He adjusted the shoulders, chest, sleeves, lapels, which required him to move every single button. It was literally a completely different suit. And for the first time, it actually fit the way it should. Since then, I've gone back for five custom suits, multiple shirts, and my favorite, an overcoat (which I'd avoided for years because of off-the-rack fit issues). Every item has come out perfectly tailored. If fit has always been a compromise for you, it's worth seeing what Gabriel can do. Adding some photos, but I'm not a fashion/textiles photographer. I should have read more into the negative ones before using him. A suit to me is an investment and it's really important that tailors take their job professionally. I came in to The Bespoke Clothier after doing some research as I needed a suit altered for an upcoming wedding. I had 2 weeks before the event which I felt was plenty of time for the job. I made an appointment with Gabriel for a consultation to look at the suit and discuss timing and needs for alterations. No real dressing room, just a closet that you can change in. He looked at my suit and made recommendations for the sleeves to be taken in and shortened and pants let out a bit on the waist. I also asked about adding surgeons cuffs with functional buttons. Gabriel mentioned that it's really easy and they do that all the time but they charge per button. Understandable I said and agreed to the pricing. This was Tuesday and was told that the alterations would be complete by Friday. A busy Friday for me meant a pickup on Saturday which would have been perfect as their posted hours on their website says: Saturday 9am-5pm. When I arrived on Saturday to pick up the suit, the lights were out, door locked and a note posted saying "Flexible Hours" this week and to text a number. I texted the number which replied that they would check with Gabriel on timing and they would communicate back to me a time for pickup. No response through Monday evening and by Tuesday at noon, I was getting a little concerned about lack of communication and timing. I decided to call on Tuesday afternoon and Gabriel picked up and told me the suit will be ready by 3pm that day. I arrived at the shop at 3:30pm with the pants ready and the jacket looking disheveled and unfinished with the buttons popped off one of the sleeves and arms way too long. He said he thought I needed the sleeves lengthened and he marked it incorrectly. He said this is an easy and quick job for the jacket and it will be ready tonight. I decided to give him more time to do a good job and said let me pick up tomorrow afternoon. The next afternoon comes and the jacket looked fine but I noticed that the buttons were not functional. He said he didn't take the correct notes and thought I didn't want that even though I was charged extra per button. Again was told that it was an easy job as he does this "all the time" and he would be the one personally making the functioning buttons. Again was told he could do it tonight and I again gave him extra time to do a nice, clean job. The suit was ready with functioning surgeons cuffs but the workmanship was really poor. Also one of the buttons for the interior pocket was missing. The cut and sewing lines were really sloppy looking and the thread for the buttons were not sewing inside the lining, leaving the button thread visible on the cup to lining. I'm not sure if Gabriel just over promises and has to rush through everything but i think he knows better. Overall a stressful situation being almost a week overdue, multiple mistakes and a seemingly rush job to finish. At the initial meeting, Gabriel was also trying to sell me a custom suit which I was seriously considering at the time. Unfortunately this soured my experience and mindset that he would be capable of making a full bespoke suit.

In the past, I used to take sweaters with moth holes to a store in Bellevue Square, but that store has been gone for years. Therefore, I decided to use this cashmere cardigan to try. I was thinking because it's my favorite, even if it would be expensive, as long as it's done well I would be willing to pay. I walked into the store, and Victor was helping another customer. He was friendly and asked me kindly to wait a little bit. I looked around, and it seemed that he also made customized suits etc. Then I showed him my cashmere cardigan. I asked how much it would cost. He told me that each hole would be like $2-3, which was totally reasonable. When it's ready for pick up, Victor gave me a call. So awhile ago I had some trousers hemmed and a duffle coat and trench coat altered. At this time David took in alteration work outside his bespoke commissions (I understand that now he does made-to-measure, not true bespoke). His shop did a fine job, so I was pleased that when he decided not accept piecemeal alternation work from non-regular customers, he told me I would be an exception. I have just found out that he has reneged on this promise and will not do any alternations for me. As I'm sure many reading this will know, finding a good alternations tailor is difficult if not impossible in many areas of the US. I am fortunate that I make several trips to London every year so can have my alternations done there, but I cannot help feel aggrieved, especially as I went to some effort to promote David and recommended him to friends. High-end men's clothing is a small universe and one's reputation for integrity and honest dealing is all. For that reason, I cannot recommend this shop.

I gained a little weight over the Spring so I was looking for a few good pieces to update my wardrobe. JR was there. Very dapper guy. He was welcoming and offered a cup of coffee from his espresso maker in the back. We chatted about silhouettes, as he tried to see what I might really be interested in. He knew all the right questions to help me help myself. I made an appointment for later that week to design a suit for a big date I had scheduled for late Summer at Maryhill in Goldendale, my wine pickup party. I like to dress up for these things. Feels good to look good! I envied JR; he gets to dress up everyday for work. I work from home, so jeans and tee shirts are my regular attire. The appointment lasted about 1/2 an hour. JR showed me fabric books to pick the color and feel for my 2 piece suit. I found a nice wool, blue square pattern. The texture was the best part, kind of an open weave. Perfect for a late summer date! I picked up a new wallet and a pink shirt which I took home that day. Just as expected, JR called about 2 months later in August for me to test fit the new suit. It was perfect of course! I was stoked! Date at Maryhill was great too! Amazing wines, good food. Fabulous view. The drive was pleasant. My date loved it as well. To my surprise, I got jeans and sweater for my birthday which my date sourced at Harris & Tailor. They are Billy Reid jeans and the sweater is a Jach's NY Cardigan.
