If you're hungry, and don't have a lot of money, D & L's Cajun kitchen it's just a place for you. It is a sort of a combination of soul food and Cajun cooking. This restaurant with plenty of dining seating is bound to have something that you will find appealing and filling. They have a small steam table with the usual suspects of a good soul, food restaurant - oxtails, turkey wings, collard greens, rice, gravy, mac & cheese, etc. Then at a separate location they will fry you fish, shrimp, boudin or whatever you want. As an added bonus they offer on Friday and Saturdays pork Cracklin as good as what I get in Louisiana. So again if you looking to fill up without emptying your pockets, this is a very good choice.

Had to dip to the "hood" and try out this new spot (new to us).. Yall already know the best food be in the hood..and this place lives up to the standard. Good flavor decent price and nice portions.. Made to order platters and Little Steam Table dinners.. nice variety of options from fried fish and shrimp to ox tails...will definitely be back.

This was second time visiting D&L's. The first time I had oxtails, so I decided to try something different -- the Turkey wing plate with rice, collard greens, green beans, & a side of yams. The yams were so-so, green beans were a Go, and the collards were flavorful...hot sauce made them pop. Now idk if they have to ration out small scoops of the Turkey wing gravy, but I wanted & needed a bit more. I live kinda far, so by the time I got home my rice soaked up all that wing gravy & my wing was a bit parched. I still ate it though lol. Overall, I'd go back... but I'll just get the oxtails again. Staff was pleasant & reminds me of mom & pop shops back home. The other guests in line reminded me of like community aunties & uncles from back home too. It was nice visit a place not so trendy with a comfortable vibe.

The young lady was nice and helpful. The food has great texture, seasoning and temperature. This flavorful food was so spot on, it had my taste buds dancing. D & L's Cajun Kitchen, is a little hidden gem in NE Houston, and my new soul food go to spot. I ordered the oxtails over rice, green beans, and broccoli casserole. It was great!

The service is absolutely fantastic! Everybody is friendly, helpful and patient with us new comers. You can taste every thing before you make a final decision and everything is home cooked. The price may seem high but the portions are more then generous. One plate feed both me and partner and we both were full. I will be returning and recommending.

Definitely a great little soul food spot! All the food was delicious. I got the oxtail with yams and greens beans on the side. My boyfriend got the fried pork chops with yams and greens. All the plates come with rice and cornbread. We couldn't resist the sweets, so made sure to grab the carrot cake too! I'm not much of a carrot cake eater, my boyfriend is, but let me tell you...it was so good! Employees were friendly and helpful! For sure check out this place out if you're feeling some soul food!

This was awesome! It is definitely soul food to the core. Lots of love and flavor went into the preparation of this meal! Enjoyed our lunch, large portions, reasonable price! Very nice employees!

I don't get what is so Cajun about this place. I didn't smell anything "Cajun," and , I didn't see anything "Cajun." On the contrary, their menu lends itself more to a "country cooking" scheme versus a Cajun persona. I would even accept soul food as this place's namesake, but Cajun? Nah. With a steam table of items such as smothered chicken, pork chops, oxtails, and turkey wings, wouldn't you call that soul food versus Cajun? Maybe I'm being a little picky with the name of the restaurant, but names matter and should tell people what to expect. I digress on that aspect of this review. Since I am trying to eat better, the globs of cornbread dressing, rice, and overcooked vegetables were not appealing for purchase. As far as price...my cousin spent nearly $30 bucks on oxtails with two sides, adding a pork chop, another al la carte entrée , and a drink to his take out order. This may be the typical cost for such hood delicacies, but that's grocery money to me!!! Once more, this place has a Groupon ad that I remembered seeing a couple of weeks back, but when I went into D&Ls with my cousin, I saw a sign that stated that they DO NOT accept Groupons two days out the week (I believe it was Tuesday and Wednesday). In any case, that would be tragic for someone to come in with a Groupon and might be turned away from using it because they didn't know about this restriction. Bad move and poor managerial execution to build clientele. I will give them props sincere staff and for having a pretty clean and organized exterior, but the plain white walls are boring! Couldn't dine in here regardless of the tv in the corner to stare at while stuffing my face. Can you imagine how many stars I'd give this place if I had actually eaten the food?! Based on what others have stated in their reviews, a one!

Time to Appetizers: 20 Minutes Time to Crawfish: 25 Minutes It's a solid branch from the main location in Bellaire, but they're missing some things. For example, the Bellaire location has the new Viet-Cajun flavor of sauce that hasn't debuted here yet (though you can DIY a mix). (Review is for July 2026 if they've updated since then) We got here at 6:05PM and got seated with no issues. Ordered the following: Combo #1 with extra corn and potatoes (3.5/5): Crawfish isn't in season, so don't be surprised at my low rating. It's still great and flavorful all around. Garlic Noodles with Shrimp (4/5): Still incredibly rich and buttery and garlicy and great for a palate cleanser. I'd skip the shrimp; you get eight pieces for $10 extra and that's not really worth it. Crawfish Beignets (4.5/5): Still a fantastic appetizer. Comes out hot, crispy, buttery, and is a really indulgence. 1 lb. Little Neck Clams (4.5/5): I liked these more than the crawfish tbh. It really does depend on what's in season. Very easy to eat, very flavorful. Service was generally good but our server seemed slammed; it took a long time to get water refills and to place extra orders (we got a second order of beignets to-go). Market price for crawfish is high and they're not in season, so don't be afraid to ask. The Combo #1 in July 2026 was $22. Overall, I'll probably be back during crawfish season especially because it's more convenient for me than the Bellaire location, but the Bellaire location has it beat for general atmosphere after the remodeling and much better options for mixes there.
