I'm very disappointed by Kitty in NY (the "agency" ), specifically their caregiver, Jody R., for the lack of accountability, negligence of care and poor communication. I would not recommend Jody or this service to anyone. For context, I was overseas visiting my family over the holidays and just picked up my Maine Coon. My cat's fur absolutely reeked of smoke. He's a long haired cat and upon return, was also severely matted. Two months prior, I had met Jody for an initial, in-person meet and greet to manage communication and care expectations for cat boarding. Detailed care and communication parameters were established in the onset, baked into the contract, signed by all parties so everyone was on the same page. There were no "mismatch" of communication or care expectations. Fast forward to today, not once was it disclosed that someone in her household smoked. I also gave Jody very specific care instructions, that my long haired cat had to be brushed everyday. Ultimately my cat came back in a state of severe discomfort from the pulling of the matting on his skin. Jody also did not provide clean, filtered water on a daily basis. I had to follow up with her multiple times, before she finally disclosed her filter wasn't working for days. To anyone reading this, how are these actions not negligent by the caregiver? Would you consider this a safe and risk-free environment when your cat comes home reeking of smoke? Isn't this / borderline animal abuse? It was also baked into our contract that Jody was suppose to provide daily updates, considering I was going to be overseas for 19 days. When I would ask her about how my cat is doing, she would basically tell me to "shut up" and stop sending her texts. Isn't she getting paid / part of her responsibility as a cat sitter to provide daily updates? I've also addressed these issues directly with John W. at the agency. John chalked it up with the "we are sorry" and doesn't do anything about it. I pressed him further on my concerns for my cat's wellbeing, so John finally offered to find a new caregiver. I made the ultimate decision to not move my cat to a new caregiver due to 1. how stressful it is for cats to acclimatize to another new environment and 2. the agency's track record doesn't give me any confidence to go through the whole vetting process again on providing a new, actually responsible caregiver. What if they're another Jody? and 3. I will take matters into my own hands and come back early to rescue my cat from negligence. All of my friends / family were also out of town over the holidays, so I couldn't ask them to look after my cat. All I wanted was to make sure my cat was in a safe and stable environment. This was not a "personal choice." In fact, I would be an irresponsible pet parent if I did nothing/ did not fly back early to rescue my cat from a negligent caregiver. End of the day, if Jody was actually a responsible caregiver, there would be no reason for me to return early. Kitty in NY failed to mention below that in the onset, they did not offer any reimbursements. I had to draw the boundary, walk them through the math / rationale before they finally agreed to submit the correct remittance. Reimbursement was certainly not a voluntary option offered by them as they made it seem. There were no detailed background checks done on Jody either, as the agency stated they would on their caregivers. For instance, Jody is currently not a social worker as outlined in the agency's profile of her. She's a full time dog walker. This was a red flag for me in the beginning so I asked John for referrals on Jody. He could only summon one referral, who gave one positive review on Jody. Where are the other proofs / reviews of Jody's "years of excellent service" and "positive client feedback" as the agency claims? If she is so good at her job, what does the agency have to hide? For anyone who engages Kitty in NY in the future, please beware that if you take the gamble and land yourself with someone negligent, I've given you a preview of what will happen and the agency's lack of accountability and transparency. Whoever lands Jody for future dog walking or cat sitting service, you have been warned to stay away. Who knows how she treats your pets behind closed doors.... read more

Left my cat with a boarder through kitty in New York for a month and paid over $1000 for the boarding. I came home to a cat with a broken canine tooth. When I called them the following day when they opened to address it, they completely denied this could've happened on their watch, said it could've happened on our drive home, and refused to use their insurance to help me pay for the $1500 vet bill for the surgery. I carefully reviewed the photos that were sent to me and can see in my poor baby's face that she was swollen around week two, which means she was in pain for two whole weeks and probably had issues with eating as she did not want to eat when I got her home. Please please consider asking a friend to watch your animal and not resorting to these companies that do not care about you or your animal and do not hold themselves to high enough standards when reviewing their own shortcomings. I have waited on posting this review, but was just reminded bc I am bringing my kitty for a dental this week. I still don't know how this happened, whether she was hit or dropped or what happened to her since they refused to take any accountability. My boyfriend and I had Helen cat sit our two-year-old tabby siblings this summer when we went out of town for the weekend. I can't express how crazy we are about our cats -- they are our babies and we could never put a price on their well being, safety, and happiness. In the past we've had family watch them, so we were nervous about having a cat sitter. Thankfully, a friend of mine recommended Helen and boy did we luck out. Helen is incredible. She's very funny, kind, and warm, and knows just the right way to handle every type of cat personality. Our boy is a little piggy and tries to eat his sister's food, our girl hisses at strangers and hides. But she did everything right to make them as comfortable as possible. She sent sweet, detailed emails after her visits along with lots of photos that put us immediately at ease. She took care of feedings, litter, water changing, and cleanup, leaving everything immaculate. We totally trusted her in our apartment and with our kitties. After determining the dates needed and area in NYC, they referred me to a sitter in my area. They provided me with her phone number, email, and a quick link that had reviews of the suggested sitter. I was told to call the sitter and when I felt comfortable, confirm the appointment by emailing them back. The fee for the organization can be paid online through PayPal and the fee for the sitter is left on the counter (either check or cash) in the apartment or house for the sitter to pick up. After paying a hefty fee upfront, I left one of their representatives in charge of two cats for the weekend. Due to the Yelp reviews and the high price I felt confident we would be getting a professional. The person showed up late on Saturday morning, and also very late on Saturday evening compared to the time they told us they would be there. In fact when the time came and went when the person should be there in the evening, the sitter finally texted a photo of our cat even though our doorman had previously confirmed that she had not entered the building yet! To make a long story short this exchange, even though she eventually showed up extremely late, forced me to cut the vacation short as we did not trust this person in the apartment when they were misrepresenting where they were. I would like to explain my experience so everyone can understand what your getting yourself into. At the end of Last month, I contacted this service to take care of my cat at the beginning of next month for a week. I submitted a request online, within two days I had to reconfirm my dates and information, and Jose would contact caregivers near my area to see if anyone is available. Apparently a caregiver named Carolina was available, so Jose gave me her information to contact her. This is when everything starts to go downhill:-/ 1) I called her, and her phone number didn't work. It rang like it would go to voicemail, but then a message at the end said "this number does not take calls at this time". I emailed Jose again telling him what happened. He sent me her email, said to email her, and said he would also contact her as well. 2) I didn't feel comfortable trying to contact someone who's phone didn't work, specially to take care of my pet (red flag) I emailed Jose again saying it seemed counterproductive to continue and if he could maybe find someone else. He said he would and he did within a day or so. 3) The next caregiver was Anna Maria who apparently was out of the country till mid month (about 2.5 weeks away at the time) and that I should only email her until she returns. So I decided to email here and try to get some sort of dialogue going since she isn't in NYC till two more weeks. 4) the correspondence between me and her was sparse. She didn't really respond quickly, nor did I get any information on her more than her name and where she lived. A week passed then I get a phone call from the previous caregiver, Carolina, who was unreachable at the time, and she left a bs voice message saying that she was gonna call me the previous week but she "didn't have anytime". Sketchy to me since I tried calling her 2 weeks ago. I called her back telling her I moved on. 5) so after almost 3 weeks of trying to find someone through this company, the weekend came where Anna Maria was coming back and I emailed for her schedule, so I could play my week ahead. Not really an answer. So far, 3 weeks in, no caregiver, no scheduled time to meet. Then the day came where she was back in NYC and finally she mentioned meeting on Tuesday at 5. I emailed her back saying I could do after 5. No answer. 6) Monday arrives and I get a email from Jose saying that I need to hurry and try to meet these people because there is a high number of people looking for caregivers on my selected dates I'm gone. "Dear McKay, Please try to contact and meet Anna Maria (she came back to NY yesterday). Due to the high number of requests for those dates we ask you to please confirm your reservation as soon as possible. Anna Maria - Thank you for your understanding. Have a good day, Jose" If you don't know what's going on, does this email seem like your checking on things? No it doesn't, it just shows you want me you want me to do the work and you collect the money. Never did Jose ever ask how where things. Did u speak to her, nothing. No concern from him at all besides the end result-payment. I have been emailing, for weeks, if I can't get a answer from your caregiver, what am I suppose to do? Well honestly I had enough, I have spent over 3 weeks trying to find a caregiver through this service and I'm doing all the work trying to line up these people to meet. I just don't understand why I'm paying this service any money if all they do is give me a phone number and email. Then Anna Maria called me seconds afters Jose email trying to set up a time. So all those emails, turned out were pointless. I emailed her telling her I will find someone else I was furious at Joses email, specially since he was pushing me, though the caregivers are flakey. WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT FROM ME, I'm The customer!!!! I might as well put up a Craigslist add myself and interview people. Honestly it would save me time and energy. In the middle man between a business that doesn't know what's going on and it's employees, that have the communication skills of teenagers. I'm suppose to pay the service and pay the employees for....me hunting them Down and playing phone operator. It's honestly way too much work if you work full time. I could understand wives and people who stay at home all day or work From home to spend close to a month trying to find a someone to feed my cat twice a day, and clean it's litter box once while I'm gone. I just don't find this to be a stable or responsible way conduct business. I was patient and I tried, more than I should have, but the way this business is structured and how unreliable their caregivers are, I suggest trying another service (fyi I tried Katy's Kitties, as well, then never called me back) I just can't believe how difficult this was just to find someone to take care of my animal, and have this business make me responsible for conducting their business, then tell I need to hurry. I've tried a couple of different pet sitters (friends, college students, and other businesses listed on Yelp). Kitty in NY was my best experience so far. The booking experience with Jose was very fast and easy via email. I had a short meeting with the suggested caregiver. She was professional and prepared for pretty much anything. Payment was easy, both the agency fee and the boarder fee. While I was away, she sent me occasional pictures and updates, which I greatly appreciated. My cat came home, and while she was happy to see me, she was much calmer this time than any other petsitting/boarding experience. Unfortunately, when you're the proud mama of a spoiled feline furbaby, it can be hard to find someone who does not have any pets who can care for your little angel when you're out of town. Jose was really nice and attentive (responded to e-mails super quickly), and set me up with the PERFECT sitter, who I got to meet beforehand (in her apartment, enabling me to check out the space as well). During my trip, the sitter (Nesha) sent me at least one pic of my furbaby for every day I was out of town (a total of 18 days). Although I was physically distant from my cat and NYC, I felt so comfortable knowing that he was in such good hands. Wow, just WOW. I searched all over NYC to find a place to take our cat for the weekend and no one would. Our kitten is a rescue, and rescued by us. We found her in the alley when she was 3 weeks old, her eyes not entirely open, covered in large flies and fleas. Took her to the ASPCA and decided to take her in. Had to get blood transfusions, treatment for hypothermia and anemia, it was CRAZY. Well a month later, she's too tiny to eat regular cat food yet, and too young for shots. So we couldn't leave her for 2 days with wet food and no one would take her because of no shots. Well Kitty in NY found us a GREAT care giver who was fine with the no shots thing. She was in between cats and was all too happy to take care of our baby. We were hooked up with Jenny who was a saint. We went to her apartment in Harlem and she took us up there. She listened as we gave feeding instructions and talked about how she was so young that she still bites, claws, etc. She was so into making sure she knew every detail to ensure Allie's care was done right. While we were gone she texted us photos of our baby and made arrangements with us to come and get her. She worked with us on what time we showed up and was very accomodating on how/what/where/when. With that short notice, my other option was to pay twice the price for the cats to sit in cages! (Because we have two, we could've gotten the "condo" option....)
