I've only ordered DoorDash from Cyclone Anaya's twice, but both times were solid enough for me to already know what I'd consider ordering if I visit the restaurant in person. You really can't beat their $12 meal specials, especially the summer special. Idk if available in person but on the app, it's the way to go. Comes with rice and beans, a carne molida enchilada, crispy taco, and chicken tinga chalupa. For the price, it's a very meaty, filling combo and honestly delicious too. I was especially impressed that the taco was still crispy by the time it arrived, because we all know delivery tacos can turn soggy real fast. The chalupa comes with a scoop of guac. The first time was so good, the second delivery, guac tasted old like avocados on their last day. I also tried the beef enchilada $12 special, which comes with two enchiladas packed with ground beef. That one was good too, but the summer special is definitely the better deal in my opinion. Last time I added an a la carte tamale, and that was solid as well. One small thing I appreciated: the bag comes stapled shut and they write your name on it. Simple touch, but it makes the order feel a little more cared for and secure. I visited Cyclone Anaya's on Gray Street last month for a friend's birthday dinner, and I honestly expected a much better experience. I'm a big fan of the CityCentre location and have always had great food and service there, so this visit was disappointing. The first thing that stood out was the restroom. It was dirty, with wet paper towels all over the floor and countertops, and one of the stalls didn't even have toilet paper. It looked like it hadn't been checked in hours. I let our waiter know, and he said he would notify management. There were only seven people in our party, including a 3-year-old, but our waiter struggled to get both drink and food orders to the correct people. It honestly felt like he might have been new. While the service was frustrating, he remained polite and apologized several times, so I don't place all the blame on him. I ordered the enchiladas. Since I hadn't eaten all day, I was starving, and the food took quite a while to arrive. After waiting that long, I expected it to come out piping hot. Instead, it was only warm, and the enchiladas meat looked dry inside the tortilla. They also lacked cheese and sauce. There wasn't any cheese inside the enchiladas, just a very small amount sprinkled on top. I sent them back and simply asked if they could add more sauce and cheese. The waiter apologized and brought me a fresh plate that was hot. They put more sauce, but the enchiladas were still dry, still lacked cheese, and were overall pretty tasteless. To top it off, I was the only person who asked for plastic utensils for my leftovers, and even those were given to the wrong person. I had to remind the waiter that I was the one who requested them. In the end, I ate my spinach and beans because those were good enough, but I took the enchiladas home so I could doctor them up to make them enjoyable. I know Cyclone Anaya's can do better because the CityCentre location consistently delivers a great experience. Unfortunately, this Gray Street location missed the mark on cleanliness, food quality, and overall service. I hope management addresses these issues because the restaurant has a lot of potential. read more

We went at 3pm on Saturday afternoon, so there were maybe 5 or 6 tables seated at the time. We were warmly welcomed by the hostess and then quickly greeted by our waiter who was amazing. First we ordered drinks. Margaritas and the mixed drinks were on point but they were out of most of the beer listed on the menu. The beers that were delivered were cool at best. Even with a cold glass we needed to add ice to even make them enjoyable. A few more tables began to arrive so we went ahead and placed our food order. Nothing out of the ordinary, quesadillas, nachos, chicken mole. It took almost an HOUR from the time we placed our order until we received very mediocre food. AN HOUR!!!! We all had to add time to our parking meters. When we asked, we were told "It's crazy back there" if it's crazy back there in between busy times, what's it like during a rush?!? Plus the food was mehhhh. How in the hell do they serve a $24 place with a plastic spoon for the charro beans. From making sure we had our drinks topped off to clearing away our emptied plates, the staff was on it. Cyclone Anayas came as a recommendation. We were greeted as soon as we came in and were able to get a table quickly. We all had the margaritas which they offered two sizes of which were very good and had a good amount of alcohol. We started off with appetizers having the queso, the egg rolls and the brisket empanadas (would recommend!). The appetizers were fresh and tasted very good. I had the lunch portion of the chicken fajitas, which were very tasty and came out sizzling and well seasoned. It came with flour tortillas, you had an option of corn tortillas as well, pico de gallo, rice and I originally wanted the chipotle garlic spinach as a side but was given brussels sprouts by mistake. Although I did receive brussels sprouts they were tasty with some type of glaze on them and I was ok with having them. They did offer to bring the chipotle garlic spinach but I declined. Service. This location is ideal spot for high traffic but it's very very low traffic and I will tell you why. The service is nearly nonexistent. Few tables and more servers than clientele so it should be a simple task to be served. Greeted right away. Very friendly. Good start. After viewing the menu & choosing entrees, the server never came back nor did the drinks we ordered come. We are talking a LONG time because the servers go to a large table outside the main dining room where they sit & socialize, are on their phones, etc. - while you are waiting to order. Time has stopped for them, Finally the servers came & took our order. But the drinks still hadn't come and the bar was not busy. The bartender was socializing with one group of folks at the bar vs making drinks for others. He had to be reminded to make the drinks. So lesson learned is your restaurant is suffering because your wait staff would rather socialize with others vs serving the customers. Besides an awful green sauce, the food was fairly good. This place is extremely overpriced for the quality. The location and prices do not match what's being served or the service. The taste of the food is decent. The chips are more like what they sell in the bags in grocery stores. The salsa is decent and has a bit of a kick. The egg rolls were pretty good. The amount of chicken in the egg rolls was minimal. Cyclones is a Houston Staple and their brunch and happy hour are on point! We have tons of Tex-Mex here in Houston but, for a chain, Cyclones is in my top 3. They take pride in their dishes and how they're prepared because the flavor doesn't vary by location. You know what you're getting, and you'll def get your monies worth every visit. I haven't done dinner here in yet, I frequent the bar because my friends and I love a good margarita and some solid happy hour nibbles to nosh on while we chat and catch up on life. There are two managers who were there tonight. I'm not sure of their names but it was two women. One with locs and one with a sewin. Both were black. Now I understand large parties can cause stress on the staff, but that does not mean you are rude to customers. Especially being that we have been there so many times. Yes we have preferred servers and always sit with them. Tonight we couldn't sit where we'd like. Understandable. But when another booth opened we were told we couldn't sit there either even though it wasn't a reserved area. And it's not what you do it's how you do it. The tone and language used was ABSOLUTELY insane and uncalled for. I have been in food service on many different levels and you never ate ugly to the customers ESPECIALLY to their face. Do better! I go to this restaurant because I love the food and the service. There are many restaurants we can go and spend our money but we choose to go here as often as we go. I want to preface this review with that I come here frequently and this is the first time I received this type of service/treatment here. So it may be a one off, however, I can't ignore what happened to me today. I went to eat lunch here and I was waiting for about 3 minutes when a family came behind me and was waiting as well. One of the staff (white male 20s) came to the front door to sit the line and he completely ignored me and went to the family behind me. Before I could say anything, the family informed him that I was there before them. He informed me that the bartender told him that he would take care of me and that's why he skipped me. Cool. I understand that. Miscommunication happens. I sit down. The staff tells me that he apologizes and he will get me some water, chips and salsa. About two minutes later I see them bring water, chips and salsa to the family that was behind me in line while I sat there with nothing on my table. I already forgave the first time for skipping me but after you apologize for the overlook/miscommunication, you then continue to skip over me and service the people behind me. Yeah, no. A line was crossed. I asked the other wait staff that came to my table to see the manager, told him about the deplorable treatment and now I'm at Gloria's Latin cuisine writing this review. The ONLY reason I am giving Cyclones 2 stars is because the new waiter ( white female 20s) that came to check up on me afterwards brought me water, chips and salsa immediately without knowing anything prior to her coming to the table. We visited this location on National Margarita Day around 7pm. Let me start with the service from the manager was horrible. He was rude and didn't try to fix any of our issues. We waited a hour and half for 4 empanadas which arrived doughy and undercooked. The lemonade tasted like syrup. The margaritas were horrible! Not to mention they ran out of jumbo margarita glasses so they were giving us 2 small glasses as the jumbo replacement. It was unheard of for drinks/food to take a hour and half plus dealing with a rude sarcastic manager. I visit other Cyclone Anayas locations often so I know great service and food when received. So, Josh if you're reading this you're welcome and also I'll be back for my free ~queso.~ They have a really great happy hour that lasts until 7. Good job, Cyclone. I was settled on getting the happy hour shrimp quesadillas, however I was told that they were small in size. Like half of a half small, no thanks. I ended up going with the regular shrimp quesadillas that were 13 dollars for half an order. Sent them back because the shrimp was undercooked. No ma'am & no sir. I made a decision to order two fish (tilapia) tacos from the happy hour menu. 2 for 8 dollars. They were soooo good, very fresh and hella filling. I highly recommend them. I have been a total of 4 times, 3 times at this location and 1 time at another. The food was great across the board but the service was very accommodating at this particular location. Our server Trey catered to all of our needs each visit and the bartender Jess never misses with the drinks. The Bomba shrimp and the Brussels sprouts are TOP TIER! The manager Jackie is doing a phenomenal job managing this location. It shows with who she employs to serve the Cyclone Community. Cyclone Anaya's is a nice go-to if you're craving standard Tex-Mex that won't disappoint you and that will satisfy a variety of taste preferences if you're with a group. This particular location is super convenient. A few coworkers and I stopped by for happy hour after the World Series parade earlier this week (Go 'Stros!!!). You can order from the Happy Hour menu regardless of where you sit so no need to sit at the bar if you don't want to. $5 house margaritas $10 large 'ritas They've also got great food options on the happy hour menu such as queso, empanadas (brisket, chicken or shrimp), flautas, quesadillas, sliders (my coworker was not a fan of the sliders fyi). I had 2 regular sized house 'ritas, a couple of empanadas, some quesadillas and queso w/ ground meat (queso molida), got good and full for about $35 with tip! The service was also great despite them being short staffed and serving people on World Series Parade day. A little slow but again they were short staffed on a big day plus I was in no hurry so no major complaints from me there. The only other minor thing I would complain about is that the tortilla chips came out room temperature and the first basket of chips they brought out were stale. But given the circumstances of the day the chip situation wasn't too big of a deal. Overall a great experience and I'd gladly return. read more
