D'Arcy is absolutely phenomenal. She is one of the nicest people that I know. I am very selective about my stylist and who does my hair. D'Arcy has done my hair twice now and I will continue to return to her for my services. She is well versed in hair coloring as well as styling. When I asked her what to do with my hair, she presented me with options that were reasonable and realistic. She gave me a great color and cut both times that I went to her. She is very customer friendly and I enjoy chatting with her. She is very helpful and in knowledgeable as a stylist/colorist. She has several years of experience. The salon is a very open, relaxed environment where you can just feel free to be yourself as a person without anyone caring. Individuality is encouraged at D'Arcy's Salon! She recently did a cut/color for me for the second time and it is phenomenal. She did an ombre burgundy look with a brown base color. It turned out to be phenomenal! This review is long overdue! I've been getting balayage and haircuts from D'Arcy for the past year, and my hair has never looked better. After years of wearing my hair natural, I was excited to find a colorist who could help me a achieve a low-maintenance look that helps me feel put together and a bit polished on a daily basis. I started with a video consultation and was impressed at how D'Arcy was able to listen to all my descriptions of what I was looking for and make recommendations that really took my desires into account. Her technique is absolutely professional, and I always appreciate how she looks after the health of my hair, desired maintainence schedule, and the subtle look I'm after. Are you looking for a skilled, non pretentious, down to earth and realistic stylist? Try D'Arcy! I have been seeing her regularly for 4 years. I mainly go to her for balyage (hand painted highlights). My hair looks so natural that people are surprised that I get it colored. I have gone in several times with a style in mind (inverted bob R.I.P. 2009) and D'Arcy rocks it. Other times I have gone in and said "Do what you think looks good". I always leave the salon with an updated and realistic look. Price wise her services are affordable compared to other salons even with the quality of the high end Italian color line. The hair care products used are sulfate free, etc. D'Arcy is extremely professional, punctual, and has never cancelled or rescheduled my appointments. In fact, I have never waited for her. I made an appointment for two reasons. 1., Imy regular hair salon is booked out months in advance. 2. My trans daughter was looking for a hairdresser who would be able to do a beautiful feminine hair cut/style. First off, D'Arcy was very nice. Her hair studio was clean and cute and only had her one chair. No rent-out stations. I felt very safe, COVID-wise, being there. But then...she didn't really listen to what I wanted in my haircut. She gave me too short layers in the back of my long hair. And she cut my hair DRY. She then proceeded to do my color correction. She should have done my color and then washed it and cut it WET. I have naturally ash blonde hair that has a lot of silver now. My previous color had faded to an unflattering gold/yellow, it had been over 6 months Since coloring, and I needed that addressed. After washing (pretty sure all the shampoo wasn't washed out, as my hair felt "sticky". ), she proceeded to "diffuse" my locks. And ignore my natural part completely. This apparently meant scrunching my hair in her hand while she used a blow dryer. I am guessing that she didn't account for time, as she left my hair partially damp and then tried to use a curling iron. when she was "finished", she had me take a look in the mirror. OMG! Picture a frizzled overused dried out corn-husk broom with an unnatural middle part. Now picture it with yellow undertones and brown in the back. When she asked what I thought, I told her that it still looked a bit yellow and what was with the brown tone. She immediately started coming up with excuses, that blond HAD to be yellow or it would be grey, etc...etc... my hair looked better BEFORE she touched my head! I don't think my hair had looked that bad since high school, when a bleach job turned my hair pumpkin orange! You know that it's bad when you are embarrassed to leave the salon and walk out into the public. You Know it's bad when you immediately swipe it into an updo with a large clip after leaving. For this monstrosity, I paid WAAY too much $. I was so disappointed in the lack of her professionalism and clearly her experience. Perhaps she is good at funky colors? I just know that I can still partially see my grown out root line and that I am very unhappy with this experience. The "silver lining" in all of this? Well, I am just REALLY REALLY happy that I went to her before sending in my trans daughter for her first hair salon visit! UGH read more

I don't speak hair. It's been well-documented in my reviews that I usually let stylists play mannequin with my head, as long as the final result is something semi-manageable for me to deal with at home. This also means that I'm usually not inclined to spend a lot of money on haircuts, and so when my last stylist raised his prices and failed to deliver the same "wow" factor I had originally paid for, I decided it was time to move on. Enter D'Arcy and Emerson Salon. A few friends had recommended me to her previously, but for one reason or another, I wasn't able to make it to her chair. This went on for over a year and a half. (I also moved to Los Angeles. That might have something to do with it.) To make an already lengthy story short, I was foolish for waiting so long. I finally booked an appointment with her during my last visit to Seattle and was very pleased with her work! She made a point of talking to me first about my hair and what I wanted done, despite my lack of understanding of the hair world (it sits on my head? it grows occasionally?). I finally mentioned that I was curious about how a graduated cut would look and 30 minutes later, I found out and it looked really cute! She even inspired me to think about coloring my hair someday -- I know that color and balayage are her best talents, but she still can work her way around my brunette, wavy, clueless head, and for that I am grateful. Bonus points: she charges a little less for short-haired folk, and if you don't need your hair shampooed, she'll knock an extra ten bucks off! I really felt like I was getting a bargain for her abilities. I can't guarantee she won't scream (if only internally) at the state of neglect my hair is in the next time I see her, but I do look forward to sitting in her chair again. So if you're like me and debating whether or not to book her, just do yourself a favor and do it. She's fabulous and she can make your head look that way too! read more

I've gotten probably half a dozen haircuts from Darcy, and she always does a great job. I'm real picky about how my hair looks, and I have thick hair which can be a challenge. Also, in Capitol Hill a lot of salons charge one price for a "men's cut" and a few dollars more for a "women's cut." Since I'm a man, who is consistently mistaken for a woman, I very much appreciate that Darcy charges based on the haircut itself, not the gender of the client. read more

I've got a mane of curly Irish hair, and it can be difficult finding a stylist who can cut my hair well. I had several friends recommend D'Arcy to me, so I decided to give her a try. I was happy to see that she specialized in curly hair, and I was not disappointed. She helped me avoid the dreaded poofy triangle hair that happens so often with my hair, and I ended up with healthy, vibrant, bouncy curls. D'Arcy did such a terrific job during my haircut that I decided to go further and trust her with changing the color of my hair. It had been over a decade since I had attempted to dye my hair, and I was understandable nervous. D'Arcy and I looked at colors together, discussed which shades of red would look best with my skin tone and she set about working her magic. I now rock auburn red curls instead of my plain Jane brown, and my hair has never looked better. A couple of acquaintances suggested going to D'Arcy. I asked, "does she do curly hair?" They said yes. "But does she know HOW to do curly hair?" They laughed and said yes. During my consultation with her, I knew I was going to receive a wonderful haircut because she just seemed to talk about curly hair in a way I don't think I've heard before (she got it). I was right, I think it was the best haircut I've ever had! I feel like I actually look like I'm in style for once. I don't think my hair has ever been this well layered, healthy, or soft! It took a little bit for all of the curls on the top layer to loosen up after being so long. They dropped significantly after a couple days but then blended perfectly after about 3 weeks, I was seriously impressed with her calculations. It's less frizzy and much, much softer thanks to the products she suggested: Alterna's Bamboo shampoo and conditioner, and Moroccanoil. I don't hand out five stars willy-nilly. Moving to Seattle from SF last March left me more than depressed-I was clueless as to how to find a superlative colorist-never an easy task. Well I lucked out and fate plus google blessed me with divine D'Arcy. It's rare to find a stylist that excels at coloring AND cutting, but D'Arcy is that rare stylist. On top of that, her services are incredibly affordable. She has years of experience with cutting and coloring and it shows every time I come into see her. She always listens to what I want and never over trims my hair. D'Arcy is my fave! I've been going to her for cuts and color (primarily balayage) for a little over a year now, and she never disappoints me. In the past year I've gone from long to short, brown to blonde, blonde to blonder, blonde to brown, and short to long. All along the way I've been able to trust D'Arcy to work miracles without breaking the bank, and she hasn't let me down yet. Not only is she great at her job, but she's a riot, too! I have been meaning to write this review for a long time. I have been using D'Arcy for a couple years now for balayage and cut. I actually left my stylist of 10+ years because she did not do balayage and I wanted to make the switch. This was a big step for me because I had been seeing my last stylist for ever! My first meeting with D'Arcy was great. She listened and advised me so we could achieve the look I was going for (a natural ombre). I was so happy with the results. Very natural and much less maintenance. I can go 3 months without getting my roots done now that I don't have that foil line. I highly recommend Emerson Salon and D'Arcy. D'Arcy consistently gave me the best haircuts of my life. I think she cut my hair 3x during the year I lived in Seattle, and every time I walked out so impressed. I have extremely fine, wavy, blonde hair - the kind that can be simultaneously limp AND frizzy. Every time I came in she explained what she was doing and why it would work for my hair type, and she knew how to tailor the cut to my face, styling habits, etc. My super fine hair finally had some volume! Serious magic. After moving to Boston last summer (side bar: have had my hair done once here, and it such a let down to get a mediocre cut and color, which I also paid a lot more for, after my time with D'Arcy), but I just found out I'll be returning to Victoria later this year, and I am seriously considering taking four hours of ferries just to get D'Arcy to do my hair again. I loved my whole experience with D'Arcy. She is set up in a clean, beautiful and classy little salon, and instantly made me feel welcome as I entered. During our consultation, she "got" instantly what I was asking for. I felt right away that I could trust her with my tresses. And then came the shampooing, and the *best* scalp massage I have ever experienced. She trimmed me up and shaped my long, layered locks to frame my face in a really lovely and feminine way that would work even with my low-maintenance approach to hair-care. She had some advice about the fly-aways around my face; turns out they need a little moisturizing at night after I wash my face with soap, which was drying the hair around the edges of my face. Since we had a little extra time before my fiance's appointment, she also gave me some advice for doing my hair in a natural way for my upcoming wedding, and tried it out on me as she blow-dried my hair. I felt and looked fabulous afterward, and my hair was gorgeous and healthy for my wedding. My fiance also loved his scalp massage. She finished with him in about 15 minutes, and he looked great! His shoulder-length tresses were cleaned up and trimmed, the little whispies at the back of his neck were shaved off, and he looked sleek and handsome. Nice going, D'Arcy!
