CVS New Providence at 1260 Springfield Avenue is an all encompassing pharmacy, and store with groceries, cosmetics, refrigerated and frozen foods, snacks, and something for everyone of any age and gender. The staff is a delight- from the front of house to the sensational pharmacy department. The pharmacy has standout pharmacists with a delightful, cordial, and professional demeanor, providing empathy, which results in superior service, among the elite. The shelves throughout the front of sore are well-stocked, and perfectly organized. The staff could not be more pleasant and kind. This is a 5-star (FIVE STAR) CVS location. Why others have given the store poor reviews is mind boggling. If you want a nightmare pharmacy experience, take a drive to CVS's Philadelphia Fairmount Avenue location and see the belligerent and rude pharmacy manager, Amna, and the unsupportive pharmacists that have no accountability, don't care about how rudely they treat customers, do not return calls in an hour, nor respond to messages in the time required- both from customers, and CVS customer support. This is a POLAR OPPOSITE than the refreshing staff at CVS New Providence, NJ. The pharmacy staff is wonderful, led by a competent manager, at the New Providence location. I am not at all keen on this CVS. I have picked up a prescription a couple of times here and must say they are not friendly, caring and insult to injury, they are extremely slow. It's always busy (I guess a lot of people need Rx in the area) and there is always a line. Be prepared to wait a while even though your prescription was sent by your Dr hours before... Ordered my Rx online and stated to pick up at 11AM. I got to the pharmacy at 7 PM. The counter person said that they did not have the Rx and should arrive by tomorrow at 4 PM. I asked shouldn't I have gotten a call if you did not have it on time. Her response,"No, we only call when we have it". How stupid does that sound, especially when it was stated that I can pick it up at 11 AM. read more

Level of incompetence cannot be matched by any other pharmacy. Huge line at noon, unheard of, despite 2 people behind the counter. Why? Every step of the way, they call the manager to ask a question, manager is clueless on resolution. Then at the end they ask about whether there is a CVS rewards account, after which they can't locate it, and the customer is like I don't care, I want to get out of this place, I'm fed up. Worst ever. I called the pharmacy twice. On hold 15+ minutes the first two times, and no one ever picked up. Called a third time and spoke to the front of the store. Asked them to tell the pharmacy to PICK UP. I was placed on hold for another 8 minutes, then the call was disconnected. The entire staff should be fired. Never before have I experienced worse service than at this CVS. They have messed up prescriptions for me four times now. They constantly tell me I have no refills even though my doctors have verified they sent the prescriptions with refills. Absurd. I have gone into withdrawals from medications 3 times now, due to CVS' negligence and errors. I will NEVER go back there, even for a pack of gum. The staff is horrid, uncaring, rude, slow, and smug. This is NOT how you treat people! Some of us have cancer and other serious issues and we shouldn't have to feel like a burden to our pharmacy! I advise everyone to look elsewhere. Slow, immature, arrogant pharmacists! You might have a degree (I have a fin. masters) but you don't yell out people's personal information, patient privacy, something they'll hopefully understand with age. The prices on products are okay, but there should be more professional protocol for better service. It doesn't cost anything other than a few cents of emotional intelligence. The worst Pharmacy on the planet. Plan on waiting a long time and they usually don't start on your prescription until you arrive to pick it up. The good news is there are usually a bunch of other people there waiting too so you won't be alone. Terrible is a good start. I gave them one star for consistency. read more

The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They are patient and kind. I have been a customer for 10 years and the pharmacy has always taken extra steps to ensure that I am well informed about my medication and the medication for my family members. My only recommendation is that the store may need to update it's fixtures and decor. Their customer service is excellent. read more

I see the complaints about this pharmacy go back YEARS and nothing has changed! They consistently mess up prescriptions and/or don't call providers to renew prescriptions in a timely fashion. I went to pick up a prescription for my Mother a week after I submitted it and they had not YET called the provider to get an update on an expired prescription. Meanwhile - the online pharmacy told me that both prescriptions were ready for pick up the previous Friday. They told me that they must have contacted the Dr. and the prescription was denied. REALLY - so if that is the case, why didn't someone contact me or follow up with the Dr again? Instead this prescription fell into a black hole where no one did ANYTHING! So my Mother is now out of this medication - and I'm waiting (a week later) for this process to start all over so I can finally get this medication. read more

This pharmacy is very good for the most part; one good note is that anytime I call to speak to a pharmacist they answer right away and are very responsive and helpful. Definitely agree with the other review about the lines, I do try to go at off-hours to avoid waiting. Also, I hate how everyone in line hears all my personal information. read more

This is the last time I use the pharmacy. Let me first say the CVS store is great and the staff is fantastic, mostly all wonderful, but the pharmacy! Holy smoke. I left my dr. at 4pm with inflamed eyes, red, itchy, sore, dermatitis, he prescribed two meds. I tried calling CVS at 5:30 just to check bf I went, no answer, called 3x more, no answer. So I drove over at 6:30pm, there was a huge line. At the end of the 15m wait, I was told "not ready, ten minutes." Ran to another store to give them time, they were really busy, I understood that, but I figured they say 10, give them 45, it will for sure be ready then. I came back in 45m, got another "not ready ten minutes why don't you sit down and wait." WTH!! My eyes are so red I look like I could shoot lasers out of them, and I was so mad I was about to. How the pharmacy assistant couldn't see this made me think she was blind, but no, she was just a dim bulb. I'm a dimmer bulb apparently, bc I did sit and wait, that's how bad my eyes hurt. AN HOUR AND AN ENTIRE MAGAZINE LATER I get up and look at this dim witted women who told every other woman in line to "sit down and wait" while giving EVERY MAN in line their prescriptions with a polite "Thank you Mr. X, Thank you Mr. Z..." with a giggle thrown in for good measure, and I shake my head. She says, you won't have to wait in the line which is now 10 people deep again at 8pm. I went outside to compose myself, bc I'm about to embarrass her (and myself) and make a huge scene (Irish temper). I walk back in, wait in line AGAIN, watch her put two more women aside and give two well heeled men their prescriptions after a 2 minute wait, again with the thank you Mr. X, a bat of her eyelashes and a giggle, (eyelash batting and giggling is not fetching on a 45ish year old woman, let me tell you). My turn, she asks me my name for the third time, I tell her she scoops my scripts out of a basket, and I say, basically, not verbatim, "listen, I see you're busy, but telling someone 10 minutes when you know it's not even close is rude." She says, "I have no control over the process," I say, "right, but you have control over sticking your head around the corner where you told me to wait and saying 'it's going to be longer than a few minutes, do you want us to call you when it's ready?" or something along those lines. She just looked at me blankly, I'm guessing she has no control over her mental process either. Does CVS train their pharmacy assistants? If so, where? At a pub? What the hell is going on with this company? And if their service is this bad, they are always this understaffed and, as a result, incompetent, doesn't it make you wonder about what they may or may not be putting in your prescription? That's scary. All the hurrying and rushing to deal with so many customers while mixing medicine is not a good idea. Not to mention the sexism by another woman no less, (actually typical in this town). So, I'm off to another pharmacy. Sadly, the days of the good ole' local mom & pop drug stores in every town are gone. Most have been wiped out because we all wanted the bigger, faster, better service and cheaper prices that chain stores could provide. Instead we've got cheap, understaffed, incompetent, poorly run, profit over humanity stores from companies such as CVS. I may have to drive a few miles to find a privately owned shop, but I think it will be worth the trip and even worth a higher price. Dealing with medications is a pretty serious endeavor, if CVS pays their staff poorly, overworks them and will not train them properly, then to hell with them. The company must treat their employees terribly though, because many of them seem unhappy. Get your act together CVS corporate and get a look at what your local managers are doing or you're going to end up like Rite-Aid. read more

I dont why I end up coming back to this CVS! Even if I drop off the prescription at lunch time its still not ready when I get off work. The lines are always long and the staff is slow. Also the staff is grumpy, nobody is smiling and nobody bothers to explain when a particular medication is not covered by my insurance. I'm never coming back to this CVS ever! read more

Let me preface this by saying I NEVER write reviews- really, this is my first. However the level of incompetence and lack of customer service skills exhibited by the staff of the pharmacy at the New Providence CVS inspired me to reload this app from the cloud and write this review. DO NO USE THIS PHARMACY. The number of times I have had to go back to multiple (read: more than two) healthcare providers and ask them to resubmit prescriptions which this pharmacy claimed they never received is absolutely embarrassing. I just hope to save the next person the irritation and insult- it's really not worth it, it will ruin your day, especially if you are already not feeling well! Trust me, just take your business elsewhere- I've had a much better experience with the Walgreens in nearby Berkeley Heights. read more

I am updating my review for this CVS that I posted in August 2015. The pharmacy seems to have improved a bit. No more long lines and a much smoother running pharmacy department overall. Something wasn't right a few months ago. Glad to see they are trying to get their act together now. I am hoping to be able to revise this review again with an even better rating someday soon. read more

I am a regular at the pharmacy counter and I don't know why everyone is complaining. The main reason why the line is slow is because a customer has an issue or question. They have a knowledgeable helpful friendly staff. The only complaint I have is when a prescription dose changes they sometimes fill scripts for both the old and new amounts. read more

During the first 5 seconds of my first encounter w/this CVS I was interrupted twice. Not a good sign...

Do yourself a favor and do not go to this CVS! This CVS is horrible! I waited three weeks for a prescription that they said would be available "in a few days" - it never came. They kept putting me off when I called to inquire. I ended up getting it filled at another CVS the same day I got tired of waiting for New Providence. They also gave my son a prescription that wasn't even his - I told the counter help that they made a mistake, and he argued with me! He said the doctor called it in, and I told him that wasn't even my son's doctor - I never heard of him! He still insisted they do not make mistakes. Obviously they do. I would definitely double-check ANY prescriptions from them. As if that wasn't enough, the lines are WAY too long - always. I was also kept on hold for ten minutes trying to see if the script (which they never filled) was ready for pick up. AND, I am not one to ever complain. I am calling CVS corp headquarters to notify them of the poor service and script errors. read more
