They went above and beyond and we are so happy with our new windows! Prepare for a lengthy and detailed review for an amazing company and experience. But basically, I 110% recommend getting your windows or any service with Custom Exteriors! So first... I didn't realize how much we needed to redo our windows, but wow- we can already feel a HUGE difference since fixing them. Our house is so much cooler now after getting our windows replaced and now we don't have to run the AC as much as before! Even in 90+ degree weather, we don't have to run our AC... unheard of, right? We are now looking forward to cheaper PG&E bills. I honestly wish we did it sooner and didn't wait so long to get them done. Not only does it look so much better, but we can already tell so much of a difference in our house. The staff: Phenomenal! Every employee we spoke to was so amazing. David Lopez and his installation team were professional and gave excellent customer service! David came over and educated my mom on the windows. He did an experiment and showed my mom that her old windows let in 150 BTU. He used a BTU meter and a radiometer to show her the difference between clear glass, standard low E3, triple pane, R-13 insulation and Delmar. Anlin Delmar measured 5 BTU. Triple pane measured 80 BTU. David was very detail oriented and made my mom feel so confident and secure in choosing Custom Exteriors. He spent a lot of time with her which she appreciated. My mom met with a few other companies but felt very happy with her decision to go with Custom Exteriors. They presented the best product, price and service. Jose and the installation crew were amazing. The crew took down the blinds, moved heavy furniture, cleaned up after, and were very efficient. I had to work in my office during the entire time & I was afraid it would disrupt my work. Not the case at all though! They worked around my schedule and made sure I was able to still work. The crew was very professional and did an amazing job. David and Csar (management team) came out to personally check on the progress during the installation and to make sure we were taken care of. The customer service was truly remarkable and I really appreciated everyone going above and beyond for us. We hired Custom Exteriors to replace all the old windows in our house. David Lopez is an excellent representative who took time to listen to our needs and make recommendations based on them. We went with Anlin windows. We signed up in Dec'21 and were informed right away to expect at least 11-12 weeks for the order to come in due to systematic delays. We were kept well informed on the status of our order during the waiting process. The crew came in exactly on the promised date and were considerate and well coordinated during the installation process. One of the windows that came in had the wrong glass treatment on it. It was noted by the crew and they reinstalled the correct design after a couple of weeks. Well good luck getting Custom Exteriors to fulfill the promise on their warranty for your roof. One of the reasons we worked with Custom Exteriors in the first place was the 10 year warranty on the roof. Well here we are trying to get our roof repaired by Custom Exteriors. My first phone call was early in May, got a call from their salesperson that I would get a call, didnt happLeft another message two weeks later, got a call (!) saying the repair person would call. One week later repair called and would show up, which they did. But, the person said he didn't have the repair supplies he needed but he would return. Made another appointment for this weekend for the repair person to show up, but I received a message that they won't come and he is leaving the country! Unfortunately the windows themselves were delayed due to supply chain issues impacting everyone right now, so I had to wait a few months from time of contract to installation. This is a 1 Star review that I changed to 2 Stars after realizing that I was likely done a big favor by this company cancelling on me. I called Custom Exteriors last week, and scheduled an appointment for a stucco estimate. The representative whom I spoke with oddly lead the conversation, stating that they only did jobs with a $5,000 and 500 sqft minimum. Isn't the purpose of an estimate to ascertain this detail? It seemed as though I had to convince him to schedule someone to come out for an estimate. A week later, about an hour ago, I received a call from this same, odd, person. He cancelled the appointment and stated that I should hire a painter or a handyman instead. Painter? ....handyman?? For stucco. I called back, bewildered, and asked to speak with the owner to give him an account of my interaction. I will no longer consider giving this company my money, but an owner needs to know when he has employees that cost him business in such a way. We did research on door installers and finally selected Custom Exteriors. Like other reviews, there are pros and cons to this company. It seems no one communicates within the company (sales, installation, production lead etc.). This has been very frustrating since we began communication with Sales in February. That went relatively smoothly selection, options etc. Once we selected the door the follow up has been little, it's been me asking for information. The sales guy told us once the guy came out to measure (it's a double front entry) that they would begin the order. They offered to order primed samples for us to start testing stains (we bought primed doors) before we received our doors, which I thought was really nice of C. To start, NO ONE ever emailed/communicated to us to tell us the door was actually ordered. I had to ask them. He then told us that it would arrive Mid March, due to covid. No problem, we understood, life is different right now. The date came and went with no call and no follow up. 10 days after our ETA my husband called and the sales guy routed us to the Production guy, Michael. He said our door (assuming only 1) was damaged in transit & they had to get it repaired and that would be longer. We understood things happen, the thing is NO ONE called us to tell us this. No one ever picked up the phone to tell us what the damage was (we still don't know) . Installation day finally arrives. Installers are absolutely professional and covid safe. The guy showed us how to use our 3 point locking system as its very new to us, so we were talking for a good 20 minutes on how the lock engages on top, bottom etc. I asked again about our samples of primed wood since the sales guy said we would received them on installation day. That did not happen, no samples. They leave. Later that day my husband was inspecting the door. He noticed a fairly large gap at the bottom of the door, the bottom hinge was bent and did not properly engage, I then noticed the scratched and nicked up plate. My husband emailed both Michael and Tanner with the information and no one responded. Sales does not just make sales, they need to be involved until the end of the transaction to make sure the customer is happy. Now if I was the owner of this company I certainly would not like these things noted at the end of a QUALITY installation. I have attached a picture of the plate they installed. This is something you DON'T install on brand new doors costing thousands of dollars and just leave. They installer should of noticed the scratched up plate, noted it and told us he would have a new one ordered. Nothing was said to us. E-mail was sent on Friday, Michael called me Monday to send installers back to fix the issues. I asked Michael if he saw the picture of what they installed, in our e-mail no, he had no idea what I was referring to. They came out within 30 minutes. The original installers came back, and he saw the bottom pin was crooked and not engaging correctly. (why did he not see this on installation day? quality check.) The door plate he said that will happen its normal wear and tear. That is fine but let it happen after many times of opening my door, not at install. He is reordering the pin and the plate and he fixed the opening issue on the bottom. Still no call or e-mail on our door samples nor confirmation that these items have been ordered and when they will come back The process of ordering was so easy that I jumped the gun and referred Custom Exteriors to my friend. She ordered her door, I hope she does not have the same issues we did as its been frustrating. We try and support local which is why I am writing this. Hopefully they can work on customer service and work as a stronger team. So at the end of the day, sounds like the teams all work independently of each other which makes it hard on the customer. They should be following up with us not vice versa. So now we wait another couple weeks for the new pin and plate to be replaced. Custom Exteriors is very responsive and they have excellent follow through. I called them because a neighbor used them a year or so ago and highly recommended them. We had an in home visit with David Lopez within three days of the call which was made on the weekend! David was an excellent rep, he took the time to listen and explain the products and the process they follow from order to finished installation. The brand he showed us was the best we had seen so far in terms of quality and features we wanted. We were asking for new construction so it involved removal of trim, removal of old window, new window prep, install and finally install of trim with a wood based resin impregnated product and sealing to paint ready. When we got the bid, it was substantially more than we expected and twice what our neighbor had paid. David explained the reasons and even provided a sample showing what the neighbors home would have been priced at if done today. I also did some industry research and found that David had explained the reasons for the increases accurately. Many economic factors created a situation that is driving prices up to levels not seen. Covid, remodeling demand, glass prices, supply chain issues, general inflation and cost of labor. In the end we decided to wait out the perfect storm in the hopes that prices may go down in the future. It is a gamble that we decided to take based on our financial situation. Will it pan out? Only time will tell but when we are ready, we will go back to David and Custom Exteriors to get the work done. During this process we did not feel pressured at any point. David Lopez came to give us an estimate and what impressed us most was the fact that he didn't try to sell us a full house refurbishment, although we were prepared to do so. David was thorough, explained everything clearly, and offered us what we thought was a very fair estimate. The crews that came to do the work were professional, very tidy, and efficient. Custom Exterior office support was exceptional from start to finish. There was one small problem with the new front door, the lock was supposed to be keyed to our existing key. When this didn't happen, David Lopez had a locksmith at our house within the hour and he followed up until the issue was resolved. The city inspector was very impressed with all the work performed, and signed off without any issues. I am very pleased with how the whole process worked from beginning to completion. Everyone was courteous and professional and made it a point to return my calls/emails/texts expeditiously. The windows are magnificent and they also did a door inside that is beautiful.....to almost the point that I want all the doors done now. At any rate, Kevin Gundry, the owner always followed up and answered questions about the warranty and energy-saving features. The workers were most polite and the foreman demonstrated how to open and close/lock windows and how to clean them. All in all, I would recommend Custom Exteriors: their quality of material and attention to detail are tops and the personnel from the workers to the owner were exceptional. okay. we have been working with these guys since February. Pros: From the get go, we really liked Paul who came out to our home and went over the different kind of work that they could offer us. He wasn't your sleazy businessman, but seemed honest, ethical, and to the point. He won us over. We really liked working with Ryan and his crew when we got siding done on the front of our house. Ryan was super honest and gave us the best recommendations, and when we were unsure about the number of inches for the trim, he actually drew it out with pencil and made sure we were okay with it, before proceeding. Ryan is definitely top notch and cares about customer service. We ended up requesting custom exteriors to continue to have Ryan work with us to finish the siding job (he had been called for another job, and some other guy was supposed to finish the job). The siding looks great --- no complaints whatsoever about this process. he never complained about his insane commute either. i think it took him 3 hour or so that morning. Cesar was responsive throughout the process, which was really helpful, as there were a lot of conversations to be had. That being said, we did have one issue that came up (refer to cons section). At the end of the day, victor (the stucco guy) made the stucco look good --- texture looked on point, leveling was even and smooth, and everything was flush with our windows. Cons: oohhhkay. It basically felt like your typical "we have a great person to sell you our business, and then once you agree, we'll give you lower quality!" total mixed bag of professionalism. it almost felt like working with two different companies. So, we needed stucco work done and they needed to prepare everything for the inspection for the permit, which we paid them to do. i didn't think much about it. then we got a call. we DIDN'T PASS THE INSPECTION. i'm obviously pretty frustrated by this (sorry about the caps, guys). We pay these guys to make sure that we pass, and then because of the lack of attention to detail, we didn't. which delayed the process for about a week. I recommend that you speak spanish. Fortunately, I do, so i could communicate with Victor and his crew. if you don't, you'll have to do a lot of back and forth with Cesar (the project lead) on the phone, and things will take a long time. So for the stucco work, they used these materials that are supposed to be "quick drying", but honestly, i'm not sure about the quality. again, at the end, the final product looks fine and the texture looks good. but it got to that point because we had to point out that one month after their application of the stucco, there were cracks already in the stucco (!). Unfortunately, the stucco work was initially not level at all (they did fix this, in the end). We received repeated requests for us to pay them for the rest of the work, and we held firm to our boundaries and said we would gladly do so, once the work is complete and on par with our expectations. when Cesar came over, instead of apologizing for the cracks in the stucco, our difficult time with Victor and his crew, or simply empathizing, he made excuses for why the stucco wasn't level and blamed it on our windows. eventually, he agreed to have victor come by and fix the stucco work (which he did). Victor and his crew, and even Cesar (once), would typically show up without any phone call in advance. For example, they told us that they would give us a call when they were 30 minutes away from our place. yesterday, they were supposed to come between 8 and 9 AM. no phone call. they arrived at 7:30 AM. which is typically fine, but I wasn't feeling too well, and needed all the sleep possible. Do i recommend these guys? only if you are doing siding. and if so, request Ryan and his crew. need stucco work? go elsewhere, unless you're bored as all hell and don't mind managing Victor and his crew for months at a time. read more

Update 03/19/15 to my earlier review: Although CE sent an individual (whom I won't name) to come to our place to get our inspection passed, and this person called my husband to apologize for dropping the ball once we wrote the Yelp review, it was very disappointing to see the discarded painters tape thrown over our balcony onto the flower bed below - see pictures. (This was used to help keep the stucco filler off the window.) How difficult is it to pick this up and throw this away versus just throwing it over the edge? Also, there was stucco on the inside handle of our white slider, which I had to spend time scratching off. Another point - this individual said the stucco would dry and match the color of our existing stucco...well, it's dried and it's stark white in comparison to our cream stucco so it stands out. Clearly, this doesn't match. All in all, it's about service when you have a choice of vendors and this was not the 5 (or even 4) star service you'd expect. Again, Jeff was very nice during the initial sales cycle and I'm sure the business would benefit if the service received after the sale reflected the upfront sales cycle. The overall lack of care of the installation and afterwards (it's as tho they don't really care about your time or your property) was still disappointing and I really can't justify improving my rating beyond a 2 at best given this experience after the sale. read more

This is a schizophrenic review. On the one hand the estimate, measuring, and ordering part was fine, and although it was pricier than another estimate, it seemed more professional. And when the windows arrived and were installed, it was nicely done and they really reduced our summer heat problem. An early warning sign was that there was no contact at all after I signed for six weeks. Nobody called to say anything was delayed, or suggest a possible time frame. Finally I called and was given an installation date, after some confusion explained as the installation manager having my phone number wrong. That was in July. The windows went in quickly and were functional, but the job was not done until October. We went with the construction option instead of replacement tilt-ins, and it was the stucco / paint / caulk part that was the problem. It was really just a management problem on "the small stuff" and I should emphasize that the windows themselves were in and perfectly functional right on time. I hope reviews by others in the future will show that the problems are fixed. If I need more windows done, I would definitely consider this company, if they fix this management problem. read more

Got windows from this place as I was happy with their work They got it done in a day and that was a real perk The whole process took a little bit of time so be aware give your self several weeks buffer just to be fair I had to install some windows at my place and they did a great job. The estimator came out, I put a down pay, they ordered the windows. The only thing was that the guy told me they would call me to tell me when they would expect the windows, I had to call them for this, but once Kevin called me back, he kept getting me updates which I was really appreciative of. He then made sure that the work would be done at a time that would be convenient. This review is long over due! Custom Exteriors transformed our home. We discovered that the reason for visible water damage on our home was because the siding was failing and had been recalled. I'm very disappointed with Custom Exteriors. First of all, I contacted them, and explained the project. I was told in order for the company to consider my stucco bid it would have to be a minimum of 500 sf. I told the guy on the telephone I had about 450 sf two stories, but was also interested in 5 new windows, a french door for my patio, and he said it would make up the difference of the 500sf minimum. We scheduled an appointment for Thursday, Aug. 2nd. I met with Paul Kaplan seemed to be a friendly person. We discussed my needs made his notes, and promised to work out the details of my project and cost. Today, I received an email telling me the owners chose not to bid on my project, and apologized for wasting my time. I was upset and contacted their office, and spoke with David, said he would get to the bottom of the issue and call me back. After receiving David's phone call and explaining why they chose not to bid on my project. He said my project was way too big and they we're afraid they couldn't complete it on time. They don't subcontract, but after reviewing at the website seems they sub contract out to roofers and plumbers. I don't believe this poor explanation and I find it very disturbing because they have a minimum of 500 sf of stucco. Initially I was afraid it wasn't enough. The explanation is not consistent with the reviews I read online and the stucco work other customers have received. I personally don't recommend this company because it seems they pick and choose their customers. I'm also surprised I didn't hear from one of the owners since the only time they respond is if they get a bad review and go out of their way to make it right. Sincerely, a potential disappointed customer. P.s. I'm just glad I didn't mention I also need a complete roof replacement, otherwise the job would go way over your head. Custom Exteriors is one of the top contractors I've ever dealt with during my 44 years of home ownership. In 2014 CE installed Anlin windows throughout our house, a major renovation effort. The installation workmanship was impeccable and the customer service even better. Responsive, prompt, courteous, with a focus on the customer and an emphasis on quality -- these corporate traits flow through the organization from the owner/founder Jeff Kendall, who explained what to expect during the project and made sure the follow through and service provided by his staff were top notch. He has consistently amazed us with these qualities in the 5 years since our window installation. In late 2016 we had our concrete patio replaced and during the demolition the landscaper caused pitting damage to several of our large Anlin windows (including the patio sliding door). Remarkably, Custom Exteriors, which had not been involved in the patio replacement work, came in and replaced the pitted windows under the warranty, without charging us anything for labor or for the windows! In early 2019 I contacted our insurance company about a rain leak that was either coming from our sliding glass door or possibly a gap in the stucco wall close to the door but not related to the glass door installation (which Custom Exteriors had done in 2014). A vendor sent by my insurance company performed a leak test and inspection and cited the door to be the leak source, not the gap. Hoping CE might fix the leaking door, I contacted them. CE sent two workmen who did their own inspection. They concluded that the previous inspectors were incorrect and the stucco gap was causing the leak, not the sliding glass door. To prove their claim, they repaired the gap and showed me with a garden hose that the leak was gone. No more leak. They refused to let me pay them. And when I told Jeff Kendall I wanted to pay CE something, he refused to take any payment. If you want a window company for a major job, Custom Exteriors is without peer. Just to make sure this is not one off case - it's systematic issue of this business buyers beware !!!

In 2020 I had custom exteriors come out to install a new front door. They did such a great job that I had them back to replace all the windows on my house about a month ago, the kicker is that their quote was substantially less than the competition. During the install the crew worked around my schedule and needs. They interacted with my toddler from outside the house and always went above and beyond to ensure that I was happy with their work. They even helped with a window install for a local family member in the same quote. I would highly recommend them and would definitely use them again for any future projects. I love the door and windows that they installed and it was well worth the cost. read more

I made an appointment with Custom Exteriors to get a better idea of what they offer and the entire experience with the owner and staff was amazing throughout. Kevin greeted me with a warm smile and proceeded to show me his windows, doors, and siding options that were very diverse and beautiful! He also spent a decent amount of time educating me on the different materials which I felt was a great touch, so that homeowners are able to make smart investments for their home. They're the #1 choice for window and door installs at Rossmoor because of their familiarity with the rules and procedures there and handling most of the irksome paperwork with Rossmoor and the city of Walnut Creek. Custom Exteriors is awesome!! I put new windows and a sliding glass door in my home in 2009 and I am so glad I choose Custom Exteriors. First problem I ever had was four days ago when one of my vertical windows in my kitchen would not lock. Seems that I bent the lock when I tried to close the window in the lock position. Ryan came out this morning and changed the lock with no problem! He also changed the lock on my sliding glass door because it was getting a little hard to lock; at no cost to me!
