Wowzers! After a long day zip lining we stopped off in Hannapepe since it was a Friday night. The couple that owns the truck were awesome and their son did magic tricks for us while we waited for our food. They said the menu changes but the one we got was delicious. My dad had the Ahi tuna melt - he raved about it (ate it so quick I didn't snag a bite!), my mom had the burger which was delicious, and I had the Lamb Melt with AJus dipping sauce. It had just the right amount of cheese and jalapeños! The bread was fantastic. They serve it with a side of kettle chips- chefs kiss! It was the perfect night and they had a cute little table with heart shaped place mats and a little chandelier- it was the perfect ambiance! Truly a magical experience! read more

Hoo wee what a damn good burger. Excuse me, an AWESOME burger. I should have known it would all go down well because the staff is incredibly friendly AND, when told "Brian" for my order, they spelled it the correct way without hesitation. When they're in Hanapepe on Fridays, they have a table and 4 chairs next to the truck. That table was taken by a couple and their baby (eating food from another establishment...lame) and their nanny who was coming down from taking an edible during the baby's nap (the best guess from the Kickshaw's staff and myself) and while entertaining to watch, I was stranded so they let me dine at the pickup window. As I ate each bite of deliciousness, the cook was coming back to check in and to see what the hell was going on at the table. It gave me the opportunity to tell him, continually, how top notch the food was and how happy I became. By the time I finished, I was out of compliments. If you are in Kauai, and you love good burgers, you MUST come to Kickshaws for the Awesome Burger! It was huge, and I didn't think I could finish it. But I did, and I enjoyed every single bite. It came with buttered corn and kettle chips, which were also good, and my plate was clean. All the food I had was gone!! Last night, we saw Kickshaws on the local promotional TV Channel in our hotel room. Then I checked them out on Yelp. We had two places where they might have been today. One was at the Warehouse3540. They weren't there. Next was their location on Koloa Road. They WERE here! Yes, hard to find them, but we'll worth the trip. We were shocked that they weren't busy at 1:15 on 3/8/23. But after we ordered 2 burgers for $30 (what a deal!), the place was jumping! We got our food in about 15 minutes - as someone said before me, this is not fast food or food you get fast. This spot was a recommended food truck to try in Kauai! There are many food truck options on this island and this one was great! They share a small area in a park with various other food trucks including a bbq truck, dim sum truck, and Naruto Noodles. We arrived on a Saturday at 11am and none of the other trucks were opened. We were so lucky we got to eat here because we really wanted to try Kickshaws! We ordered a fish sandwich, the 100% awesome burger and the hot totty. The wait was about 15 mins for the food but they serve "good food FAST not Fast food". We sat by the tables on whats left of the old sugarmill. There are some history and some statues you can take a look at while you wait. The fish sandwich was very good, comes with corn and fries. My hubby liked his burger which also came with corn and fries. We couldve done without the hot totty because it was alot of food already but we couldnt resist tots!! Delicious!! Rightfully Righteous Pulled Pork Sandwich with a house made pepper jack cheese sauce and a side of chips. This sandwich was recommended by Huxley. The sandwich was deliciously greasy and full of flavor. Would have enjoyed a touch more of the cheese sauce. The hybrid burger had a combination of manchego, gouda, sautéed mushrooms, garlic, and arugula. Hands down the best burger I've had since Yard House did away with their surf and turf. Loved the convenience of wrapped utensils and a single plastic glove. The attention to detail was a pleasant surprise. The Crème Brûlée Lime and Ginger was set to perfection with a delicious caramelized topping. A bit more ginger than lime. Would love to see this dessert in other variations. Waking up this morning I had a hankering for a tasty burger and a refreshing beverage. And check and mate, well done Kickshaws. Firstly, when I rolled up and saw my man wearing full on goggles manning the grill I knew if made the right choice. The awesome burger was a culinary journey down the river Styx with a soundtrack furnished by Styx. The aioli, burger and bacon worked seamlessly to meld into a flavor extravaganza. Honestly, I couldn't tell where one flavor began and another ended. Normally with a bacon burger the bacon can be overpowering, don't get me wrong I love bacon but it can come on too strong. Kind of like when you get too drunk and come on to strong with someone who has a crush on you. But the bacon worked organically to build on the flavor profile to strengthen it. Also, by the by, that was the craziest burger patty I've ever seen. Not at all a complaint, mine came out shaped like Dan Ackroyd's head in cone heads. But that extra little beef triangle was the perfect preview into the flavor profile of the burger, and lord have mercy was it a banger. Moving onto the hot totty, a waffle made of tots covered in cheese. I feel like there's no reason to even waste your time hyping this up. Because stop what you are doing and get in your car right now to buy one. Now I know my man in the goggles worked very hard to perfect the flavor profile of the burger, but I must confess that throwing a little bit of the hot totty in the burger took it to a part of heaven I had no idea existed. 10/10 would return. read more

Had a great burger from these folks half a year ago, but was really disappointed today. It was a thick patty that literally had the consistency of sausage. Easily fell apart, was super lean, with pretty much no crust. The bun, cheese, and bacon were fine, but the consistency and taste of the burger was not excellent. It was served with a waffle hash brown side that also disappointed. If you're a fan of traditional mainland burgers, this shouldn't be your first choice. Perhaps this is serving a nieche populous that enjoys this style of burger, but I'll concede in not appreciating whatever market they are trying to appease. Their signs are hilarious and they do a good job about establishing customer/business boundaries without coming off as rude, rather funny and a good reminder to not be a jerk. I loved their truck design and their food names. Their food was great and despite being incredibly busy, I think the sandwiches we got were well worth it. The turkey burger was great since most turkey burgers can easily be too dry, this had a great flavor and the best part was the lemon aioli and blueberry compote to add a burst of flavor to the sandwich. The titillating PBAT was a great combo of pork, bacon, avocado, and tomato. It had all the right balance to really make the sandwich, well, titillating. They are both so filling finishing just the sandwich was enough for a whole meal, but the green beans served with it are so yummy. We love a good food truck but a great food truck is unbeatable. The jackfruit sandwich was so bomb yall! Most people don't come through with food vegan dishes and just add spice to it because they cannot season it. Not the kickshaws. The jackfruit was seasoned very well and the sauce on it was delicious. I will be back before we leave the island. My son got a cheeseburger and he didn't say a word (for like 20 minutes) for the first time or while trip. Was very excited to try their food buy we may have hit a bad batch. It was extremely salty and inedible. We got the bitchin burger and the jalapeno bitchin burger. The meat patty itself was very extremely salty. The bun, the cheese and jalapeno popper were fine. It was definitely just the meat. The hot totty (tater tots shaped like waffle) were fine and not salty like the burgers. We just ended up tossing out the burgers and eating the food we got from other trucks. From the reviews I would say this may have been a random incident. I did let them know so I'm hoping they'll adjust for others. Any good cook knows to fry a little batch of the mix to taste for spices. This was missed in this batch and we wasted over $30. P.s. few hours later my feet were so swollen from the few bites I took of the burger that the only pair of nice shoes I had brought didn't fit on my feet to go to our nice dinner we had made reservations for (so had to dock it down one more star). Please allow me to describe one of the most transcendent food experiences of my entire life. First, some background: my all-time favorite sandwich is a tuna melt. As such, I am willing to go out of my way to find a good one. Such was the case when I came across Kickshaws; I had been looking at the best places to find food on Kaua'i, and when I saw that Kickshaws' menu included a "Tremendous Tuna Melt," I knew I needed to pay a visit to the truck. Kickshaws is owned by self-taught chef Seth Peterson, who takes a molecular, experimental approach to his dishes with his biological and chemical science background. Each dish has a unique effect on the palate and reflects his cooking style. Upon arrival, I (obviously) ordered the Tremendous Tuna Melt ($15), which entraps fresh, locally-caught ahi, havarti cheese, pickled red onions, and a caper aioli between two slices of sourdough from local bakery Deli & Bread Connection. My dad decided on the 100% Awesome Burger ($12), which consists of an 80% chuck/20% bacon patty, cheddar cheese, mayo, arugula, tomatoes, and a pineapple-black pepper onion marmalade on a torta roll. Both items came with potato chips and a side of asparagus; we also supplemented these with an order of the Hot Totty ($6), which is basically a huge waffle made of smashed tater tots and drenched in pepper jack cheese sauce. First off: this tuna melt is absolutely, undeniably, shockingly delicious. Never have I seen every single component of a sandwich work so harmoniously with the others. The ahi portion was not only huge (a large steak cut), but incredibly juicy, flavorful, and fresh. The caper aioli has to be the single most unique condiment I've ever tried; its garlic notes paired perfectly with the wonderful buttery, creamy, and nutty flavor of the havarti, as well as with the punch from the pickled red onions. Even the bread (which was griddled to golden-brown perfection) was fantastic; I might have to pay Deli & Bread Connection a visit after this. I quite literally have dreams about this sandwich, and have not been able to stop thinking about it even after returning home from my vacation. Tremendous, indeed. Though the tuna melt stole the show, the other items were phenomenal as well. The 100% Awesome Burger was sublime; the patty was cooked to a perfect medium-rare, and once again all of the other ingredients came together to produce amazing flavors on so many levels. The Hot Totty tasted just as you would expect (can you ever go wrong with fried potatoes and melted cheese?); we probably could have gone without it, but I'm still glad we tried it. Needless to say, Kickshaws is one of my favorite joints ever, and serves up my favorite sandwich of all time by a mile. I am genuinely sad that it is so far away from me, and that I have to wait until my next visit to Kaua'i to have it again, but I guess now I have another reason to visit this wonderful island again soon! read more

There have been plenty of times I have given high marks for everything but food and had a mediocre score overall because the food just didn't cut it. Kickshaws is the opposite. Seriously great food. Carefully thought out menu with great ingredients brilliantly prepared. Imagine a tuna melt with big chunks of tuna cooked perfectly, gooey slightly sharp cheese that holds together on wonderful bread. Perfect example of everything that comes out of the truck.
