    Location.

Stopped here on our road trip down the coast. Almost drove by it so be alert. Had brisket and ribs. Hubby says best brisket he has ever had. Chatted with the owner while we were waiting. Great service and food.

Mixed plate: Ribs, brisket and pulled pork with 4 sides and sauce, then we added oven-roasted vegetables.

Excellent food. We get the brisket sandwiches everything we are in Brookings. A few times a year. The sides are great also.

They open at 11am and we came before 11:30 and there was only 1 other couple seated. The waitress was very polite and friendly. We were seated quickly, given menus and water. One lady in our group can't eat gluten and has a few other allergies so she ask if she could eat the "soup of the day". Our waitress replied "I'm pretty sure". My friend asked if she was sure or pretty sure. She said she would check but never came back. Then the weird part happened. We had placed our orders, the other tables were now full, but nobody had food, except that one party that arrived before us. We assume there was some problem in the kitchen but she never came back to explain or apologize for the very long wait. Not to us, or anyone. When she eventually brought the food out, there was no apology or acknowledgement for the long wait. And she brought my friend a salad instead of the soup which she had inquired about. She did explain that she couldn't get an answer to her allergy question so she wanted to be safe. But wouldn't you tell the customer before just bringing the food? Anyway the food was all delicious!! I ordered the halibut sliders which were cooked perfectly. The "soup of the day" was okay but needed salt and pepper, which we requested. They brought us 2 pepper shakers, no salt. My wife had pasta bolognese which she loved. Her salad was bland. So overall the food was very good. The service was below par

Both really good and made in their stone oven. We also got the calmari for appetizers. Calamari cooked perfectly, not rubbery. Light batter, crispy, and seasoned really well that gave it great flavor. Others in the group ordered a clam chowder bread bowl, chicken Parmesan, fish & chips and shrimp & chips. The overall consensus was good. Casual atmosphere and perfect location. It's at the boardwalk near an arcade. During the day, there's also ice cream and coffee nearby. Couldn't get any pictures.

We came down to Brookings to take care of some business and decided to stop in for lunch and a drink afterwards. We weren't especially hungry so we ordered our usual favorites (clam chowder for me and steamer clams for the fellow) that combo usually helps us decide whether or not we want to return, without breaking the bank on a new spot. Our server was delightful, she was kind and attentive without being overbearing. Our order took a little longer than expected for what we ordered but we didn't mind, we had some nice blackberry cider they had on tap to tide us over. I was a little disappointed when our meals came out and I didn't get a slice of bread with my bowl of clam chowder like the fellow did with his steamers, but we were able to buy a half batard for $5 and that was perfect for us to split. It came out warm with a side of butter and complimented the chowder much nicer than the oyster crackers they originally brought out would have. In fact I recommend getting the bread if you order the chowder, it almost stole the show. The chowder was delicious, could've been warmer but still very tasty, the potatoes were cut super thin, and the clams were plump and tender and tasted fresh, they did add bacon but not in overwhelming amounts, and I thought it was spiced perfectly. I only added a few shakes of red pepper flakes to finish it. The fellow thought his steamer clams/mussels were marvelous, with a very flavorful broth, and he loved the fact that he was allowed to mix them. They made a good first impression on us, we will definitely be returning for dinner and ordering a couple of pizzas and perhaps a salad as well. Who knows, they may prove to be one of our new favorite spots.

My wife ordered the Agedashi Tofu & Pork Gyozas and I had a couple of rolls, the spicy Rouge and a plain Jane salmon, avocado and cucumber roll. Everything was fantastic. The fish was super fresh, the tofu cooked perfectly and the gyoza sauce tangy and yummy. We only had a couple of small issues, more personal preferences really. 1 - my wife enjoyed the tofu, but the dish is described as having an agedashi broth but really it was more of a thicker style sauce smeared on the plate the tofu was placed on. It didn't really have a true broth. 2 - the habanero marmalade was not spicy. The roll was described as a spicy roll, but the marmalade was sweet. Unfortunately, the jalapeños were sweet as well. I know they can't control capsaicin in peppers, but that marmalade needs way more habanero. It would be WONDRFUL on toast though! Note: looking at their menu now they have updated this roll to replace the marmalade with a "tangy sesame". I look forward to trying this to see the difference. If you want a wonderful coastal option that isn't fish & chips, give Pacific Sushi a try.

He enjoyed the Redwood and Rogue rolls. Next time I *won't* order the Nature Nugget roll (which is listed with different ingredients on their website than their in-restaurant menu). It tasted like Lysol, presumably from the citrus ponzu? That was a tough swallow. I'd still return for that tofu, though. We were seated right away, arriving around 8pm on a Saturday night, with several other guests already seated. The lighting was low and decor was pleasing for a small town coastal sushi joint. The tomodachi was on point and our waitress was attentive and pleasant!

They make their own vodka and it's quite nice. Do yourself a favor and try any of the Superfly specials with it, they'll surprise you. They do have a food menu, but it's a martini bar first and restaurant second. The food was pretty decent, but the knife work, plating and ratios showed the experience behind the stove. I was pleasantly surprised when I was told I could order fish tacos even though it wasn't on the menu. I love a good grilled fish taco so I went for it. The fish was perfectly cooked and seasoned well, the green and orange sauces were good if a little too mild, and the tortillas were the right style but not grilled quite enough. Also, there was very little cilantro or onion and almost no cabbage so they weren't as filling as I would have liked. My wife had the Katsu Chicken Salad. It arrived plated like it was deconstructed: the katsu on a bed of lettuce greens with very thick slices of vegetables around around the plate and the dressing on the side. It was odd, clunky and the katsu was under seasoned. The peanut dressing was divine though, my wife said she could have drank that like milk. There are some other dishes I'd like to try and their drinks were fantastic so we'll definitely try them again.

Best thin crust tavern style pizza we've had in a long time, in a very unexpected location…read more My wife, her mom, and I had just crossed the Oregon-California border into Oregon and used the nearby Dollar Tree in Brookings to be our end point on our fourth day Internet access had been spotty throughout our trip through Big Sur and then Redwood parks, so used a combination of Google maps and Yelp to find nearby businesses, just for fun. Fat Cat showed up with high ratings. None of us were particularly hungry, but their ratings for thin-crust pizza piqued my interest, so we adjusted our plans and walked in. There was one employee (Ian) working on this mid afternoon time on hump day, so had to get his attention while he was working in the back. You place and pay for your order first, so ordered a medium thin crust pineapple/ham ($15). Not knowing what to expect, I asked if the pizza crust could be made well done. We sat down at the fast food booths, and didn't have to wait long. When the pizza came, all of us knew immediately by the sight and smell that it was going to be great. The crust was the perfect thinness, and the toppings were generous. Our plan was to sample some of it and then take the rest back, but the three of us ended eating every single piece. It was that good. We learned a bit more about the business from Ian. It used to be a franchise pizza joint, but the owner decided to stop being a franchisee, and create a local name. 'Gato Gordo' was thrown out as an early name, with the final name being chosen as the winner from an early Christmas party secret Santa gift. The pizza crust is consistently made by a dough sheeter at a low thinness setting. This might be sacrilegious, but I think I prefer this way vs the hand tossed NY style that is way more prevalent (and way more expensive).
