Last visit a total disappointment. The first thing I noticed that even though they were not busy, all of the tables were dirty. The meatball sub was the worst I have ever had. The sauce was a watery mystery while the meatballs were dry and tasted burnt. The roast beef in the sub had fat running throuh it and was disgusting. How in God's green earth can it possibly take over 25 minutes to make a veggie sandwich. There's no cooking. It's literally throwing things together that you already have and rolling it in a sheet of paper. It's never taken me more than five minutes to make a sandwich, and I'm not a professional! Don't come on your lunch break. You can have your sandwich, but won't have time to eat it, too. As for the quality... well, it's a veggie sub. Tough to screw up. It was fine. Though the "avocado" was an almost imaginary slice; a needle in a haystack of shredded lettuce. This place is known for their bread. It's fine. Just this side of too crusty for my taste but I know a lot of people love it. And they have bottles of oil all over the place, I'm assuming to moisten it so it doesn't cut your mouth. This grinder shop is well known and very popular in the Riverside CA area. There are two stores, this review deals with the University store. Large selection of hot or cold sandwiches along with several very tasty choices of salads One star marked down as the restaurant could have been cleaner than we found it this time. Still a very busy good restaurant. Hopefully the owner will direct a little more effort to spruce and tidy up the public area of this facility On a return visit in Sept 2018 we enjoyed the same delicious bread stuffed with turkey pastrami. This time I noticed the restaurant was spotless. The parking lot was clean with no trash. A nice place to stop for a grinder! read more

I have been going here since I was 8 years old and I've never had a bad experience. If I order out or dine in I always have a great meal.

All you read about is.."its the bread". Well i am hear to tell you its true..worst thing aboutcthis place was the bread. Old, crumbling, stale bread that that ruined my sandwich. My wife got a turkey, bacon,avocado..where is the ingredients??? Wow they brought subway up a couple notches. Top it all off 35$ for this?? Last 35$ ill ever spend in this place. It is all about the bread. I don't know of a better grinder roll. Period. Been going here since 1987. The neighborhood kind of rises and falls with the Santa Ana winds: for example, there have been times when the patio was oddly infested with resident crack-heads, construction workers and card-carrying gang members. The sandwiches as always are great, what I didn't like is how long I had to wait for the cashiers to attend people, I was standing right there waiting for any of the 2 guys or 2 girls to look back at the online order line to ask if I was Hemingway helped when I went to ask for my food, I had to wait another 35 minutes besides the 30 prior to my arrival to pick up my sandwiches and the other 15 I was standing waiting for them to help any of us. They need to be re train for sure, customer service was -10 today. This young kids need some customer service skills. read more

My best friend back in the day use to be manger of the one they had on Magnolia so you know I have been coming here for years. Whenever I go to DTR I always try to come here. The sandwiches are HUGE. And the bread is really large and crunchy. I first tried it and didn't like it because I wasn't used to the texture of the bread but I kept coming back and like now I love the bread. The outside has this crunchy outside shell, holds everything in. The fries are really good and crispy. I love this place. Really good place to get some hole in the wall subs. D'elia's has been here for years. I've always enjoyed buying their Capicola full grinders with everything. Bread is always cooked fresh from the oven and I've never had a complaint. Place is packed during the lunch hour so beware of limited seating. Recommendation is to phone order and pick it up. Separate line for phone order pickups which saves a great deal of time. I've eaten here at least once a week during my college years. Always make an attempt to eat at this place when I'm in the area. read more

The bread really is great! Thin, flaky, crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside. The rest of the sandwich is very average. Not the cleanest place or area. Warning, do not add avacado. As of today this is my second time eating here at the request of a friend who has been coming here for many years. First experience. I am not a big sandwich person but I ordered the Cobb salad. Big mistake. We were there close to opening and it looked like my salad was prepacked days ago. Wilty brown lettuce. I couldn't eat much of it. Come to find out apparently you do t go there for anything but sandwiches Today My friend and I go. We get there about an hour after opening. I decide to try the sandwich. I get a turkey grinder. I notice after a few bites in that I am starting to have an allergic reaction to something. I am severely allergic to fish derived products. I have to carry an Epi pen. My friend goes inside to ask for me. After some convincing the woman brings out a single nutrition facts sheet. Refuses to let my friend touch or let alone look at the paper. I go to my phone and search the website for any information regarding allergens. Nothing is listed unless I am missing something. It is now 3:41. My lip is still swollen. I just don't feel right. So far no anaphylaxis. I am still studying the menu online to see if there is anything I have missed. I know there is a law that restaurants are required to disclose certain things. I will definitely call and see if maybe I can get more information. If they aren't willing to disclose allergens. I can't eat there again. Update: The owner reached out to me to let me know I could have asked for another salad and it would have been fine. I have changed the stars from 1 to 4 because of the prompt answer to my review. I am hoping for a redo in the near future. I was assured that the salads are made fresh daily and the one I received should have been thrown out. My husband and my friend do love this place a lot. As for the the second visit I need to declare my allergy in the beginning so the proper steps can be taken to keep this from happening again. My husband did finish the sandwich from my second visit. Been going to D'Elia's all my life. Subway and all those other types of places can NOT compare to D'Elia's. You want a real, good tasting grinder? This is the place to come to!! Every time I come visit Riverside I have to make a stop here and grab a bite of their delicious goodness. I usually always get the same meal but learned they also make fries. And they're soooo good!
