The fried okra (crisp as you could ask) is excellent and the curly fries with Kalua pork are outrageous. What separates this BBQ from the rest are not the ribs (which are great) but the brisket, which is tender, falling apart and caramelized at the same time. I moved to Kauai August 2017 & have been here full time since August 2018. FYI, I'm a complete foodie & if I remembered to pull up this app 1/2 the time, my profile would have a TON more reviews! So I live in Lihue right up the street from Kauai Beer Co. On Tuesday, they have a food truck event which I thought would be fun to join in on considering I've gone to more restaurants then food trucks since being on island. This was the 2nd food truck event I'd been to. I hadn't had BBQ in awhile, other than Chicken in a Barrel, which I love! Anyway, I hesitated to leave this review but glad I waited. Going through the Yelp & Facebook reviews, I noticed a VERY obvious pattern w/ the 1-3 star reviews; customer service, mainly relating to ATTITUDE. Tonight on Facebook, I come across some recent posts & noticed 2 recent pics for ribs & burnt ends were noted as #beef. The owner responded to my question on Facebook w/ very flippant responses which I was taken aback by. Here's the deal; before I ordered at their truck that evening, I asked the young guy who took my order if the ribs were pork or beef. Valid question as their menu does NOT specify which meat type & for those like me, whether it's a personal/dietary &/or religious preference, I feel it's important to know. Like if they're beef, I'll order the ribs, if they're pork, I'll go for the chicken or something else, right? I'm going to say this.... The sides that came w/ my plated meal were great; you could tell they're homemade & the coleslaw was different but very good! Instead of rolls, I received sliced bread. Not a deal breaker that would cause a star loss. But after experiencing that infamous attitude that has been mentioned by others? I don't know if I would come back to this place the next time I have a bbq craving. Heck, Chicken in a Barrel is still my go-to for chicken on the island & that has ZERO to do w/ the owners' response! Anyone who's been there knows what I mean. I understand the owner has a passion for his craft & I respect that, but dude, you ARE running a BUSINESS. Not just having a cookout in your backyard w/ family & friends. It's a different dynamic. People are investing in you & your product. A bad attitude can ruin a good meal. You need to think long term. I may be a transplant from the mainland, but think of all the tourists that you cater to on a daily basis... I was once a tourist. Think of all those people that go back to the mainland or wherever they're visiting from... word of mouth is like bees to the nest; one goes back & tells the ENTIRE tribe, "go here for the good stuff, stay away from there!"... So as I said, the negative reviews have been consistent. Please be more mindful towards people who ask questions about your food. Them ASKING is part of the SALES process. They're called "buyer questions". If I made flippant comments to my clients or potential clients, not only would I LOSE CURRENT business, but you bet your ass word spreads in the industry. ANY industry. Like "don't work w/ this person, they've got an attitude". It adds up over time & you lose BIGTIME. No matter what your day is like, if you're feeling overwhelmed, take a freakin break for 10 minutes! Heck, take a breather. No ones insulting you or your food by asking a QUESTION about it, especially when it's not being answered on the menu or in the step x step order process you've posted. People like your food, so humble yourself for more consistent positive reviews. Keep in mind, Yelp is also a network. So you have people from ALL OVER THE COUNTRY checking reviews about where to go when they're in town. As a business owner, you need to pay attention because this is showing you where you need improvement. It's your choice to work long hours in a hot truck all day. But don't you think that it would be more fulfilling during the times a potential customer asks a question, you just take a quick moment to center yourself & answer it? If it's not specified on the menu, update the menu w/ the correct info so you don't have to deal w/ that question again. Simple. Think about all the questions a buyer would ask ahead of time, have a way to have it answered, or train your people to know the answers. There are plenty of great courses in sales, take them online in your spare time. In the mean time, NOT sure if I will stop by this truck again. When it comes to the future, I know for sure if I got married I would want some kind of bbq catered but I wouldn't want my guests saying the "highlight" of my wedding was how rude the food catering service was... yea, I think that far ahead. read more

Finding Darren (hope I am spelling the owner's name correctly) open on a Super Bowl Sunday was the first amazing part of our day. Meeting a most grounded and friendly owner and learning he's from Oakland CA where were are traveling from) was the funnest synchronistic experience. Then getting to enjoy the tenderest and most delicious brisket was the best part. Throughout my life growing up in the US south, I've had good ribs, okay ribs, and rather sad ribs...Today was one of those rare few times you find GREAT ribs! Perfectly cooked, sauced, and served with a hunk of white bread. Took me right back to Dreamland in Alabama (if you love ribs you know Dreamland). Ok, let's get down to it. This place is simply outstanding!! True dry rub bbq. I can't imagine the work that must be involved in prepping meat if this quality every day and in a food truck! Stopped for lunch at exactly the right time and place today! Last day of my trip and was hungry and craving some good BBQ. D Green's did not disappoint! I was here right at 11 when they opened. I got the 2 meat plate with pulled pork and brisket. That comes with 2 sides: I ordered coleslaw and mac & cheese. The pulled pork and the brisket were both tender and delicious, with just the right amount of smoke and bark on the brisket. The sauce was delicious (there are 3 levels of spice: regular, medium, and hot). The sides were excellent. I was especially impressed with the mac and cheese: it had interesting spices in the bechamel that really added to the unique flavor. There is a nice seating area around the trucks there, with a cornhole beanbag toss setup you can play while you wait for your food. Excellent food, great spot to stop for lunch! read more

"I've been around the world and I-I". I'm a serious BBQ head, and spent time in Lexington NC, Kansas City, in Texas and many spots in between. This is the real deal. Not only is this the best BBQ in Hawaii, this is some of the best BBQ I've ever had. It's rare that chefs get the brisket, pulled pork and ribs all correct - but this dude is out here doing just that. We come to Kauai every couple years and are always struck why there isn't a line around the block to get to this smoky, juicy, sweet, spicy flavor combo. Good bbq is not something I expect to find in Hawaii, let alone at home on Kauai. Dgreens Nailed it. Both the Ribs & Brisket are on point, juicy tender, flavorful, falling apart no knife needed, plus burnt ends thrown in for good measure!! Different spice level sauces for everyone, tried spicy and medium so far, both were good. So much delicious Smokey flavor. Mac and cheese is classic homemade baked goodness. Don't expect it to resemble kraft Mac n cheese, this is real adult food here. Comfort food to the max. Baked beans are a step above as well. Now that Sueokas is owned by ABC store, I'll gladly come here instead & spend a little more for this homemade meal. Prices are inline for what you would expect for Kauai, the quality and portions. The meat was soooooo tender. I had ribs and brisket. His brisket was more tender than my Yiddisha Grandmother. The sides, beans and coleslaw were also very food. Beans were killer, and slaw had more carrots than cabbage, with a very light, and not overly sweet dressing. I decided I needed to get some hushpuppies too. Just perfect.. hot, crispy, and flavorful. I'd get them again. One woman on here wrote a pretty scathing review complaining about attitude, and sliced wheat bread instead of rolls. Ya cant take your home town with you, so go with the flow..I did not experience any bad attitudes. The owner was polite, and very personable. Came here on 3/20/2019.. my fiancée and I shared the large plate $20. You get 2 meats and 2 sides: we opted for the ribs & hot links with cole slaw and Mac & cheese with medium spicy BBQ sauce. This was enough to feed us both and satisfied! This place is a legit BBQ spot! We tried to come here a few days prior, but it was already closed (at 3pm). Everything was solid! For a food truck, the food was alright. The meat came out okay, there was quite a bit of fat on it but it tasted good. The Mac and cheese wasn't exactly mac and cheese, it was kind of mushy not very yummy at all. A buddy recommended that I try this place and there is a reason he is my friend...this was spot on, very good and very reasonable in price. When you factor in the quantity and quality of food it's a great bargain, especially anywhere near Poipu. My wife and I shared a 2 meat plate with pulled pork and brisket with a side of beans and Mac and cheese and still had leftovers. The brisket and pulled pork were tender and the tangy yet sweet BBQ sauce had just a tinge of pineapple and really gave this meal a Hawaiian flair. The beans were meaty and unique with more of that tanginess found in the other sauces. I was also very pleased with the owner operator who was pleasant and very accommodating to my son, who has several developmental disabilities and is a picky eater. Although brisket or pulled pork are usually the only sandwiches he makes, he made a special chopped chicken sandwich with more of that flavorful BBQ sauce and my son's pickiness was gone...he devoured the yummy sandwich. The only reason I gave this a 4 star was we had to share the picnic setting with the frickin chickens...Roosters everywhere like the rest of the island. Heard of this place from a good friend, I got the rib plate, the brisket plate, potato salad and cole slaw on one and coleslaw and Mac and cheese on the other. All of it was really good (I'm not a huge Mac and cheese guy and the Mac and cheese was good) the meat is FIRE! (Not fire as in hot but fire as in amazing) so good and I'm a picky bbq guy, the ribs where perfect not fall off the bone mushy but bite into and pull off the bone perfect. The game changer is the bbq sauce it's legit, it's like he didn't try to do too much with it, he keeps it simple but unique enough of a taste to know you haven't had exactly it before, that's why you keep taking more bites trying to decide if it's the meat that tastes sooo good or the bbq sauces. So dude threw a couple burnt ends in on top and told me "you will love these" they were ridiculously good the kind of good that you type a long ass review in yelp for them Good.
