As time passed and leadership and owners became more and more involved, it seemed to really change the dynamics. The staff turnover was very high with these dynamics. Students were lucky to have the same teacher for an entire school year. The owners were more concerned with the ritual cleaning (done by the teachers) rather than engaging the students in creative art projects, as these may cause a mess. Teachers would often have to stick kids in front of the TV in order to complete their extensive list of chores so they could leave without being reprimanded or have overtime. The teachers were remarkable considering they were doing all the housekeeping too. Even as the owners continued to raise tuition year after year, the service continued to go downhill with more and more frivolous demands on the teachers. They never hired a cleaning service to help ease the burden on teachers and allow them to prepare children for elementary school. The teachers really do a great job considering what they have to put up with on a daily basis from the director and owners. They can only endure it for so long, which is why the turnover is so high. With more insight and direction from the franchise and stronger leadership, this program could thrive again. Just need to refocus on the children and working on teacher retention.

Highlander is a co-ed overnight summer camp in the hills of Mills River,NC devoted to children ages 5-16. Campers come back year after year, and all year long you hear stories of children who wish they were still at camp. The camp used to be owned by a school in south Florida, but now is owned by a wonderful family named the Alexanders. At camp you can go swimming, hiking, there's a ropes course, horse back riding, climbing wall, arts n crafts, pottery, rec room, campfires, swing dancing, talent shows, concerts, cookouts, basketball, soccer, drama classes, camping and so much more. Wednesdays and Saturdays campers get to choose their schedules, all other days campers remain in cabin groups where they meet friends and bond with others. Off camp trips include camping in the Pisgah National Forest, Sliding Rock, Coon Tree (a big rock you jump off of into the water), trips to Lake Keowee in South Carolina, white water rafting down the Nantahala River, theme parks, hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains, farmers markets, horse shows, and so much more. Schedules change every year and new events happen. There's a small lake on the property but they travel to larger lakes for water skiing and wakeboarding. The camp runs in 2 week, 3 week, 6 week and 9 week sessions. You can stay as little as 2 and as long as 6. Most of the staff members return each year and are dedicated to children on the mountain. The camp was even featured on the Disney Channel show Bug Juice which was filmed in the summer of 1999 and aired on tv in 2000.

Visiting…read moreNorth Carolina on a long weekend from Washington, D.C. in December, my family of three went for their 5th annual Winter Wonder Walk. Getting combo tickets, we started with the treetop glow trail on their high ropes course. Next, we visited a market of kid makers. Afterwards, we walked their story-walk trail about Jack Frost. The trail includes stops and actors. My eight-year-old daughter loved it! What a fun seasonal experience!

The obstacle course was fun and challenging, we were entertained the full 2 hours and the kids loved the independent nature of it. There were plenty of courses and we didn't even finish them all so it will keep you busy the full 2 hours. I was actually scared a couple of times and was shocked how brave my kids were. The set up is extremely safe thanks to a unique two smart buckle feature (it has a safety feature where you cannot unbuckle one of the buckles until the other buckle is on the wire, so you always have one buckle safely attached to catch you. Great because even distracted kids can't screw it up. Definitely worth it.

Walking in felt like stepping into a place that has completely given up on basic standards. The shelves were disorganized, sizes were missing everywhere, and the overall store looked like nobody bothered to maintain it. Trying to get help was just as frustrating. Employees were either nowhere to be found or seemed totally uninterested in doing their job. When you finally get someone's attention, the help you get is minimal at best. It's honestly shocking how little effort seems to go into customer service here. The prices are also way too high for what you get. A lot of the products look average at best, yet they're priced like top-tier gear. For a store that's supposed to specialize in sports equipment, the experience feels lazy and poorly managed. There are far better places to shop where the store is organized, the staff actually help you, and the prices make sense. After this visit, I have zero reason to ever come back.
