If I could give this place zero stars I would. I was so excited to try this place after seeing a viral tik tok with oxtail dumplings & oxtail sushi , but this place had the worst food & service I have ever had at a restaurant. The oxtail tasted like it was seasoned with Smuckers grape jelly ( no exaggeration ) , it wasn't seasoned or savory just very sweet. We waited at least 30 minutes for drinks and then another 45 minutes for appetizers and then another hour for entrees. This place is fairly new and I wanted to check it out; I went for my cousins birthday dinner and I despite covid-19 I like the outdoor seating. We appreciated that the owner let us sit even though they were near to closing. I had the oxtail sushi roll, which, were pretty good along with the different sauces besides the soy. Are you ready for the 411? Here we go...this was my first time visiting this restaurant while my girlfriend is a repeat offender. The ambiance was great and the music was on point. I met one of the owners and asked what the name was about, it was nice to see they were around and making sure everything was running smoothly. We got seated immediately and they wasted know time with bringing us water and seeing if we wanted any other beverages. The wait staff suggested some of his current favorites (bevs and apps) and asked questions to help us decide what we should get (do you like sweet/spicy? do you want more Caribbean or Asian more? etc...) We got: wings for our app && short ribs and jerk chicken entrees (see photos). The wings were so flavorful, they were cooked and seasoned just right. They had the perfect amount of sauce, they were too wet but they certainly weren't dry either. Our main dishes were nothing less than we expected (they even had an edible flower, we didn't eat them however). The jerk chicken was JERK CHICKEN for real! (thankfully we got those yummy sweet plantains with the entree) The veggies with the jerk were seasoned and cooked perfectly. The short ribs were falling off the few bones it did have, && the rice was moist. The presentation of everything was ELITE, not only did the food look fabulous, it taste just as amazing. Overall no complaints at all! Our food was delicious , came out quickly, and was the prefect temperature. The staff were both friendly and helpful, & made sure we enjoyed everything to the fullest. So for starters, we went to Czen for brunch. The Brunch menu is slightly different from the original menu. It was a calm and good brunch vibe. If you are looking for a brunch spot that is nice but still quiet enough for conversations, this is the spot. I recommend this place for dates or family friendly gatherings. Now lets get to the food, I really enjoyed the chicken waffles, it was a unique twist on the typical chicken and waffles. I also really enjoyed the ackee and saltflish. I was expecting a more lively vibe. Maybe I had high expectations so I was disappointed. Appetizer - oxtail dumplings 3/10. The dumpling itself was very "gummy" texture and the oxtail they used to put in it was like bottom of the pot, mashed up pieces of oxtail. We both didn't like it. Main course - lobster and beef with noodles. 3/10 The lobster tasted like fridge/frost bite and the beef was very salty and it was breaded so it was weird. The noodles were good but the overall dish was very very salty and took away from the enjoyment. Oxtail and rice and peas 7/10. Was given three giant pieces of oxtail and rice and veg. The oxtail was edible but it didn't have much spice or seasoning to it. The texture wasn't bad though. Drinks 9/10 they were strong. When I pulled up at the door I felt like all eyes on me (wipe me down) I was greeted warmly and escorted to the VIP section well that's wherever me and my girls sit- okay! Not sure if you know this but, I have a BFA and the design of the space, with its high ceilings offset by parasols in tropical hues sets a fun and flirtatious mood with the art and decor. The server was professional, he knew the menu well and was pleasant, he also had a lot of patience for three bad and bougie broads. I kicked it off with a rum punch or 3 because- why not? As an appetizer, I went for the berry jerk wings which have a slight tart yet sublime sweetness to offset the spicy earthyness that jerk is known for. You can tell that jerk was fresh because a likkle scotch bonnet hit the back of my throat and my life flashed across my eyes- it was still good! My friends had the oxtail roll and the oxtail dumpling which was a nice touch with the fusion component. Our entrees consisted of oxtail (again), short rib and I had the honey butter shrimp with baby bok choy on the side. The shrimp you can tell were fresh as I am a seafood aficionado. The sauce was a great take on scampi not doused with garlic but still layered with flavors. Both the oxtail and the short rib were braised well and had a perfect touch of brown down-I looked up and my friend had cleaned her plate! One thing that took me to chorus- my friend asked for extra oxtail gravy and they brought her not one but two. I was like take me to the king! This never happens in traditional west indian spots- NEVAH but see, the owners know that and they want to give you a cozy, professional yet sexy experience with the comforts of Caribbean cuisine and a dash of Asian influence. I had the honey glazed salmon with rice and peas, which tasted good but the rice was a little undercooked and it wasn't a hot meal. I believe it was out for a while before it was served to me. Also, the service was slow, but I saw 2 waiters working that evening so that may be the reason for the service. Our waiter was very nice and attentive. He kept coming back to our tables to make sure we were good and apologized for the delay. I would come back and give this restaurant another try. It has a lot of potential. I wish I could give the place a better rating but the service was not that great. HOWEVER the food was really tasty. I would order food to go honestly. We arrived at 6:25 for our 6:30 reservations and were seated. It took a little while for our waiter to come over. The manager came to us and asked if we had been helped yet , we said no and he asked us if we'd like water and what we wanted to drink. By this time we did not have any plate setting or water. He then came back 7 minutes later and asked us what drinks we wanted. I love the simple Brunch menu options because it allows the chef to provide A class quality food. We had Mango Habanero Wings, Thai Chili Fried chicken with Red Velvet Waffles, Ackee and Saltfish but my WINNER was the Bailey's Pancakes. I have never had such fluffy and delicious pancakes before with a beautiful medley of dragon fruit, kiwi, strawberry and raspberries. The cocktails were strong and had top shelf alcohol so you will not be disappointed. The restaurant is very organized and clean which I haven't seen at big chain restaurants in a while. I was delighted to know that the owner Prince was there and checked on our table several times to ensure the best customer service. Came here with my sister over the weekend for brunch (12PM-4PM). Reservation was for 12:30PM. Arrived on time and was seated promptly (after doing temperature check and given hand sanitizer). I went first, stating I'd like the bottomless ($35/person). I asked about how the sake sangria taste since I've never heard of it before but was intrigued. She said gave her opinion and i winded up sticking with mimosas. My sister did the same. The food was good! I had mango habanero shrimp and grits; my sister had Bailey pancakes with bacon and eggs. I tasted her pancakes & when I tell you it was amazing! The most crispy edged and fluffy pancakes I've ever had. We had to keep flagging down & asking the waitress for mimosas refills which was a tad annoying since it's supposed to be bottomless. The bill comes and my sister and I are floored because we were charged PER MIMOSA ! It was $160 in total (w/o gratuity) with a $120 charge for 12 mimosas! I was SO confused why we were being charged almost DOUBLE for drinks . When I brought it to her attention she said that I didn't ask for it to be bottomless, which is inaccurate because we literally had a conversation in which I started off by saying "I'll do bottomless" and then proceeded to ask her opinion of one of the bottomless drink options. She said she'd fix it. I saw her go towards the register in the back and talk amongst her coworkers, one of them looked at our table. I'm assuming the discussion was about our discrepancy. Revised bill was $112. We paid online via the QR code. The waitress never returned back to our table; another staff member approached us about 20 minutes later and asked if we payed the bill, which was odd. Not sure if the waitress felt uncomfortable coming to us again or that's as their way of hurrying us along (or both), but definitely weird. Scouring Yelp yesterday for a spot to have a bday dinner for my daughter and stumbled upon this gem. Called ahead and was informed to reserve via Open Table, requires card on file. The host left the front serval times that should never open. There should always be a host at the door to greet your guest. Consider purchasing Air curtains, always felt draft of the cold air due to the in and out traffic ( my table was seated by the entrance). For my party of 5, all appetizers and entrees didn't come to the table at the same time. The significance of dinning together is eating together. But enough let's get to the food. Although the wait time for food was extremely long . Everybody at the dinner table enjoyed there appetizers and entrees . I had the tempura fish cakes , which were really delicious.
