I've been going to King's since 1979, when Dennis was on Durant Ave. Always got the best cards. The coolest card shop in the Bay Area!

I started looking for a collection of 1968 Harmony Benifit Concert, handbills and posters. After asking some high end collectors and endless dead ends, one collector told me, you are searching for the rarest of the rare posters. They said they was told to tell me to contact Dennis the owner of DKing galleries,if he couldn't find them, they can't be found, so I messaged Dennis a few times and finally he told me to give him a call that he had something, so when I called he told me he had the ones I was looking for in front of him, later finding out, he had them in a personal stash and had gotthem from friends years ago. Now I did what many people would never do, I wired the money to someone I didn't know or ever met. Four days later I received 2 posters that looked like they had ever seen the light of day, and they were from July 12 1968. Dennis is a cool, laid back guy. He specializes in vintage rock posters but he also has some sports cards and memorabilia. He has a fair amount of 50s and 60s vintage comics as well--nice clean store. read more

I took a long lunch one day and drove with a friend to D King Gallery in Berkeley just to check the place out. Parking was the worst ever and had to park far away and pump the parking meter!!! The Gallery was nice enough and had a lot of neat stuff but the owner was not present and the person working was ignorant about everything. Nothing i wanted was priced and he did not know what to charge. he spent most of the time trying to call his boss on his crappy cel phone that had no reception.( for god's sake dude...get a land line ) I flipped through the comics and nothing was priced there either. Quite disappointing so we left with nothing but wasted time. So last week i tried again to go there but first i called to make sure that things would be different and got the owner on the phone.He informed me that NONE of the comics had prices as he did not feel it was important to do that ahead of time. I guess he does not want our money. i went up to the Escapist comic book shop on claremont and got satisfaction. The guys at the Escapist are pros and have there crap together. Not like the D King Gallery which seems to be clueless on how to run a pseudo comic shop. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! read more

Dennis has the one of the finest selection of vintage ephemera to be found anywhere. As a customer of Dennis King since 1977, I highly respect his expertise on all vintage and rare paper memorabilia. I went to his gallery last week and we had a big laugh about the Eden Hashish Centre posters from Kathmandu, Nepal. The posters were dirt cheap when I bought them from Dennis in the 70s. D King Gallery currently specializes in vintage rock posters, but Dennis also has a vast selection of sports and non-sports cards, and other sports collectibles. Saw a sign on the corner and wandered in because I am a vintage geek at heart. Looked around the store and was very impressed with the range, quality, and uniqueness of the merchandise displayed. The rock posters are all beautiful and prominently displayed, the toys behind the counter were incredible and of a caliber I've rarely seen. I even found an original Star Wars soundtrack vinyl that made me uncharacteristically giddy. I asked for a specific comic series that I was looking for and was directed to it right away. The staff was friendly and conversational and the owner was very professional. I have been to some 'comic' stores where the employees make me feel very uncomfortable because my look doesn't match the stereotypical collector profile. None of that pretentiousness exists here. This is not a thrift store. Do not come here hoping to find a sweet deal on some forgotten treasure. Expect to pay out some bills. It's very easy to go in with one thing in mind and find 3 more things you never knew you wanted. Well done! read more

D King Gallery is a nifty little cross-section of music, pop culture and nerdy coolness. It's mainly a shop for rock posters- which you will see plastered over every inch of the vaulted wall space- but they also have band and graphic tees, vinyl records, new graphic novels, vintage comic books, trading cards, art books, toys figures and models, and random collectible whatnots. D King Galley is basically your cool older brother's room when you were a kid. This shop is a place where you can easily drop some major bills, but there are some deals to be found. I found a vintage Prince LP for only $6- sploosh! Bring your inner child to D King Gallery, and buy that super awesome thing you didn't have the chance (and disposable income) to purchase as a kid! read more

I inherited a rare Grateful Dead poster from my father and took it here to try to sell it. The person who helped me claimed to be the owner and offered less than 20% of what I was offered by a very reputable dealer I had contacted the week before. When I told him I had been offered a lot more, he became very rude and insulting. Needless to say, I sold it elsewhere and wouldn't step foot in this store again. read more

If you are looking for a quality online shopping experience D. King Gallery is not your place. Or a place where you can trust the store owner. I ordered a set of sleeves from Mr. King and returned them in the original box without even taking the sleeves out of the box. I had found a better solution for storing my posters. The sleeves were untouched. It took me 4 phone calls to reach Mr King. I left multiple message and emails. None of them were returned. Finally once I did reach Mr. King, he told me they don't usually take back the sleeves but since they were untouched, he would take them back. BUT he insisted I get insurance on the package. This sounded very odd. Of course I did get insurance and sent the package back. After confirming the package was delivered I again called multiple times. One I got him on the phone, Mr. King said he received the package and that it was damaged. Wait? So you don't call your customers to tell them this? You make them call you to track down the package? He was admit that UPS would handle this as a claim and that they "stop by the store" every day. Well of course, UPS didn't approve the claim because they insisted the package was not packed right. Mr. King packed it! So long story short, an online purchase later has lost me a couple hundred dollars. Thank you Mr. King. D. King Gallery is no where close to having the quality of service you grow to expect from businesses in Berkeley and those deal in great art. Very disappointing experience. This place is awesome. Such a great collection. I found my poster from their online gallery as they have a much wider selection listed there. But going into the store is a good experience as you get an idea of what you may be looking for. Employees were super friendly and remembered my name after coming in on a couple of occasions. I mean, really, there isn't one negative thing about this place. Prices are very fair and selection ranges from pop, rock, hip hop to The Simpsons and Family Guy. I will be back. read more

Unreal selection of posters. If you get a chance to attend an opening or other event, take the opportunity. Dennis is a true expert and always interesting to talk to. I've known him a few years. What's fun about this place is that they keep on top of what's new and cool, despite being known for having a great vintage inventory. Dennis King is a really sleazy operator. He doesn't price anything, just waits until he's got some sucker on the hook and then pulls out a price guide or refers to some other source as if it's canonical law dictating the exorbitant price he must charge. Really, it doesn't matter how little he paid for it or how long it's sat there collecting dust, if he thinks he can soak you for it, he will. read more

I used to really love this place. Probably would've been 5 stars 6 months ago. I bought a few small things, and was planning on dropping a few hundred on a collectable poster or two. But I bought a tee shirt a few months ago and it had a really ugly stain underneath the packaging. I tried to wash it out (my mistake) because I thought it was just dust, but it was still there. Tried to return the shirt for store credit or something but the older man (who I assume was the owner) was honestly a complete jerk about it. Chris, the guy I normally see there, was chill but the owner just freaked out about me washing it and refused to even consider a return. Anyway, I haven't been back since, which says a lot because I used to go in at least once every couple weeks. I probably won't ever go back. The owner lost a life long customer and probably hundreds of dollars in profit over a single $20 tee shirt. Very short sighted honestly. I'd give 1 star, but the fact that it's still a really cool store bumps it up a little even after a really unpleasant experience. If you buy anything don't expect good service from the owner, so just be careful. read more

D. King Gallery is a unique emporium that can be spotted on the drive up to the delightful Telegraph Avenue. Though the merchandise of the store is sometimes obscure and is seemingly ever changing, one thing remains consistant: kick ass posters! Seriously, this guy's got everything from Britney, to some 90's band you've never heard of, to the Rolling Stones. On top of that, he's incredibly helpful and informative. The man siting at the front desk (grey hair with a beard) was a complete jerk, not helpful, and he had no customer service. When I asked a few questions he was very short and rude. I quickly left the store and will never come back. I will not buy from this store and don't recommend anyone else do. The prints are overpriced. art.com is the way to go not this rude guy. read more

I stopped by at the D. King Gallery where has a cool sign of a wavy hair girl. I always wondered what kind of posters I can find in this store as I often walk by and I found out that this is one of the most interesting places in Bay Area because you can find all cool rock posters! Really cool!!! The posters relate to music and some movies! Some are a screen printing and some are limited edition ones. The most interesting posters I found there was rare 60's and 70's Fillmore posters!!! Dennis, the owner, told us about Psychedelic posters and a history of it. The color and design of them are so unique in my eyes and it got me very excited! He showed us selected ones I'm interested in a great condition! Dennis is very friendly and I can tell he really likes about the posters from how he talks with shinny eyes. I finally decided to buy two posters from him because I couldn't decide which one and asked him to ship to my friend in Japan. He told us that he has been shipping his posters all over the world very often for his online order, so there was no problem! His online shopping site has more than 7000 posters which are from an affordable one to some of them are quite rare and an expensive. I imagine that it must be so difficult for me to choose one from so many selections, but I'm confident that he will give me a great advice on this! If you are looking for Cool Rock Posters, check this gallery!! You can not imagine what they have until you come to see. It is very close to Bart station of downtown Berkeley.
