Decent place, largest selection of gear and accessory type stuff around, but with enough transactions you definitely get the feeling they are kind of shady. I wanted to know when my tires would be in (also couldnt order them over the phone, had to go in the store) and the guy charged my credit card before telling me when they would be in, which was going to take 5 days, 3 days longer than I was about to wait. They've also been kindof deaushy in the past with returning things. I still shop there and will continue to, but I definitely don't go in there looking for a deal. I believe its also a commission based job, so it gets annoying when everyone in the store comes up to you asking for help repeatedly. Went in to at least buy gloves ... $50+ ... $ in hand ... but just couldn't see any chance of having someone take my money in under 5, then 10 minutes ... walked out to my bike...came back ... same obliviousness on the part of the 2 or 3 people working that day who WERE busy...perhaps they were short handed by 1 or 2 people...that's how it seemed. NOTE: believe it or not I'm on the side of these folks..... HAVE gone into Cycle Gears, INCLUDING THIS ONE, maybe 100 times over the years, USUALLY walk away having bought what I went in for PLUS one of their typically good deals. ....... AND THEY HAVE THE BEST DEALS, USUALLY, ANYWHERE. But truth is ... I ain't go'n 'o stop at this one as often. ....BUT will check this one out, probably...'cause that day's waste of time WAS rare. ('gave up, stopped looking at ADDITIONAL things to buy, put money away, left after circa 20-25 cumulative minutes it seemed.) Cycle Gear workers: AT LEAST look up, say to the 2-3-4 people circling the cash register "...'be a minute...thanks for waiting..." or SOMEthing vs. --zero--. Good luck. I don't want your business to fail and not be there; however,this keeps customers ... lessened. I'm new to riding so we went here to get my first full face helmet. I've been riding around with an open face helmet which isn't the safest thing to wear after almost getting run over 3 times. Everyone was cool, but pretty busy so I didn't get any one-on-one help. After a little more research and a few days of testing out my new helmet, I ended up coming back and getting another one. Good thing they have a 7 day exchange policy on helmets! While there I bought a jacket and accessories. I couldn't resist--everything was on sale! So, we ended up getting some awesome deals. I need to stop going here. Everytime I go, I spend a lot of $$$. The staff is awesome and the owner (Mike) is also great. These guys don't try to pressure you to buy anything, but willing to do anything to create a great customer experience. The shop itself is a bit small (IMO) so things are bit crowded. But they do have a good selection. And if they don't have what you need, they can order for you. The prices are great too. You'd think that going to stores online would be cheaper, but Cycle Gear's price at their store is identical to anything I've found online (ie Motosports.com & few other places). Despite the sales tax increase due to the idiots in Sacramento, if you were to order online, the S&H fee would negate the CA sales tax so it's a wash for me. Besides, if I'm buying a jacket or boots, I want to try them out first. Their return policy is great too. No issues yet. If you need anything for your bike, this is my top recommendation. read more

As an avid rider with more than 200,000 miles riding experience, I know that purchasing the right gear is almost as important as purchasing the right motorcycle. In order to make an informed decision, many riders rely on the expertise of Cycle Gear or dealership staff. It is for this reason that competent staff at any apparent store is EXTREMELY important. After all, you aren't just buying a T-Shirt! The staff at this location is exceptional. I would like to specifically mention Laura, who goes to incredible lengths to make sure her customers are happy. Not only is she extremely patient and knowledgeable, but she is experienced and able to share multiple points of view, allowing riders of all skill levels to make proper decisions. Since they closed the CycleGear shop in Simi Valley, I've been coming to the one in Canoga Park. Not a problem because it's close to where I work. The customer service is always great. The staff are always able to answer any of my questions. Matt is always there when I visit, and he always give great product advice. I'm glad they open til 7pm (8pm on Fri) so that I can still go shopping after work! Additionally, when I cannot find my size in the store, I can always go online to make my purchase. I think it is also great that I can return/exchange my online purchases in the store. They have some pretty good prices when they have a sale. I usually wait for the monthly ads to come in the mail before I go to the store to make a purchase. A great way to save a lot of money on your gear! read more

I have been to Cyclegear twice and so far they have the best selection and customer service out of all the other motorcycle stores. As soon as I got the two workers at the back say hello and another girl comes up and asks me if I need any help. This was shocking to me as most stealerships / motorcycle gear shops will ignore you until you're ready to buy. Besides their workers, they have a good selection of street and motocross gear. They have decent prices, although never better than online and they have a lot of different gloves, boots, helmets, etc. They also sell maintenance products and tires. Great selection of almost anything. And if they don't have it "We can order it!!"......well....so can I. And it'll go straight to my door. And I can probably find it cheaper. Speaking of price. Rarely is this the place to find a "deal". They do have periodic sales where you can score a sweet deal on something random like pit stands or something else you didnt need in the first place. But it was a deal!! Most of the employees are pretty solid. Some a little up your ass, others could care less. The ones all over you give more of the "whatchya gonna steal" vibe than the courtesy vibe. All in all it's a solid go to for moto gear and aftermarket bits and pieces. read more

I have been coming here for a couple of years with always stellar service. This last go-around, my clutch cable snapped. Yes, I could have purchased online, or gone to the stealership. . .though, I gave my local Cycle Gear a shot. Matt (the boss) always greets me with a warm hello, and since this was a special order deal from Drag Specialties, he gave me a call when UPS delivered my special order cable from DS warehouses in Nevada. Saved $50 over the Harley Dealer to boot! They are more than a retailer, more than a building with a bunch of motorcycle parts, they are a bunch of good folks who will work to earn your repeat business. Three stars for the staff- they are always nice whenever we've gone in there. The three stars is also for the frequent sales they have for certain things that we have bought in which we don't care that it's the Bilt brand- ramps, fork savers, gas cans, etc. The reason this place doesn't get a higher rating is due to the fact that they don't sell that much MX stuff, and whatever is MX, is mostly the Bilt brand. You'll find a few name brands, but the selection is very minimal. I do like the fact that it's open on Sundays in case you need a quick pickup for basic maintenance. I'll come here for that, but I go to true MX shops for the other stuff. read more

so i didn't buy anything, but i went with my friend when he was looking for a reflector vest. we're greeted right away by a young lady. she gives me a look up and down, but then again...i guess anyone would because i was holding a motorcycle helmet, wearing shorts and 3 inch heels. lol. no...i wasn't driving...i was just the passenger...then she had a little stuck up air about her when she was like oh...i would never ride like that...well, obviously missy...i wouldn't be able to change gears in those heels..so, no...i wouldn't be dressed like this either if i was the one driving. anywho...she was attentive...a little TOO attentive @ times...she asked first if we needed help, which was cool, but then wouldn't leave us alone. haha. i mean, she was cool and all, just wanting to start conversation i guess. but we were browsing and wanted to be left alone. but whatever. not too big of a deal, i guess a little better than not gettin any attention and we were there for a short period of time anyways. they have your usual items, jackets, accessories, dirt bike section, helmets, do dats and what not. the prices on the gear there is pretty decent and even more so for my friend cuz he just finished his safety course and had a 15% discount (which btw i didn't know that it was only a one time use, for the first purchase..but whatever). hopefully i'll get a bike in a year or so...and when i do, yea, i'd come back here for little things i need, without having to go all the way to san bernardino to the chaparral. read more

My son needed a service manual for his dirt bike, we called and "Tom" answered. He was very helpful and said he'd hold the manual up at the check stand with my son's name on it. When we got there Tom was at the check stand. He was friendly, informative and funny. He explained the difference between the dealer's manual and Clymer's manual. It's a lot cheaper and easier to understand and and you don't need an engineering degree to understand it, we were sold! On other occasions we have come across great deals so it's really worth checking in with them to see what's on sale. I used to really like this place mainly because of the people who were there, however, it's changed over the years, in a BIG way. I called, inquiring whether or not they had a battery for my bike in stock, apparently they only had one guy working on a wednesday afternoon??? WTF! I had to wait on the phone while he took care of customers, kind of like an old-school NAPA store back in the 1980's. So I inquired about a YUASA battery and he told me about that one, but then tried to sell me on a Megaboost, I guess aftermarket, battery. Never heard of the Megaboost, so I asked if they were good. Him: "We've been selling them for years". Me: "Yes, but are they good?" Him: "They come with a lifetime warranty, dude". Me: "I could spend a lifetime returning piece of shit batteries with a lifetime warranty". His answer could not possibly be any less helpful. First, a lifetime warranty doesn't mean anything, I could spend 50 hours returning batteries that they replace with refurbs 400 times and THAT is not worth it to me. I like a place that has a bit more knowledge to answer with their warranty plan and "dude" at the end. I asked a question for a reason. I'll buy my Yuasa battery somewhere else, thanks. read more

This is a pretty cool place. They do have a pretty good selection, specially for men. My problem with them is that it seems that they are always running out of my size. Also, their prices aren't too good, except for when they have a sale. For example, I needed front brake pads for my ZX-9R, they had them in stock at like 37 bucks for the cheap version and 43 bucks for the more expensive version, both pads by the same manufacture. I called Johnson & Woods in North Hollywood and they had the exact same pads, by the same manufacture, for 25 bucks for the cheap version and 30 dollars for the more expensive. Exactly same break pads but Cycle Gear had them priced at about 10 bucks more per set. By buying them somewhere else I saved 20 bucks (10 bucks for each front rotor). Those 20 bucks got me a can of break cleaner, shop paper towels, a brush, and break fluid. To be fare, you can find better deals somewhere else, but to do so, you would have to visit several places to have the same selection. Therefore, the only real advantage is the convenience of having a good selection to chose from in one place. read more

Every time I have taken a tire in to get mounted, they acted confused at why I would just stop by and bring my service to them... I have had to explain that I'm just dropping it off for them to finish within 24 hrs which is their policy. Some of their employees need to practice their customer service and customer interactions. If I didn't know exactly what I wanted done or exactly what product I wanted, I am not confident that they would be able to help me. They constantly need to order products for me since they don't have my size or the model I am looking for, like gloves and especially tires. Tires on their website are way overpriced and not worth buying through their store. Pay the extra 10 bucks and being in a tire from another website/source. read more

When it comes to buying gear and garments online, it's tough to determine proper size, fit, etc. For a brick and mortar, this location has a suprisingly broad range of options. All three of my experiences at this location have been fantastic. Carlos spent a few hours with me one time, trying on nearly every jacket in the store, and several helmets as well. Super helpful. My other experience was with Laura, who provided excellent advice and direction. The customer service is outstanding and they offer a 1 year guarantee. Went in here on a Saturday and was immediately greeted which is always a plus. I bought a RAM handlebar mount which was unfortunately faulty and broke in the parking lot about five minutes after I bought it. Went inside and without any hassle at all they swapped it out for a new one. Thought I was done and was happy with my service but the 2nd RAM mount broke right away too. I reluctantly went back in not wanting to create a big issue and was met with understanding and even had one of the employees show me his quad lock mount on his bike. I exchanged the RAM for the quad lock because I was in about to start a 400 mile ride and really needed a mount. Overall great customer service. I was given no attitude about the product breaking, not even a sigh or eye roll. It's not often I go into businesses where the employees genuinely seem to care about the customer and here they did. I bought two helmets from here in the past and because of this interaction this will be the only cycle gear I buy from even though it's 40 minutes from my house. Great employees and customer service. horrible. to start off i orderd my tire and was waiting way too long. i never recieved an email or call that my tires were ready. i had to call to the store to find out that my item has gotten to the store already. The man on the phone said were waiting for your other items when i only ordered one tire. I told him i only ordered that tire and hes like oh yea well then its here you can come get it... nobody ever let me know it touched down at the store.. also when buying my helmet in store, i was searching fo ra helmet under 200$ and the man very rude said this isnt the store for you we dont carry helmets that price.. so i decided to wander around and let me tell you, i found atleast 10 helmets under that price and ended up picking one out and buying it.. i told him i thought you guys didnt have helmets this price.. he started to chuckle. Don't listen to the negative comments on here. All employees are super helpful. They may get a little busy at times. But hey, this is the only location in all of Los Angeles. They do a hell of a job. For example, I was in the market for a Shoei helmet and the employee, Megan, knew every little bit of detail of the RF 1200 that really sold me. It was a bit pricey but she explained to me that they get the best discounts on Shoei and I was buying a great safe product. I went to cycle gear in Newhall first thinking they could help me. My issue was I have a helmet that the Bluetooth would not hold a charge. The guy behind the counter had me call to get the receipt from another store. After an hour I left mad as well pretty mad. I called the Canoga Park store and was told to bring my helmet in and they would see what they could do. Matt waited on my wife and I. He called the Oxnard store walked the guy through how to find the receipt and Bam there it is there. Matt got the receipt and made the warranty exchange in about 30 mins. They worked with me to get my helmet fit properly, and were very patient when I exchanged it several times until it was just right. I saw them treat their other customers with the same care and attention. It's possible that some employees may not have had the same customer mindset resulting in poor reviews, however I dealt with 3 different employees there and they were all advocates for the customer, so I will judge the business in general as having an excellent customer oriented culture. read more
