Went to drop off a prescription for a pain killer after a minor surgery. I was told it would be at least an hour until it was ready. Hopefully the local anesthetic won't wear off by then. Mildly annoyed, I went home to rest and wait for the call letting me know my prescription was ready. 90 minutes passed so I called to check the status. The recorded voice told me it was going to be another 2.5 hours. Now moderately annoyed, I used the automated phone system to ask to speak to somebody in the pharmacy. After being on hold for THIRTY MINUTES, I got fed up and hung up. Now fuming and in pain, I called back and asked to speak to the manager. I told him the situation and he said he'd look into it and call me back. A few minutes later, he called back and told me my prescription was ready to be picked up. I'm not sure if this is common among other CVS locations, but Portola Plaza CVS needs to make some major changes. I'll be taking my future business elsewhere. read more

A few weeks ago I asked the Pharm Tech about the availability of isopropyl alcohol, as it's been sold out everywhere since the beginning of the COVID-19 panic hoarding. I wondered if they'd heard about new supplies or shall I just forget about it ? Instead I was told I don't really need isopropyl alcohol & I should just wash my hands with soap! I replied thank you for this info , but on-the-go and places without water, hand washing isn't possible. In retrospect, I wish I'd added some thing about her off topic lecture & bad information. If I listened to her advice & didn't make hand sanitizer at home - I'd have none. Everyone is potentially worse off in that case. Recipe for hand sanitizer is just two ingredients: 60% Isopropyl alcohol Vegetable Glycerin No choice but to make it. From March 25 -April 25 from here to San Diego hand sanitizer has been sold out. I would give this place zero stars but I want this to show up. This review will serve as a preface to my phone call to corporate. On November 2, 2020, my girlfriend and I went to this CVS (our usual location) to pick up an Rx as well as some random items (hairbrush, nail polish, etc). During the self-checkout process, we made separate transactions but used machines next to one another. Another gentleman customer had attempted to use a third machine situated next to us (important detail for later). I completed my transaction first and walked over to the exit area which is situated between two checkout lanes. Mind you, this was a populated time to be at the store and a good amount of people were in line. Now, my girlfriend completed her transaction and was walking over to me when this light-haired, masked, rude little "supervisor" named "Hayley" shouted from across the store (directed at my girlfriend, note that the gentlemen was no longer in this area anymore - he had moved to a real lane) ... about a green glowing light above the self-checkout machine not having turned off post-transaction. She started charging over there, quite apparently drunk with artificial power asking if my girlfriend (who had paid and was ready to leave with me) if she had paid for her purchase (umm, duh!). During this time, a nice male worker shouted to Hayley "they're fine," "that wasn't their machine, they're fine" (because it was actually the machine that stopped working for that gentleman I mentioned earlier which he abandoned). Hayley proceeded to walk over to the machine to "investigate." My girlfriend, in front of a store of people asked Hayley if she would like to see her receipt. Hayley, who came charging back from her "2-second investigation" said, "NO, I will check the security camera footage." Now ... a few things are wrong here. 1) Not only was there no need to question the transaction process of my girlfriend's experience as she is a regular, responsible paying customer, but she OFFERED to show her receipt as a courtesy and was declined. 2) Hayley decided this needed to be a public display of false power and take up an easily debunkable issue in front of many other patrons. 3) The male employee debunked the entire dilemma but was ignored. 4) Hayley, insinuating something wrong was afoot, declared for all to hear that she would need to see some on-demand security footage of a perfectly normal and legal transaction. Does anyone understand how humiliating that is for the person she is low-key accusing of theft? It is important to note that Hayley ran into the backroom never to reemerge like a lowly coward. The store workers dealt with it in a passable fashion although they let Hayley scurry away to go "watch camera footage." I would have appreciated someone intervening at a more involved level. Regardless, let me revisit why this is so strange. Could Hayley be racist? Sexist? Homophobic? Strong accusations but she decided to essentially accuse my Hispanic girlfriend of theft in front of other patrons, but left a (white) male and myself (a white woman) alone. That is a pretty bold thing to not only DO, but be WRONG about. Hayley has some explaining to do. She is a foul, ill-equipped, power-tripped, cowardly employee who arguably has some serious issues she needs to address before she accuses *certain* customers of debunkable wrongdoing - such as a petty crime. I am unsure whether CVS believes this is acceptable behavior to display? It is racist at worst but functionally pathetic at best. Hayley single-handedly has made the decision FOR us to use another CVS from now on. Perhaps we will transition out from the pharmacy and store altogether? Too bad considering the amount of collective money we typically spend there. What a trashy and disappointing experience. Hayley the coward owes two people a strong apology for acting like an ignorant and petulant child. read more

We made a couple of appointments online for our family for the flu shot, but upon check-in were told that their online system was down so we would have to refill out our paperwork. Ok, understandable. Things like this happen. 15-minutes in we got pushed off to a couple of different pharmacy workers and had to re-explain everything. And finally we had to re-explain everything to the pharmacist (?) who was confused about our appointment times, which really didn't pertain at this point since we waited our turn politely in line and had now finished our paperwork and turned it in to the other worker. The whole thing took over 30 minutes or so, which could have easily been taken cared of if the staff weren't so unorganized. I think next year we will try the CVS in Target instead, since I was told that you get a $5.00 Target coupon to use for getting your flu shot with them. We didn't receive any coupon or rebate for future use at this branch. That was the first and last time we'll be using this CVS for our annual flu shots! So disappointing. : ( read more

I would like to send a Big "Thank You" to Casey in the Parmacy. I had run out of insulin and went in to pick up more, since it's an auto refill prescription & had refills. They told me that my new insurance wasnt going to cover it! Since it was Sunday new years weekend I knew I was in trouble!!! Awful awful awful I waited in the Drop off line for 20 minutes only to get to the front where they tell me to get up in the pick up line instead because the prescription can be filled immediately. How was I supposed to know that? They should've moved me to the front of the line for pick up not make me wait another 15 people long line. Then the head pharmacist Michael tells me to get back in line instead of wasting time arguing with him. Suggests that I contact corporate and tell them that they need more help. You don't need more help. You need to use your head. I waited in the appropriate line to drop off my prescription. Not OK to move me to a completely new lineand stick me at the back of it when I had already been waiting there 20 minutes. Management needs to do something this is basic customer service! I arrived and checked in for a shot. (The CVS in Aliso Viejo called and verified this location had the shot in stock). After the technician took my insurance and information she informed me that they didn't have any in stock - to which I said, 'the other store JUST called and stated you had them in stock.' She left the counter and returned with the vaccine. Unbelievable!!! It took 20 minutes to get my name called then they tell me, the pharmacist will be with me ASAP. WTF?!?! I work for a living, my time is important too - especially when I'm paying/have insurance. This is ridiculous! Well the nice young man (pharmacist) came out quickly enough and administered the shot. It took a total of 35 minutes to check-in and get the shot. I also got my passport photo taken while I waited and bought an obscene amount of Easter candy. read more

The "service" at this pharmacy is hit or miss. I've been coming to this location for years purely out of convenience. There are is always a large turnover with the staff as you never see the same people and they hardly answer the phone. However when they do answer they hang up on you. I was in the middle of a sentence about my prescriptions on file and the pharmacist rushed me off the phone and hung up on me. I don't normally leave reviews on Yelp or anywhere else, but this CVS on Santa Margarita Pkwy is pretty disappointing. I stopped by today to see if they carried a particular supplement and to inquire about it uses, safety, whether it was over the counter or a prescription, etc. I searched aisles 12 and 13 for the supplement, but couldn't find it. Searching their shelves of vitamins and supplements was more challenging than normal because the items were mostly obscured by 100s of long, yellow sales tags that were hanging on every shelf for practically every vitamin/supplement. I then waited in line for a "consultation" at the pharmacy. A pharmacy rep named Jenny consulted with me. Because I couldn't pronounce the name of this particular supplement I showed her an image of the product on my phone and inquired whether they carried it and where I could find it. She said its on aisle 12 or 13. I told her that I had already looked and couldn't find it. Rather then help me find it, she strangely suggested that I go to Sprouts across the street. Then she suddenly walked away. I went back to aisles 12 and 13 to look again. After several minutes of scanning every item on all the shelves, I still was not able to find it. I got back in the "consultation" line. Jenny could see that I was in line, but ignored me. Then after several minutes a cashier announced to the team behind her that I was waiting for a consultation. Jenny then comes up to me and says to me in a very condescending and disrespectful tone that "I already told you were to find it!" I decided to disregard her tone, and calmly responded that I had looked on those aisles, but couldn't find it. She then aggressively exited from behind the counter, slammed the half-door behind her and then yelled at me that "I already told you were it was." I couldn't believe it. I responded back to her by saying "are you actually yelling at me? yelling at a customer because I couldn't find the supplement?" Pretty unbelievable! Afterwards, I spoke to the Pharmacy manager, Hang Le, about all of this. Hang Le was pleasant, but was indifferent and dismissive of the situation. No apologies, no ownership of the situation, no accountability, not even a platitude about the importance of customer service. She just dismissed it as a "misunderstanding." There was no misunderstanding here. Jenny is just rude and lacks basic customer service skills. (By the way, Hang Le could not find the supplement on the shelves either! She also suggested that I go to Sprouts.) I left my name and phone number for the store manager to call me back. Haven't heard anything yet. I called corporate office and was on hold for 15+ minutes before I gave up. With all of the other stores/pharmacies out there, I will never waste my time again at this CVS or any CVS. read more

Now I'm crammed into portola plaza and forced to run into my worst enemies while I pick up scripts and wait in long lines.. feel like this is par for the course; this once lovely area is over run now. I can't say enough good things about the staff at this location!! The night crew is always very kind and courteous, even tho they have plenty of chores to attend to! I have a few favorites but I won't name names. It's always a pleasure dealing with the staff here, that's why I keep coming back! I've been going to this location for over 8 years!!!! Most of the complaints are regarding the pharmacy and well, it's a drugstore pharmacy. You won't have better luck at a Walmart either. If you are uninsured, hang onto your wallet when visiting a CVS pharmacy. My doctor prescribed Neomycin-Polymyxin-HC ERE SUSP (ear drops) 10ml or approximately 1/3oz. CVS Pharmacy charged me $84.96. I thought it sounded horribly expensive, but I figured that must be the going rate. When I returned home, the price was still bothering me so I decided to check what the price would be at other pharmacies. I discovered that Walmart would charge $65.00 and with a GOODRX coupon I could have purchased it for 30 to 35 dollars at Target as well as 4 or 5 other pharmacies within a 5-mile radius. When I returned to CVS to voice my complaint about the price. I was told, in a rather curt fashion, that different stores have different prices, and I should have checked the price before purchasing the medication. Obviously, this will be my last visit to CVS. read more

Dropped my prescription off while with my toddler. After waiting 28 minutes, I had to leave as my child simply can't be entertained that long in a store. I returned the following week, due to work schedule, and was told the prescription had never been filled. Was then informed that I can wait for it to be filled...I informed the pharmacist I will return in a few days. I'm scared to see what happens on my third visit trying to get medicine.... I don't have experience, knowledge, or clear understanding of this industry, but I do know as s consumer, it is beyond broken and very time consuming to simply get medicine. Not sure if it is this specific location, CVS as s while, of the American Healthcare system. All I know is that I'm stuck, and at their mercy. So frustrating that consumers who have money and are willing to pay have to go through this process to get their medicine. I went to the pharmacy because my doctor recommended that I get urea cream. I couldn't find it on the shelf, so I asked at the pharmacy. The pharmacy tech didn't know what it was, so she asked the pharmacist. The pharmacist said that it was only available by prescription, which is not true. I countered that the doctor did not write a prescription, but recommended that I buy this over the counter. The pharmacist replied that it would be over with the topical creams. Terrible pharmacy. Long wait lines. I sometimes wait over twenty minutes on the phone to even fill a prescription. When I come in to pick up prescriptions the lines are ridiculous and I see staff members just ignoring phone calls. One staff member messed up my inhaler refill and somehow thought I only had "half a refill left". I can't have half an inhaler. She then said "well what do you want me to do? spray half of it out?" I was looking in the aisle with juices and sodas for a while until I saw that it was outside of the aisle because it was on sale. The prices here are good. Only giving this pharmacy two stars because of the great and polite pharmacists that they have. Other than that, everything else would be below one star. It is so disappointing because they're so close to my house and I've been coming here for years for my monthly prescriptions and have never left unsatisfied up until about 6 months ago. Most of the pharmacy staff is rude, unprofessional, and inconsiderate. There has been multiple occasions in the past months where I was left on hold for 30-40 minutes at a time in an attempt to refill my prescription. If I got lucky and got through, the people answering the phone have given me attitude and showed nothing but horrible customer service. Also, be prepared to wait in line for 30+ minutes when you do drop in to pick up your prescriptions. Yesterday was the last straw for me. Called in to check on a medication that I had called to refill the previous day and never received a confirmation for. I was on hold for about 45 minutes before hanging up and dialing again. Second time, I was on hold for another 35 minutes (attached photo as proof) and still no answer. My efforts were inconclusive so I called back AGAIN this morning just to find out that the person I spoke with initially did not even refill my medication which is why I never received a confirmation. Needless to mention, I retrieved my next months prescription and will be going to a different pharmacy from now on. read more
