After a 3 year self imposed ban on D & S, I suggested it for dinner tonight. I called to place an order. Had to make a few attempts so I'm assuming that they were giving the customers who are there at the counter priority, as they should be. Try again and call was answered by a very polite and attentive young lady. Placed order for a #15 and a #12 all-the-way and add mayo. Collected order 20 minutes later. Subs were really good. Price seems a little high but maybe I'm comparing it to Subway prices. $23 for 2 large subs. I'm happy to report that D & S seems to be trending in an upward direction and hope that they can continue to do so. read more

Very disappointing. Used to eat here a lot as a kid but recently the prices and services have been terrible. They charge for mayo, mustard and ketchup. You can no longer buy just a whole hot sub you have to buy 2 TWO halves. The managment is terrible and rude. Definitely not worth eating there again. So many better options in town. read more

Good subs, but when you factor in their high prices and bad customer service they aren't that good. I thought it was a little ridiculous to charge considerably more for wheat bread as opposed to white bread, and to add pickles to a sub, now they are also charging for extra vinegar! The food here is almost always great! However, the service, prices & wait time needs a tremendous amount of improvement! Being that over half of their business comes from take-out orders, one would expect the "order taker" to be polite and helpful. Not the case here! Every time I have ever ordered food from D & S over the phone, the cashier has been very rude and unknowledgeable. That being said, blame should probably not be placed upon the employee but on the management/owner. Training is important and obviously they do not implement much of this at their establishment . I will say the food is always great. I especially love the Reuben! That is the only reason I continue to dine there. Just don't expect to leave without paying about $15 per meal and waiting at least 20-45 minutes on your food when you arrive! read more

I used to love this place but recently it hasn't been too good..... The service was the worst part, they even have signs that joke about how they don't want to please you. Sorry but when I'm waiting patently for my food, I don't get a drink which I asked for and once I get my sub it was messily thrown together and was 50% bread, I don't considered those signs jokes. D&S is probably my favorite place to get a sandwich in Hartsville. The subs are always delicious, no complaints there. However, I do think they could improve their customer service. 15 minutes is a while to wait for a sandwich and that wait can be made less annoying by a simple smile and thank you from the cashier. read more

I have lived here for 4 years. I have eaten from here 3 times, thinking it wouldn't be the same experience each time. I will NEVER return! Absolutely the worst attitudes ever. The food isn't bad. But it's a sandwich, so, hoping they get your order right, it's still nothing special. Their prices are extremely over priced for what you get. We did a large call in order from work one time and they insisted that we had 1 person for every 3 orders to come pick it up. It was no problem ringing up each item separately but they would only take the money from 1 person for up to 3 orders. Then we had to physically put the money in someone else's hands so they would continue ringing us up. They even have a derogatory sign towards the customers at the cashier area. D&S makes NYC seem cheap. $9-$13 for a 12" sub. Nothing fancy about them, either. You're much better off going to Subway. I really don't know why I go here. That said, if you are stuck going there, the cheese steak isn't half bad. Way way overpriced, but decent. read more

My family and I enjoy the food here. It is one of our favorites. However, it gets a ONE star rating because tonight when I called to place a "take out" order I was put on hold for TEN MINUTES and then HUNG UP ON!!! No one came on the phone to say "sorry for holding" or "it will only be a few more minutes." They did not check to see if I was still on the line before they just hung up. I heard them service SIX people while I was on hold. What made it even worse was I heard them GREET some of them as if they just walked in the door. After being hung up on I called back for the chance to politely tell them about their phone etiquette but before I could say a word they answered and put me on hold again. After waiting a few minutes I felt it was best to hang up as they were clearly in no hurry to take my order. My family and I ate at CookOut instead where the food was cheaper, taste better, and the service was top notch! read more

So After thanksgiving I am making a special order for 2 NO.15 subs to go when we come through hartsville. But even so the detour will be worth it!!!!! I live from hartsville about 2 hour drive....
