CP was not the lowest estimate of quotes I received, but I decided to go with them due to the thoroughness of the prepared quotation, attention to detail in terms of what work needed to be done for restoration of trim and siding, and quality of paint to be used. In particular, he was not high pressured/pushy (hate that) but also very knowledgeable. His pricing was fair. Custom Painting, Inc. did a great job painting the inside of our house about five years ago. Recently we needed some areas primed and re-painted following drywall repair. We scheduled the painters a few weeks in advance, and got a reminder phone call a couple of days before the job was scheduled to start. Their crew arrived on time, despite the fact that on the first morning of the job the cross street closest to our home was partially shut down because it was being re-paved. Bad timing! The first morning, Mark Thissell, the president of the company (we think it was Mark) came to make sure everything was in order. One of the walls they re-painted is dark red, and Mark noticed the crew didn't have the correct primer. He sent one of the painters to the store to get the right primer. We really appreciate his professionalism. The painters did a fantastic job. All of the edges of walls that were painted are crisp and neat. We could tell they touched up some things that were not part of the job. For example, the inside of our front door is immaculate. Before they came, it had a few scuffs. We have a large, older home with expensive all-heart redwood siding that had been stained a few times before. The previous painters only powerwashed, but did not treat the redwood to remove soot and grime that had discolored the siding. I had gotten a few bids and I thought all of them were a bit high, but I choose to go with Norman at Custom Painting because he was flexible and came up with a scope of work/pricing package that seemed reasonable to me They only asked for a small deposit to get me on the schedule, which I thought was nice because other contractors often ask for at least 10%. Norman called a few days before start date to ask if they could start a day early! The crew showed up on time and got right to work. They did a meticulous job in washing down the siding and using a special detergent to get out the dark patches, and they were happy to oblige when I pointed out some areas I wanted them to re-do. I would not advise anyone to do business with Custom Painting. They provided us with a written quote and then refused to honor it after they realized they had made several mistakes. Initial written quote from Norman (Vice President) was $8,562. Revised written quote from Mark (President) was $12,050, less $1,000 discount. Although Mark accepted a call from me and let me express my dissatisfaction with the whole situation, he didn't seem too sympathetic and confirmed he would not honor the initial price quoted by his VP. I understand that mistakes are made and sometimes everyone needs to give a little, but I don't think their proposed resolution was fair and a lot of our time was wasted during the process. Business is easy to do when everything works out, but you learn a lot about a company when problems arise. read more

I hired Custom Painting 8 years ago, and just had them come back to paint my whole house again. They did an excellent job last time at a fair price, and guess what? Same results this time - house looks great, HOA is happy, and we're good for another bunch of years.
