The food is not worth the wait!! Customer service is awful! We arrived at the establishment a little after 12:00 p.m. We informed the waitress we were on our lunch hour and asked if our order could be expedited. There were only two other people in the restaurant when we arrived. We ordered tostones, and two jibarito sandwiches, plus one additional sandwich to go. Not a very complicated order. The couple that was seated when we arrived received their meal shortly after we were seated. So, it stands to reason that no other guests were waiting to be served. It was understood that it was noon, typically a busy time for restaurants. We saw only 1 carry out order picked up during the time we were there, just in case we were thinking that there were a great number of orders for carry out, which would account for the delay in getting our food. If that was the case, we were never informed. It took 57 minutes for our order to arrive and it was missing one sandwich. We then had to quickly ask the server to wrap the order to go. It took an additional 10 minutes for the order to be completed.. and the waitress handed me the bag so I could wrap up my own order. There was no apology, no I'm sorry for the delay, not a word. I love the food, but will think twice before ever visiting D'Cuba again, additionally, I will advise others to steer clear as well! read more

If I could give them NO stars, I would. I call before and they tell me that they don't take reservations but tables are available for a party of 5. I show up no tables are available they say it's a 30 min wait. While waiting they seat a party of 15 that was waiting. After about 15 minutes of waiting they tell me that there is a party of 8 waiting before me, but they left and will be back later. Oh no! How unprofessional can they get!! They should have told me when I first came in that there was a party of 15 & a party of 8 waiting before me, not after waiting 15 minutes! I will NEVER go back!! Fantastic. I loved the music and the setting (waitress was wearing a Guayabera and very friendly, lighting was perfect). Yesssss!!!! Just found my new Cuban spot. Absolutely amazing and I ordered delivery. Ropa vieja was incredibly moist, tender, and tasty. The jibarito with pork was also great; I may try the beef next time. The Cuban sampler with yucca frita and empanada are just like my mom makes. What can I say about D Cuba? I read the review here on Yelp and noticed one of my friends Carlos had done a review on this restaurant. I wanted a nice Latin restaurant to take my mom on mothers day. The places in Humboldt park are good, but the atmosphere around the places were not the best. So I took a chance and took my wife and mom to D Cuba. Absolutely Amazing! It was the perfect mothers day dinner I could've asked for. The waiters greeted us with top notch professionalism. The ambiance was just what I wanted for mom. Latin feel, nice Latin music. We ordered our food from the great choices on the menu and when they arrived they were absolutely delicious. I had the Lechon Asado and it was juicy and tasty. Mom went with the Jibarito and loved it. My wife had a steak and loved it!!! The waiters were courteous and attentive. Went for an early dinner. Place was nice and quiet. We order ceviche and ham croquettas as appetizers. Ceviche was OK. felt like it was missing some citrus flavors. We ordered ham but they tasted more like chicken. I have had both in the past and these were definitely chicken. When I asked the waitress she reassured me they were ham. But I wasn't sold. Now, that's great customer service on behalf of the server and manager. Mojitos are always delicious accompanied by one of the best empanadas I've ever had...Emapanadas de cangrejo (crab...REAL crab). Love it with their homemade hot sauce/salsa and warm garlic bread. I gave the location a 3 because the service was slow as molasses. We've been there when it's a full house and then during the week recently. With only 3 tables of four there, it was still slow. My water not being timely refilled and having to ask three times for water. And no hot sauce at all, anywhere in the restaurant, I thought that was just ODD. The server was more interested in watching the TV in the main dining room and eating the leftovers from the bread baskets. The service has not changed from the last time I was there over a year ago. The food is good, no doubt, but the service needs to improve, timing on food and table service. I will say that the food was nice and hot and delicious! read more

It's with a heavy heart I am downgrading this place. What used to be a very unique dining experience has been diminished practically to having this restaurant on life support. The service is horrible as in wait time and attentiveness. I feel for the only waitress that had to gather orders for guests, answer the phone, prep carry out, bring food out, replenish waters and beverages and process payments. Yes... 1 person does all that and more. Not her fault and I tipped her very well for a hard job she did. It took over 1 hour to get our food and when it arrived.. I bit into a frozen empanada. I ordered the chef special, lechon.. and although the pork was decently seasoned, it still tasted very bland compared to the other Cuban place down the street. We tried to get some mariquitas but we were told their machine is broken.. the thing about that is that 2 months ago we were going to order out and we were told the same thing. It was a deal breaker. You can see how the cutbacks to this place has deteriorated what once made this place a very good food spot. Ventilation is horrible so if you visit be prepared to leave smelling like you were in the kitchen cooking the food yourself. We also ordered a Media Noche sandwich and again the flavor was just not there.. the Yucca con Mojo was... I can't believe I'm saying this... bland... how is that possible?? Garlic seamed a little old.. it didn't have that mojo zest and flavor that you would get spreading that delicious sauce over your favorite dish. Even as in write this review, I am a bit sadden that this place has spiraled downward, especially when Cosmin the owner is hard at work to bring a little piece of authentic Cuban cuisine to the midwest. He needs to bring back that special and unique flavor that made this place an awesome place to eat years ago... until then... After the certificate ws applied, we paid roughly $30. It. Was. Amazing. I have no idea what they put in those beans -- possibly crack -- but they were the best black beans of my life. The service was a bit slow but well worth the wait. It's in a very random area that is a little hard to get to, especially since I was taking public transportation from the south side. Last night we ate at D'Cuba 5653 w Fullerton Ave. the atmosphere was nice and cozy, the waitress was nice. We were the only people in there, which was nice. We started out with empanadas, chicken, beef and crabmeat. They were done nicely and they had a nice flavor to them. I had the steak and shrimp which came with traditional rice and beans and cooked plantains. The steak was nice and tender, but could use a little more flavor for me. The shrimp were done perfectly. Glenda had the sizzling steak fajitas also adorned with rice and beans. The steak wasn't the usual sliced steak it was a poor quality meat looked perforated, it was tasty and well seasoned. Even though we were the only ones in the restaurant the food took a long time to get out. Also there was a slight language barrier, luckily Glenda was able to converse with her. We went here on the 2nd to last day of a Travelzoo deal so there was a Kitchen Nightmares moment. You know, the service is great until it got busy and then completely fell apart. But I forgive mostly because of the food but also because the guy who waited on us did take the time to talk to us, help us decide etc. It was interesting to see people sit so long that you could tell they were angry until they took a bite of food and.....smiles! To begin the mojito was one of the best. I can't explain why other than it was perfectly balanced and so delicious! And this is going to sound weird but we couldn't get enough of the bread that they put on the table. The black beans and rice that came with the meal. Outstanding!! The beans were smokey and the rice just sucked up all of that sauce. We had shrimp ceviche which reminded me of a refreshing version of what you get when you order shrimp cocktail in mexico. Minus the avocado. I had more shrimp for dinner. The sauce was like it had beer in it. Really interesting. My boyfriend had steak which I could tell he liked b/c he didn't speak during dinner :) For our dessert I had the coconut flan which may have started out a little too sweet but I ate it all. He had the guava empanada which were good but not great. My boyfriend's dad is from Cuba. When he's visiting from FL we are definitely taking him here. They had me waiting an additional 45 minutes past the promised time for the food. Staff was friendly, just no big sense of urgency from them. Best Cuban food in Chicago by far. Fiesta Cubana platter says it's for three but easily feeds four. The oxtail melts in your mouth, the masas de puerco fritas are so tender you don't need a knife, wish they sold the garlic mojo it's just that good and the flan is the perfect dessert as are the guava and cheese empanadas. Search no more: the best Mojito in town is right here and you can enjoy it in a classy ambiance. It was pretty quiet the afternoon we came for some light repast, there was only one server but she was quite attentive and managed the few occupied tables pretty well. We only had chicken empanada, mojito and flan de coco but they were enough for me to put it on my favorite places to visit. I will definitely try this place again (further reviews to follow). TERRIBLE, SERVICE...Place was empty other than 3 other tables. After 20 minutes, we were never greeted, and never attended to, not so much as acknowledged. When we asked if someone was going to attend to us, the answer we got was "probably NOT, we are too busy!" The waitress with light brown hair isn't the most pleasant individual you will encounter. Pick up Order: You place your order via phone and you better be prepared to give your credit card information. Which I'm not fond of. Then, you get there and your order is still not ready. I love the food here. My favorite would be Masa's De Puerco with a side of Yuca with Ajo. It's a somewhat intimate setting but casual. It's not a very large place but it does get busy. I only gave it three stars because some of the wait staff is on the snotty side and their liquor selection is very limited. I've tried a few drinks here and was hoping one day they'd be good but they weren't. I see families in there sometimes but the setting is enough to bore your children. Most likely they'll irritate you asking to leave. With all that being said I can't give up the place because the food is just that good. read more

Can I just say if you want to wait 45 minutes for a server to come by to take a drink order than this is the place for you. The whole night there was a fiasco. They served half of our table their entrees and then came back about 10 minutes later to see how everything was still without the rest of the dinners. We had to ask several times if the other entrees were on their way out.
