I brought in a formal dress that I thought was too short and needed to be made into cocktail length. He saw me on short notice and fit me into a busy day. Once I got there and tried on the dress, he convinced me the dress was beautiful just as it was, even forgoing a paycheck for what he thought looked best. That's someone who cares more about making his clients look good than making money. Very hard to find in nyc. I took a new pair of trousers into Mark's shop yesterday (around 2 PM) to get them hemmed and a button replaced. He was incredibly friendly and broke down exactly what he was going to do, and also shared considerations that I didn't think about (such as saving some of the legging material in case they shrink from the wash). He contacted me today around 1 PM and asked that I come in to get them; the results were beautiful and I've never been happier with tailoring before. I had some free time and I decided to get coffee and window shop around Bleecker st. I took a peek inside and found casual and yet sophisticated clothing. From the buttons to the stitching, it's just a well made product. Over the years, I have purchased a beautiful fall jacket, a functional cardigan sweater and the most comfortable flannels. Also, I love their sweatshirts! Not being too baggy, I like that I can layer the look without being too bulky. I signed up for their email notifications, they have the best sales! Both online as well as in the store, typically it's a 35% discount. What brings me to Bleecker st, I ordered Japanese Selvedge Jeans at an incredible price. They came to my home, I tried them on and loved the feel of the material. The back pockets looked off, it wasn't the right fit. I called the customer service number and was told either I can send the jeans back with a prepaid shipping label or simply return them to the store. Easy Peasy! The Grayers founder has an interesting background. He worked at Ralph Lauren for over 10 years and decided to make his own line inspired by European and Japanese vintage clothing. The first shop we came across was an ancillary store for Daniels, a narrow shop with a ton of outerwear. Victor was wonderful. Helpful, friendly -- I really hoped to buy something from him. Unfortunately, he didn't stock anything that I liked. Eager to help, Victor had a colleague walk me down the street to their showroom. What a waste of time. The fellow who "helped" me was blase, and not particularly knowledgeable. They also didn't have many styles. I found one coat I would have considered if they had my size. Supposedly another employee was getting it from a storeroom. We waited. And waited. The guy "helping" me walked off, oblivious and indifferent. So we left. And I bought a beautiful jacket a few doors down!

By chance I was walking by this place yesterday...I was very glad that I stopped in. Last week I…read morehad purchased a nice, but rather ordinary black, down bomber jacket at Nordstrom that had a 'faux' fur collar. It struck me as I saw all these NYers walking around with a similar jacket (I'm from LA), that mine would be more striking with a 'real' fur collar. I start talking with Peter (the owner) and told him what I wanted. While listening to me, I could tell he was ten steps ahead of me as he'd done this many times before. He showed me a few fur choices and then I decided upon a piece of black fox fur that he had somewhere in the back of his rather large store. We unzipped and unsnapped my cheap 'fun fur' collar and then I left it with him. He called me today...less than 24 hours later...and told me it was ready for pickup. He knew that I was leaving tomorrow for LA and did a 'rush' job as a favor. Of course I would have been fine with him mailing to me...but this way I got to use it while on this trip (and it was cold). When I picked it up, I was amazed...it was beyond perfect, just what I wanted and more. It was a bit bigger, fuller, more substantial that I had anticipated. The revamped collar gave my mundane jacket an upscale look along with a nice new 'wow' factor. I would highly recommend this place. The staff (including his lovely wife June at the front desk) were beyond friendly and helpful. I didn't inquire much about what else they did, but it looks like they do all sorts of cleaning, repairs, sell new coats, hats, etc...anything related to fur. I realize that fur is not everyone's 'cup of tea'...and I respect that...but if you do want a great fur experience, please go see Peter at Dimitrios Furs...on 30th near 7th Avenue.
