I was looking for a new motorcycle gear store. 10 days ago I came across Cycle gear San marcos and as soon as I walked in the staff was attentive and helpful. I bought several things (new agv helmet, tcx shoes, Freecom 4+ cardo Bluetooth) all of which was recommended by the staff. I was so happy for the recommendation. The reason I'm only giving 2 stars is because of the poor customer service Jeff the Manager provided me. The Bluetooth from my motorcycle helmet ended up falling off during my very first ride. Keep in mind, it was installed by the staff at cycle gear. You would think that a manager would show empathy perhaps offer a discount but I was unimpressed at his lack of customer service, and unwillingness to provide a solution to a customer. The staff understood that the Bluetooth falling off my motorcycle helmet was not my fault and suggested I come back later to speak with Jeff. Totally disappointed with Jeff's customer service style. I explained to Jeff that I did purchase insurance for the Bluetooth but he told me that it only covers damage and I would need to bring the Bluetooth in. How can I bring it in when it fell off on the highway. What am I supposed to do? Pull over and walk through traffic to look for a broken Bluetooth. At least one of the Frontline team members tried to help me out. They should be promoted to his role since they have more experience with customers and trying to problem solve. Time to look for a new store to spend my money. read more

Loved this place! Was greeted with friendliness and they offered to hold my gear behind the counter while I shopped (i.e. my helmet, jacket and pack). Prices are affordable! They do have a fitting room so you can make sure the gear fits you before you buy. They also will recommend what's popular or what they have used! It's always good to get that second opinion if you ask! They don't follow you around the store pushing you to buy gear and parts. One thing I would like to see more of is more brands. They have a few but it seems like they only stick to one. read more

If you're looking for parts or bike accessories look no further. This is the place to get them. They have a police/ firefighter / military discount of 15% and their prices are extremely competitive to start. Most of their staff is extremely knowledgable and will help you pick out the things you need. They recommend products that will exceed your needs, but they'll tell you frankly if there's something in under your counter that will work just as good as a 13 dollar spray can. Since I've started riding I was recommended to go to Cycle Gear by a friend. He lives close to another bike shop and was saying that for little things he'll go to the shop to save time, but if he really wants to save money he'll go to Cycle Gear. I've compared their prices vs online retailers, and they are competitive, plus I'm getting a discount. Keep up the great work San Marcos CG staff. read more

Even though this is a smaller location compared to the one in Kearny Mesa, this store makes it up with helpful employees. RJ helped me well beyond the store's closing time on a Friday purchase, and we went back and forth on a few items I wanted to purchase. He helped with the special order of a jacket. What do you want? Yes-! They have it-! Ridiculously fair price points, bike nights, and sales near weekly make me a regular here since at least 2002. Most locations used to change tires for you, but I think that is no longer available. From my head to my feet i sport their brand merchandise which is just as comfortable and built as strong as the big names. read more

This is for sure a smaller location compared to the Kearney Mesa location but still has some great stuff! Military Discount as well! This is hands down the best Cycle Gear location. I've been coming here for at least 5 years for all my off-road needs. Dustin is my go to guy. To be honest I'm not the most knowledgable when it comes to my dirt bike but I can come in and let him know what's going on and he always goes above and beyond to help me out. He's super nice, talkative, and so beyond helpful. The store is always kept neat and stocked, and in the times that they don't carry what I need he gets it ordered to the store for me. I'd be lost without his help haha. He's also helped out a family member of mine with street bike needs which is awesome. This guy knows his stuff! I've also seen him with other customers in the store, he is so patient and seems to genuinely care about the customers. I'd give ten stars for his excellent customer service if I could!! Matt and James are also very helpful in the times I've come by and Dustin was either busy with another customer or off that day. Corporate needs to see what you guys are doing and show it to your other stores because they don't know customer service like you guys! Great job!! read more

Purchased an AGB carbon fiber helmet with Cardo communications from San Diego Cycle Gear store. Unfortunately, several different clerks tried and failed to figure out how to sync my new com unit with boyfriend's unit, despite their assurance that they were compatible. Long story short--We stood there for a couple of hours and despite their efforts, they could not sync the two helmets so we could talk to each other. Disappointed, we decided to try the San Marcos Cycle Gear in North County near my home. What a difference! First of all, we were immediately greeted by the staff as we entered the store. The attitude of the clerks was friendly and helpful. We dealt with a professional and very knowledgable young woman named "Kriss" who tackled the issue, did some internet research, determined the problem, and rectified it. Kriss even upsold my boyfriend on a better com system. Kudos to her! We walked out loyal and satisfied customers once again. I will now be patronizing this Cycle Gear as my "go to" store and seek out Kriss when I need advice or assistance. read more

This place is awesome and their customer service is great. Over this past weekend I was in with my boyfriend, looking to purchase my first helmet for his motorcycle. Now, I knew nothing of different styles of helmets for different styles of street bikes. But Ryan, was super helpful and knowledgable. He got me fitted with an extremely reputable helmet brand and even helped me find a graphic of my liking. While they didn't have my size in the helmet of my choosing, Ryan got it ordered and let me go home with a similar helmet to ensure that I was comfortable with the fit of it. This place is great! My husband is the bike owner, and soon after we moved here, he wanted to get an ikon vest to wear on base, as per military regulations. Of course, they had them! We have gone here everytime we have needed something for the bike, and we have received nothing but excellent service. Everyone here is kind and very helpful. If all the employees are busy at the time, they'll still stop and let you know they'll be right with you. What a novel idea! They'll find whatever you need, or will try to order it for you. All the employees are very knowledgeable; whatever question we have, they've been able to answer it. We've bought accessories, parts, that vest, and a helmet (for me!) here. I have been a long distance motorcycle rider for over 28 years. After 5 Harley and being totally fed up with the breakdowns and repairs, I switched to Handa Goldwing back in 2015...BEST MOVE EVER! My longest solo ride was 24,500 miles traveling all 49 states, 3 provinces in Canada along with the Yukon. I wanted to take time now to complement Erik Mineau in their Parts Department and the entire Service Department. Erik assisted in providing me with his incredible expertise and extensive information about the latest new mideular helmets currently on the market or soon to be available. After several lengthy discussions with Erik and research I did on the net, I decided on the new Shoei Neotec 2 helmet and the fully integrated Sena SRL communication system that wAs designed for the Neotec 2 helmet. Erik kept in constant contact with me until the new Neotec 2 helmets were released. Once the helmets arrived after the release date, he again contacted me and was unbelievably helpful in size, setting it up, and integrating the Sena SRL system into the helmet. I have to say that in riding for more than 28 years, Erik's service along with NCHOM's superb service department over the past 3 years has been nothing less than a perfect 10! Hats off to a great dealership and a truly great staff!! Erik, I sincerely appreciate your knowledge, patience and professionalism. In 6 weeks, I am headed from my home in Carlsbad Ca for a solo ride to Nova Scotia and back. I can't wait to strap on my new Shoei Neotec 2 helmet and hit the road. I went in today looking for a new pair of riding boots, but for the three kind that I was looking at, they did not have my size in any of them. I was told they could order them, but what's the point of going to a store to order something, I can do that from home. They had a lot of larger sizes and a lot of smaller sizes, Which obviously were not selling. Business 101, is that you bring in what sells and you remove what does not sell. But I guess instead of bringing in new merchandise, it's easier just to offer to order it. Went here with my girlfriend yesterday, as she's in need of a new backpack. Both myself and her are working adults and we use our motorcycles to commute with, as such we both always have backpacks on over all our gear. We found a backpack she liked, and it was obviously brand new and had the security tag on it, but no price tag. We took it to the front of the store to see how much it was. The girl working behind the counter tried to find the price but couldn't and after a few minutes told us we could look around and she would come tell us the price, so we did. We were looking around the store for a good 15 minutes or so, about ready to leave when the manager approaches us. We think he must have the price but instead -in front of several customers no less- he asks us to please turn in our backpacks to the front counter. I was confused, shocked and in the manner he asked us we were both quite embarrassed. My girlfriend didn't mind, although she was quite uncomfortable at that point. I simply took mine outside and locked it to my bike. People take purses in stores and are not asked to turn those in. Our backpacks are rather small to and have very expensive laptops in them, I don't want them just thrown around behind a desk. I've never had anyone, in any store ask me this before and I've been commuting on motorcycles for 10 years. On the way back in, I looked on the front door, the windows, inside the store, everywhere for a sign that may say "no backpacks beyond this point" or "please check backpacks in at front desk". Nothing. I was rather upset and approached the manager about the issue and told him I felt he was very rude to us. He just looked at me blankly and awkwardly tried to shake my hand while saying "I'm sorry you feel that way". He acknowledged that there were no signs for it and said "It's not company policy, I just do this to keep the store safe on my own notion." He did not even admit that there needed to be a sign up warning people. At this point me and my girlfriend were just baffled and amazed and decided to leave. As we are walking to the front of the store a man walks in with two dogs, OFF the leashes and walks right past the manager. Not a single thing is said to the man and the dogs are just roaming around in the store at their own will. The manager himself was not very presentable acting OR looking either, sporting a dirty old hoody and some old blue jean shorts. He looked more like he was ready to do some yard work or visit the Home Depot down the street. I will never, ever visit this place again and recommend no one else wastes their business there either. I go to the motorcycle dealerships in the area all the time and they are all very friendly, professional and welcoming. Why anyone would go to CycleGear above them is beyond me but hopefully after reading this, people will know just where NOT to take their hard earned money. read more

I came in with a flat tire on my Harley on a Friday night at 5:45 the guy sold me a tube and pulled some strings and got a place up the street to do a tire change for me 15 minutes before the place closed. If it wasn't for these guys I would have been stranded. It helped that one of the sales guys had the same bike as me either way I appreciate these guys and I'll bring my business to them from now on. read more

We were the first in the door and last people to be helped. Just looking for oil and oil filter's for common bike and the staff was not helpful at all. We were left standing in the oil section because they didn't know how much I oil the bike took or what type of filter so they left us. One tended to somebody looking for a helmet and the other one trying to get somebody with Bluetooth. Poor customer service. read more

I called to see if they could swap a tire for me and they assured me they could. Drove over and they then told me they couldn't do it because they only had one person on staff that day for the shift. I never complain about store associates being busy but it's pretty lame to be told to come down and then be turned away. Waste of time and poorly managed. I went down the street to North County Yamaha and they did it right then and for less than cycle gear. Moral of the story is cycle gear will tell you one thing and do another. The customer service is awesome here. They are so friendly. Their prices are comparable to what you see online (because I've searched on Amazon and Google while in the store). I haven't asked them about price matching, but I also never needed to. I've visited this establishment four times, two times with purchases and two times because the helmet I got just did not work for me. Return/exchange experience: They had no problem exchanging it for a different size the first time, and for a completely different model the second time. I originally purchased an ATG helmet that fit really funny after two size changes. I finally upgraded to a SHOEI and it's an awesome helmet. Love it. Purchase: Purchased a gift for my boyfriend. They were extremely helpful. I even purchased it for him, then realized that I forgot to pick up a new helmet visor and they had already locked their doors, but still let me in to purchase the visor. Staff is so-so. Off-road selection is okay. Seems this place is more for street bikes than off road. It does have some good accessories. Prices are a little above average. Found some cool stuff on clearance. What does set this place apart is cheap tire repair. About half the price to change a tire than other shops in the area. read more

Went in to get a part for my Kawi and the guy didn't have a clue. He looked in like 4 books and even went to the internet looking. I even gave him the part number and he told me that could not be the part. Well after like 15 minutes I decided that was enough and went to another shop. These folks have one of the largest selections of motorcycle gear in North SD County! Bonus: everyone that works here is very knowledgeable & helpful - as a new female rider, I felt totally comfortable asking for help & getting the customer service I'd expect from any great business. Notably, most of what they sell is from the 2 brands that they own, but at the very least, this is a good place to go to get to know your sizes for things like gloves, jackets, and helmets (the quality of their own brands is still pretty good).
