They have saved us in a pinch so many times (termites, rodents, inspections when we noticed signes of activity). They are experts with pest-control maintenance and critter control. They have specialists if you do encounter the dreaded rat appearances. In the past several months, we've been quite bothered by the noise from our attic especially in the middle of night; waking up by little animals running a race on the roof was not pleasant at all. Through referral we had Ben from D&J come in for an assessment, he came across knowledgeable, professional and clearly specified what the service included/excluded and the fee appeared reasonable. We had him started the work right away. He set traps in our crawl space and outside all the attic openings; returned 3-4 times to seal the crawl space openings as well as pick up trapped mice. Due to knee/back issues, Ben can't work on sealing the attic so we found other people who also did a good job. Ben will return when needed as we'll continue to monitor the situation. It's been pretty quiet lately, thanks to Ben's excellent work we have our rodent problem under control. read more

I've moved a few times over the last 10 years and it seems every property management group I rented from used D&J Pest Control for routine maintenance, maybe every month or two as well as service calls. This is my 4th rental in 12 years and D&J serviced all of them. They just came out and took care of a roach problem. Roaches are coming in from the water meter and under the sidewalk. They sprayed outside and inside the garage (garage floor is full of cracks too). Awesome people that treat renters with respect. read more

Came into contact w/ D&J when we moved into a bed bug infested apartment. Our tech Ben, was always helpful and honest. Bug problems suck no matter what; it's great to have someone who will give you the DL in a friendly manner. The problem was never really taken care of, but I blame that on inept property managers who refused to approve appropriate remedies in a effort to cut costs. When it came down to it and I had to take the property group to court, D&J saved my butt! They provided me with spraying records from our time living there and even before we moved in so I could prove there was a prior problem. It is rare to come across this type of honesty. Even though it may have affected their contract with the property group, they showed great integrity by placing the truth above profit. This is a family business and if I ever had a bug problem again (and please pray that I never do!), I would call D&J. read more

This morning we awoke to find rat turds on our kitchen table...Can you say gross much? We called D & J on a whim (they were local to Santa Clara Co and have been in the industry since the late 1950s so why not them) and Ben, the CEO, was out to our place within the hour. He was very thorough, took the time to walk the entire house, address the needs, set traps and give us an estimate for keeping these pests out. We feel very sure with D & J but have yet to catch anything (I guess it has only been a few hours!). Will update later on but as of now 5 star service in response and quality of service. read more

We called D&J because my wife got bit during the night and we wanted to have an inspection to see if we had bedbugs. They were one of the few places that would actually do an inspection, and they showed up on time and did a very thorough job. They said we did not have bedbugs and suspected mites, based on a sample we had preserved. Since we went with the treatment for mites they did not charge us for the inspection which we really appreciated. They did the treatment on time for a very reasonable price. We chose D&J because they were highly rated in Checkbook.: a small local business with an excellent reputation. Dr. Ray examined the cockroach in our trap and thoughtfully proclaimed it exactly as he suspected: the dreaded Blatta Orientalis! As he carefully examined all the nooks and crannies in our home he explained that these 1 inch long glossy dark brown and black bugs loved to migrate in the Summer. He pointed out that the males have long delicate wings that enable it to take short flights; alas, the poor female has only wing stubs behind her head meaning that she is earthbound. According to Dr. Ray, our cockroaches outdoorsy type insects: they prefer living under mulch in landscaping or dwelling in local storm drains. They can range up to 500 feet from their nests to forage for garbage and decay. I asked if our worm farm: which had been located in the garage until we spotted the roaches had lured them into our garage. He looked thoughtful and then said he did not think so; they were probably coming in after the water. Dr. Ray lay down a perimeter of death: he carefully and methodically targeted any and all areas that the cockroaches may find attractive. He warned us that since they have been evicted we may see a few more in traps for a couple of weeks - but then it all should settle down. He then offered us the bill: which was exactly what we had been quoted, and gave us his card if there should be any issues. Jenny the receptionist is super nice and helpful. That's why I'm giving 3 stars and not 2. I told her that I have chemical sensitivities and she was patient with me and described the process. So we set up an appointment and decided to only spray the outside of my place. The technician (Rob I think) who came to spray was quite rude. I wanted to talk to him about spraying my garage because I'm in there a lot. When he knocked on my door, I asked him to give me one minute to change. I took 1 minute and opened my door to talk to him and he had already started spraying right outside my open door! When I asked him to please wait and come to my garage because I had a couple of questions, he sprayed all the way up to my garage door. So literally I was one step away from the spray. AND I'M CHEMICALLY sensitive which I had already told them. I am upset he wasn't told. But more importantly he did not give a crap. Even for someone not sensitive why would he spray with the front door open? Why would he spray with the garage door open, while the client was standing there? I already have a headache. I really hope it doesn't get worse. I called to talk to Jenny to give feed back and as usual she was professional about it. But I'm not sure that will do any good. I would recommend having your techs be more customer friendly. Was it me asking him to wait one minute while I put my shirt on that pissed him off? read more

D and J came on to my house the very next day after I call for ant problem not to mention the spiders. They were very professional and took the time to explain to me what was needed to help prevent the pest from coming back but assured me that they would come back out if needed because they stand behind their work which was also priced very competitively. I want to preface this by saying that these guys are unscrupulous. The owner will say anything to discredit me of course. In another or prior review the public was lead to believe I had a hopelessly infested mattress. Possibly but that was 9 months ago and it was thrown out. The owner also deliberately lies to his potential clients here that I was uncooperative and failed to prep properly. That is a STRAIGHT OUT LIE. I wanted the "treatment" to succeed and prepared for hours a full day in advance, pulling things away from the wall, bagging all clothes, vacuuming and leaving with my laundry to wash everything on high heat during the "treatment". I knew he'd make up stuff about me which is why I say they're unscrupulous. He'll also say I have clutter and my stuff is irredeemably infested and that I'm not his client and he doesn't have to be accountable to me. But when his business is so terrible I say yes he does. The field agent he sent out is unprofessional, ineffective and manipulative. Like the other gal stated, they do the bare minimum, make you do things they should be doing, etc. I have better things to do than run these guys down but I need to make clear my really terrible experiences with these people. My first note is that after this most recent "treatment" I was left with a colossal infestation much worse than before they came. Many adult bedbugs full of my blood. My guess is the field agent was retaliating for the prior visit when I was so angry I reported him to the owner with a long voicemail. The chair and the mattress were thrown out just so I couldn't be blamed for their mistakes and misdeeds. I notice: He does a couple of things to appear competent like removing a wall plate (ONE out of 4), taking a portrait down (ONE out of 3), and apparently that's all when I return. The most basic of things that are supposed to be attended to like treating the dresser drawers, are NOT DONE. This is a fact. I don't believe anything at all was treated in this room, I was the primary reason for the follow up and left feeling decidedly victimized. There was no odor at all after the four hour stay away. Other than a flipped chair the room appeared identical to how it was left, including the bed frame and dresser drawers. They declare things hopelessly infested and demand I throw them out. TWICE NOW and I've had to replace my bed and office chair myself. My bed frame remained and that was clearly untouched/untreated as I had a massive resurgence of infestation (after a week) and had to go AGAIN to the Laundromat and wash everything including my new pillows. I mistakenly thought my room would be bug free so I bought some. There is no hope of these guys taking responsibility for their mistakes and shoddy "work" so I have no personal interest in posting this highly negative review other than to caution people to find another business. You may notice besides the one star complaints there are some that are suspiciously exaggerated for a high rating. Does that make sense? I don't think I need to say what's going on there. Nothing in-between only the extremes. So my final word is: Even if they did offer to do a free follow up I would most decidedly DECLINE. They're happy to take your money though. Their obviously fake favorable reviews may convince some of you to use their services but you'll soon see what will happen. I don't agree that I have no say in this and that only "property mgmt." or the landlord has a right to report anything. I'm feeling less helpless now that I at least had the opportunity to share my experiences with other potential customers. My landlord and I are currently in the process of renegotiation as City of San Jose Code enforcement is forcing a competent follow up. A different pest control agent will of course be used. So, unless you want to be put in the position of subsequently hiring an outfit who will actually do some work after DJ leaves you high and dry with a massive re-infestation, I would say keep looking for sure. read more

We found bedbugs in the house we moved into. Called D&J, found here in yelp. In the house, mostly hardwood except for the staircase (and no furniture), D & J still charged over $600, with a timely appointment, but told me the exterminator would drill into walls, spray inside outlets, take care of silverfish in the house and cockroaches 20 yards outside the house and ants. Two weeks later, we still have silverfish, cockroaches, ants and still have doubts about bedbugs as we still feel new bites. For the follow up, Jenny said it would cost around $300, and told me to take off all the outlet covers myself, so requiring me to do extra work, and I have serious doubts, thinking they never drilled the walls to spray inside as claimed (no evidence of it). Plus no guarantee on bedbugs. I wouldn't use them again. Promise more than delivered, expensive with dubious results. read more

Amazing! I am a first time apartment renter and my building is being treated for bedbugs- EW!!! Luckily my apartment seems to be clean, but I had some questions. Ben answered and was very helpful and understanding of my concerns. He answered all the questions I had and assured me that since I haven't been bitten, it seems that I am in the clear and its more of a precautionary treatment at this point! He explained to me that odds are no chemicals would even be put onto my bed unless they found an infestation which, again, seemed unlikely and that even if they did treat the bed it is approved to be slept on again after. Ben also said that vacuuming the bed out would be a good idea and wiping down surfaces wasn't really necessary because its mostly a baseboard treatment. He put me at ease real quickly. read more

They came within a couple hours and were really thorough about investigating our roach problem and treating completely, with good advice about how to avoid bringing these bugs into the new place. They even uncovered another pest problem we had been completely unaware of, saving us from moving an infested piece of furniture, which we quickly relegated to the curb for our city's large item pickup. Do not use this pest control company one of their employees was spraying for bedbugs on 8-10-16 so we were instructed to leave the house for a few hours when we returned home we noticed a few prescription pills missing we did not accuse him at first. The very next day Ray returned explaining that he forgot to spray the closet in the bedroom that he would need a few minutes to finish spraying as soon as he left the second time more of the same prescription pills were missing 25 in total I should have filed a police report but I chose not to.today 8-14-16 Ray returned explaining he Lost some sort of tool and he was hoping to find it in the same room the prescription pills vanished from I let him know I knew it was him that stole the Pills and of course he denied everything I find that extremely hard to believe I really regret not filing a police report please do not use this company read more

This company recently came to my house to take care of a bad ant problem. The serviceman treated inside and outside for a reasonable price, and informed me that there was a 60 day guarentee in case I still had ants. Its been over a month now and the ants have not come back. If I have any further pest problems i would gladly use D & J in the future. read more
