2 months to manufacture, but Michael was great about staying in touch and being super responsive when I asked for updates. It felt like it took forever BUT they were so WORTH THE WAIT. When the doors did come in, Michael was able to schedule a date to install them less than a week later. The actual install was just one full day. It was just in the nick of time too, just two days before our Housewarming :) Michael was great. He emailed us care instructions a day later. That is something I really appreciate in a contractor - quick, frequent, consistent, and clear communication. I am so incredibly happy with our doors. My favorite feature is that the top part of the doors can open and let the breeze in without the bugs. The frame and the hinges all operate so smoothly. The doors are truly beautiful. Look no further for having your door installed...Mike, at Custom Door Boutique, is who you want to hire! Why? 1) He's the owner and installs all doors personally. This is huge! Other companies make promises, but he delivers. Because he is the owner/operator, it might take longer to get you're door installed. But, it's going to be installed correctly the FIRST time, not the third time (like our previous experience with Lowe's/Home Depot). 2) Mike only does doors. Yes, this makes him an expert that you can trust. He told us what he needed and to do, possible challenges, and how he'd make everything work. Having had doors installed before, they are not easy. Trust me when I say, you want to have Mike do this for you. 3) He has the added benefit of having his expert door installer, his dad, work with him. This was awesome as we had 2 experts working to replace & install our new door. 4) Mike picked up our door and delivered it to our house. I never had to deal with the company in ordering the door (I found ours at Home Depot). He ordered it and charged us what he paid for the door - no upcharge for this personal service saving us hours! I postponed writing what I would tell you is a well-deserved review from someone who doesn't generally take the time to write. that said and unlike others, I tend to write when I am thrilled and refrain from writing when I am disappointed. I believe it not only helps the business but helps people looking for a reputable resource. In our instance, we replaced a solid front door that was twenty-seven years old with a gorgeous custom glass and iron front door. In addition, we placed a similarly old and tattered side gate with a custom fitted half door that is equally wonderful. Though the process was lengthy from start to finish, it was well worth the wait and Mike did his best to push the fabricator to finish so he and his Dad could install. That said, it was unique and, in our case, fortunate to find someone that offers a great custom selection as well as does his own measurements and install. In short, it saves time and money compared to buying the door from a manufacturer and having someone else doing the install. In addition, it prevents an errors or finger pointing if things do not go as plan. Mike owns the process from start to finish and in the end, we could not be happier with the outcome. He was professional throughout and lest an issue with the manufacturer for which he did resolve, he installed two perfectly installed doors with gorgeous hardware, iron, and glass. I reached out to Mike for a custom front door and he originally quoted me double my budget. But he spent time to work with me and created a door that is almost identical to the picture I sent him that my husband and I love. He knows the wood and has great recommendations. We had a tight timeframe and he made it happen. He's fast and efficient, but he also really takes the time to make sure it's exactly what you want. I was always able to reach him if I had questions or changes and as soon as he had the door ready, he came out and installed. Because we had a sub coming right behind him, we didn't have time to stain the door before install. Mike was willing to help us find someone to stain and seal the door, and when we used our contractor's painter, he made sure to seal the top and bottom for us so we didn't need to worry about pulling off the door or having issues getting to any parts of the door that needed to be sealed. I was excited to find these guys based on the reviews here, but what a let-down. On Wednesday 8/16/17 I called and Mike answered. He was pleasant and said he was picking his son up from school and would call me back the next day. I emailed him a picture of the door and all my information since he was on his cell at the time. Then nothing. I waited until Thursday 8/24 and emailed him asking him to let me know if he was not interested in the job. He emailed back the same day: "I owe you an apology. I am absolutely interested. Your email went down the list and I didn't follow up with you. I am very sorry. I will get on it this weekend and have some options for you asap." On the 29th, he emailed me to apologize again and say he was still working on it. I emailed him back and said quality was more important than speed so it was okay. On the 30th, he emailed me thanks for understanding and said he'd have options to me that day. On the 31st I got this: "I have to be honest with you, I have been buried under an avalanche of work. I am by myself and I am so sorry it has taken this long for me to get you the information you need. The best I'm going to be able to do for you is something this weekend, most likely on sunday. I hope that's ok and I'm sorry but this is the best I can do at this stage of my business where I'm alone." And then I never heard from him again. Anyone who is that flaky during the initial talks is not likely to be someone who does good work, so I suppose I dodged a bullet here and should thank him. His business is old school; he does the estimate, design, manufacture, and installation all in one place and his pricing is reasonable. We wanted a door with windows that would light in, yet still have privacy, and we wanted a door that was a "statement".
