I was surprised when they had me sign something while picking up the cake stating it's only good for a half hour out at room temperature and my transit was to be more than a half hour journey from downtown Vancouver. The coconut was a little on the fruity side, but it grew on me as I made my way through it. The initial bites could have just been a bit odd due to the transition of coming off salted caramel. The sign said "if it's not one of the best coffees you've had them...it's free!" So I said challenge accepted. I had already eaten a brie and marmalade croissant with a London fog, but since it's my last day in Vancouver, I decided well why not. So I ordered a coffee thinking maybe I'll get it for free lol. But heck. This actually is one of the best cups of coffees I've had. It's made to perfection. I even asked for oat milk since I'm an LA girl and we be like that, but it still tasted phenomenal. We could not decide what to get in here. Between the desserts in the display case and the gelatos, it all looked good. After sampling some of the gelato flavors that is what we settled on. Staff was helpful and very nice. You pay first for gelato here, then take your receipt back to the counter. It was pricy, but normal for this area. My favorite is that you could do 3 mini scoops for the same price as a single scoop. I love being able to try more than one flavor but certainly don't want 3 full scoops! It was so tasty.. my daughter said it was the best gelato she'd ever had. It was up there, for sure. Very creamy, flavors were very good (and obvious.. chocolate is chocolate, vanilla is vanilla, etc). They had other offerings like pastries and coffees but we didn't get a chance to try them. This is by far my favourite gelato in the city. I have hit up quite a few spots in Vancouver and none of them are comparable. The only other place I have ever had gelato that is comparable is in Florence. D'oro does a great job of keeping it authentic with a variety of flavours. I would recommend trying out the pistachio flavour and if you're a ferrero rocher fan (who isn't?) to try that out as well. Their fruity sorbettos are refreshing on a hot sunny day. However, regardless of weather I still go to this place when I'm craving a sweet creamy treat. They're open extremely late so your cravings will not go unfulfilled! read more

With way too many cafés and desserts in the lower mainland, I'm naturally spoiled and picky. This place has changed its name a couple of times since what it was before... Mondo gelato? I really loved what it once was and decided to give this one a try. Upon walking in, I was a little surprised at how much the prices have gone up since the old days. However, I'm totally fine if the food/beverage is on par with what's charged. I ordered a cappuccino and a cappuccino cake. The cappuccino was your usual espresso based drink. They used Umbria for their coffee beans. The disappointment was the cappuccino cake. There was NO hint of espresso /cappuccino taste on my tongue. I had an extremely rich cappuccino cake in Italy so I had thought this would probably be similar, considering that it was an Italian coffee shop after all. The cake wasn't moist nor was it yummy. It was just a slice of mediocre tasting cake. I have had better cakes at less than the price they charged ($7?). In hindsight, I probably should have ordered just the gelato as this was what they're known for. The cafe itself is quite nice and there are small flower vases on each table. When I'm walking around post-dinner and I see a gelato place... there's a pretty good chance I'm going to pop inside. ‍ Such was the case when I stumbled across D'oro. My friend and I came in and had hearts for eyes right away! They had a large variety of flavors and they all looked amazing. What I loved was the large selection of sorbetto options - everything from chocolate to peach to lemon and more. Those three were the ones I sampled and ultimately ordered from... the peach is a great summer flavor! They do let you sample flavors so be sure to take advantage of that! You're not able to split scoops (as in no half scoop of chocolate and half scoop of peach), but you can do three mini scoops for the same price as one scoop... and each mini scoop can be a different flavor. If you're only stopping by the one time, that's what I'd recommend doing, unless you find a flavor to obsess over as you sample away. read more

Fun gelato place and Italian cafe. The interior is very pretty with an almost old-fashioned charm, and the staff member who helped me was very friendly and patient. They have some savoury stuff in addition to sweets and coffee but options are a bit limited so it doesn't really stand on its own as a lunch/dinner spot. As a dessert spot on the other hand, there's a huge variety of gelato and sorbetto, cakes, and other baked goods. Everything looked so good, even though I went in for gelato I was almost tempted to try a baked good instead. An interesting thing they also offer is some basic Italian soft drinks. I ended up getting a leek and Parmesan strudel and 2 scoops of gelato, pistachio and tiramisu. The strudel was nice and the cheese gave it a pleasant texture, but it wasn't really heated evenly. Gelato was delicious! I really enjoyed both flavours, they both had a lot of depth and the pistachio in particular stood out as being more authentic in taste than most pistachio ice cream products. Do you like Italian Gelato ? So this is the place where you are looking for. Italian there a lot of good choices of ice cream and it's not expensive. The best thing is, if you are not so fan of ice cream, you have a good options as dessert and iced and hot drinks. I eat a dark chocolate and wild fruits, they were amazing :) I'm not sure about the price, but maybe I paid ~ 8 dollars for dual cup. And Their service is good, they are fast and helpful. During such craving I searched yelp to find a gelato cafe nearby and was excited to find one at a walking distance from my hotel. It also appeared on the top searches on yelp. The staff was super friendly and helped us in selecting the flavors. We firstly sampled 3-5 flavors and then I settle on dolce latte and rum & raisins, while my husband opted for tiramisu and coconut. We also ordered cappuccinos. Dolce latte tasted good at first few bites but then its richness coated my tongue. Rum & raising helped in cutting down that richness. Overall, it was great. Tiramisu and coconut tasted so good. Next time I will try their rose flavor. When I tasted it I found it to be strong but I guess if I combine it with some other lighter flavor, it would taste good. read more

I came across Mondo Gelato when I was looking for dessert places on Yelp. As I was visiting Robson, I decided to check it out as we walked by. There was a good selection of flavors for gelatos and sorbettos. They have also have an assortment of cakes, which looked yummy. I asked to sample pistachio, black sesame, and ferrero rocher. Of the three, I ordered a regular cup (comes with two scoops) of pistachio and black sesame. The pistachio was my favorite as it didn't have an artificial taste. It was super creamy too. I found the ice cream not very flavorful & expensive for the amount you get compared to some other gelaterias in Van

We ordered a 6" gelato cake online. They should have indicated on the website that they required customers to "pay three days in advance" and not just to "order three days in advance." They told us the cake would be ready in three days; but when we went in on the second day the cake was available. The information on the website can be more accurate. In addition, the server should be sure about our order since she had printed our order from the website (the information was on the sheet) - she sounded confused. Regarding the gelato cake, the cake was not exactly 6"; it was just nearly 6". The rum and raisin gelato did not have raisins inside; they should name it rum gelato instead to avoid misleading customers. If they had strawberry inside the cheesecake gelato, then they should name it 'strawberry cheesecake' gelato because what if some people do not like strawberry? On the website, the two main layers of the gelato cake are the same size, but they gave us one layer thicker than the other which we did not know why. The toppings for the side of the cake were not much and overall, the flavours were not strong because they were diluted with milk - the gelato was sweet and milky (e.g. the coffee flavour tasted like Haagen-Dazs and the dark chocolate flavour can be more concentrated). The pistachio cream on top of the cake did not look and taste like pistachio; it was dark green and quite bitter. They either used food colouring or the flavour was something else. They should focus on the quality of the gelato rather than putting the gold flakes on the cake because customers do not need gold flakes, they need the cake to be accurate as ordered with the authentic taste. P.S. They now only had one fridge for gelato (they used to have two or three freezers for gelato) and used the other fridges for pastries and sandwiches. I did not know if that was due to the cold weather, or they needed to have a diversity of product line for more business. read more

after dinner at stephos ...walked around robson for a bit and discovered this gelato place.... ordered a strawberry cheesecake and a chocolate gelato mixed with condensed milk. both these flavours were amazing! the gelato was of outstanding quality. very very creamy and smooth. now, ive had gelato on the streets of italy, particularly in the plaza ....and let me just say...this gelato is already at par with that. they dont have that many flavours compared to other places in yaletown or the drive...but the quality easily stands out. my only concern is that their taste line and ordering line are a complete chaos. there is no proper system or directions in place to let people know where to line up to pay, taste, or claim their orders. on a busy summer day...just imagine the grief this would bring. place is small too and staff not enough. but the gelato is superb! would be back for sure! happy eating!! read more

Boyfriend just came back from Italy and was craving some good gelato so we decided to come here as it had a good rating and within budget at the "$" mark. Sampled the tiramisu, creme brulee, and pistachio before ordering. Tiramisu was delicious (and was the one I went for), creme brulee was meh (had a very commercial vanilla base taste), and pistachio tasted just like creamy pistachio (wasn't for me, but flavour was on point). Boyfriend said it wasn't as good as gelato from Italy but pretty close. One scoop in a waffle cone cost me $5.46 after tax. I wouldn't consider this place in the "$" range but rather a "$$". They have lots of seating inside and two tables outside which we enjoyed. They also sell coffee and other hot drinks. I also tried Ferrero Rocher which is Nutella flavor with bits of chocolate and hazelnut which added a nice texture to the gelato. I don't think I'll ever stop loving Gelarmony's gelato. After grossly disappointed by Mum's (on Davie) and Casa Dolce (by Coal Harbour Quay) with their sorbetto and coloured frozen dessert disguised as gelato, I'm glad that I tried out Mondo Gelato last night during our after-dinner walk to English Bay. I walked pass Mondo many times and have to admit that I was slightly apprehensive thinking that it'd just be another tourist trap. However, after taking the first lick of my nutella and my partner's marzipan, it was no trap. My nutella tasted just like Nutella - rich thick and creamy. It was cheap also. $3.50 for 2 scoops on a waffle cone. There are many flavours to choose from and I can't wait to go back to try some of their other ones. Surprisingly, it does not take credit. Not even debit! I wouldn't mind paying a little more for having the ability to pay by credit or debit. I have to ding it 1 star for cash only.
