Jump forward to the present day and "DICK'S Sporting Goods" takes the crown for the biggest and most complete selection of anything sports-related. This is a nationwide company that has been in operation since 1948 and since then (as of 2026), they have over 700 stores that are currently operating. The location I am focusing on is at the Stanford Crossing shopping center in Roseville, CA. Located directly off of Stanford Ranch Rd and tucked in between Fairway Dr and Five Star Blvd, this location has been around since mid-2017. What makes this idea is the close proximity to other major retailers as well as the very large parking lot. During the dozen or so times that I have been inside here, I have never had an issue finding a parking spot, even during peak holiday season and busy weekend days. Upon entering, you will notice that the store layout is massive. Soon, you will see how this place has just about everything you might need when it comes to sporting goods. The cash registers/customer service area and the lines for checkout are to the immediate right. Navigating around isn't too difficult as many of the aisles give you the feeling as if you are not bumping into anyone. I also wanted to add that there are two restrooms towards the very rear left part of the store. On any given day, there are dozens upon dozens of employees/staff everywhere; usually they are dressed in a green shirt with trousers and athletic shoes. To put things into perspective, they carry a huge assortment of gear pertaining to all types of sports; baseball, football, basketball, golf, hockey, lacrosse, pickleball, tennis, soccer, softball, volleyball, and much more. You will also find a nice variety of outdoor and camping travel essentials that include tents, sleeping bags, outerwear, and ski equipment. Additionally, their fitness/cardio selection is vast with a ton of treadmills, ellipticals, and everything to get your home gym going. I've purchased a mountain bike here that has been great so far. And let me tell you about their clothing line & shoes; here you will find a wide inventory of men's/women's/kids clothes apparel, sports jerseys, and all types of shoes. During my most recent visit, I needed a comfortable, long-lasting pair of reliable walking shoes. After narrowing down my selection, I finally settled with the Brooks "Glycerin 22" series that provided the support and comfort I was looking for. Also keep in mind for the deep discounts this place offers. These shoes were selling for $164.99 but there was an online Dick's Sporting Goods coupon that were selling these for $114.99. Even better, with every purchase over $100.00, I received a $20.00 of coupon which brought my total to $94.99 + tax. Not bad for a pair of quality walking shoes. All in all, "Dick's Sporting Goods" is a very good above average retailer with an absolutely large variety of options. The only negative thing I would say is that their customer service isn't top notch as the employees that worked in the shoe area weren't the most knowledgeable in answering my questions. Not a big deal since I heavily researched these shoes prior to coming here. I think it all depends on which employee works where. For instance, my bike purchase (back in 2020) was amazing but this experience was just average. Aside from minor things like that, I am still going to give the Roseville Dick's Sporting Goods a respectable four star rating.

After both my wife and I tinkered with it, running and walking, we told Joey we wanted one. And we also wanted it delivered and setup in our home (part of the promotion). There was a little confusion regarding the inventory, but after some networking around the store along with the store's manager, James, it was determined that the model we wanted was not readily available in store. So Joey got on the phone with the Folsom store and got us squared away with the promotion we wanted along with delivery and setup. Yes we had to travel over to the Folsom store, but Joey and James made the arrangements for us very easy--and James gave us a $25 Gift Card for the waiting and travel we had to go through to get our machine. This was confusing, considering my credit card had already been charged. What made the situation worse was what came next: I was told that in order to process the return, the store would need to scan my California ID -- not just look at it, but scan it into their system. This is deeply concerning. In California, scanning a government ID is not legal unless the practice is clearly disclosed and the purpose is explicitly stated, typically for fraud prevention in limited situations. That was not the case here. No disclosure, no explanation, just "this is the only way we can do the return." There is also no logical reason for this request. My ID is not tied to my online purchase, it is not "in their system," and there is no matching function taking place. If the transaction truly hadn't posted yet, scanning my ID would not solve that issue -- so why collect that data at all? Between the system excuse that doesn't align with the credit card charge and the insistence on scanning my ID without transparency, this experience felt unnecessary, invasive, and poorly handled. I expect better from a brand that positions itself as premium and customer-centric. I left without completing the return and with serious concerns about Lululemon's in-store practices around customer data and privacy.

Now I don't think I can even run a block so it's a little bittersweet... But alas, Fleet Feet has stayed consistently awesome all these decades later. Today we stopped by to inquire about new work shoes for my husband. He's been experiencing some foot discomfort so we thought maybe he needed new insoles and now maybe new shoes. Thought we'd also have him reevaluated for fit, to make sure his shoes were a good fit for his feet. When we walked in on Sunday early afternoon, we were greeted by around 6 employees and an empty store. Wow...Fleet Feet definitely wants to make sure they have enough employees for their customers' needs, which I respect. Brooke greeted us with a friendly smile and then made a big wave across the store and said, "You have the whole store to yourselves today!" :) For the next 15-20 minutes or so, we got to try on several pairs of running shoes, including ones by Brooks, Hoka, On Cloud and Altra. For each pair, Brooke would patiently take the shoe out of the box, loosen the shoelaces, place them on my husband's feet and then tie the shoelaces. I admired her patience. :) Brooke was so upbeat and knowledgeable about feet differences and knew the different features of the shoes. After stacking several boxes all around us, we had a couple pairs that we really liked, but they weren't available in the color we wanted. Brooke cheerfully said that she could help us order them or we could order them on our own online. We also learned that they don't earn commissions for sales, so I was even more amazed at how she remained so friendly and cheerful throughout the entire interaction. (I think I might have grumbled about taking all these boxes out, having to fix the shoelaces and put all the shoes back in boxes, then have to take them to the back of the store and reorganize them, hehe). We were totally impressed by Brooke and the professionalism she exhibited for Fleet Feet. They are definitely lucky to have an employee like her! If you've never been to a running store and had your feet/gait evaluated so you can find out if you overpronate, underpronate or have flat feet, you definitely need to stop by Fleet Feet to get a proper shoe fitting, especially if you're doing a lot of walking or running. (My Ironman coworker had instructed me to go to Fleet Feet and Running Warehouse/Zone back when I first started training for races and I'm so glad she pointed me in that direction!)
