We had an active hive in an accessible tree for about three months. It was bigger than a basketball. I had a very unfortunate experience with another company elsewhere,that was supposed to save the Bees, but poisoned them instead. After spending a day on the phone researching, I found out that it is illegal to kill Bees in CA. That does not stop the companies from doing so, as they have ways of getting around the law and doing what is easiest for themselves. Luckily I found DAVE! He understands Bee behavior. I had had back-to-back "bad" experiences with local live bee removal services so I was skeptical when I called D-Tek. (See my postings for Hive Savers and Encinitas Bee Removal. Steer clear of those guys.) Dave was extemely professional and knowledgeable. He responded to my voicemail message within an hour and was out to inspect the hive later the same day, even though he had already done several removals earlier in the day. Dave used technology, his understanding of bee behavior and construction to accurately determine the location of the hive. He scheduled our removal for the next morning. We were his second that day. He showed up on time, brought an assistant and had our hive removed within about 2 hours. The hive was tucked up between the framing joists of our garage ceiling and turned out to be a lot bigger than it initially appeared. About 70 lbs. and Dave estimated 50-60 thousand bees! But there was not one complaint, and no attempt to "upcharge" us for the project being bigger than anticipated. Dave did a wonderful job. He scraped out all the wax and honey, got all but about 100 bees (boy, were they angry for the next several hours!), treated the hive location (to deter a reinfestation) and cleaned up spotlessly. The following morning, for the first time in months I was able to use my deck without being chased by bees! I now have just the normal amount of bees you'd have in any landscaped yard in Encinitas. Dave came out to my house this morning to investigate our bee problem. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. Upon thorough investigation, he identified the bees must have been on a scouting mission and didn't build a hive in our chimney. (Some bees were coming into the house via the chimney so we were alarmed and called D-Tek). Dave and his crew are awesome! My neighbor noticed a swarm of bees on our home a few days ago. I called Dave and he immediately called me back and set up an appointment the next morning to come by and assess the situation. Dave and his team came and removed a hive that made their way into the exterior wall of our house under our small air conditioner. It was interesting to watch from a distance the process it took for them to remove the bee's and take them to a bee farm. Dave came out a few days ago and did everything he promised about removing the bees. I have a three story house with a large hive living in my roof and he vacuumed them out and put the roof tiles etc. back with a two year warranty against leaks and a one year warranty for the bees. Other bids were for using a cherry picker or scaffolding which greatly increased the cost but Dave did it with only two ladders! Once we figured out what the sound was coming from the attic, I called around and did a lot of research about bee removal, bee behavior, types of bees, and more. Although it was important to us to preserve the bees as best as possible, the integrity of our roof after the process was our main priority. So, when I spoke with Dave and learned about his construction experience, insurance coverage and warranty coverage, he was the man for the job. I noticed bees that were congregating at the corner of our house at the second story. Not having had this issue before, I first went to Yelp to try and find a company to take care of the situation. I decided to call D-Tek and immediately spoke to Dave and he said he could come first thing in the morning. He showed up as promised and inspected the area. He told me that it appeared as though the bees were just scouting and hadn't started building a hive yet. So, he said just to keep an eye on them and if they didn't leave within 72 hrs to give him a call as that most likely meant they were starting to build their hive. After a couple of days, they seem to have left. Unfortunately I didn't need Dave's service, but he was good enough to come out and take a look. I appreciate the service and not trying to sell me something that I didn't need or didn't need yet. Not that I hope to have the situation again, but if I do I will definitely call D-Tek. read more
