This company has the most incredible staff (specifically, we worked with Andrea and Kaelynn for training and walking) who have allowed our pup to be her very best self. Andrea and Kaelynn show up for us rain or shine with the best attitudes, making it such a joy to see them each session. Our dog adores them and we have seen such growth through the training sessions. As the owner of a 9 YO and 1YO Australian Shepherd, I can most definitely recommend My Dog Hikes. My doxie mix, Winnie, is completely obsessed with My Dog Hikes! Obsessed. She has a tiny hot-dog body, with the heart of a Doberman lol, and I really wanted to write this review to encourage more dog parents out there with smaller dogs to give their pint-sized pups a chance to be the big dog that they THINK they are! :) While the other dogs in Winnie's pack range in size, they are so good to her, and make sure to play with her (gently!); letting her know that it's not the size of the dog on the hike, it's the size of the hike in the dog ha....Initially, I didn't even know if Winnie could participate in the hikes, given her pint-sized physique, but Andrea and Kristian, her pack leaders, make sure that every dog, from gentle giant to low-rider, feels like they are the heart of the pack, and they really let all of the dogs shine. As a testament to how much fun Winnie has on her hikes, she is even ecstatic to go on her hikes when it's RAINING. Like most dogs with short legs, Winnie absolutely LOATHS the rain. HOWEVER, if I say "My Dog Hikes" to her, she throws on her raincoat without ANY puppy dog eyes, and is ready to take on 1,000 raindrops in true lionheart fashion lol. I'm so glad we found My Dog Hikes! We had our dog in Chicago for a year and a half before bringing him to NY. He was used to playing off-leash every day at a dog field or at daycare, so we were looking for similar options here. Moose had a bad experience at a doggy daycare we tried out, and none of the options here are really big enough for large dogs anyway. We found MDH and did a consultation with Andrea. I could tell right away she understands dog behavior and trusted her and her team to take Moose hiking. He has a blast riding the bus and running through the woods with other dogs. He had always been a little skittish with strangers, which I explained to Andrea in our first phone call. She suggested meeting him at home, in surroundings where he felt comfortable and confident. It was an immediate love connection and Andrea quickly became a trusted member of the family. It took just a couple of hikes for my dog to acclimate to the pack. Andrea is a fantastic pack leader that treats every dog with empathy and love. She connects with each dog and understands their unique personalities but also how to integrate them into a happy pack. My dog was beyond excited on the morning of each hiking day and came home happily exhausted after a day of running, playing, and exploring nature. He was confident and joyful. My Mini Australian Shepherd has been hiking/walking/boarding with My Dog Hikes since November 2020. I travel a lot and quite often board her with Andrea or one of the other staff. MDH has become a part of the family! It was my lucky day when I was hiking with my 2 dogs in a local reservation and met Andrea from My Dog Hikes. I was walking behind her and her group of dogs on a trail, and I couldn't help but notice how skillfully she handled them. When I caught up with her, I commented that she reminded me of a female version of the dog whisperer, as I've never seen someone handle a group of dogs so proficiently. As we walked, she gently offered me tips (free of charge!) on off leash management of my enthusiastic hound--I've never even considered taking her off leash. But with Andrea's kind encouragement and her confident manner with the canines, I took my dog off leash and successfully hiked for several miles! It was the best walk we've had! Andrea is awesome; it is obvious that she loves dogs and can handle them expertly, even through encounters with other dog packs or deer sightings. I was also super impressed with all of the locales that she travels to with her doggie clients--as a dog lover myself, I can appreciate those who recognize the importance of exercise and activity to combat boredom.
