They are so sweet to my Frenchie Merlin who is nervous to be away from me. They always greet him gently with encouraging words and a smile and when he's in the playroom he gets pets from the caretaker. They really seem to connect with dogs as individuals, quirks and all. Merlin can be a bit of a curmudgeon (even though he's only four!). They sometimes send me funny pictures of him, which I really appreciate. read more

Also a great benefit they have on sight is grooming so you can take care of that in the same day. I've been watching the doggy cam at this location for awhile now and I am always disappointed by the lack of engagement by the people who work there. They are in the room with the dogs but do not play or really engage much with them. I would not send my dog here based on what I've seen. read more

I'm not sure what has changed, whether it's new staff or management but the team lacks care and attentiveness with dogs. Watching the cameras, the dogs seem very bored, windows are closed, and everyone is on their phones. The daycare used to be lively, staff were engaged and seemed genuinely happy to be with the pups now it's not as warm and they don't remember my dog like the old staff did. They also used to leash up my dog before bringing them out, the old staff were great at it and so fast but now I've had to ask for my dogs things at both locations (22nd st & 6thave) and put the harness on near the doors that are no longer securely locked so at any moment someone could open it by accident and a dog can escape. The place also no longer smells clean either as they now mop pee with same used mop all day & clean with the room with said mop (watch cameras) - unsanitary. Its just turned into another one of those other daycares that don't seem to care. If they bring back caring people & sanitary practices, my dog & I will be back but until then, I feel like my pup has a better time at home especially if he's going to just sit around in daycare in a smelly room. Do better, D is for Doggy used to be a great place. read more

She loves all her pals she's made, and is so excited to always go back! Always a win when she comes home exhausted from her day of adventures. Stephanie is a gem! Terrible customer service. The manager Stephanie lacks customer service skills. She was so blatantly rude when I asked about rates and prices and implied that I can't afford the prices and to go elsewhere after I asked about rates for grooming. It was extremely rude and classist. Not only was her breath rancid, i witnessed her being extremely rude to her employees and very entitled. It's clear that she holds herself on a pedi stool and lacks communication skills. Seriously, get a new manager. She's terrible. read more

D is for Doggy is awesome!! Not only does my dog love it there and come back completely tuckered out from fun, but the staff is friendly and takes good care of their charges. The big dog room gives them plenty of space to romp around, and there is always somebody with the dogs, mopping up messes, keeping the place as clean as possible, and breaking up any aggressive play (trust me, I probably spend too much time checking the webcam to make sure my dog is behaving herself and having fun!) Another important thing to note is that even though accidents can happen, the staff are honest and forthcoming and do everything possible to prevent them. A few months ago, they told me that my ridgeback, Nika, had startled another dog when he/she was sleeping. The other dog apparently lashed out at her and she got a few nicks on her forehead and muzzle (not really a preventable accident.) Being an overprotective owner, I was horrified but very very glad that they told me what had happened. Some places might not have mentioned anything, but I was grateful for the information and if anything it made me trust them more. They occasionally send pictures and take the dogs out for walks, which is great! Nika loves it so much she barely wants to leave when I pick her up--I'm glad we've found a good place for her to play! read more

Our dog has been coming here several times a week for about a year and a half now and I can't recommend it enough. The staff is incredible - they are so kind and they go above and beyond every day. We are so relieved to have stumbled onto this place - Stephanie, Amy, Karina, Ghislaine and the whole team have made this an amazing home away from home for our pup. It's a game changer to be able to leave our dog for ~11 hours during long work shifts knowing she will be having a great time and so getting so much love from the staff. Sal is a talented groomer and has worked some miracles on our doodle's tangles. Prices are standard for Manhattan and our dog quickly liked it more than the other local spots we tried. One or two reviewers below are clearly the problem and not the business -- we have never had anything short of wonderful customer service and an all around great experience in our pup's approximately 200 visits. read more

I don't even know where to begin with how much I love D is for Doggy. They are located a block away from my apartment and I cannot walk my dog in that direction because he will *forcefully* drag me to their front door. Tiffany who is at the front desk 90% of the time is just the most wonderful human, and the dogs all ~*adore*~ her. It's amazing to be able to watch the nanny cam (albeit creepy when you're at your desk at work and your coworker walks by) and check in on your pup. I love that the second something super minor happens you get an email from them (e.g., your dog [read: my dog] is an obsessive player, so the second after he eats his dinner and tries to go back to playing with other pups, he pukes up his food). We are moving to Brooklyn in a few months and it's just devastating that there is no DIFD there :'( :'( PLEASE! HEAR US! But regardless, thank you so much to Tiffany esp and to everyone at DIFD :-* We also only get him groomed here. The groomer has never done us wrong! My puppy took socialization classes here with a trainer and enjoyed it, so I thought it would be the best place for my puppy to occasionally go for daycare when needed. I was wrong. My puppy got conjunctivitis after his first time. That was not cheap to treat. My puppy had to avoid all dogs for a week, which is almost impossible living in the city. My puppy was miserable. The last time time my puppy went to daycare, I arrived to hearing my puppy screaming. It was horrible. They moved my puppy from the small dog area to the big dog area. My puppy weighed maybe 17lbs, and was not a big dog. The only other dog in the big dog area was cuddling with a staff member who was sitting in a chair in the middle or the room. When I asked why my puppy was moved and why my puppy was locked up, no one gave me a straight answer. There were no managers around when I asked for one, so I asked them to have one call me. And the camera was down in the big dog area so when I asked to pull the video, they could not. I grabbed my dog and left. When I spoke to a manager, they told me they moved my puppy to the big dog area because my puppy was playing. Are puppies not allowed to play? My puppy normally just wanted to be held by the staff members at daycare, and I have screenshots of those cuddles as it was so cute. When I asked the manager why my puppy was locked up in the big dog area, I again was not given a straight answer. They said my puppy either was playing too hard or was getting in the way of the staff cleaning. Neither could have been proven, and both did not reflect my puppy's demeanor. Also, there was only one other dog in the big dog area, one dog being cuddled by one staff member. No staff member was cleaning. And my puppy was screaming. My puppy was traumatized and was acting totally weird for days, hiding and scared. AVOID if you care about the well being of your dog. read more

This review is on their daycare services....I love this place and my dog loves it even more. The staff is great. We don't use daycare often so we are not regulars here but when we do come, they always remember us! The awesome things they offer in daycare: they can feed your dog meals - your own food or theirs, they give them walks, keep track of when they go to the bathroom and always have a staff monitoring the playroom. Daycare Review: Today was Shaggy Magoo's second time ever at doggy day care. He is a shy Shih Zhu terrier mix who I adopted a little over two months ago. Magoo loves people but tends to be timid around other dogs. Even though Magoo still has a ways to go before becoming a social butterfly -- I can already see the positive impact daycare has had on him. On our walk home from daycare today Magoo proactively went to 'say hello' to a fellow doggo on the sidewalk. This may not sound like groundbreaking progress to most people reading but it is! Magoo's typical m.o is to completely ignore a passing dog altogether. I'm sure Magoo will continue to make great strides with the help of the kind and attentive 6th ave staff! I only used these people for grooming, which i did six weeks before writing this review. When calling for the apt, I was told that there were two groomers - each equally good - one charging $75, the other $85. Asking about dental policy was told that their policy wast that came from free with the groomer, with either groomer. When I got there, I was told, by another person, that the lower groomer had just raised her rates, both at $80. I went along with it. Made an apt. couple of days ago for another visit. On the phone I was told nothing about any changes. When I Arrived there This time, I was told - by Yet another parson there is only a new groomer, with a higher rate, $90, and that dental cleaning was extra, another $10 - they were running a Special in July, this one said, it was Never there policy to have that as part of the usual grooming fee. I started a ruckus The very first person came out - one Moby, was his name - and offered to do the Whole shebang for just $75, knowing full well that my whole story was true. I told him that I could not be bought of by bait and switch artists. Watch out for this gang. Get a promised deal sent in Email, or faxed before you do ANYthing with them - or, better, go elsewhere, as their haircutting isn't all that great, and you'll have have to go back before you thought. I am returning to Doggy style. They are expensive, but they are honest about it. And the haircuts are better, with less frequent returns needed. read more

I have a 4 1/2 month old Shiba puppy, Kylie. Prior to her rabies shot, we kept her crated while we were at work, and hired a walker to come twice a day. We decided to put her in daycare so she could roam freely about with other dogs. The costs were comprable but the benefits were unmeasurable: $660/month for a dog walker to come twice a day vs. $783/month (incl. tax) for unlimited daycare from 7:30am-9pm. I want to say that the staff is amazing. Each employee truly loves dogs- you see their faces light up when you bring your dog in! There is a webcam and whenever I watch it from work, I either see the employees playing/holding/petting the dogs or cleaning up doggy accidents. There are a few different rooms for the dogs. Room 1 is for small/younger dogs with more energy- you'll see them running around constantly. Room 2 is for older, bigger dogs- these rascles are usually sleeping. A third room is for dogs that need their own space (really old, not feeling well?). D is for Doggy is very accomodating. They will take your pup out for relieves up to 6 times a day depending on their schedule, and will feed them up to 3 meals a day also depending on their schedule. For no additional costs! (I know some daycares charge for that!). I'll definitely be posting a follow up after Kylie's first month there :) read more

My dog is so excited every time she walks into D is for Doggy - which is the only review that really counts. She can't wait to go and is definitely bummed out when she leaves. The staff are super nice and deal with issues like pros. Plus dogs get a walk during the day - unlike a lot of NYC daycares - and there's a free webcams - unlike a lot of other daycares where they upcharge. Anyone concerned with "injuries" or giardia doesn't understand the nature of daycare of dogs - these things happen and it's not the end of the world. Our dog Barrett went to D is for Doggy three times a week for just under 4 months. He no longer (sadly) goes because we moved to Brooklyn. If you have any questions about where to send your dog to DayCare, undoubtedly and without reserve, we recommend that you take them here. I checked out both Biscuits and Bath and Spot prior to D is for Doggy (those were the names I was familiar with). The employees at B&B were perfectly fine but the store and daycare area was crowded and smelly. The employees at Spot did not even look up to say hello to Barrett (leading me to believe they would be similar in their care towards him) when we walked in, which I found odd for a dog place, especially because he is one adorable puppy. At D is for Doggy, the employees were sweet and kind and interested in him and his breed. He is quite shy and they worked with him to the point where HE WOULDN'T LEAVE DAYCARE. I am not exaggerating here- he wouldn't leave. ever. He would sit down, put the brakes on and an employee would have to help me to the corner. He loved every employee there and in a week his skiddish nature was completely gone at DayCare. He routinely pulled to go to daycare if we were walking by and always tried to trick us into walking past. I always trusted the employees at D is for Doggy with Barrett. They are sweet and caring and gentle and clearly take good care of the dogs. There is always sitting in the pen with the dogs which was great for our snuggler of a dog. Absolutely no complaints- we were worried he would learn to bark at daycare but he didnt. We miss D is for Doggy already! read more

This is the ONLY place where the friendly, warm staff treats your dog baby like... a real baby! i would not trust anywhere else with my pup. After a distrastrous stay at Camp Canine (where they LOST my dog in central park and someone found her on craigslist--no joke --see my 1 star review on them), i researched high and low. Biscuits and Bath had terrible reviews. Wet Nose Doggy Care smelt of urine and the prices were very unreasonable (and the dogs looked depressed). Well D is For Doggy came to the rescue. Cage-free (even at night!) . No urine smell. clean, open. warm staff. they called my vet to get the records, so proactive. they are so open that they have webcams to view your dog live during the day, and take your dog for up to 4 walks a day, and there is ALWAYS a human in the room with them. Sometimes they'll even take snapshots of your dog playing and send it to your email. what service! The employees are truly dog lovers, not disgruntled minimum wage workers like most other places. The huge windows are evidence and you see the staff interacting with the dogs at all hours. don't trust me? view the webcam. Safety and trust is most important -- and it is reasonably priced for the quality of care. I could not recommend this place more. read more

Just picked up my dog Autumn from D is for Doggy, and I HAD to leave an amazing review! This is now the second time she stayed at the kennel for multiple days. The first time, she was only a 4 month old puppy, and she stayed for a whole week while I was out of the country. I was so worried that she wouldn't be able to handle being away from her family for so long, but little did I know she'd find another family at this kennel! She clearly loved it! On the webcam, I could see that all the dogs were very happy and playing, and were getting a lot of attention from the employees - lots of cuddles and love! It's obvious that the employees care specifically about each dog. The first time Autumn stayed, the employees texted us pictures of her being cute! And they also gave her a nickname - Queen Bee - because of her personality :) This time, when we went to pick her up, they told us details about her that must have required a lot of paying attention. Specifically, they said she didn't eat as much of her breakfast as usual this morning, so she might eat a lot when she gets home. I mean, you have to be really caring to notice that kind of thing for one specific dog of many! I'm also pretty sure they gave her a bath, even though that totally wasn't necessary, and not paid for at all. And we forgot to tell them, but under her eyes tends to get dry - and not only did they notice that, but when they returned her to us I noticed they had put doggy lotion under her eyes! I melted when I saw that! Also, the webcam service is the BEST! I missed her so much, and being able to see her every day whenever I wanted was great! read more

I had to look for a new groomer when I moved here, and after five years with the same groomer, I was not optimistic. But D is for Doggy was my first find, and I'm not going anywhere else. I've procrastinated on this review but I wanted to make sure they get the five stars they deserve. TLDR they were reasonable, honest, and good to my dog! First impressions: - responded in less than a couple hours - on the cheaper end compared to other places I'd called - gave an accurate quote and did not take the opportunity to sell me on tons of other services - patient and thorough even when I called multiple times to ask a million questions (that's what a scattered brain going through a last minute move to NYC looks like). Post impressions: - My dog was VERY matted before coming here. Like one-giant-dreadlock kind of matted (had to leave him with a sitter for a month). Of course they had trouble, and on one part of his leg, I guess the hair being pulled left a little red rash type of mark. They immediately brought it to my attention, and assured me that they had been as gentle as they could and that it would go away in just a couple days. - My dog is also high anxiety - when I looked through the glass to come pick him up, he was hanging out with the receptionist next to her by her chair. That's a really good sign when my dog doesn't like strangers. read more

Sal is TERRIFIC. Over the years he has done a great job on Django, JJ, and now Jamie. All rescued dogs, Django was a shitzu, JJ was a llasa/havanese mix, and Jamie is a westie/maltese mix with one ear always up. Each one was beautiful and Sal sure knows how to style their hair. We have our 2 small "terrier" dogs groomed here. (We have never 'boarded' our dogs here so my review is strictly on grooming services). SAL who is the primary groomer is outstanding. SAL is a true professional! SAL listens well to suggestions and directions. SAL is also very quick in terms of his services, which we like so that our elderly dogs are not put in a cage for hours at a time like often is the case with other groomers. The "staff" at D is for Doggy is also really good .......friendly, caring and loving with the dogs. ALEX, in particular, is very, very good. We've been taking our 7mth old puppy For a few weeks now and he LOVES this place. The staff are always friendly and Luca always has a great time playing with the various dogs attending. As protective parents we often checkin via the webcam and always see the dogs having a good time while a staffer is always on hand to clean up and catch any aggression before it escalates.
