This place is a gem. It was a little hard to find (look for the blue awning) but once there, it's adorable with a great outdoor seating area. My friend and I split a few small plates, and the unanimous favorite was the roasted feta. I'm drooling thinking of it! Texture, tang, toasty sweetness. The falafel was good but the grape leaves were better! Great spices for both. My friend enjoyed the spanakopita and I had the moussaka which was just ok. We both liked our cocktails and the desserts were enjoyable, if not ideal. I had the lemon mousse with pasta and wish it were more lemony; my friend had the baklava and wished it was crisper (it was rolled rather than layered). A couple dishes and the atmosphere definitely get five stars, but there were some missteps. Oh, and the manager is fabulous...he has some great stories! read more

Without question one of the best restaurants. To be clear I have traveled the US for 25+ years on business and dined in hundreds of fine restaurants. Cypriana stands out in the top 5 for any cuisine. Why? - the ingredients are fresh, the recipes are authentic and the flavors are incredible. Bonus - a great relaxed atmosphere. Our adult son had the Pork Belly and Butt and described as the best meat ever. (I tried it too and must agree). It turns out this pork is specially imported from Chile, marinated, cooked for 12 hours and finished on the grill. Just one of the three incredible entrees we enjoyed, plus two appetizers, plus two desserts. And the Cyprus coffee! All this without feeling over full since the food wasn't rich or processed. MAKE RESERVATIONS ON THE WEEKEND. Our party of three showed up at 7pm on a Friday night. The dining room reminded me of a European restaurant in that it felt intimate and warm. The hostess was rather unnecessarily hostile when I told her we didn't make a reservation and I think she just wanted me leave... However, a friend of the owner, Jack, came and saved the day. He warmly greeted us and explained they were pretty booked but he'd do everything to seat us quickly. (Which is really what the hostess should have done). We snagged a table shortly after and from there our waiter was attentive and the service was pretty quick. We had wine from Cyprus which was perfect for the meals we ordered. Their beef and pork was exactly as tender and juicy as you'd want it to be and the French fries were served with this phenomenal sauce - I ALWAYS eat mayo with my fries and I didn't even think to ask for it after trying the sauce they made. Despite the hostess snafu I really think they deserve 5 stars. read more

Hardly checked on us for long stretches of time even though the restaurant was half empty. Asked for the bill and then had to wave her over ~ 20 minute later to actually get the bill. We traveled quite some time to eat here and based on the website and the lovely conversation I had with Maria- we were really excited. I was asked to call the next week and place a reservation as Open Table was not yet taking the reservations and Maria told me she was looking forward to cooking for me. I recall telling my husband about the conversation and how impressed I was. I called the next week as promised and my call was not answered but after a few tries I received a text telling me they open at 5. I texted back that Maria asked me to call and make a reservation- the person texted me back and made the reservation. We arrived at 7 for our reservation and were quickly seated and ordered drinks & hummus. The hummus and pita bread was DIVINE and we started to feel at ease and that we made a great choice for our evening. Things quickly turned South- over an hour later we finally got our main meals. There had been no conversation with us regarding a delay and when they did bring the food out they only brought my husbands. He got the wrong side dish but he did think the crab cake was fantastic. I finally got my meal and it looked nothing like the menu described- when I voiced my dissatisfaction a gentleman came out and told me it was protein that was not what they ordered and had not meant to be cooked. My question is how it escaped the kitchen and wait staff- no one noticed it looked different or not up to their normal standards? Was really excited to try this restaurant after hearing good things from friends, but ended up being very disappointed with the service. We get to the restaurant and it's full, Saturday night understandable, so we're offered seats at the bar for drinks and appetizers and are told we will be moved to a table when one frees up. We get our appetizer which was the hummus and it was great! After waiting for a bit we ask the hostess whether we were getting a table and she says ten minutes until it's free. Table never comes. So we are fine with eating our full meal at the bar and order our entrees (grilled octopus and pork belly) We wait forty minutes no entrees, but the bartenders are both very apologetic and said that the owner was sent back to check on the food. Ten minutes later we overhear the owner point us out to a waiter and say "Go talk to them about the food...," so we were excited because that meant that we were getting some kind of explanation about what was taking so long. But then the owner and waiter walked away from us and never came over to talk to us about our food. After waiting ten more minutes we asked for the check and left. Bartenders told us not to worry about paying since they were also confused about what happened to the food. These two stars are for them. Meanwhile, the groups next to us are being seated at tables who have come in after us, not sure what went on there. Also seemed like a lot of the people around us were regulars and friends with the owners so I'm not sure if that affected the level of service they received but it shouldn't have. We came here on a Saturday for Baltimore restaurant week so it was packed. I thought they would be prepared, but it seemed like they were totally understaffed and surprised by the amount of people. We had a reservation. The hostess was like a deer in headlights. We did not get a welcome, menus were passed to another seater and we were sat within a few minutes. The hostess was so flustered that she gave us the wrong menus. Luckily our waiter was helpful and sorted out the menu situation. Food took forever, the waiter did check in to let us know the kitchen was backed up. He was also helpful since we needed to get back home to relieve the babysitter and managed to get our food out on time. The food was really good. I got the moussaka, grilled chicken and honey donuts. I have had better moussaka since the tastes was OK, but not amazing. The grilled chicken was spot on with some seasoned fries and salad. No ketchup for the fries, but that is just me. I want ketchup on my ketchup. The honey balls were amazing fresh, flavorful and yummy. My husband got the falafel which was some of the best we have had. Since he is veggie they made some portobello tops which was OK. The chocolate cake was lackluster. I would give this place a second chance, the food was good. One word: AMAZING!!!!! We started with the Keftedes, Falafel, Greek salad, and Warm feta (with honey and sesame). Everything was hot, perfectly cooked and incredible. Not a single flaw in any of these dishes. I could have bathed in that warm feta it was so good. On a side note, this food was extremely filling. We could have stopped after round one... But of course, we didn't. We had to try more. We couldn't resist the urge so we continued onward with the hummus and moussaka. I also ordered the EAU De Lavender cocktail which was a divine little concoction, worthy of the Greek Gods. We were going to try an entree but had no room left for another bite of anything. I really hate to say it, but the last few times we have been to Cypriana have been very disappointing. We had a few good experiences here but things have seen to go downhill. There was one time we went where we were told the wait to be seated was 10 minutes. So we sat at the bar to while we waited only to be seated 45 mins later. The manager came over and was very apologetic and we were forgiving as it was a busy night. So we let that one go. Then, the next two times we tried to go, we drove to the restaurant only to find there was no indoor dining? I checked their website, social media, and everything and there was no mention of being closed to indoor dining. This normally wouldn't have been a big deal to us, but we wasted 2 attempts trying to dine in and on the second one I called them and asked when they would be open as we wanted to dine in. The fact that this wasn't displayed anywhere on their website or google was frustrating as we make a drive to come here. The most recent visit left a bad taste in my mouth and we decided we don't want to go back for a while after this. We made reservations and were seated right away. We waited a while to be helped by a server, and finally when someone came over they said they'd help us and then we'd be getting a new server. No problem. They were both very friendly and it was busy. Anyways, we placed our drink and appetizer orders, both which took a while to come out (and we got our drinks much after we finished eating the appetizers). We ordered our entree and here's where the disappointment was - I ordered the lamb chops which were listed as market price. I guess shame on me for thinking they would be fairly priced. I order lamb chops quite a bit when we go out and have had them at many different restaurants around Baltimore, and even at upscale places the price is normally $30-$50. When this entree showed up, I was pretty underwhelmed with the flavor and the meat was pretty fatty. It was served with potatos and nothing else. A very basic meal. The bad moment came when we got the bill and found that the dish costed $60. I felt completely ripped off - that's very steep for lamb chops to begin with, and then add the fact that they were fatty and lacking flavor? We were shocked. This place also adds a gratuity to the bill which is nice for staff I guess (and our wait staff was very very friendly and lovely) but the whole thing just seemed like a money grab. Charging upscale prices for food and an experience that didnt seem upscale to us....big disappointment. I know Covid has been a hard time on restaurants but the last few experiences have just felt like chaos - not something you really want when you're paying hefty prices for a date night out. I've been eating at Maria and Vassos eateries since 1991. I always enjoy their food. Tonight I decided to try their new place. As soon as I walked in Maria saw me and took me on a tour of the restaurant. It's a big place with an upscale industrial look. The kitchen is enormous. Vegetarian meals are cooked on appliances used only for vegetarian dishes. She grows her herbs outside of the kitchen. For the first time Chef Maria can cook with wood instead of electricity. I didn't have much time so I just had a chicken pita w/ fries at the bar. The pita was terrific with fresh herbs, fresh everything, hormone free drug free chicken and their special tzatziki sauce. The fries are amazing. Next time I'll ask what they do to make them taste so good. The bartenders' Alex & Lou are very skilled helpful guys. Full course meal for my next visit. This restaurant is a very authentic Cypriana/Mediterranean cuisine! Everything we had from appetizers to the main course to the deserts is super delicious with the right amount of spices and portions and reminded all of us of back home being from the Middle East. The waiters are professional, the chef who personally came to our table to tell us about the specials and the owner/manager kept on visiting the table asking if everything was as we wanted, telling us jokes and very friendly. I never write reviews. I couldn't not write one for Cypriana. Not only was the food OUTSTANDING, the service was the best I've ever had. When the owner came over to greet us, he was extremely nice and courteous, and noticed I was sitting oddly. I recently pulled my back, and he offered to take me to the gym in the building here so I could stretch. That's not just above and beyond, that's one of a kind. Thankfully I had some meds I was able to take to relieve the pain, but just the thought counted x1000. They doted on my wife (who is 4 mos pregnant) and I honestly felt like I was at home having a wonderful meal. Onto the food. I spent a month in Greece a few years back, and we travel a decent bit to find good Mediterranean and Greek food - this was one of our favorites yet. I would love to give 5 stars, but there's a reason for 4. Out of the gate, Cypriana has everything going for it: gorgeous, post-modern setting, charming owners who come to your table, wonderful servers (Jericho, I'm talking to you!), and delicious food. Hell, they even have free off-street parking, but they lost me on two fronts. The food is terrific. It's fresh and tasty and there are almost no vegetables available, particularly green ones. That's my first beef. I love eggplant, but that's about the only veg one can order on its own or as a topping. Vasilo and Maria have a dynamite herb garden out back, so I am confused why a couple of great veg dishes with those herbs can't be added to the menu. Grilled rapini with herbed olive oil, walnuts, and Halloumi would be a go-to for me. Tomato salad, even a green salad would be helpful, just some option for veggies is needed. The other complaint is the music. Cypriana boasts an unfinished, industrial ceiling, polished concrete floor, no carpets, and no curtains. It's essentially all hard surfaces. Playing music in the dining room made it virtually impossible to hear the waiter, the owner, or the date. I never mind snuggling up to my date, but doing it because I can't hear what he has to say is a bummer. I love the sound of diners enjoying food and company and that is music enough for me. I will definitely go back, because the food is worth it, but until there are more veg options and no music in the dining area, it won't be as often as I would if those changes were made. read more

Cypriana provided all of the dinner food for a birthday party for 15 guests recently. It was ready on time, the suggested amounts were almost perfect, and we found their varied menu made great food for a buffet, in part because it can (mostly) be served at room temperature. The flatbread assortment made terrific appetizers (we did reheat those in the oven and cut them up before taking them around, they disappeared instantly!). Everyone thought it was delicious! I don't know who these other reviewers ate, but the food (all of it) was just not good, even the hummus . It was very dense and beany with very little tahini. The pita was thin and warm and limp, hard to use for the hummus. The cheese dishes were not good. I'd say the spinach pies were the best offering. The beef tenderloin kabob was tiny well flavored small pieces of meat only on a skewer, nicely seasoned, but arrive cold both times. There are no chicken kabobs. Everything was very oily. We had a little bit of almost all of the small plates and not one was really good. Maybe the flatbreads would be better? It would be a great location and Greek/ Mediterranean cuisine would do well here if it were professional. Alas this wonderful family with their high enthusiasm would do well to reconsider the cooking. My family ate here for a late dinner on a Tuesday night and we were impressed from start to finish. Our server was incredibly friendly and extremely helpful in describing the dishes as well as offering a bit of guidance. This food was simply excellent. While there was a huge variety of delicious sounding entrees and specials we highly recommend making a meal for your table from a variety of the small plates. From the six small salads to the falafel (wonderful'), Mediterranean meatballs (best ever - so light and flavorful), roasted olives - (delicious) , stuffed grape leaves (so amazing) . Date night here yesterday -- what a gem, tucked away in the Roland Park / Tuscany-Canterbury neighborhood! It's close to University and 39th but not visible from University (the main road in this area), so you have to know what you're looking for. They do have free parking for customers, however! What stood out to me was how delicious the food was, the relaxed atmosphere, and how warm the staff were. They were genuinely hospitable and seemed happy to be there. They were very attentive in exactly the right way. I met a lovely JHU undergrad and some young men from around the Baltimore area. Someone said that the waiters weren't professional... but they were warm and polite and kind and did their jobs very well in my opinion. "Is this your first time here?" "Yes" "Welcome! You're going to love it!" The food has all the good qualities of restaurant food (namely, it's delicious, beautiful, and brought to you) and none of the bad (overcooked, heavy). We enjoyed two glasses of greek wine -- a rose and a white. Before I keep writing, I want to mention that spouse and I are vegetarian, so we can't tell you how the octopus was or anything like that (but rest assured, the menu covers all food groups and diets). I think it would be very easy to eat here if you were vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or had other dietary restrictions. They cook the food and make everything there, so it's easy to know the ingredients. We ordered the salad/dips plate the beet salad is delicious but not elsewhere on the menu -- be sure to ask for it!) with pita. The pita alone is something to write home about -- it was lightly spiced and had toasted sesame seeds on it. We got the grilled eggplant, which was perfectly smoked and came with a tahini dip that was out of this world. I don't know what was in it other than sesame seeds, but I should have asked. We also got a flatbread. The spinach and feta has homemade pesto, which was amazing. We were too full for dessert, sadly, but next time. I live close, so if I don't want to cook... I know what to do! The single star is too much. I usually don't review, but these reviews are misleading. I've been in the area for a long time so it was nice to see a new place in the neighborhood. Their brunch was overpriced, even by new york city standards, and the food quality was at or below par. The interior is meh, but also, the amount they charge is not justified by its ambiance or decor. Our server never came by to fill the water even though there were only a few other customers and we finished our water cause everything was so salty, except the baklava which didn't seem made in-house. There was so little food we walked out as if we hardly ate with a ~$50 bill for two people. I do hope they improve, but our experience was not even close to what others are saying. read more

At first I was concerned that we were underdressed because of how nice the decor was, but the owner came to the table and was so personable and welcoming. The cocktails were delicious and combined some really interesting flavors. The food was excellent and everything was fresh. Despite the fact that everything was small plates, it was all very filling. Definitely recommend the mushroom soup and the falafel. We probably would have been completely satisfied eating nothing but the wood oven baked pita bread but we ended up taking dessert to go because baklava Belgian waffles sounded too good to pass up. WOW - what a treat !! We've been fans of Maria since she had a food cart on the corner of Baltimore & Light St across from Alex. Brown. She's made Cypriana of Roland Park a culinary extension of her Greek roots... fantastic "street food" that is anything but. Awesome gyros, salads and the tarragon taziki dressing is to die for!! (We always ask for extra on the side :) The decor is more like SF than Baltimore, which is uber cool... love the firewood space dividers!
