There's a reason I come here once a week. Partially because it's so close to my office (will be sad when we move soon...). But also because they make a solid bowl of Bun Bo Hue. The noodles shaped like pasta but much softer, yet retains a slight bounce to each bite. The beef is tender, as well as the pig's feet/pork hock (my favorite part). And of course, tying them all together in unison is the flavor of the broth, which warms you up inside and makes the sun shine again on a cloudy, rainy day. #371

Bun Bo Hue Special is AMAZING!!!! Love the family friendly feel this place has. Definitely coming back for this!

I heard Houston is known for Vietnamese food so I really wanted to try somewhere immediately when I landed even though it was about 100 degrees LOL. I found this restaurant nearby the Airbnb we were staying at which looked very promising. The location that my friends and I went to is located next to Almeda Food Mart and Tasty Cajun on Kingspoint Rd in South Houston. There is a parking lot with ample stalls. I believe there is another location closer to the city but unsure if they're owned by the same people. I got their Bun Bo Hue Dac Biet was also really good! The broth was a bit different from what I'm used to but in a good way. It had a little lighter yet nice deep flavor from the variety of meats/bones it was cooked with. Loved how much protein there was! It included pork blood, beef, steamed pork, and pork hock. Yum! For a small size, I was really impressed by how much I was given. Even the prices were crazy cheap compared to other restaurants I've been to outside of Houston! My friend got their Pho Dac Biet (combo) was really good! The broth was soooo good with tons of umami flavor that didn't taste too "clean" which I loved! And she had a ton of proteins too. Definitely a small mom-and-pop shop (two locations?) with amazing flavors! Known for their bun bo hue (hence their name) and didn't disappoint. Definitely will make a pit stop here if I'm ever in the area again!

I have been having bun bo hue in many places and this place just didn't hit the spot. Sure there were a lot of ingredients in there but the flavor wasn't there yet. And the broth wasn't hot enough

This is one of the best tasting Bun Bo Hue restaurants in the Houston area. The broth is fragrant and flavorful. It's so reasonably priced. The only complaint is that the soup should have a little more meat. This restaurant also serves pho and other traditional Vietnamese dishes.

Don't be fooled by the sketchy exterior, this place is definitely a gem. The bun bo hue here is delicious! I was a little thrown off when I saw the cost for a large bowl is $10, but that bowl is HUGE. They do not skimp out on anything so you are definitely getting your moneys worth. The small bowl for $8 is about the same size of a large pho bowl at any other restaurant. There's a small salad composed of cabbage and basil leaves and a couple of lime slices given to you to garnish your soup if desired. The interior of the restaurant is very clean and the service is friendly. I only subtracted a star because the eggrolls weren't that great. They came out within 1 minute of us placing our orders so I knew they were stale. They definitely tasted stale.

P8 was soo good by far best pho I've had yet

The best pho I have ever tasted and it's my go to place. They are very friendly and the restaurant is very clean.

"Com thit nuong dac biet" (combination broken steamed rice with grilled slice pork, shredded pork skin, fried egg, steamed pork cake, and soup broth) This is a family owned spot next to Almeda Mall. I go here for their bun bo hue or their rice plates. Pretty solid option if you're looking for vietnamese food

Great Service with VERY great food! A good place for any pescatarian out there! I had pho with shrimp, squid & fish balls as well as yummy shrimp spring rolls!

I got the bun bo hue special which had everything in it ( cabbage, herbs, blood, pork bone marrow, 2 different kids of beef ). I would have liked this dish a little more spicy. I would def come back and eat this dish but also try other dishes. I had the nuoc mat. It was delicious it does have a few different types of jelly in it and some black seeds. I would have preferred a little more grass jelly in my drink but other than that it was delicious. The bo luc lac was also very tasty to my surprise. The dish came with about 8 small cubes of beef ( wished there was a few more cubes) and a side of rice. I heard that the Banh beo and com ga was good here. I got to the restaurant at 7:30pm and those dishes was sold out ( they close at 8). I spoke with someone who worked there and they told me that they only make a certain amount of Banh beo and com ga daily and it usually runs out at 1-3 pm. I will be back to try these dishes.

Not many restaurants in Houston offer Takowasa, which is marinated raw octopus with wasabi; and when we find one that does, it's our must order for appetizers. We also ordered the chicken karaage and agedashi tofu. The karaage was juicy and slightly larger than the size of popcorn chicken. The tofu was soft and lightly battered, however the downside is that it gets soggy quickly since it's sitting in the sauce rather than on the side. For our entrees, we got the carbonara, curry tonkatsu rice, niku tama ankake, and kakuni udon. The carbonara was nice and creamy. The curry rice tastes exactly like the Japanese box curry. The niku tama is more of a thicker soup base similar to egg drop soup, however has a more slightly sweet umami flavor. The kakuni udon had a lighter broth with braised pork belly. The service was a bit slow here, but we didn't mind it too much. The interior had a cute traditional Japanese style decor. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and we'll be back to try other udons.

Before their recent expansions to Austin, it all began here in Rice Village exactly 15 years ago. The vibes are contemporary and casual, with the kind of space that fits for just about any scenario. Whether it's a solo meal, a lunch date, or a group led affair, the experience is almost always an excellent one. Start by ordering at the counter and find a seat where the food will brought directly to the table. So much of their variety caters to all sorts of dietary restrictions from vegan to gluten free to nut free. Their spicy crispy brussels sprouts ($10) are a nice starter, as is the squash "onion" rings ($12). The local power bowl ($16) is a classic and I've always enjoyed the brown rice and quinoa combo. Their chicken "posolé" is solid, and I love the large hominy bits along with the clear but green tint of a broth. The chicken shawarma bowl ($20) is an interesting mix that includes pickled beets and strawberries, along with their market cheddar burger ($17) and fabulous twice cooked fries. The carrot cupcake is strangely addicting, and I think their gluten free brownie is a bit of a sleeper. Some of their items didn't jive with me previously, such as an underwhelming cashew queso ($9), a semi-laughable Vietnamese steak bowl ($22), and their semi-gringo version of a banh mi ($15). It's not that these items are bad per se, but they definitely don't live up to the same standard that I feel their other dishes do best. Where they hit the biggest home run is their customer service. Everyone working behind the counter does their best to deliver and they almost always do by staying on top of refills, cleanups, and customer greets. I've always enjoyed my experiences here and look forward to every visit.
