We had a great experience with custom pool renovation. Greg came out early summer and we got a quote from him to resurface and redo our pool. They were not the least expensive, but Greg clearly knew what he was doing, what he was saying to us, and he explains it well. We felt that going with this team was the best option. They did a great job. In addition to the pool they pointed out code issues in our yard. And so we also had other people do other work to bring our yard up to code so that the pool and yard were safe for our grandchildren.. We just finished inspection today everything went well. The owner Doug explained everything during our initial visit. He was very thorough. His assistant Suze was so helpful and patient with me/us. She went out of her way to make us feel comfortable with such a major renovation. Mark, Doug's brother, was just icing on the cake! He and his crew worked very hard and efficient and took great pride in their work. They respected our home and our neighborhood at all times. I usually don't like to leave negative reviews just wanted others to learn from my experience. Doug came out, seemed knowledgeable about the work. Things fell apart when I started dealing with Suze - quote took a long time to arrive, emails and phone calls about questions went unanswered or promised return calls never materialized. Not sure I understand why a company comes out, goes through the time to put together a quote then doesn't seem to have the time or interest answering a few questions. A pool remodel is a big investment of time & $ for a homeowner. Doug repeatedly told me about the big $$ projects in they were doing in Ruby Hill, maybe my project was smaller than they wanted to be bothered with. Calling them out turned out to be a big waste of my time. read more

When you spend a lot of money, you do a lot of research. Great recommendations brought me to Custom Pool Renovations when I wanted to upgrade our 19-year-old pool. I first met with Don Cole who walked me through the process and options. My wife and I scoured the books and landed on a beautiful pebble tech color called Indigo Blue. We reviewed costs and authorized the start of the process. High-quality workers came in and hand chiseled the old plaster off (power chisel). Then the tile setters came in and in one day, laid all the tile for the walls, steps, and spa. Shortly thereafter, they sprayed the pool and filling the pool began. If that was all they did, I would give them a 5-star rating just for the work done. However, there was much more. Susan was so on top of everything and informed me with throughout the process of the next steps to come and guided me with all my questions. Don was amazing and then there was Mark. Mark is Don's brother and handled the removal and reinstallation of the pool cover, as well as expanding the opening of the island to handle a larger barbecue and installation of a bigger gas line. Everything was top notch and if that was it -- well, it wasn't. Mark asked me why the pump was not working. I told him I had a new pump installed and had 2 people out who had zero success in getting the motor to work. Power everywhere was good, but I only heard the relay go - no initiation of the motor. Mark was finishing the work he did (all amazing and professionally done) and began asking me questions. "Well, let's take a look," he said. He stayed over an hour checking the board, wiring and finally the panel. When he could not find out why it did not work, he called a friend in Livermore that specialized in our type of pool pump. For an additional 1/2, he listened and step-by-step, programmed the pump. And it worked! Having had multiple guys out here, all of which could not figure this out - though they tried, I really appreciated the fact that he took the time to figure out and fix something that had nothing to do with the job he was being paid for. That is so far above and beyond, I am not quite sure what to say. If you are thinking of renovating your pool, deck, spa or barbecue - there is only one place I will go in the future and that is Custom Pool Renovations in Livermore. We had a pretty good experience with these guys. There was a lot of back and forth on contracts and pricing since it was all done either via snail mail or they would send someone to drop off or pick up documents. Some small documentation and payment hiccups along the way but everything was resolved efficiently and professionally and ultimately that's what I care about. I don't have much experience with pool replastering but these guys were reasonably fast, cleaned up extremely well at the end of each day, were open to some small change orders etc. Not a huge job but still pretty expensive at $30K+ and I'm glad I didn't go with some of the other quotes. I rarely provide 'areas for improvement' in my reviews. They usually come out as criticism instead but in this case I truly feel that they are areas for improvement since everything else was pretty smooth: - There are a lot of options for finishes and tiles and there must be a better way to help customers make the right decisions - I actually wish there had been a bit more upselling ! Yeah. Seriously. I'm happy with what we ended up with but I think if we had known more when we started we would have built those changes into the contract - I was trying to replace pool equipment and add automation at the same time and they preferred referring me to another dealer/installer. I understand why since they're not local for me and call backs on that stuff are probably a pain. But I would have liked to go with just one installer - They provided some recommendations for pool startup and it would have been nice if it's something that could have been done as part of the contract because the startup is very important when it comes to the quality and long-term life of the pool finish. I understand that it's not practical since there may be 2 visits/day for a couple of weeks but it would have been nice that way accountability would be centralized read more

We are incredibly happy with the remodel of our 35 year old pool with Custom Pool Renovation. Doug, Suze, Mark and all of the crew involved with our project were terrific. We recently finished our pool re-surface complete with a new deck, patio and retaining wall. I'll have to find a picture to post because it is amazing. I didn't have to worry about a thing thru the whole process. My plumbing was all redone. The amount of hand work to carve and fit the coping around the pool was astounding to me. I just assumed it would have been automated somehow, but it wasn't. The coping all fits together beautifully and the edging is gorgeous. Custom Pool Renovation also put the veneer on my retaining wall. And by veneer I mean hand place rocks tiled onto a bare concrete wall (I had no idea what veneer was, I thought they were going to paint a weather retardant surface of some kind on the concrete). We are talking pure artistry. I am not very good at design/colors and I was worried about picking tile and veneer and having it all work together. Suze to the rescue!!! She came out with me to the masonry "quarry" for lack of a better word and led me thru the bins of rocks and helped me picked out something I liked that would work well in my yard with my oddly colored house. We then went to the tile store to pick tile that would match the veneer and the pool surface. She took a stressful situation for me and made it fun. The above are the parts that were a wonderful surprise to me. They also handled the business side of things flawlessly, everything functions perfectly and everything was on schedule. I knew when to expect people at my house and what they were going to do. Suze was also able to recommend THE BEST concrete and general contractor around to handle the deck and the build of my retaining wall. Shout out to Al at Aussie Crete! I can't say enough about the outstanding quality, price, service and attention to detail. First of all, Suze is amazing as a coordinator and counselor for these projects. They also have terrific Masons and the quality was impeccable. I had three different Masons on my project, and these guys were clearly head and shoulders above the rest. They build a retaining wall, fire pit, bench wall, pilasters, and a bunch of flagstone inlay. I compared prices and these guys were clearly the lowest. They went out of their way to put a special ignition starter in the fire pit that I had bought for no charge. When it turned out I had to add another wall, they gave me a great discounted price. Everything was done on schedule and communication was excellent. They even fixed a couple spots on a pre-existing project for free. I would not hesitate to use them for any stonework I had to do ever in the future. read more

An absolutely horrible experience with this company. Our association needed to replaster the pool this year. The Board started the process early to obtain 3 bids. Sadly, this was the only company who gave us a bid and it was about $10,000 more than what our Reserves said was needed.There were so many delays, some delays because of the rains. But, there was a 2-3 week delay because the company they subcontracted with had let go 50% of their workers due to a heat wave that lasted all of one week. The project was additionally delayed because they didn't anticipate installing new rails, per code. For a pool company, you'd think they would know this stuff. Then they would completely stop work until they received a progress check, sometimes delaying the project by days because they wouldn't even schedule the next work until after they had their check. Sadly, our property manager handed them their final check before all inspections were done because there were some outstanding issues. I don't believe that Suzie was very good at coordinating this project and I hope that our property management company has no plans to use them for any of their other properties that they manage. read more
