I met with CYC Landscaping for a simple backyard project. I wanted a basic 6ft BBQ island, a 3x5 firepit, pavers and a 10ftx12ft putting green with two cups. That's it. The quote they provided was a laughable $32,000, which was a whopping $10,500 more than my next highest bidder. I had met with several landscapers prior to CYC's visit because I wanted to get an idea of what is reasonable. Their pictures of the work they've performed appear nice. They also appear to have won some awards. Their website seems nice. But let's not kid ourselves here... these people are from Mars. The very same day I received the quote, I emailed back a couple basic questions. I never heard from them again. My guess is they knew they were so grossly overpriced and my guess is this job was just too small to entertain their interest. Please proceed with caution. read more

My 1st red flag was when Mike told me he doesn't work weekends. I envisioned all kinds of difficulties getting ahold of him if something was wrong because I work during the week. But, a set up an estimate anyways. He was literally at my house for a total of 10 minutes. Apparently my job was too small to be worth his time. he didn't even offer to work with my budget. He told me I am stuck with what I have. Very unprofessional, dare I say pompous and bordering on rude. My brother got a quote from him for his yard and said Mike was extremely impressive (my bro had a big job), but extremely expensive, so they didn't use him. read more

I relocated from Ohio to the Phoenix area and was clueless about the irrigating system and how much water these heat-tolerant plants, grasses, trees, and shrubs need. I was even more clueless about the irrigation systems and the different types of drip heads. The first step was to make sure that the irrigation system was working to I called CYC Landscaping. They sent out what I believe was their best technical, Matt. Matt arrived on time and went right to work. He kept me informed on everything that he did and he educated me on my system and what I needed to do going forward to ensure that I took good care of all of the plants in my yard. He showed me how to troubleshoot my system and explained why I was probably having the few problems that I knew I was having. Matt also directed me to CYC's website so that I could educate familiarize myself with the watering guideline for my landscaping. I have worked with CYC Landscaping on projects at 2 different houses I have owned. They have been extremely responsive to all of my needs. They have showed up when they said to all of our appointments, given great ideas and even supplied me with a detailed drawing showing exactly what they were going to do in my yard. Most importantly, when it came time to do the project I had a detailed timeline of when the project would be completed and they met it every time. As with any project, there can be hiccups, but CYC always remedied those issues quickly and made my yard look amazing. I cannot recommend them enough. read more

We had CYC landscape our backyard four years ago and not a rainstorm goes by that I don't think to myself, "wow those guys did an awesome job". They did such a superb job preparing our yard before laying artificial grass and pavers that we never have any flooding. The rain drains almost immediately. The last big storm we had in Phoenix a month ago (where there was flooding everywhere!) we did have an ankle deep pool in the turf area, but it had drained in about an hour after the rain had stopped. We also use CYC's sister company, Complete Yard Care to do bi-monthly maintenance on our yard and they do an excellent job, even fixing things or cleaning up messes without being asked. They're always professional, and we get a polite knock at the door before each service to make sure we don't have anything special we need done. Our backyard is beautiful as well, and when we move to our new house I will definitely miss my little oasis, which is why we'll be having CYC Landscaping do the work we're planning at the new house! read more

A landscape drainage contractor was very difficult for me to locate after After many fruitless attempts. CYC Landscaping was the solution. All their work was performed professionally - from the simple CAD drawing, contract, completion of work through their self-initiated follow-up visit. The work crew was very accommodating and worked smoothly and effectively as a team. Though, I will need to wait for some heavy monsoon rains to come to observe further drainage solution results. Mike was very responsive and was the 1st person to come out and give us a quote. He took measurements when he came which was helpful but we were also looking for specific ideas and suggestions to make it look nice (we had a general idea but were open to suggestions from a pro) which we didn't get much of. We did receive a basic quote for paver work the same day. It wasn't as detailed as the company we ended up going with. Sometimes I think more is better to help the customer visualize when providing a quote. Needless to say we didn't end up using them primarily because we ended up getting a quote from one of their competitors that was about 3k less Overall they seem to be a good and responsive company but it all came down to pricing for us read more

In addition, he was very knowledgeable about the placement and types of trees and shrubs best suited for my yard and what I wanted to accomplish. It was just so easy working with him. My entire back yard was re-done - porch was extended and pavers added, artificial turf (thick & looks just like grass) in the center of the yard with a surrounding border, all new plants and trees, and a raised garden bed surrounded by an awesome brick wall. Excellent work, and attention to detail. They landscaped my entire yard from the boring builder landscaping that came with my house in the front yard; a kidney bean shaped piece of grass a couple of tiny trees and some rocks. And they also took my dirt backyard and turned it into a tropical oasis, with a beautiful rock waterfall, flowering plants, trees, lush grass and pavers done in a cool circular pattern. It's beautiful back there now and all my friends are insanely jealous of my mini tropical paradise. I highly recommend them. I'm taking off one star because my project was delayed by a 3 days because of a 3 day holiday weekend, but I guess that means that they actually give their employees holiday weekends off...so maybe that should actually be plus one star? EDITED: After thinking about it for a few weeks, I decided to give back the star I originally subtracted for the 1 day delay on my project. Mike Larchick quoted us on a series of trellises to be placed behind the accent wall of our pool. After quoting us, ordering all materials, and scheduling the project, he visited the property and determined we couldn't place the trellises where we wanted them to because of the condition of the soil, which CYC didn't investigate until way too late in the game. We had a disagreement about who should bear the cost of the mistake (i.e., getting more expensive trellis work done), and CYC refused to accept any responsibility. Ultimately, we were forced to repurpose the trellises and the vines to a part of our backyard where the sunlight hits and the plants died after the first summer, conveniently after the warranty expired. After all that, I probably would've decided not to write this review if Mike hadn't been so rude and unprofessional during the course of our communications about our disagreement. He actually told us that my wife and I were trying to "get something for free" - on a ~$35K residential landscaping project, mind you - and said he was "done arguing with [us] about this." Happy to share the emails with anyone who cares to read them. Even if he thought he was right, he had no right to speak to us like that in a business setting. If I ever talked to a client like how he talked to my wife and me, I'd be out of business by the end of the week. If CYC was an exceptional landscaping company, I'd probably let it go, but given the number of dead plants and warranty claims we've had to make, it's not worth dealing with the unprofessionalism from Mike. There are plenty of mediocre landscapers in the Valley that are courteous and friendly, which I didn't think was too much to ask. read more

CYC Landscaping just finished up my backyard remodel and I am 100% pleased with the process start to finish and the results. Mark really listened to all my ideas and added some great suggestions that he put into a plan for my yard. We then met and altered as necessary to meet my budget. Speaking of budget, they do have special no interest financing available. We were all set to go but due to a death in the family, I needed to reschedule on kind of short notice, but Mandie in the office was happy to do so. The work crew was awesome and even suggested a couple changes based on their many years of experience. My yard is now perfect. No longer the mud pit caused by overuse of my two large dogs. read more

We had been clients of CYC Landscaping for about a year and a half. The past few months' services have been slipping. I called Mandy to report a missed service and she told me she would call Reed to see when the crew could get back out to complete the job. Four days later I received a voicemail from Reed that the crew would be there the same day, and to call him with any questions. When I called Reed to report that his crew had never shown up, I was chastised for calling at 6:50 pm. He did not state that I should call between certain hours in his voicemail. Instead, he made it seem as if it was my fault for bothering him while he was spending time with his daughter. I requested a refund and cancellation of service and received both. The owner sent me an apology email claiming, "Unfortunately, hiring quality people seems to be getting harder by the day." This is a fallacy to avoid the real issue here: MANAGEMENT. The first reaction is to blame their employees for management's ineffective leadership. Reed needs to brush up on his customer service skills, and Mandy needs to learn how to effectively communicate with her crews, and more importantly, the clients. Good people are everywhere. CYC's management does not know how to lead. At no time did any manager, or the owner, bother to pick up a phone and call me to discuss what was going on with our service. From the sound of his email, it has been some time since they have had any consistency. It seems they are going to continue having issues going forward. Beware and inspect the work to see if it has been truly finished. read more

We used CYC for a patio remodel. Fire Line, fire pit, bbq island. The project started just after Thanksgiving and was supposed to be completed before Christmas. That didn't happen due to errors from their supplier. But the project was completed during January, without our presence. They sent us videos and pictures. After returning we had to work out a few final things but service and communication was great. Our patio is absolutely fantastic and our guests are stunned by it! Highly recommended! read more

Mike the sales person came to our home for the initial overview of the project. It was stated there would be phases and our main concern was the grading and drainage of the backyard. This is a newly constructed home and no landscaping until now. This was supposed to be a 4 day project that spanned to 5 weeks. We were enjoying our new backyard but needed to contacted CYC for leak issues next to our foundation. At that point, I received a VERY long winded explanation about South Gilbert soil being the reason behind the moisture and CYC would not come out to fix the issue without charging me a service charge. The tables were turned on me with a derogatory tone of me not understanding the project. During the project I was contacted by Mike on the phone (no record of the conversation) indicating he forgot about the drainage and would address now - during the project- for additional cost to me. He apologized for the oversight but flat out forgot our main concerns. In his own words this is how Mike is talking to a frustrated customer, instead of trying to take a personal interest to make it right. "I never once said that i forgot about your grading and drainage in the yard. That is not something that we would ever forget. However it is also something that would be addressed more in some portions/phases of the project than others. I did tell you that I overlooked the fact that we wouldn't be doing really anything with the grade while adding rock to the yard. I took full responsibility to that and apologized genuinely for that you. As a resolve I give you a ridiculous amount of dirt, drainage and grading work at an extensive discount, most of it for free. From the beginning you have acted like someone wronged you, even before any of the grading issues arose. Again, we are a stand up company, we stand 100% behind what we do. You don't seem to understand the drainage and grading or don't want to hear the facts about it, but that is neither here nor there at this point." - Mike Larchick This person is flat out rude. The first phase is somewhat what we wanted. The customer service was the worst possible. The field guys were nice and respectful. I would NEVER recommend this company. read more

I am disappointed with their lack of basic courtesy. Mike called me with the date and time for our back yard quote. I waited all day and no one came or called. I wasted whole Thursday waiting. I called them on Friday and they were like, well Mike is on vacation so someone got it wrong with your schedule. How can Mike who's on vacation call me on Tuesday to make appointment with me for Thursday. I know things happen and sometimes you can't make the appointment but I believe it's common courtesy to let that waiting person know so they can still go about their day. read more

CYC did a great job of converting our "dirt" into a living space that we can use year round. Mike worked with us to develop a plan for the yard and developed an estimate for completion. He had some great ideas. (We are new to the desert.) The end product is just what we wanted it to be. The installation crew was really good and was well supported by the office staff. There was a question about some elevation changes on the pavers and Carlos (the expert) came up with an innovative solution that looks great. They cleaned up each day at the end of the work.
