Despite being busy, the waiter quickly accommodated us. He quickly got our order underway and made some good suggestions on the specials. We got 4 different pastas- all of which the plates were cleared by the end of the meal. Great casual food joint.

I came here over Valentines Day weekend and overall my experience was pretty good! We booked a reservation in advance since we were expecting Vday craziness and it's good that we did since the place filled up pretty quickly. We ordered the focaccia bread, carbonara, and short rib ravioli. All of them were really good, but a note on the carbonara is that it is a traditional carbonara so it's not made with cream and the texture of the pasta was firmer and more al dente. Not bad but definitely different so something worth noting if you're used to the more "American" carbonara! The focaccia was the appetizer and that came out pretty quickly but the pasta was taking a bit more time to prepare which I expected since it was so busy. A table who sat down and ordered after us ended up getting their pasta before we did. Our server noticed and was very apologetic and even offered us a free dessert which was really kind of them. We ended up choosing the gelato. I forget the actual name from the menu but it's chocolate and hazelnut gelato with some runny chocolate in the center. It's a cute date night spot with a very romantic atmosphere and good food that you can tell is true to its Italian roots!

Came here on a Tuesday evening for my birthday dinner. I booked through OpenTable around 6 PM, and we ended up running about 10 minutes late because of traffic from the Padres game. Parking down here definitely isn't easy, but we luckily found a spot nearby. The restaurant was surprisingly quiet when we arrived, which I'm sure had a lot to do with the game. We were the only guests at first, but by the time we left there were several other tables dining. From the moment we walked in, the service was absolutely phenomenal. Our server made us feel so welcomed. We ordered: * Focaccia Bread: I personally would have liked it a little crispier, but you could tell it was fresh, and it had really nice flavor. * Burrata & Strawberry Salad: light, refreshing, fresh, and absolutely delicious. I added a little balsamic vinaigrette for extra flavor, but overall it was fantastic. * Amatriciana (with added meatballs$: you can add meatballs for $7, and they also offer add-ons like shrimp or burrata for around $6-$8. The homemade pasta completely stole the show. The noodles were fresh, perfectly cooked, and honestly some of the best pasta I've had in San Diego. The meatballs were huge, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Two was the perfect amount. To top it all off, they surprised me with flan and a dessert wine for my birthday, which was such a thoughtful touch and made the night even more special. Overall, this place absolutely lived up to the hype. The restaurant is cute, clean, and welcoming. The service was outstanding, and the in-house pasta is incredible. Prices are a little on the higher side, but with the location and quality, it's completely worth it. We felt welcomed from the moment we arrived until the moment we left.

This joint is right in my hood, so we happened upon it and had to give it a try. Started out with the burrata peach salad, loved the components though the peppery greens were a bit overpowering if the other flavors. Also had to try the meatballs, perfectly cooked with a tangy sauce and crisp toasts. Finished up with the carbonara, which was a slight disappointment as the pasta was rather tough. The flavors eeee all good, just the texture was an issue. Ambiance is street cafe chic, service was good, and prices were slightly above expectation as the portions were smaller than expected.

we had the truffle oil pasta in the parmesan bowl, carbonara, and the bolognese. the pasta texture was good and that was the only positive thing i could say about the food. the sauces lacked flavor or tasted strange. the crispy parmesan bowl was soggy and really hard to rip off to eat. the focaccia wasn't very good either. also the service was fine nothing good nor bad to say about it. overall, very disappointed.

Place was packed after a Padres game but they were still able to find a spot for us, small place but doesnt feel super crowded when full. Pretty quick to get the meals also! Probably some of the best pasta I've had in southern california. The gorgonzola ravioli was phenominal, the sauce on it was next level delicious. Didnt feel super heavy like some pastas do. The carbonara was maybe in need of a little more sauce but was still very good. Recommend this place for sure.

Super friendly and awesome staff, the host was very accommodating and having us. We didn't even have any reservations. The place was pretty full, but he managed to squeeze us in. It's a nice little quaint, beautiful restaurant in the shopping center and looks like maybe residential living above. The food was pretty authentic and really good. When the San Diego area will definitely be coming here again.

Probably one of the best pasta/Italian spots I've ever been to and an absolute must try if you're in San Diego! The service was fantastic, the ambiance was nice, but the food is really the star of the show here. I highly recommend the pesto pasta and the pistachio cheesecake, absolutely phenomenal flavors! Here is everything we tried: 5/5 - Focaccia Bread: possibly the best focaccia I've ever had at a restaurant, and that's not an exaggeration either. A fantastic starter or side if you like bread like I do, haha. 5/5 - Pistachio Pesto & Gamberi pasta: the pesto flavors of this pasta were so rich and creamy, I savored every single bite and couldn't wait for the next. We also decided to get the shrimp on the side because I generally don't like it, but I ended up trying some and it was the best shrimp I've ever had. 3/5 - Gnocchi Alla Arrabbiata Sauce: this was the one miss of the night, this is supposed to be a spicy flavor forward dish, based on the description. However, we found it to be rather muted in flavors, but the gnocchi pasta itself was so well made! 5/5 - Pistachio Cheesecake: I'm a huge dessert person, and this was so delicious and so amazing, even by my high standards. The texture and the richness was so divine, yet not too heavy, every bite felt amazing. I highly recommend adding a scoop of gelato. 5/5 - Vanilla Gelato: I've never been a huge fan of just getting vanilla gelato, but this was some of the freshest and most delicious gelato I've ever had, I couldn't wait to eat every bite of its creamy goodness. Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Value: 4.5/5 Overall: 4.75/5

Amazing food and service. Great vegetarian options! Went around dinner time on a Saturday and got lucky with being seated right away; however, I'd recommend reservations beforehand.

The husband and I were walking around downtown looking for dinner and everything seemed too packed, too loud, too fratty, for what we were in the mood for and just when we had given up hope, we stumbled onto a quiet street, and saw a cute little restaurant that makes fresh pasta. Fortunately for us, there was plenty of room and no wait. Something told us we were in for a treat. We ordered the wild boar, amatriciana, meatball appetizer and the tiramisu. Everything was spectacular! Definitely coming back when we're in town next!

When we got there we were greeted by the kindest waitress. She found out we were there for my bachelorette dinner and treated us so well. The food was AMAZING and the portions were perfect. The atmosphere was so cozy and warm. I absolutely loved it and will be back

I so wanted to like this place. It was just a miss all around. The foccacia bread with truffle oil added was one of the best dishes. The gnocchi was pretty disappointing. The texture was ok but the sauce was less than great. We paid extra for torched mozzarella and nothing was torched. It was shredded mozzarella that melted from the heat of the pasta. Very disappointing and rather small portion for the price. I don't think it was worth $30. The Tuscan style bascaiola was fairly decent. Had some good flavor to it and the portion of this dish for the price was decent. Their signature dish was pretty good. Very rich and flavorful but I don't think I could eat the whole thing myself as the flavors were really powerful and although good would have been too much to eat the whole thing myself. I think this with the bread was th best part of the meal. The service was really bad. We got the bread and salad as appetizers and we waited almost 90 minutes before the main meal arrived. They walked past us multiple times and didn't check on us. We would have ordered another glass of wine but we were never approached or asked if we needed anything. Kind of a disappointing dinner out. Not so sure if I'd come back.

Our server was great and engaging and I was really happy with my short rib ravioli however the other dishes were nothing extraordinary (gnocchi bolognese and carbonara). While we enjoyed our dinner (and lovely bday tiramisu) what really inspired me to write a review was the state of the bathroom. A restaurant with prices above 30 for most items should have a very nice bathroom. The floor was grimey and there was trash. Sort of took away from my experience. Overall we enjoyed but was a bit upset b

Wilfredo personally prepared and delivered the order, which already says a lot about the level of ownership and pride behind this place. That kind of hands-on leadership shows in the food. We ordered the Birria Pizza and Pepperoni Pizza, and both were phenomenal -- as usual. The crust had that perfect balance: crisp exterior with a chewy center, slight char for flavor, and sturdy enough to hold the generous toppings without collapsing. The Birria pizza is on another level. Tender, flavorful meat layered generously, topped with fresh onions, cilantro, and lime wedges that brighten everything up. Every bite hits savory, tangy, and rich all at once. The Pepperoni pizza? Loaded. Not skimpy slices -- thick, cupped pepperoni with crispy edges and plenty of coverage. Cheese pull was legit, sauce had depth, and the ratio was dialed in. Service quality remains top tier. Professional, welcoming, and consistent. Kudos to Wilfredo for maintaining standards and delivering quality every time. This is how you build loyal customers.

A stacked 3 topping calzone for $14 and 6 wings for $9, come on. You may ask, but did it taste good? For the price, yeah! Would you order again, yes! I would argue that their red sauce is very similar, slightly sweet and delicious. The wings were large and meaty slathered with so much delicious buffalo sauce. They came with a side of ranch which worked for both the wings and the calzone. Next time I'll try out their bbq wings for something a little different. Catalano's really hits the marks with price and quality. Also, they make Mexican style toppings like beans, asada, and chorizo. This is probably the longest overdue review I have ever written, but at this point, not writing it…read morealmost feels selfish because I would very much like to always be able to get a table here. But alas, Carbon Angela's Kitchen deserves every flower, every reservation, every "you have to try this place" text thread, and every bit of love. This place has become one of my absolute favorite hidden gems in San Diego. Easily top five for me, and as someone who dines out a lot for a living, that is not a casual statement. There are places you like, places you recommend, and then there are places that start to feel woven into your actual life. Carbon Angela's Kitchen is that for me. Angela is truly the heart of this place. She has this way of making you feel like you are not just coming in for dinner, but being welcomed into something she deeply cares about. And Emanuele is absolutely part of that magic too. Together, they have built something that feels warm, generous, soulful, and so special. They feel like long-lost friends and family now, and I am honestly just so proud of them and all they are creating. The food is the kind that makes you want to order with the whole table in mind. The griglia mista is hands down one of the best investments you can make if you are dining with a group. It is the meat platter, it is the moment, and it is absolutely worth ordering. Four to five people can split it, especially if you are also doing appetizers, salad, wine, and a few extra things for the table. It is such a perfect nod to what Carbon was before Angela took over, when the space leaned more BBQ, but now it feels beautifully married with Angela's warmth, Italian influence, and the kind of hospitality that makes the whole meal feel like an experience. And please do not sleep on the rest of the menu. The short rib is fire. The arancino trio is always a yes. The eggplant croquette? Obsessed. The crespelle? So good. The Everything Salad is my favorite salad on the menu, and the street corn should never, under any circumstances, be skipped. I said what I said. The wine selection is top tier, the appetizers are memorable, and the whole place has that rare magic of feeling cozy, intentional, and completely unpretentious. You can come for a low-key dinner, a girls' night, a celebration, or one of those "we just need a really good meal and a really good glass of wine" kind of evenings. And the back patio? Perfect for an evening under twinkling lights. It is one of those spaces that just begs for a long table, good conversation, clinking glasses, and the kind of night that accidentally turns into a core memory. They also have catering menus available, which is very important information to keep in your back pocket if you are hosting anything soon. What Angela has built is honestly something to behold. One of the hardest-working restaurateurs doing the dang thing in a city like San Diego, and now opening Bedda across the way too? I am in awe and wonder watching it all unfold. It takes so much courage, grit, taste, excellence, and heart to build what they are building, and you can feel all of it in the room. Carbon Angela's Kitchen is a true labor of love, a hidden gem, and one of those places I will keep cheering for again and again. Go hungry. Order the griglia mista. Get the Everything Salad. Do not skip the street corn. Share Share Share, so you can try a little bit of everything and do a tried and true family style meal, you won't regret it.
