This was my first occasion to go to Custom House under the new ownership and management. Fantastic lunch. I brought my wife and two daughters. The food was delicious and prepared with love and care. I'm in brockport at lest one's a week and have been meaning to check this place out, it's a beautiful tavern Lake restaurant with a basement bar overlooking the Erie Canal. Service was amazing and amazing recommendations. It was a Friday so I asked about the fish fry and I talked about how I liked it. Nice and crispy. When it came out, it was perfectly cooked and excellent crispy. You could definitely tell the server pay attention to me talking and had the food cooked to my liking!! Wow, that was bad... No manager working, one "cook" who left alot to be desired. One waitress/ bartender. Zero flavor, except copious amounts of black pepper. Visited on a rainy Tuesday afternoon with a few people. Between us, we got the tacos (taco Tuesday, $3 tacos mix & match), a burger, grilled cheese, and the Hot Robbie sandwich. All of the food was excellent and hot. Portion sizes were more than enough to fill you up. Our server was friendly, attentive and offered helpful suggestions. A couple of people were being loud at the bar, but not too distractingly so, and it is a bar so what do you expect. Lovely dinner last night at Custom House. We're sailing down the Erie Canal and docked here for the night. Had cocktails, drinks, truffle fries, pizzas. All was very yummy! I'm not a huge fan of truffle fries, but theirs were not overly done on the truffle. Good pizzas - personal-sized. We sat upstairs in the dining room which was very nice. There is also a bar area downstairs. Great view of the canal in both spots. Sage was our server and was helpful, cheerful, and attentive. We would definitely go again and had a great time! read more

We typically like it here for weekend brunches but recently this place has gone so downhill. We waited over an hour for our food and it came out cold and overall was not good. We barely ate anything and left to go somewhere else. They must have some serious management issues going on for there to only be one bartender for the entire restaurant. Up in Brockport for a fishing trip, after the long trip 8 hours, we decided on Custom House. First off their selection of a wide variety of bourbons were outstanding and reasonably priced! I ordered The Godfather sandwich, it consisted of slow cooked shredded beef, caramelized onions, cherry peppers and topped with provolone cheese on a great ciabatta roll. My choice for my side was an order of macaroni salad, it was a penne pasta salad with mayo, celery and bell peppers I was completely satisfied with my choice!! My simple poutine order took a little over 45 minutes. Not to mention that it was topped with overcooked bacon. It had its good moments. The drinks were good and the time to leave came. Pretty decent food. I had the onion soup which was delicious but the bread wasn't toasted so not great but okay. I liked sitting next to the canal, very pleasant. I'd like to go back on a rainy day because the vibe is nice. It's odd though that the online menu doesn't reflect the same items as onsite menu. I really wanted to try the crab dip but it wasn't on the menu there! The service was decent but she brought us the ticket without asking if we wanted anything else so had to have her change it so we could have another drink. Kind of felt like being shoved out the door because the waitress wanted to close out her shift which was off putting. Needed more cheese and other toppings. Second, the blacked shrimp tacos were lacking. If I order blacked anything i expect to see some seasoning. They looked like shrimp cocktail thrown on a tortilla. The waitress although friendly forgot a steak knife for my brother in law as well as his mashed potatoes. I understand a "special" menu.... But if you're going to overcharge, at least have better menu options and wine options with labels. Went there today with my girlfriend to catch up on the months events, very loud and service was extremely slow. Waitresses were super young (2) and quiet, to the point no one ever checked on us to see if all was ok. Ordered the Cookie skillet for dessert and waited so long for it to arrive to table, it was cold and ice cream soupy. Needed a spoon vs. a fork, asked for a spoon and never received it! The high point for my girls and me at Custom Houses were the appetizer teriyaki wings - a careful mix of sweet and spice. They came out hot with chunky blue cheese dressing on the side. I was also pleasantly surprised by the wedge salad - cold, crisp and fresh lettuce with crispy bacon, blue cheese dressing and diced tomatoes. Excellent!! The veggie and carnitas tacos were good, although the carnitas could have been slightly moister and the veggie tacos had more salt that she'd prefer. I so wanted to give this restaurant 4 stars tonight. I love what they've done with the downstairs bar area. The bar is huge. It has a nicer, updated, comfortable look. There are USB ports around the bar. The server/bartender was fantastic! Decent beer selection and pretty solid liquor selection. So many positives!! The food is really where things fell short. I order the Bahn Mi sandwich. I was looking forward to the big flavors of spicy pickles, pickled carrots, cilantro, and wasabi aioli. What I got was a couple regular pickle slices, a few specks of cilantro, no pickled carrots, and not enough wasabi aioli to taste it over the pork and baguette. The pork and bread were delicious but that doesn't make a Bahn Mi sandwich. My boyfriend got the Rueben. It had a slab of corned beef which was a bit chewy. His favorite part of the dish was the French fries. Which he said were some of the best he's had. It's such a great space. I really hope they can step their food game up a bit!! read more

This place has an outstanding selection whiskey. We tried a few kinds per the owners suggestion. The owner was very nice. I enjoyed his conversation and knowledge of the different whiskeys. We tried Four Roses, Heaven Hill and Pappy Van Winkle. Heaven hill was my favorite because it was smooth and a little sweeter than the others. We ordered food and it was OK , not the best. I got a Ruben with fries. The corn beef was good. it was seasoned and cooked well. The sauerkraut was so plan, no seasoning or anything. It was like they took it right out of the can or bag and put it on the sandwich. Plus it was only on one half of my sandwich so I had to wait for more to put on my other half. The wait was way to long for plan sauerkraut. The fries were good and crispy. My boyfriend got the loaded nachos. They were not the best. The brisket was very good and tender but they didn't season it with any Spanish/ Mexican flavors. It was just plan shredded beef. They only used a Mexican blend shredded cheese instead of nacho cheese too so when it got cold it turned hard. My 4 stars is for the great whiskey and our great conversation with the owner. read more

I've gotten food from this restaurant a few times over the years and every time it gets worse and worse. The last time I ordered a meal was "chicken French"... I can't even call it that. It was fried, not dredged, chicken over bow tie pasta that was 2 minutes to being Al dente, a sad lemon sauce and no escarole, which was supposed to be in the dish. It's an abomination. We've visited the establishment 3-4 times over the past 2 years. Each time is more disappointing than the last. Food is fine, typical pub food. Should you choose to try this place, give at least 2 full hours to have your order taken, then wait until your food comes out. We were there yesterday for lunch. We waited for 15 mins until the bar tender came to take our drink order: 2 iced teas and a water. 10 mins later, the iced tea arrived and it was basically colored water. 10 mins after than, she came to take our meal order. We asked for something different to drink. My husband tried to order a beer. They were out of both of his first two choices, landed on a third, I ordered a club soda and we all gave out orders: a total of 3 burgers and fries. Our New drinks can over fairly quickly, a little over a half hour later, our food had not come, nobody stopped by our table to check on us or even to acknowledge the length of time we were waiting. I got up, and asked one of the servers if he could help find out where our food was (our original server was stuck behind the bar) he said he didn't know, he just got in and went into the kitchen to check. Coming out, He let us know 'the burgers are on the grill'. During the next half hour to 40 mins, we watched waitstaff, including our original server as they went by our table several times carrying orders to tables seated after us. Again, never stopping to see how we were, let us know what was happening. We understand kitchens get behind, servers get over seated, things happen, but the fact that not one person acknowledged our table or how long we had been there was the last straw. Took over an hour for our food to get to our table. Our server said the kitchen was "Busy" but there's a few people downstairs and outside. If they were all upstairs I wasn't aware but the upstairs isn't that large either. Also saw 4 groups of people go up after we sat down downstairs so if they got their food before us then that's even worse! Oil is bad and makes the food taste horrible. Chicken was dry. Food is bland!! Pretty sure they forgot to put our order in and try to make it up. I tried to save a local business that could be affected by the bridge closure but we will never be back!!
