Came here in 2021 so this is definitely a dated review. But I'm clearing out my drafts, and think this place deserves a review. I came here with friends for a brunch. A Saturday in Aug. we dress up cute, and the aesthetic of the restaurant matched. As a post pandemic outing, we liked that it wasn't too crowded, and the tables spacing. We enjoyed the vibe and service. The food was good too. (That's the only thing I have pictured actually.) I don't remember specifics on the drinks, but I do remember the mimosas had us singing while we were walking out, and still onto the street. lol Overall a good experience. Will revisit, and review again soon
I went to this restaurant for a breast cancer event. Upon arrival, I noticed the restaurant was pretty empty with only four other patrons. My assumption is that the event wasn't advertised enough. More diners arrived before we left but not a crowd. Our server, Chanel greeted us pleasantly. She made recommendations and we ordered based on her knowledge of the food. The fish cakes were tasty but quite spicy. The aioli helped provide a cooling effect for my mouth. Next up as our entrees. My friend had the pancakes and I had the French toast. I added on turkey bacon and eggs with cheese. This meal was divine. The French toast were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was so sweet so I didn't bother adding syrup. Compliments to the chef for getting my eggs right. The cheese was folded nicely into the eggs. Just needed to add salt and pepper to make it perfect. I had to deduct one star for the lack of seasoning. There was a dj playing music that made you want to dance and some people actually did just that. I noticed big tv screens showing a football game. I totally think I will be back to sit at the bar and watch a basketball game.
Finally made it to this local spot in the neighborhood. Parking is on the street, for the most part that's good. Arrived at 6:15 pm and that is the switchover timing from brunch (Sunday) to dinner. Decor is nice, music was a bit LOUD, have to yell at my companions. I guess they were still in "turn up brunch mode." Had the appetizers of wings, mussels and mango habanero fried shrimps. Wings are wings so not much to say about that. The mussels were very good and the sauce that it came in made it better. Bao buns were tasty as well. Temptation island drink, don't have too many, fruity version of a Long Island and the coconut margarita For dinner we ordered berry jerk short ribs, very tasty, cooked to perfection and the berry sauce is nice, came with mashed potatoes and veggies. Five spice glazed salmon was also cooked to perfection with garlic mash and veggies. Whoever is isn't the kitchen knows what they are doing. I will come back and definitely will do the brunch just to see the whole vibe of things. Overall a neighborhood gem. Took away a star because of the music level.
I was nervous going here because I have not heard good things. But I was pleasantly surprised! The food was the bomb, we all shared our dishes and we all enjoyed everything. The pancakes were so moist and fluffy, the shrimp and grits flavorful and creamy, the chicken and waffle with the spicy sweet combo. Service was good too. Could've been better but it wasn't bad. They had a DJ during brunch so it was pretty loud but the vibes were fun!
I visited on a Sunday early afternoon and was able to be seated right away. Parking was easy and the restaurant didn't have too many patrons. The customer service was OK, no complaints but nothing out of the ordinary. The ambience was beautiful, but it was just very dark inside, so it will take a while for your eyes to adjust when you leave. As for the food, it was great, but the sangria was underwhelming. It was watered down and tasteless but thankfully the French toast, bacon, and eggs were not, and I enjoyed them very much. This was my first time visiting this establishment and I don't see myself returning .
The service wasn't bad but we waited a little while for our drinks and food. The food was pretty good overall.
I went to a party for my friend and their family. The service was very disappointing. From the moment we arrived, we sat at the table for a while. The restaurant wasn't busy as well. Our orders took forever to be taken, and we waited over an hour for food. We assumed everything would come out together, but there were multiple issues: - Several items from the brunch menu were unavailable. They could have told us right from the start or block the option instead having us to choose and then find out on the spot. - Some drinks were also out of stock. I waited over an hour for my drink, only to find out they didn't have it--no one told me until I asked. I ended up ordering something else and it was water down. - The food didn't arrive for about 1.5 hours. - The food was just okay--the home fries were better than my main entrée and my partner entrée. He had lobster and waffles, while I had Thai Chili Chicken and Red Velvet Waffles. Overall, the service was slow, disorganized, and gave the impression there might have been only one cook in the kitchen. The menu looked good, but left with disappointment. In total we were at the restaurant nearly three hours. I do say they have good music, but that's about it.
First we had a pulsd deal and this place is amazing. We came from Harlem but it was definitely worth the trip. So we ordered a lot of food and all the food we ordered was delicious and well cooked. Our server was great he was a really nice guy. First he was very attentive and all his suggestions worked. He also made sure to let us know if we had more money left in our credit. He would check in on us and ask us about the food. The manager also came over to ask about our experience. The owner also came over to introduce himself and ask about our experience. Now the good part the food. We ordered the loaded wontons and the oxtail dumplings. The loaded wontons were really good they had a good amount of toppings which complimented each perfectly. It was great and I recommend it. The oxtail dumplings were also really good and they were so good we got two orders. For the main entree we ordered the butter shrimp with the fried rice; the jerk beef and shrimp and the oxtail ramen. I tasted my niece's shrimps and they were really good; a nice taste. I also tried the jerk beef and shrimp stir fry and that was really good. The seasonings were really good and the texture of the food was also good; the noodles were not overcooked. My oxtail ramen was good flavorful but the noodles were overcooked so they can try to execute that differently with the noodles. For dessert we had the red velvet cake and the bread pudding. Both desserts were really good. The bread pudding was amazing so delicious and it was homemade and soft. I loved that bread pudding and I recommend it 100%. Also don't let the outside fool you; I thought it was dark because it looked different from the outside but this is definitely a place you have to go to. The inside is so beautiful, well lit and it feels like I have been transported somewhere warm. I recommend this place fully and my whole family enjoyed it too.
It's was girls night out and my friend found Czen which is a neighborhood bar/restaurant. I honestly don't know how long they've been there but it's a hidden gem. It's a cozy space and I'm sure if it isn't already, it will become a neighborhood favorite. The food is delicious. We ordered the Tempura fish cakes, Shanghai Jerk chicken and the Honey butter garlic shrimp. The entrees include your choice of rice and peas or white rice and bok choy. I also recommend the Rum punch. The DJ was amazing. The only flaw in my opinion was the lack of servers. We had to wait for the 1 and only server to come take our order and it was a little bit of a wait for the appetizer to come out. There was a huge group celebrating a birthday and the server was attending to them and in turn, every other patron had to wait for him to come around. Other than that, it was a great night out. They have Happy hour during the week from 4-7pm and food specials on Thursdays and Fridays. If you're in the neighborhood, check them out. Eat, drink and enjoy!
This place was so chaotic. I had it saved on my bookmarks and I was so disappointed at the experience. We arrived at 6:55, we didn't get our food until 8:03. Between the long wait, them moving furniture (while patrons are eating) unprofessional customer service and overpriced underwhelming drinks, I won't be back. The food was decent, but again, underwhelming, hence the 2 stars.
Out to celebrate my friend birthday with good drink and good vibes. First please make a reservation, it is a small location but the vibe is good as well as the food. The DJ was playing a mix of hip hop rnb reggae and Afro beat that spoke to me and the cuisine. I was seated at the reserved table as soon as I walked in and was offered water immediately. Menus for food and drink specials were at the table set up along with tableware. I had a drink called a temptation and it was so good. The food was flavorful and well made. I will be visiting this spot again for the food and the vibe.
Went to dinner with my friend here last night. The place is relatively small but the space is utilized well. The Decor is cute and colorful. The service was good, the waitress was helpful with helping me decide what to get, since It was my first time. Had the oxtail dumpling which I thought were tasty. My friend had the shrimp, good but I liked the oxtail better. Lychee martini was my choice of drink and they were good. For my entree I had the Berry jerk short ribs, Comes with garlic mash and a side of veggies. I was underwhelmed, the mash was bland and the jerk sauce was just ok, also felt the ribs were a bit overcooked and dry. My friend had the oxtail dish, which she felt was mostly bone. I would come back to give another dish a try, if in the area. But not a place I'd go out of my way for.
Dinner and a vibe on a Friday. Beautiful Decor Asian style theme with a Caribbean vibe. They had a live dj that kept us all dancing in our seats. And everything was delicious. Only con was that the wait for food was very long despite them not being very busy. But I would give them a try again.
The food hands down was amazing. I literally wanted to asked to see who the chef was and shake their hands because the food was amazing. The atmosphere was calm. They play Afro beat Caribbean music. It was not to loud it was at a perfect level. This place is a gem. Check it out read more

I have a list of restaurants I want to visit this just so happen to be one of the places i saw and was like yup we're going there. I also got confirmation from a mutual friend about their oxtail dumplings so I knew we was going there. The ambience is amazing at least me to there's a mixture of Asian and Caribbean exactly the representation of what the restaurant is there's umbrellas on the ceiling it's cute I love it. Now let's get to the food for starters we order the oxtail dumplings They were as just amazingly delicious as I expected them to be they were juicy and so soft and tender just the way we like them. We also ordered 2 of their signature drinks (Czen punches ) they were very,very good and strong just how I like them. Definitely ended the night with a slight buzz after 2 Czen punches. Now let's get down to the entrees I ordered the salmon it came with mashed potatoes veggies now I will say this I have a huge love/hate relationship with salmon I feel like people/restaurants don't make good salmon I always feel like it's bland, chewy,fishy (my opinion) yet I continue to order salmon because I like it when it's made properly. Since this place is supposed to be so good I said let me try salmon. Very very happy that my choice was salmon. It was season right and the mango sauce that was drizzled on it made it even better it was tender and juicy just how I like it very happy with my decision. My boyfriend order the ramen oxtail bowl the restaurant was out so he had to pick another choice. He chose the garlic shrimp with white rice ,bok choy. He said the shrimp were very good he loved them. (I agree I had one to ) The waiter was nice and attentive can't remember her name. We waited awhile for our food that's my only complaint other than that we had a great time. ohhhhhhh and we didn't even know there were comedians coming to perform. The show was ok I enjoyed it. Overall I would most definitely recommend this spot to who ever is looking for some good Caribbean-Asian food. Oh I forgot to mention lastly this spot is so deep in Brooklyn in New York (on Utica) For me the travel is worth it especially if the food is better than you expected it to be. I went to Czen and the pros are the salmon and drinks were REALLY great. Had the Rum punch and Czen punch and the 5 spice glazed Salmon (well seasoned and fresh ) I didn't get to try the the Berry Jerk Wings because it was a Friday during lent, but my friend said he enjoyed it. I really hated the Czen Roll I chose. It was the shrimp sushi roll. The veggies in it made it too heavy for the chop sticks to pick up and the taste wasn't good, very bland. I hope they fix this. The venue's decor and layout is really nice. The bartender was very friendly. The $5 margaritas actually taste really good. The oxtail dumplings were made well, corn soup tasted great, and so did the jerk wings. The DJ had us dancing in our seats almost the entire night. I give credit where it's due. CZEN deserves kudos for their response to an awful experience my sister endured. When they read our negative reviews for CZEN the managers immediately reached out to my sister and I with the promise to reimburse the false no show charge and apologize for our experience. They reiterated that Open Table had never informed them of the error. This kind of behavior is what separates a good business from a successful, great business. They acknowledged their error and immediately rectified it. Thank you CZEN for admitting your error and taking steps to apologize and rectify it! read more

Czen is a Caribbean Asian Fusion restaurant. They really incorporated both cuisines and perfected it. The food here was very good. Although, our waitress was very sweet and apologetic. I felt the kitchen was probably backed up. I noticed a lot of people waiting for food probably to go orders or food deliveries. Also, I know they were transitioning from brunch to dinner food. The drink orders didn't take as long as the food. I like they have umbrellas now to protect you from this crazy sun and heat. Their rum punch and their frozen rum punch are lethal. You can also get them Frozen. I tried the Czen Rum Punch with Hennessy and it was really strong and tasty. The 5 Spice Salmon with the udon noodles and mixed veggies were so good. That glaze on the salmon was mouthwatering and the salmon was huge. This was a filling meal. My friends also enjoyed their food. One had a chicken salad and her shrimp roll was good. My oxtail roll would've been great but it kept breaking apart. My other two friends had the bao buns and oxtails for their entree. We weren't rushed at all from our seats and the music was great. Went on a Sunday night with my cousins. Caribbean music was on point however, it was a little noisy due to Sunday night football at the bar. I made a reservation and we were seated right away. Our waiter was attentive, and we didn't wait too long for our food or drinks. For our drinks, I have the rum punch and my cousins had some thing called the entanglement, which was very strong and good! For appetizers, one of my cousins had the fried wings, another had chicken dumplings, and my cousin, and I had bao buns. I was disappointed to hear that they didn't have oxtail dumplings, which is what I was most excited to try. For our entrées, one of my cousins had the honey butter, garlic shrimp, I had the curry shrimp and my other two cousins had, the salmon, which were all 10 out of 10. I would definitely go again! This was my first time going to Czen with my friend for brunch and had a really good time. They do a really good job of keeping groups socially distant. Temperature is taken at the door. Everything feels safe and sanitized. I recommend making a reservation before going. The food was really good. I had the fried lobster tail and waffle which I enjoyed. We shared the rolls. The oxtail rolls were really good. Staff was really nice. We shown the back area where they also accommodate outdoor dining, partially enclosed with heat lamps. I love a Caribbean fusion mix! Everything has a there own little twist and I can't stress enough how much I love restaurants that have flexibility and are customizable. There czen bowls are a perfect example of getting what you want how you want it! For an appetizer I have the oxtail dumplings they were breathtaking honestly lol and I have my czen bowl with salmon and white rice I wish I got rice and peas but the white rice was still good enough for me I had some of my dates and it was good! Also PSA for the parents they had an options for chicken tenders and fries for the little one which to me is a great because not a lot of restaurants in the city these days accommodate Children. read more

Went for brunch with friends and was pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere. Cool vibes, music and friendly staff. Made reservations but they didn't have it in the system which ended up being my error, but my party of 6 was accommodated. Drinks were good but pricey. Appetizers were great and so was the main meal. I've been following on IG from day 1 waiting impatiently for them to open. Once I stepped in, I reminisced on my good up friend that previously owned this place and it hurt my heart. They made thise place their own. The decor went along well with the whole vibe and menu. My friend ordered the oxtail roll and enjoyed every bite. I had the corn soup which was too thick, salty and overwhelming. We both ordered the marley medley,l- basically veggies in red curry sauce that lacked gravy. It was basic. I wouldn't have that the next time I go. My rum punch was so good courtesy of the bartender I remember working previously at Footprints. He is the only thing that's encouraging me to try this place again. Our waitress took forever to get back and check in on on after we got out entree. I have been meaning to leave a review for this restaurant. I was very impressed with the options and the food was very good. I happen to be at the restaurant during a very busy time. I felt the service was also good, and were able to adapt to the influx of heavy traffic. Wait times were reasonable. Our server was very nice and knowledgeable of the menu. She made suggestions too. Delicious was really the first word that came to mind. Wonderful customer service, pleaseeee make a reservation. Even on the rainiest day of the year make a reservation. Although, I did not mind sitting at the bar to dine, I would have preferred table seating. But I know that is for reserved guest. I might add there is outdoor seating. However, on this particular evening it was totally rained out. Asian Caribbean fusion how could I have not stumbled on this before, simply amazing. Came here for a late dinner. Sampled three different appetizers and The 5 spiced glazed Salmon with vegetable fried rice and Bak Choy. It was a wonderful combination. I know the 5 spice sounds like a fire ball in your mouth but it actually was not that hot. It was very flavorful. The braised oxtails in the Korean buns were fabulous. I loved everything. I hope I have the opportunity to go back on a nicer day to dine outdoors before the weather turns to winter. Covid rules are in effect. FOOD & AMBIANCE WERE PERFECT!!! I loved how aesthetically pleasing the restaurant was. Definitely a hidden gem. We ordered oxtail sushi, shrimp bao and oxtail dumplings for appetizers and I'm still craving it! My only negative for this place was the lack of service. It took us foreverrrrr to order when the kitchen opened at 5, didn't take our order until 520ish (we were seated around 450ish) and that's when I had to wave them over (apps came around 6pm) and then there was another long wait for our main meal (about 7ish). The waiter didn't tell us right away when certain things weren't on the menu that day which upset me bc I was looking forward to it ? But the delicious food kind of made up for the wait. We were there for like almost 2.5 hours lol which is pretty crazy read more

The service was great. Waiter was very inviting and friendly. Ambiance was great. Good music, vibes and drinks. As for the food, it was mediocre. Oxtail dumplings were not great. Dumpling dough was chewy and not good. Oxtail was minimal. And it was small portions. As fit the sushi, there was very little shrimp. Wasn't very flavorful and wasn't giving fusion vibes. read more

Tried this place out after finding it on tik tok. Great location with lots of tables for sitting and a bar. Excellent decor which was spot on with the Asian-Carib theme. We had a reservation which was honored and got to choose our own table. Food was amazing, we had oxtail sushi, tempura fish cakes, oxtail with rice and peas, honey butter shrimp, a side of plantain, and shrimp boa buns. We had rum punch for our drinks and they were strong and tasty. Would definitely recommend. read more

I Came to Czen on 5/29/2021 & Anaya was our waitress. My date & I had an amazing time from beginning to end and will definitely come back! The moment we walked in we were greeted. Each table was separated by plexiglass, they had music playing which wasn't too loud but good enough to start dancing. They had all the right tunes playing. They took our temperature & was given hand sanitizer before being seated. Anaya came and introduced herself, asked us if it was our first time here, we said yes & she went through the entire menu from her personal favorites to customers favorite, which we really appreciated because my date was very indecisive lol. We weren't disappointed with Anaya's choices at all! I had the sweet Thai chili wings with red velvet waffles topped with strawberries & blueberries. My date had the rum raisin French toast with eggs, turkey bacon topped with strawberries & blackberries. As for drinks I had the rum punch. When I say that rum punch was everything! Came a few weeks ago to celebrate me and my friends birthdays. We saw this place on tiktok and we had to come and try it out. The atmosphere was so nice and the restaurant is decorated beautifully. I love the Caribbean/Asian fusion. I won't lie though, I definitely expected a bit more from the oxtail dumplings. They didn't take me to high heights and deeper depths like I wants them to lol. But I will say, that I had the best meal at the table. The berry jerk short rib was DELICIOUS! So tender and savory. I wasn't too keen on the berries with it at first but I definitely wasn't disappointed. They actually add a nice touch in my humblest opinion. Go and check it out!! read more

Overall great experience. Staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive. The food was delicious although the entrees took a little time it was worth the wait. My boyfriend and I started with the oxtail sushi roll, and it was perfect. Amazing texture, beautifully plated and tasted great. For entrees I got the Thai chili salmon, not too spicy, it had a tiny bit of a kick but it was perfect. Seasoned perfectly, not too much sauce and god it was cooked perfectly (crispy skin and perfectly tender fish). My boyfriend got the braised short rib and I had a bite of it (coated in a blueberry compote and it was a beautiful tasteful medley. The atmosphere was upbeat, good music and busy. We had a reservation and got seated quickly, it was dim but light enough that you could speak with your partner and the music wasn't too loud that you couldn't converse. We had cheesecake and carrot cake for desert and honestly the cheesecake was one of the best I've had in a very long time. Absolutely would return. A few tips for potential goers: make a reservation it's super easy and helpful, and you get seated faster as they are really busy. Parking isn't that bad, the streets are pretty long so you won't have to look super long to find parking. read more

Food - bao buns appetizer was delicious. Ambiance - good music , cute decor, clean tables sitting area and bathrooms. Service - we sat down at 9:30pm and entre didn't arrive until 11:00pm. I didn't get upset because the waiter was nice. We decided to leave and take our food to go. I noticed upon getting home that I actually asked for the added lobster but never received it. Czen is a Caribbean & Asian Fusion restaurant and you can tell from the decor as soon as you walk in. They have indoor and outdoor seating, very COVID safe, as they do temperature checks and require masks. Reservations are recommended as they can get busy with large parties. The waitstaff was accommodating and the music was 2000 r&b. We went for brunch where they offer a 90 minute bottomless option of mimosa and sangria. The vanilla infused waffle with the caramel sauce was delicious as was the Thai chili fried chicken. They vanilla waffle came with 2 fried lobster tails. My only wish is that they would De-shell the tail prior to battering and frying. Either way it was still pretty good. We'll definitely be back to try their dinner options. read more

We came here for an early dinner. The ambiance is really nice. The restaurant is a fusion of Caribbean and Asian which was an amazing but initially skeptical. I am glad we came there because the food was delicious. Kudos to our amazing waiter Julian; he was very attentive and driven. They were very conscientious with the pandemic every section had a makeshift wall panel separating customers to ensure social distance and safety. We ordered-- Appetizer: dumplings (oxtail)--- I'd recommend 100%: they were delicious; only downside is we shared it and we shouldn't have. It's enough for 1 person. Entree: I ordered the honey garlic shrimp with udon and mixed veggies. My cousin ordered the oxtails with udon and mixed veggies. I'd highly recommend both. They were both really good. The owner, staff, drinks, and food is enough of a reason to visit this place. The food was absolutely amazing and Julian the waiter was patient and accommodating. The music and ambiance set the mood while I devoured the most delicious West Indian cuisine that I've had in months. Went to this spot on a Friday evening to celebrate my parents anniversary. I wasn't sure how much They would enjoy it because we would be eating outside in the middle of winter however I was pleasantly surprised. Our server Julian was very attentive and made sure we got our temperatures checked and sanitized at the door before anything. Then the back yard had cozy little greenhouses that seated up to 5 which we were seated into. This was a lifesaver, it was comfortable enough to take off your jacket made us not even realize we were still outside. The food was exceptional. My table ordered the tempura fish cakes and the Yumi soup. I'm not a soup person but that was the perfect thing to order when your eating outdoors. Plus it had a nice creaminess to it that was like comfort food. For the entrees, we ordered the Marley Medley, the five spiced Glazed Salmon, and the Berry Jerk Short Rib. There was no complaints about the food. The ribs was nice and tender, and the french fries that was ordered had a nice cajun zest to it. The only issue is towards the end of the meal, the restaurant traffic picked up and service started to slow down a bit. But the waiter Julian was very apologetic and they kept us posted on how long our dessert will take to come out. He was the only waiter working a couple tables and provided better service than some fully staffed restaurants. I enjoyed the food and the vibes and I will definitely come back especially when we could eat indoors again. read more
