When we have to make a trip to corona or riverside, we make it a point to stop at D'Elia's Grinders. We always get extra ham and lettuce and no dressing, so that we can take a few home without them getting soggy. This visit we went to the one on Van Buren and we were not disappointed. This place is good for a weekend lunch when the crowds aren't as bad as the weekdays. I typically go for the hot grinders, because a cold-cut sandwich is easy enough to do just about anywhere. The bread here is what makes the sandwiches decent; it has a crispiness to it on the outer crust, but it's soft in the middle..... usually. I have had a few times where the bread was a little dry and tough, and I had to chew a little more than normal to knock it out. This was only once, though, and the other times I've gone, it's been good. Another reviewer mentioned their "bland" fries. I actually like the fries here. They are crispy and, more importantly, low on the salt content. Perhaps the previous reviewer is used to fries coated with enough salt to season a side of beef, but I appreciate the fact that I can eat my french fries without all that. Salt, alone, does not equal flavor. Overall, this is a decent joint. read more

My husband introduced me to D'Elia's about 5 years ago. I have never eaten such a delicious sub sandwich in my life!! The bread is amazing and perfectly baked. I remember my mom taking me here as a kid and years later the food is just as good as I remembered. Although everything looks/sounds great on the menu, my ultimate favorite sandwich is the Sicilian grinder. I can not get enough of that fresh yet crunchy messy bread they make. It totally makes a sandwich a good sandwich when the bread is on point. I have also had the ham & cheese, the meatball sub as well as the pastrami. All are really good as well but I always revert back to my original fav... The Sicilian! They also have pretty good sides and delicious fresh cookies. Our DoorDash order was a mess and I'm pretty sure it wasn't our Dasher's fault. We ordered three sandwiches, two arrived as ordered. However, instead of a Chicken BLT, we got a Philly instead. Tried calling the store multiple times to figure out what happened but their number was permanently busy. Calling the other store didn't help because it wasn't their order which makes sense. Anyways, we reordered to try to get the sandwich. It initially said it would take 40 minutes, but I checked a half-hour later and the wait time had been extended to an hour! So they messed up our order, were impossible to contact, and would have taken an hour to rectify it. Do yourself a favor and order from/go to the Van Buren one instead. I started going to D'Elia's when you ordered from a window and sat at the tables outside, small building at that time. I always have the yummy ham with extra oil and I can eat the whole thing... no problem. My family lives about 30 miles away, I live about 130 miles away now but this has always been a special place for us and we always go out of our way to make sure we have time to make the trip for the greatest grinders on earth. I always find people there that feel just as I do and that agree with me in that...D'Elia's grinders are one of a kind and are hard to explain, they are NOT a sub. Oh my...I so want one right now!!! We have been going to this restaurant...at all their locations for at least 40 years. We are now done!!! The last several times at the University location have all been terrible experiences! The workers are lazy, incoherent and don't give a ....! My husband tonight had to repeat his order at least twice for each item! If he hadn't been paying attention who knows what we would have got! We are over hoping somebody here will care about their job or the customers! And the food is not close to what it use to be...not even near! Recently the times i have gone, it seems like there is LESS AND LESS MEAT added to the sandwiches. THIS PLACE has lost some customers because of this that i know of. There are at least 3 people that I KNOW, that have said they stopped going here based on how they are being really "stingy" with their meat on the sandwiches. I think if they just add the amount of meat as the competitors... there would be much better reviews of this place. Great place to stop for a tasty sandwich! The fresh baked rolls are crispy on the outside and pillowy soft in the middle. I ordered the Italian that had cappacola and salami. Great tasting with a little extra oil (which doubles nicely in softening up the crusty bread!) Everything tastes fresh.
